I support the banning of stacked elements and in general welcome the change, I think it will be good for the game in the long run.

Out of all the ships I built since joining DU during the first week of Beta, only one had some issues with element clipping which I was able to quickly fix. That's a 1/15 ratio or so, which is great imo.

I think it had something to do with the fact that when placing elements against each other they can be moved in increments less than 0.5 blocks, which is the default. As my tip I'd say always place elements on voxels first, then move them into place with arrow keys.

Hopefully we get a tidying-up of the element hitboxes in the future.

Every time I see this video pop up I think more and more NQ should add a cooldown on weapons when they are placed down. Have it be like 5 minutes before the weapon can be fired. Anyone going with the desire of engaging in PVP should have their ships already armed well before getting into the combat area anyways... At least whoever is watching on the other ship has the time to react if some joker decides to place down a XS core, a weapon and core their ship, which is more like griefing than actual PVPing.

PvP needs a long way to go, but you are wrong. the old way was terrible.  Absolutely the worst pvp i ever played in any game.  At least right now ships actually died.  And if beta launched with pvp how it is right now, we woulda been way better off, and retained way more people.  And now with speed changes coming soon to help Smaller cores get into range to use their weapons, the game has a chance to keep progressing to be better.

I am not some master harvester in DU by any stretch, but in my experience outer-planets is a bit more of a bulk-thing. You cant just short-order ship the non-t1 ore to the nearest market on the same planet for bot-sales, and people are less likely to buy it for a decent price if they have to also ship it to where they need it afterwards, so you need to be able to keep paying without profit until you have enough to make it realistically worth shipping in bulk to Alioth, at which point you sell it all to get a lot of money to tide things over until your next bulk-shipping.

As for somehow losing money on all of 5 t1 and 2 t3, my guess is that all of his tiles are in one cluster on an outer planet (an actual planet, not a moon, my guess is Feli), so he doesn't have any decent t1 tiles, and he is probably keeping all of his MU constantly topped off so he doesn't have the calibration points to spare to pick up the slack of his low-end coal tiles with better tiles somewhere else.

I'd advise he pull out of his current coal-tiles and go find a good 3-set of 500s on a moon, toss 4 MU on his Sanctuary tile for the free t1 there, only calibrate any given MU no more than once every 4 days (as you still automatically bump it back to 100% calibration on day 4 even in a surrogate without trying), and let the petalite slowly build as it will until it is worth bulk-shipping while the rest of his tiles cover the costs of everything.

What are you going to do with all the ore?

Unskilled 50% of MUs on a tile pay the taxes, everything beyond that is pure profit.

I ran a 10 tile mining area on a single account and did not go bankrupt. I did only 1 T2 and 1 T1 ore with that whole field, primary collecing on 2 60% and 2 40% territorires, T2 from all. (I packaged everything as I have enough of those ores and it was getting boring to do all the calibrating :P).

I think it is a good way, that the MUs (or calibrations) are limited. This way we stop just mining and do other things. --- Just would be nice if DU hat more other things to do.

It has been clear from the very start that combat would be the way it is right now. Elite Dangerous, Star Wars or Star Citizen space combat is not at all feasible with the game's infrastructure, with voxel technology already devouring most processing and server performance.

The pvp ad videos of NQ are scripted little things that wont realistically happen in ordinary happenstance. Carriers deploying fighters that dogfight around the big battleships that slug it out, Star Wars style, does look intriguing and is an eye catcher, but simply not a thing that happens outside of dedicated community events.

The best comparison you should draw your PvP expectations from is The Expanse franchise. Combat there happens through 3 (or 4 if you count flinging asteroids) weapons:
-railguns for long distance, but they are dodgable the further away the target is,
-torpedoes with practically unlimited distance, and
-PDC (point-defense cannons) which are for close quarter battle (CQB) or to actively take out torpedoes.
There you have 3 modes of range: torpedoes for far up to unlimited range, railgun for effective middle range upon moving targets and PDC as close range.
And most every single fight is decided in the long ranges by torpedoes and railguns. We are talking hundreds of kilometers. PDCs take out the torpedo threats but otherwise chances that ships even get close enough to riddle eachother with bullet holes of PDCs instead of already blowing up from the other 2 weapon types is very small.

In DU you have a similar concept, but 4 weapon types:
-Railguns for max range, high damage per shot but low dps
-laser for medium to long range, higher rate of fire and dps
-missiles for medium range, high damage per salvo, kinda like a "shotgun" to quote NQ themselves
-cannons for close to medium range, low damage per shot but high rate of fire for strong dps

Currently, and for the foreseeable future, PvP combat engagements will happen at rather large ranges, taking out targets at hundreds of kilometers before you would even be able make out a target with your eyes alone. Chances a ship with XS or S weaponry (being an XS or S core) getting close enough to an L ship to effectively use something like cannons is very slim. With ships all maxing out at 30.000 km/h they wouldn't be able to close the distance anyway, unless the approached L core wills it so.

