  1. Alright,

To avoid the topic to go any further down the road, it's going to be locked.

@Raptor Jesus: Thank you for having already changed the content on your Organization. The modifications are nearly ok (if you remove the sentence "Every follower is welcome to communion, to eat of the body of The Creator (pizza) and to drink of the blood of The Creator (milk)", that is clearly referring to a christian rite, there won't be any more reason to delete the Organization).

Please send me by private message the new display name you want to have.

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar.

And it was never my intentions to insult a religion or group of people. I did it for satire reasons. Im not a biggot nor against any religions. Just wanted to create a community for fun. And i realize we cant “worship” real people or NQ staff. Thats why i didnt use the term “JC”. I think a lot of  conclusions were drawn without consulting me first but ill  reluctantly comply.

Again, satire is perfectly fine, as long as you don't bring something controversial from real life in it.

The moment you bring something controversial from real life into the game, you can expect problems from the real life pointing their nose sooner or later.

The reasonable approach in this case is "better preventing it than making control damage once it's done, especially if it was expectable".

That's why it's a common rule in MMORPGs to avoid referring thematics like real life politics, real life religions, and everything tied to it.

Some things aren't just forbidden on a whim. It's forbidden for solid reasons, because of issues that may have happened in the past and to prevent to see them reproduced.

While we are aware that satirical content is not necessarily done with the intention to hurt people, on sensible topics, starting to allow some content would generate the question "where to draw the line?" and there is no ideal answer to that.

Using "Jay Cee" instead of "JC" doesn't change anything as it's obvious to whom it was referring.

As long as the intent to refer to something not allowed by the rules is clear, there is no valid excuse to not apply the rule. Changing the orthography won't be a valid excuse.

Now, "Raptor Jesus" is directly linked to a parody of a real life religion (Christianism): http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Raptor_Jesus

So it falls in the "content referring to real life religion" category. As CaptainTwerkMotor suggested, "Raptor Guru" could be fine, but not "Raptor Jesus".

Also, it's true that we didn't allow "Pepe the Frog" avatars. Why we didn't have any concerns originally with it, as soon as it becomes a symbol associated to a political movement (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepe_the_Frog), it fell in the "content referring to real life politics" category.

Our decisions aren't taken on subjective criteria, but on facts.

So don't take it like an unfair punishement aimed at specific members of the community.  It's just how things work.

Every time I look at the forums I lose that little bit of Faith that I have left in this game. I would've pledged willingly months ago but seeing the current state of everything I don't thinks it's worth it anymore. One org was created to bring joy to the boring wait, in good will and to give back to the man who carried his dreams into reality. We wanted nothing but to show our appreciation to our beloved JC, the face of NovaQuark and Dual Universe. To have that little not taken away from us leaves a sour taste in not just my mouth but also the mouths of many others. It is disappointing to see our community go blunt and dull, similar to the infamous "No man's sky". I hate to say it but if we can't have this then why should we still be here?

    @Raptor Jesus

Isn't the situation being a bit over dramatized here?

There is plenty of other ways of showing appreciation to JC, without making a cult (even a funny one) around him.

    Nyzaltar.

  3. @UniversalG:

You are taking the problem by the wrong side:
It's not a matter of "forcing our beliefs and values" on the community.

First, the rules put in place are not necessarily our beliefs and values as people. Don't forget that laws, freedom of speech and culture are something very variable from one country to another. Members of the community should keep that in mind, and not just see the situation only through a personal prism. The rules put in place are here to be compatible with as much countries as possible.

Second, because it's not a matter of forcing anything but a matter of agreement: for access any game or service, you have to follow the rules. If you don't want to follow the rules made for the involved game or service, then you won't access to it anymore. It's the same thing everywhere, it's that simple and nobody force you to do anything that you haven't agreed to do in the first place (using a service/play a game to the condition of following the rules tied to the service or the game).

