They will learn more from that than any hand picked forum

Just forget about ATV. Their influence was clearly bad on this game.
Learn about the history of MMOs to avoid repeating the same mistakes other already made in past.
And play your own game (without the cheat codes).

Unfortunately...after so many years and so much effort, I tend to agree.

I don't believe they will ever be able to deliver on the concepts pitched in their trailers.

I do not believe NQ is going to grow (or even own up to its mistakes) so long as it maintains its current leadership.

I know some people think that there's huge potential in DU and that things will be great once NQ fixes everything...but you have to look at the last six years of development and ask yourself when this magical future will arrive.

Look at the last few months of dev since they launched the paid game...you really think given another couple years they'll have everything fixed up...?

The sad thing is that people are really passionate about this game even with all its failures. The player base is loyal to a fault, and NQ has ignored their own customers to follow JC's ready player one fantasies.

They see criticism and imagine a bunch of haters, but people are taking the time to explain what's wrong and NQ is just rolling their eyes and doing whatever their leadership wants...the only point of beta to them was to collect money, because they sure don't care about collecting feedback.

Empyrion, 7D2D were my goto game for when I got bored of something else.  We would wait for a big patch on one of those two games and play again for a month or two.

**Fixing the "Roll of death" aka "Stuck Adjustor" bug in DU**
Since almost forever there is a bug in the default autoconfigure scripts that causes adjustors to behave like they are "stuck". This leads to a lot of crashes. So here is the fix.
Open the LUA Editor of your control unit (hoverseat, commandchair, remote control, whatever)
    click on "system"
In here we have to change 6 different "actions" for the 3 axis. they are the "ActionStop" actions for the following keys:
    -left
    -right
    -forward
    -backward
    -yawleft
    -yawright
Each of these actions is trying to change one specific variable by in/decreasing it.
you have to basically overwrite the single line and assign the value 0 to that variable
Here is the example for ActioStop(Forward):
    Original Line: pitchInput = pitchInput + 1
    change tis line to: pitchInput=0
now do that kind of change for all the above mentioned actions (each axis will have a different variable name)
then hit "apply" and enjoy the fixed bug, where your adjusters will not get stuck again.
If you want, you can create your own autoconfigure script with these changes (copy the default\**config file to the custom\ directory and do the changes in there

If only there was some way for a developer to know what it feels like to play the game.

You know how players know the game because they play it? Something like that, but for developers. They would need some kind of PC, like a player, and have the game, similar to their players and then, I don’t know. Somehow simulate what it would be like for a player that plays the game, but the devs gets the experience from doing so.

Anyway, Biblitz I totally feel your pain. I loved "telling" my assembler what to do, depending on what order I was given by a customer, and the next day I have 10 containers full of exactly the right stuff and the customer is happy to have everything in his ship after a single visit.

Deintus reacted to Biblitz in Opinion: Schematics & Costs Make No Sense
Without turning this into a rant, I'd like to justify my position that Schematics make no sense whatsoever (after taking some time to think about the patch). I feel many people may be bothered by this patch and can't quite put a finger on exactly what is the root of all the angst. I'm going to make an attempt boil things down to the broad statement that:

"Users are bothered by crafting Schematics in the latest patch because everyone knows it's an unrealistic, game developer only artificial mechanism to slow user progression in the game."

    Consider the following:
In just the last  ~50 years, the internet and digital technology has revolutionized how information has been disseminated to the masses. Look at Mp3's & Napster 20 years ago. Now basically any Movies and TV shows can be available on-demand anywhere. 3D Printing is in its infancy and already millions of modeling files can be found to print many useful and useless things for free or near free. One can now google almost any topic and go down a rabbit hole if they so choose to learn many things only taught by institutions and experts.  The trend is clearly towards more information to more people faster and with less barriers, including money.
Now fast forward 500+ years into the future... the cost of schematics make absolutely no sense whatsoever. I'm not saying a game needs to be perfectly realistic, but this is so far removed from anything plausible that any regular user using this mechanic knows it's a completely artificial developer solution to an in game market balancing problem.  This is not just "users not liking a big change" situation.

