RESET NEWS ANNOUNCEMENT - Discussion thread

I still don’t get how we were promised magic BPs for our constructs if there was ever a wipe, and now we just get nothing.

So many questions:

1) Will we now finally get static BP alignment, for when we redeploy our constructs? That we still have that annoying raycast deploy is nuts - far worse after a wipe.

2) Why do we need to backup LUA when it’s saved in BPs? (How do you even back up LUA?)

3) If Sanctuary is being reset do we all start back at the Ark? And have to do the new player experience all over again?

1) Unknown

2) Cut & paste into wordpad - Safer than presuming your BP isn't going to bust and not be deployable.  I've already had that happen since 0.23.

3) Presumably yes.

So a player that had been supporting DU since many years gets the same reward as a fresh player that subscribes for a full year before the launch... interesting approach.

One difference:  I'm presuming kickstarter and patron types will get their promised DACs.

Question: Will NQ still honor the rewards from Kickstarter packs (DAC’s, lifetime subscriptions, pets etc)?

I think there would be player riots, and complaints to Kickstarter themselves, if they did not do this.  Perhaps even a lawsuit or two, although I'm sure they have sufficient disclaimers in the actual documents (people can sue for any reason, doesn't mean they will win).

So I'm going with "They are not total idiots, so Yes".  Hope I'm not wrong.

One slightly concerning comment that was made:  “we hope to only have to launch once” …….soooo there might be further wipes and launches?

I'm pro a wipe for a clean launch, but only if it’s confirmed to be persistent after that point.

Why would they say this......... FFS.   He should be fired for saying such a stupid thing.  And the other two should be fired for not questioning what he said before the video was released. And anyone that does not realise how bad of a statement is should not be in a position of policy making.

Seems like anyone who has been with DU a long period (multiple years or pre beta )of time and has contributed is not really being rewarded adequately. The reset was always a given which I accept but I guess ppl will be more wary in future of this type of development approach. If I have misunderstood the benefits to the community and long term contributors perhaps explanation further might clear up the matter on how they are specifically rewarded differently in line with their contributuion.

Again, DACs (which they didn't mention in this announcement, so we have to speculate on) might be considered a large portion of that reward.  But I agree in principle, since I'm been active for 4.5ish year now?  (wow)  Allowing someone to buy their way in and be equivalent in rewards day 1 seems wrong - although a great way to raise cash.

Honestly I like rewards. but I don't need them. The pleasure of playing this game, and the knowledge of the mechanics is enough of a perk for me. I do not feel that I haven't gotten my money's worth already.

Edit: no word about the magic BP's.. feel like i bought in on a lie tbh....

if they hadn't posted two years ago that there would be no more full wipe without Magic BPs, I would never have played the game seriously.
That will definitely be a lesson to me.

will you add some better sorting/grouping in the nanopack inventory to handle that huge amount of core BP's some of us will have after launch?

If they don't add new features for this, you can greatly reduce clutter by searching for a subset, then select them and then right click-> package.

Really helps when, like me, you have 30+ revisions of the same construct.

Long time contributers are rewarded with the kickstarter backer pack they choose. Anyone participating in a kickstarter or even a Beta also knows that they are contributing to the development of the game. Because that is what you agree with when you sign up. The reward is a fully functioning kick ass game, if you're lucky. Because that is what I signed up for. If they need to spend time comming up with some special reward for me I'd rather have them spend that time on improving the game. Besides they do a great job in rewarding people with their community digest program. Plus we get our names in the credits somewhere, not sure about Beta players though.

I have been a proponent of full wipe for release for a long time.  I am not a fan of schematics but I can understand the design choices and gameplay loop involved.

Looks like I came back just in time to figure out the current mechanics and features.  May as well take a few runs through the FTPE to prep for release.

I'm glad there's finally an announcement.  It's definitely not unexpected, Hellen Keller could have seen the full wipe coming based on the information that wasn't put out about it. I appreciate getting some skill points back, as that's the most valuable thing imo.  I certainly won't be playing until after "release", absolutely zero point, so I hope you can release very soon.