Third, these are mostly common rules to most MMORPGs:
    - Not talking about (or referring to) real life politics
    - Not talking about (or referring to) real life religons

    @Raptor Jesus:

Regarding the fact that you got the name over the year and no action has been taken, the reason is quite simple:
as we said many times before, we don't want to watch closely every player in the community. We are not big brother. However, when something come to our attention that is against our rules, we have to step in (whether we like it or not).

It's not forbidden for the community members to create a fictive religion in-game, so your creativity freedom remains intact. However, referring to real life things can cause trouble, even a lot of trouble in some countries on legal plan. Among those things, creating a religion around a real life person is a very unhealthy thing that isn't allowed. We don't want to bring any real life problems into the game. Period.

We hope you were still joking with the following sentence :

    Quote

The church is OUR religion something we passionatly believe in and i think we deserve that religious freedom just like anyone else. So people lets not nerf the world.

So far, we took the time to explain why we are doing things, as you are a new member on the forum.

Please do not try to contest the rules (being a backer doesn't give extra rights on this aspect), as this will never end well.

Honestly, we don't like to play the police, be it on the Community Portal or on the Forum, so the least we have to that, the better it will be.

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar.

  4. Hi Raptor Jesus and welcome to the forum.

While we can understand this organization has been created with fun in mind, this organization is not legit for several reasons:
    - Creating an organization referring to people existing in real life (even in a funny way) is not allowed ("Jay Cee").
    - Creating an organization referring to religion existing in real life (even in a funny way) is not allowed (Name "Jesus" with a clear christian connotation behind).
    - Moreover, making an organization to vow a cult to a living person (even in a funny way) is not allowed ("Church of Jay Cee").

We can totally understand that these rules may appear pretty harsh, too serious, but these are the rules to avoid any unecessary conflicts or controversies and they should be respected.

Therefore, this organization will be deleted soon and we ask you to change your display name.

To make this perfectly clear, we will update both forum rules and community portal rules soon.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

  5. Hi everyone,

Here is the official stance of Novaquark regarding the wiki made on Gamepedia. We launched the wiki on this platform with the goal in mind to let the Community fill/improve/complete it. we really thank  all those who have already participated in it. However, the wiki was never meant to reference player-created content (hence organization descriptions). It's made to describe official content, game mechanics and possible emergent gameplay.

Here are the reasons for our stance:

    1) To keep some meaning for each website.
    - The wiki is there for the gameplay and the game mechanics and the official content.
    - The community portal is the place for all the community-created content (as it will evolve a lot with the arrival of a dedicated web developer joining the team soon).

    2) If we start to include Organizations description, we will have to do it for every organization or none of them.

Referencing a few organizations will raise a ton of issues while referencing will gave the wiki contributors an unreasonable amount of work.

    3) To keep a certain neutrality and peace on the wiki.
We aren't blind or naive. The moment some player-created content (especially organizations description or history) is included on the wiki, it will become a battlefield and we don't want that. The wiki is not made nor designed for that. Remember what happened recently on the Community Portal with a system not (yet) fully implemented to take into account attempts of sabotage.

So for all these reasons, we don't want to see Organization pages appearing on the Gamepedia wiki.

Other wiki mentioned in this topic are, in our opinion, not relevant examples:
    - World of Warcraft is a theme park MMORPG where Guilds are not in direct competition (sure, there are Battlegrounds and Arenas for PVP, but there is no reason to reduce the visibility of any guild, while there can be in sandbox MMORPGs like EVE Online or Dual Universe).
    - No Man’s Sky is not a MMORPG. Not even Multiplayer, so there are even less reasons for this case to go wrong.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

  6. Hi ZipSnipe and Kirtis,
welcome on the official Dual Universe forum!

    - It's true the introduction post was a bit brutal. It's understandable as many developers released games promised a lot and didn't met the expectations of the players, and now every game projects having any significant ambition is welcome with caution, suspicion and/or disbelief. And that's okay. We don't ask to be believed just with words. We force no one to support us before having seen the game. We understand your decision. We have no problem with that.

    - It's also true vylqun's answer was a bit brutal as well. It's understandable as we had many aggressive introduction in the past from people who think to know what Dual Universe is about and bash it, before even inform themselves on the game. So those who took the time to inform themselves have sometimes to a hard time to answer kindly to this kind of introduction post.