I know the game is in flux but I'd like to state that I believe NQ had things closer to "right" without schematics for industry.
The intellectual property cost of things in game should be at or next to nothing and user/market driven If industry schematics were to be implemented, they should be for improvements upon existing items or creations which can be easily replicated, user priced and sold on free markets. It's just more fun to have a goal that is attainable solo within a few weeks of work instead of artificially restricting players to socialize, coordinate and grind forever in order to build a single advanced schematic.  It "feels" wrong to gamers because they know it's a restriction limiting their freedom to play the game they way they want to. Even if it has it's intended effect on markets and industry production, the game is worse off than it is now from a "fun" perspective.  Players are smart, and they instinctively know when they are being bent towards a certain vision vs given a change for the better. This is introducing a massive grind/time sink onto something that already took weeks to work towards.
I don't have all the solutions to the challenges NQ faces with markets & user progression but I believe this patch is not the right solution, this sucks the fun out of the game and is going to continue to do so in the future. Unfortunately, because NQ is running on a Subscription model during BETA to keep things afloat fiscally, maintaining their user base is critical to the survivability of the company moving forward and an unhappy userbase (right or wrong) can spell the end of the game .

FWIW my major was in Technology and have 20+ years industry experience. Hoping NQ has some tricks up their sleeve and can prove me wrong!

Deintus reacted to Xennial in Refining makes ore worthless ??
This all goes back to the fundamentally flawed idea of having bots in the market at all. If ore prices were allowed to nose dive, producers would find more value in producing etc etc etc. They insist bots are needed when all their presence does is cripple the ability for an actual market to develop. Their constant tampering with bots in the market is what has lead to the 'problems' they are trying to correct while still insisting on keeping the problem alive on their end.

Since the current methods are limited for the site, The first would be a complete disclosure and update on the main site https://www.dualuniverse.game/

On game startup. Have an up to the minute (as possible, with current people who handle the news/discord already) list of gaming information on the game launcher itself. Many games do this so that if you play the game, you see the change.

Having an email subscription option would be nice, essentially a bi-weekly or monthly letter emailed to subscribers with latest and newest information. Ingame org drama could be a filler if no news is forthcoming.

Of course the update on the forums.

And a discord announcement wouldn't hurt just before major drops. Most likely I am missing everything released on the game, as demonstrated elsewhere, somethings like patch notes do not get seen by me when they are seemingly buried. So everyone here may already know how to get discord announcements.

*EDIT - I personally think that Elite Dangerous Launcher is a great example with what I am thinking.

I agree with your sentiment towards the design of ships, I'm a designer myself and always like to have functionality in companion with great looks. I know that there are a lot of ships out there which only purpose is to get the job done and lack aesthetics. We have to keep in mind though that not all players are designers, and that's ok. This actually makes a great opportunity for designers cause we would have a greater audience to sell nice looking ships to. There is also another factor which contributes to having less design oriented ships, which is that the game being heavily invested into grinding, pushes you towards just making the cut in order to be able to make your virtual company grow economic wise and not lag behind.

And in relation to the sport activities it would be great if we could do something like that within the game. I'd love to wing suit myself from the top of 1km building

My vision is to make sporting events and activities and large scale locations for said ventures within the DU arena that take advantage of the enjoyable physics model that underlies hover and flying vessels. Even skydiving as a sport (my real life job) is something I can see possible in the future.

I also am a ship designer, however at present ship design seems to be more focused on how to haul the most ore. It is a shame that creative and artistic assets are less desired than ugly giant bricks that can carry a third world country's GDP in one flight. But this is not the fault of NQ, it is a facet of unimaginative and capitalist driven human players.

That is the only problem with the game right now, in my way of looking at it at least. The pure capitalists. Those who want more money and resources every day but have absolutely no intention of using those riches to make a beautiful environment for anyone else. The new patch has slowed me down briefly in my goals, but I accept that because it has also pushed a little way towards halting the pure and ugly capitalism that apparently humanity is unable to avoid falling into.