I like the idea of long-range combat like this and am comfortable with it. IMHO we'd need small core vessels to be able to slot L or M weaponry to their S gunner seats (even if 1 L weapon completely maxes out the capacity of the chair) to make smaller core ships fill a niche and make them viable as being near impossible to hit by L cores while being able to meaningfully engage them at THEIR ranges. Then they could in return be countered by dedicated gun platforms with smaller caliber weapons to take out these niche S ships due to hit probs. Lots of balancing and math involved with that concept idea, but worth thinking about.

Otherwise pvp could maybe benefit some visual improvements. If you shoot something and go into third person you should see a little light flicker in the distance from the impact of your shot, not just having a hole appear on the enemy ship in the telescope.

PS: damn, look at me monologuing

You get free ore per month with auto miners Double dipping with the mining mini game Triple dip with VR mission Runs Quadruple dip with asteroid runs every weekend via VR Quintule dip with VR to run scans and use maneuver tool to move the ship to the next 3 tile cluster to scan.
one or all of those could be plugged if each of them used mining charges to VR since you get 208.6ish per month and charging a Quanta tax for VR. Beta keys are free play till launch and destroying the game from the inside out and something needs to be done about it.

So while I am unable to log in anyway, here my thoughts about Demeter so far:

-Mining units are fine for the most part, it would be nice if charge gain and calibration loss was both halved, just so that you dont have to log in every single day. We all know I will anyway, but the game shouldnt persuade you that hard.

-Headquarters are nice enough, it will just take a week or two for people to finally understand the concept "you still have to pay to have machines active, it is just immune to loss".

-I have noticed no difference regarding loading times or other benefits of the dirt reset, but plenty of other people are amazed they can now "VR someplace, or use scanners, like other people can". I wasnt even aware it was so shit for some others.

-Was still not able to find the "element overlapping" sign anywhere.

-But I do now have some weird bar across the minimap, even outside build mode, is that it? ?

-You got rid of mass info while flying, I liked checking my total cargo there, when I forgot to long to container or just have multiple hubs. This is not even in the patch notes, was it on purpose?

-I dont see updates on the updated roadmap.

-Not sure what rendering change there is to industry units, I had a good look when restart machines for 4 hours after the downtime, but they are still the same. And still show the wrong light colours and like to just get fucked all the time.

    -Force field change is nice.

-Underwater landing is even harder now, because water is muddier.

-Most of the "UI" polish is hard to judge without direct comparison, I really cant tell.

    -Space fuel XS, nice.
    -
Mining unit collision is massively bigger a few seconds after deploying. So if you place a few, you then have to rearrange them so they dont overlap.

-Added "view market page"! Hell yes, thx guys, I think most people didnt even notice this one yet.

-People who made DSATs had their 60M schematics turned into 3M schematics without compensation.

-People who owned DSATs, had their 16M items turned into a 1.7M item, with no compensation.
Instead of just introducing a new basic DSAT that only works on basic and common asteroids. Solving the same issue, but without fucking some people over.

-VR-mission change: There are two kinds of people (with some overlap) who do the big moneymaker missions.
Car-pool guys, where 20 people VR to one guy with a ship to take and turn in the mission.
Alt guys, where a guy and his 20 alts do the mission.
The car pool guys at least did something that, while imbalanceds in the game, was in theory available to everybody, you got rid of that. The Alt guys can continue unhindered. Why not use one of the working solutions?

    -Weapon changes: Nobody bloody cares.
I did the extremely hard math and found out that there are more engines in use than weapons, why not balance those for once? Just put pvp balancing on ice for now, it is a bottomless pit for dev time in some dirty shitcorner of the game most people dont visit anyway.

-Plenty of DC, lag, prolonged wait time, inability to log in, which I guess goes away in a day or two anyway.

Can you please hire a guy with the only job being to point out how something might be shit?  This game has issues, you come up with solutions, those solutions however often are flawed and turn out worse than the issue they try to fix. The dedicated "pointing out how this could be shit"-guy, would help.

I have to say Demeter pretty much sucks so far.

After spending eight hours scanning I found one hex that only sucks badly and a bunch of hexes that suck horribly. I grabbed the one that sucks badly, cause I don't have any reason to think I'll find anything better. If the ore market doesn't collapse it might pay it's own taxes. Fun on a scale of 1 to 10: -5 (that's minus 5).

The calibration minigame isn't as much fun as hand mining... by a long shot.