    - Regarding the role of the veteran community members (and especially the members of the ATV group):
True, we are happy to get feedback from the active members, but we are also happy if they welcome the new members and help them to integrate the community: "welcoming new comers and reply to their questions, even obvious ones without being rude" is one of the factor on which the ATV members can be selected as mentioned there

Now to answer the main question of the topic:

Games like Space Engineers or Empyrion were originally designed to be multiplayer for small groups of players, hosted on private/personal servers. Going this way has its pros and cons. Among the pros, there are some that made the popularity of these games like the physics applied to voxels where you can ram into a spaceship with another spaceship and breaking it in two parts moving independently. It's this kind of "waow" effect who made Space Engineers well known for example. The problem here is this kind of things is hardly compatible with massively multiplayer technology (if you want to avoid big lag problems), at least with the current level of technology across the world and the average internet bandwith of a player.

In Dual Universe, this is the kind of topic that we decided to "sacrifice": where Space Engineers put physics applied on voxels at the top priority (and it makes sense if you aim for a multiplayer game with a few friends), we put the priority on the massively multiplayer environment, while physics come second. This is essential for a single-shard universe (where the whole community is gathered on one server cluster). If we can implement physics in some aspects without stressing too much the server where we are in a situation with hundreds or event thousands of players gathering at the same place, then we will probably implement it. However, physics applied to voxels, water physics and other type of realistic features that are "unfriendly" with massively multiplayer environment will most probably never implemented unless there is a technology breakthrough to handle that properly in a MMORPG.

Large scale battles of Planetside 2 are also a great achievement, but they can't push much further as FPS real time mechanics can become a factor that limits the massively multiplayer environment. That's why we opted for a "lock and fire" mechanics in PvP combat similar to EvE Online, instead of FPS Mechanics a la Planetside 2. "lock and fire" mechanics enable us to refresh the position of players very far away less frequently without making it a gameplay issue = less data to transmit to all clients = more massively multiplayer friendly.

    In the nutshell:
    - We are favoring massively multiplayer environment (trying to avoid as much lag as possible) over physics.
    - We are favoring massively mutliplayer environment by chosing massively multiplayer PvP mechanics optimized for it ("Lock & Fire").

So we are not trying to make a perfect game impossible to make.
We had to take tough design decisions to make the best game possible while keeping in mind the constraints to make it doable.

That doesn't mean either we promise there will never be any lag: so many factors come into play that there might be situations where you will have lag, depending on your computer configuration, your internet bandwith, the ping you have, etc... But we will do our best to minimize the lag whenever it's possible. That's one of our priorities.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

  7. Hi there,

    It's true that:

    - Massive Constructs "battlestar cruiser" size or "death star" will require incredible amount of resources and may not (or hardly) be possible to build alone.

    - We don't plan to let players import design from 3D tools like 3DS Max, Blender or Zbrush.

    However:

    - It's also true that trial & errors will have a massive cost in resources if designing/prototyping a very large of spaceship must be done in the "real" in-game universe.

    - It's also true that it would force all large ship designers to get huge amount of resources just for designing, not even for building. The ideal situation would be that the designer role shouldn't be tied to gather huge amounts of resources (this should be left to the production role).

    In conclusion:

Yes, having a creative mode inside the game, just for designing purpose (without giving any free resources in the "real" in-game universe) is something we are considering.

However, this is a huge feature to develop, and while we would like to add it to the game, there is a high chance it won't be implemented before the official game release. If it's implemented at some point, it will be probably after, in an expansion.

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar.

  9. Hi everyone,

As some participants are quite new on the forum, I'm going to make a reminder (I didn't have enough time yesterday and I apologize for that).

The forum shouldn't be used for public accusations (even if they are true). It's clearly stated in the forum rules here (III-e).

If you have a problem with some other community members, you can:

    • Contact the Novaquark team (contact either the CMs by private message or the Customer Support team by mail at support@novaquark.com) if you think someone has broken some rules on the forum or the Community Poral (Community Portal rules can be found here).