Two things, regardless of the content:

- The video explains why you are doing what, it seems more personal. I like it. I would like to see something like this in a live stream, where you can also ask questions. I wish you would have started earlier. If you keep this up for the future (video format, explanation, streams), you're already on the right track.

- I've only just realised that NQ-Nyota has cat ears. From now on I'll call you NQ-Nyata.

About the content:
It was to be expected and you are making the right decision. Now it must not happen that individuals again buy schematics for 1% of the value and are compensated 100 times over. Even if it was only a few, the money still remains in the economy, which a few do not understand.

After the wipe, it must also be ensured that errors are addressed immediately.

Now it will be interesting to see what you will do.

Serious question:  Will the rewards for subscription, etc be transferable in any way?  I have two main characters which I played with extensively over the time.  They're on a single contributor account so one will get a rare and one will get nothing.  I also have 3 alts which were on paid subs for over 12 months, so they would qualify for an exotic pack each.  But I don't want to play on my alts.  Can I swap these over somehow?

So I was not after a wipe but I am glad they have said what is happening now (My desires were based around not having to repeat the previous activates already achieved ). I would have liked some things to be different but I am not going to complain about their choices since the main thing I wanted, the core blueprints, I will get to keep. I have been playing solo, waiting to join a corp at release (Turns out a wise-ish choice given the leavers) and designing a ship especially when you get to a medium size takes ages and I would not have looked forward to redesigning my ships on release even if I improved upon them.

I notice a lot of people complain about content but but that is not a huge issue for MMO's since they do and will continue to constantly add new stuff once released (assuming the game does well enough). I would expect them to hold some things back from the beta too - saving them for release but I guess we will see when that happens.

I would also say that the game premise of content made by players suggests, we can expect us the player base to supply most of the constructs found in the game and as a result a wipe really should attract the correct type of player the game is looking for - people who want to populate the server with their own creations. So hopefully this will work in DU favour.

I do agree with people that said there was not much point in doing a huge amount in game from now on. Since, it does mean anything we do in DU from now on will be based on trying things out before the wipe rather than long term goals in the distant future. But I guess we will see what happens.

Hope everyone continues to have their fun out there :D

NQ thank you for your clear answer on this topic. We have waited for this since the possible wipe could happen.

The reasons are valid!

Since the start of beta we need to say goodbye to our second home, but we will rebuild!

Im eager to see what the future hold

You’ll also keep your Core Blueprints after reset.

When you say 'your' do you mean those core BPs that we are named as Creator in the BP, or all core BPs we have in our Nanopacks or personal constructs, irrespective of who the Creator is?

Also the 'Schematics' for the 5 Dynamic constructs - do you mean BP copies? And what are the BPs for, if we are allowed to keep our previously created BPs?

Schematics for 5 Dynamic CORES; they mean schems to use to build core elements.

As sad as it is, I think the reset is necessary.

However, before you do, in my view, you NEED something that puts the evolution and maturity of the universe in the hands of the players, and combines the activities of the players to achieve it.

All the techs were unlocked and built within weeks of the first release. You put in schematics to slow that down, but it was horribly artificial and just a grind gate.

What we need is some kind of loop within the game that allows the universe to progress.

People Mine -> Make stuff -> Build ships -> do... something wit hthe ships?  -> Tech up - > Better mining and ships > loop repeats

If you don't do something like this then the game will still suffer from the issue it has now which is 'I built some cool ships, made some money and... now what? The ships don't really serve a purpose other than to allow other people to do things a bit quicker until they themselves get bored of doing nothing.

Everyone needs a purpose that feeds in to someone elses purpose! Personally I think some kind of exploration element that yields alien tech that can then be used by researchers to produce better schematics etc could do the job. Would give people a reason to go out and explore (beyond rare ore) and an entire new job/purpose for people in the universe to specialise in, and each feeds another profession in a loop.

If you're looking at core BP's for some old DIA branches, Deckard said something in there about rights adjustments, and something about orgs that don't exist anymore.

But regardless of that, I think he said that all core BP's will come, regardless of original designer. Though I suspect that DRM rules around making new Core BP's will still apply (though hopefully something is done about the old DIA ships, and anyone else who has core BP's where the OG designer is a non-existent org)