When I first heard about DU and saw some advertisement videos, first I was very hyped about the idea that finally there was a possibility for someone to create his/hers virtual scifi enterprise and build it up to a big org. The second thing that fueled my desire to participate in this single shard game, was that I could explore, combat, build, trade, discover, etc.
This premise was perfect for my virtual scifi enterprise "Space Mining Universal", as the names describes, that would be a mining company hauling and trading valuable ores and materials through out different solar systems. Probably the aspects of the game that drew me in the most were building/crafting and exploring these worlds.

I joined the community back in 2017 and purchased the Gold membership, I did however not play the game until 3 months ago. My first impressions were really good and I really was enjoying the game, up until you fast forward to the date of this post. During the 3 months I've been playing it, quite a few thing have been changing in the game and most of the things I was hyped about are slowly disappearing from it. I understand that this is in Beta stage, though it seems more like an Alpha stage to be honest. Nevertheless what really worries me is that the promised aspects of the game now are being displaced to fit a totally different route that wasn't intended back in the Kickstarter campaign as well as in the first year of development.

Seeing the login start up screen with check boxes for the game elements to come being ticked off in such a hurried manner, without the features even being fully implemented or developed is damn concerning. Also the replies NQ has given its audience for legitimate questions, where there always seems to be a matter of not enough time or resources, only shows that as always promises given were bigger than what could be accomplished.

I really had high hopes for this game to flourish and the possibility for my dream come true in it, now it seems it's not gonna happen.
It's pretty obvious the reasons behind the game starting to fail are poor decisions from behalf of the NQ team and not listening to their audience. My take on it is I think they slowly ran out of budget and the server infrastructure they have in hand is not capable of sustaining their promises, and now are trying to implement whatever they can even if its not fully implemented. I could keep on giving reasons and talking points but this thread wasn't supposed to be about the company's failure to keep on track with their promises, but really more about telling others the vision and ideas one had getting into the game.

PS: whatever happened to the "pets" we would get at some point for certain account types? NQ probably would answer, that's not a priority, it takes time, we need to invest the "budget" in other areas.
    Just broken promises and lies.

Anyway guys sorry for the rant, so as @Deintus posted, I also would love to hear your ideas and visions you would bring into the playing field. Cheers!

Deintus reacted to Rimezx in Please tell me this is not a series of bot placing?
It has been like this from the start. That is how they injected quantas into the economy in the first days of the beta. With their new schematics prices this is required if enough money is to somehow get generated in order to buy expensive schematics (which are sold by bots meaning the quantas disappear from the economy). It could work without bot orders if they only relied on the daily 100/150k from the start and let the players trade with those. Market prices would be according to that, money would have different value and problem solved. But now that people already posses large capitals there is nothing to be done.

The problem with this approach is that mining (world resources) vanish from the universe and they do not respawn. At start they had bots buying all elements which is like a country printing money out of thin air and paying everyone. If they add those again money value slowly changes and money becomes worthless. That is why everyone was keeping ore instead of money.

What can be done is to remove those orders from the player market and add them to a separate npc market. Doesn't really make any difference. These are equivalent to vendors in other games. They just dictate the value of the currency. Although changing their price immediately alters the value of held capitals from all players, that is why they need to be careful.

As i said in another post they need to hire a real economist. Seriously. This game's economy is obviously too complex for the devs to handle correctly. The economy is totally unstable. Worst kind of conditions for someone to make an investment.

Deintus reacted to CptLoRes in If we balance let's balance
The problem as I see it is that NQ isn't balancing the game the way it was supposed to be done. The principle idea behind DU was to give the players tools and a set of world rules (physics etc.), and then let it play out with emergent gameplay. But that idea quickly got abandoned by NQ, since it requires that they actually need to know in detail how the game is supposed to work. Much quicker and less work to just add lots of quick patches and special rules for problems as they occur instead. Even if they break the universal world rules, and ignores that most of the balancing issues are because we don't have the tools and world rules needed for a complete ecosystem yet. It should be obvious to NQ that the reason why everybody is doing industry, is simply because that is the only part of the game that works proper and there are no alternatives. Just as it should also be obvious that people would build PvP ships as small and economical as possible, based on the size and weight of L weapon elements.

And it also turns out that JC seem to have some very specific ideas about how this game is supposed to be played after all..