    • If some rules have been broken on another platform, please discuss with the Admin/moderators of this platform, instead of using the official forum.

    • Starting throwing insults at each other is not ok. Some posts have been archived yesterday without giving any warning points but if this escalates, we will start to give some. Again the forum rules ask you to remain polite (even toward people you don't like) if you want to use the official forum.

As this thread contains nothing constructive, it's going to be locked.
    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar.

  10. Hi Elildar,

The Idea box and the in-game bug report feature are two completely different features:

    - It has never been planned to manage all the bug reports through the forum. There will be an in-game bug report feature and this will enable players to send their report directly to the customer support / QA team. We should also have a list of thematics among which the bug reporter will have to choose one before sending the report. However, during the Alpha we will try to keep updated a list of the bugs already known, in order to save players time if a bug has already been reported a hundred times.

    - The idea box sub-section hasn't evolved since the forum opening 2 years and 4 months ago. It's probably about time to develop it further, like becoming a full forum section with sub-sections per thematic.

    - For the most advanced things you suggest, no, it's not just "some database and webpage modifications" and it's not just 1-2 days for an IT developer either.

The forum is based on the IPBoard engine developed by a full web developer team, and meddling with the core code (when the developer is external to the IPBoard team) might be a bit tricky to have a global vision of the code and make changes without breaking anything. Also, we try to limit the amount of customizations we add to the forum engine as it could also break the forum when we try to update with official IPBoard updates. We don't say it's impossible, it's just that it's far more time consuming than it may seems at first glance. We don't say we won't do it at some point, but we currently don't have the time to focus on that, especially as we don't have a full-time dedicated web developer at the moment (but we will have one very soon. However, his priorities will be the official web site, the community portal and the crowdfunding portal before thinking to add any feature on the forum).

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

  11. Hi ZipSnipe and welcome on the official Dual Universe forum! :)

You haven't anything to pay for that.
It's just that you can't reply to any topic until your account has been validated (it has just been done, so you should be able to reply to any topic now).

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar.

  12. Hi everyone,

Just a short message here to emphasis/remind the fact that using fake accounts on a big scale to inflate artificially the size (hence the visibility) of an Organization, especially when the Organization founder(s) is/are aware of this and let it go (or is a part of the problem), this can lead to the Organization deletion. This won't prevent the involved people to recreate their organization, but if this abuse (use of fake accounts) is done by the same person(s) again, the sanction will escalate.

    Best Regards
    Nyzaltar.

  13. Hi everyone,

A reminder seems needed on this topic:

    - An account is strictly personal.
    - You can only use the accounts for which you are the rightful owner.
    - You can't lend or share your account(s) with anyone else (even a friend or a member of your family). No exception will be taken into account.
    - Accessing to an account that isn't rightfully yours is strictly prohibited.
    - If someone asks or harasses you to give your authentication information to him/her, do not comply to his/her request.
    - If someone harass you for such a thing, please inform the CMs by private message and/or contact the support team at support@novaquark.com.

The consequences of sharing an account:

    - The security of your account is breached and if something wrong happens on your account, you lose the right to ask the help of the support team.

    - If the person with which you have shared your account has committed infractions, the sanctions can be applied to your account as well, even if you didn't commited the infraction yourself but your account has helped in anyway to commit the infraction.

Please keep in mind these very important points.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best Regards,
    The Novaquark Team.

  14. Hi huschhusch and welcome on the Dual Universe Official Forum! :)

To answer your question, any possible feature is frozne at the moment for the Community Portal (beside fixing existing bugs, of course).

The main reason is the Dev Team is focusing on the Alpha. However, there is a good news: a web developer should join our team soon, and one of his missions will be the development of the Community Portal. I can't promise your suggestion will be on top of the list, but there's a chance that you'll see it appear at some point ;)

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar.

  15. Hi everyone,

Please remain polite on the forum toward everyone, even if you are in conflict with some participant(s) in this thread.
As this topic starts to be recurrent, it seems there is a need to clarify publicly our stance regarding subReddit channels.

    1) Please do not bash Reddit and Subreddit communities.

Yes, there are drama, conflicts, rants and many other negative things that can be found on some subreddit channels, like on any platform. It’s the Internet. However there are also a lot of positive discussions and nice people on many channels. So please refrain to condemn redditors as the whole, without exception. Also, as mentioned before, Reddit is an efficient way of giving more visibility to Dual Universe. Not all Reddit readers are bad people (far from it) and it would be nice if we can show them that Dual Universe exists and might be a game they were waiting for.

    2) Reddit insists to avoid having company staff in charge of the subreddit(s) talking about game(s) of the said company and we understand that.

While it might seem as a poor excuse to get a non-qualified person in charge, but it's not: even if it's not the case of the majority, there are some companies that don't behave professionally when it comes to communication by silencing dissenting without exception. That’s sad to say but even it’s a minority of devs, some don’t act ethically when they get moderation rights. We are a few at Novaquark to have already witnessed that. Is the current subreddit management mode perfect? Probably not, as other abuses can be made, but we have to deal with it. For the same reason, we also understand that Novaquark has no right to put in charge any community member on a specific subreddit. The request must come from the community member alone.

    3) In case of subreddit Moderator abuses.

The Reddit policy invites anyone targeted by an abusive moderation on a subreddit channel to contact directly the official Reddit staff (contact@reddit.com). You can tell us for informative purpose if you have been the target of an abusive ban by a subreddit moderator, but we won’t be able to help on that matter. To be more precise, here is an official (and understandable) stance of Reddit Staff:

    Quote

“Account bans from subreddits are something we would generally only discuss with those directly involved for privacy reasons. If users feel that they are being unfairly targeted or harassed, they should contact us.”

    4) The current situation between both subreddits talking about Dual Universe.

    - On one side we have the oldest subreddit and the biggest number of followers, but with an erratic activity (nearly no activity during one year after its creation, then highly variable activity afterward) and not tightly connected to the existing Dual Universe Community.

    - On the other side, we have a younger subreddit, created due to the inactivity of the first one, with less followers, but with a stronger activity and well connected with Dual Universe Community as it is managed by active members of the existing Dual Universe Community.

Both parties have reasons to claim their legitimacy.

    5) Which factor(s) we value as the most important to work with a subreddit channel.

Reddit seems to give more importance/legitimacy to the following factors:
    - The seniority of a subreddit channel
    - The number of people who follow

While we respect their choice, we have however a different approach regarding the factors we value the most for a possible partnership, especially:
    - The most regular / highest activity of a subreddit channel
    - Regular members of the subreddit are already informed on all basic questions, being able to answer to newcomer questions without difficulties.

Why we chose these factors over those chosen by Reddit:
    - We favor organic growth: in our opinion, a young but active subreddit is going to attract more naturally and efficiently new followers than an old but less active subreddit.
    - Interesting discussions/debates can emerge on Reddit only if a large part of the readers are already well informed about the basic knowledge on the game.

In the case where the two subreddit channels talking about Dual Universe don’t merge peacefully, we see two scenarios:

a ) No subreddit merge but at least a gesture of goodwill from both sides to gather the whole group of Dual Universe fans on Reddit.
Considering the other subreddit channel as a “subreddit” sibling and inserting a link pointing towards it (which would mean that there is a link on /r/dualuniverse pointing to /r/dualthegame and another link on /r/dualthegame to /r/dualuniverse. Maybe even share the activities between both subreddits (like all basic questions would be posted on /r/dualuniverse and all the more complex discussions on /r/dualthegame. That’s just a suggestion based on how both subreddits have evolved until now and absolutely not an order). If such agreement is reached, there will be no problem to partner with both subreddits. However, it will be up to subreddit moderators to submit to Novaquark possible events they would like to do on their subreddit (not the other way around). Then we will discuss how much time we can allocate to such events.

b ) No subreddit merge and no agreement reached.
In that case, we will partner only with the subreddit that has the highest activity and connectivity with the community, for the reasons stated above.

As the moderator of /r/dualuniverse seems to be someone else than AidenAiden now, the new moderator will be contacted to inform him about our stance toward subreddit channels and we'll see what comes from the discussion.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

  16. While there isn't currently a tool to measure angles in-game, you have however some visual feedback to measure the distance in straight line when you are in Building Mode, as shown in this DevDiary video (at 3:27):

    - a square defined with faint lines indicates a side length of 25cm (the size of a voxel on a Construct).

    - a square defined with moderate lines indicates a side length of 50 cm.

    - a square defined with strong lines indicates a side length of 1m.

  17. Hi everyone.

Until now, we couldn’t manually manage (remove/promote) Legates in an organization easily on the administration side.

Since Yesterday, we are able to use a feature simplifying considerably the process.

As we already mentioned many times in the past, we (Novaquark) don’t want to involve ourselves in the management of organizations created by players. However, we are also aware that the current (and temporary) state of the management system contains obvious flaws. You know it. We know it. As this is still “work in progress”, we hoped that organizations creators will be reasonable enough to avoid abusing the well-known flaws of the system and would wait that all the rules are implemented before trying to sabotage other organizations.

So we are going to state the obvious here:
It’s ok to “play a bad guy” and use dirty tricks once all the rules are implemented. However, it’s absolutely not ok to start exploiting the flaws of a work in progress system: this is not “playing a bad guy”, this is just toxic behavior and trying to gain an advantage while not playing by the rules.

That’s why - despite our will of non-involvement - we will make exceptions until the full implementation of the RDMS (Rights & Duties Management System) for the Organizations.

Why did we decide to intervene?

    Two reasons:

    1) In the current state, a Legate has much more power than in the final system, due to the minimalistic mechanisms temporarily in place. If in the current system, any Legate has the right to promote a member to Legate status by himself alone, in the final system the default rights will be completely different: promoting a legate will be done only with a vote by majority rule, or the right to promote someone will be given to specific persons and not every Legate.

    2) In the current state, a Legate cannot be demoted by any mean (even by the creator of an organization). In the final system, default configurations will allow to demote a Legate with a vote by majority rule. A Legate could also be demoted by specific persons who have been given the right (most probably by the Organization founder) to do so.

How is this going to work?

Each organization is going to have one "wild card": if there is a problem with the Legates in an Organization, you can contact the support team at support@novaquark. However, keep in mind we (Novaquark) reserve the right to intervene (or not) on a case by case basis.

Example of a case where we will intervene:
Some Legate using the flaw of the current temporary system to vandalize (or generate troubles in) an organization.

Example of a case where we won’t intervene:
Two organizations have merged in one, and now both creators of previous organizations want to mutually exclude each other from the organization. In this kind of case, we won’t remove anyone. We won’t favorize one creator above another. However, we will do our best to help finding a satisfying solution for both parties.

    As a global reminder:
If someone finds a loophole in the rules in place (that may happen), and this loophole is used to generate trouble and spread a toxic behavior, we won’t stay idle watching the situation deteriorating.

  18. Hi Elildar,

Sorting the ideas posted in this section is part of our to-do list.

We also want to make a table on which we would answer if the idea is:

    - accepted and included in the roadmap before the official launch

    - accepted and included in the roadmap after the official launch

    - accepted and might be included but much later.

    - rejected temporarily (because of some reasons, but that reasons may disappear at some point)

    - rejected definitely (because of reasons that have no chance to disappear or because it's just not compatible with our game vision).

However, as we have a lot of priority tasks at the moment, this hasn't been done yet.

If someone was willing to make at least a kind of summary of the ideas already posted (with links toward the involved topics) right now, this would help both the Community and the Community Team.

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar.

  19. Hi Malice and welcome to the official Dual Universe forum! :)

The answer to your question is: yes, totally! You will be able to build a ship with the shape you want!

Making the game in voxels was specifically meant to let player creativity go free when making a ship.
However, choosing an exotic shape might not make it easy to have an optimal efficiency.

It will be up to the builders to make the balance between design and efficiency ;)

    Best Regards,

    Nyzaltar.