My friend found a hex that could produce 60kl coal per week... under optimal conditions... and said "not bad". (That does suck less than anything I found). He used to mine 600kl in a couple of hours. Slow production 100 fold and what happens? Economic collapse.

    Not optimistic.

Update 10-20-21 - REMINDER: These rules are still in effect and are now extended to mission hubs.

In an effort to improve the experience of visiting some of our most popular markets, we will be implementing a new set of rules for constructs left at markets. Enforcement of these rules will begin on the 3rd of September at 6pm UTC. (That’s one week from the date of this notification.)

We want to encourage a free and open game environment for all to enjoy. It’s in the spirit of that goal that these measures are being put into place.

Only ships are allowed on the market landing platform. Constructs must be parked outside the green perimeter line surrounding the main market building and the access ramp to the market. One container construct per entity (player or organization) will be allowed for the purpose of storage below the landing pads. Shop constructs, advertisements, and dispensers are not permitted at any markets. These should be placed on your own tiles or at districts instead. We would like to remind you that you now have the ability to place a “Welcome Visitors” marker on your territory.  Under no circumstances may player constructs intersect with the Aphelia constructs. Constructs at the Aphelia markets must be parked either on the landing platform or the ground around the Aphelia markets. Airspace within 2km of the market building must remain clear. XL screens and screen arrays are not permitted within 2km of the market building Constructs that violate these rules may be hidden, removed, or abandoned without warning. Novaquark reserves the right to move, hide, or delete constructs at its discretion, for example if they are designed to circumvent these rules or if they impact marketplace performance or usability.
To safeguard the performance of everyone visiting these locations, we strongly encourage players to adapt any screens and advertisements to use Lua based Render Script instead of SVG/HTML even if that is in the form of uploading an image of your SVG and then loading that into the Render Script.

They do need to address infinitely regressed sub-orgs that have no actual members other than the parent org, but why can’t they just allow a type of org that has no superlegate?

Then allow the org creators to choose initial voting mechanisms and (on creation) rules on what legates can and can’t do without voting.
even allow temporary, time limited powers to certain legates, for example.

Make rules like: access to wallet requires at least 3 to agree, or maximum daily wallet use limits etc.

and also rules for org owned assets: containers that require two or more legates present to open.

Or cores: deployment of org cores requires another legate to agree, etc.
build rights need to be agreed by vote etc.

that way alliances can still form.

forcing a superlegate is somewhat dystopian.

Despite our recent efforts to expand and clear out Market 6, we are still getting reports about performance and clutter. We want to assure our players that we understand your frustration and are still working to find better permanent solutions.

Meanwhile, we will be addressing clutter across Alioth this weekend. Our plan is as follows:
Dynamic constructs that have not had direct interaction with their owner over a set duration (currently 30 days*) will be hidden.  Constructs at the market that violate our rules,  Code of Conduct and EULA will be removed.
If your construct is hidden, you can unhide (recover) it by using the Fetch tool. To do this, right-click on it in the Construct list on your Map screen. Any constructs that you own, whether visible or hidden, will appear on this list.

Fetch functionality now works for organization-owned constructs as well. For hidden constructs that belong to your organization, your legates can retrieve them via that same functionality.

Our customer support team is at the ready if you still need assistance recovering your constructs. Simply ping our Live Support staff in the in-game help chat with “@GM” or file a ticket on our support page and we will dispatch help right away!

Please note that this is intended only as a temporary measure to aid performance and improve your experience when visiting these areas.

We look forward to seeing the results from these changes over the weekend.

I always find post like this interesting, those who condone and those who praise such actions.  As a member of the empire and also someone relatively new to the government/leadership in the Empire all I can really say is yep it was a hit but it has not destroyed anything except a trust and perhaps a friendship.  For him he is now someone known and it is less likely someone will trust him at all by far.  As for what assets got taken, it could have been a lot worse.  I was on as assets slowly got transferred but that as this is DU and you cannot do anything in the current mechanics with how you need to vote people out (which takes time).

Still I liked the guy especially trying to generate some PVP fun in a game sadly lacking this human interaction, civilization building, but equally I know how hard I mined to help improve things for the org so it was a hit to see time put in vanish.  Gutted I lost a few scanners and fuel I had stored in a hub.

Anyway this is all historic and past decisions by a previous leadership not the current one in existence as those players have long gone.   Things were turning in a far better direction and equally after this its gone 10 fold that way (except things are more restricted)  Still its not something I would do ever in an MMO as I respect people too much but I did hear it was the Eve way (glad I avoided that one).   I could personally have taken far more assets but hey that is not me and I'm pretty old school.

It’s not player vs player when one person is flying a murder ship and is skilled out in combat skills and the other is just a hauler. Real PvP is a challenge fighting people in ships which want to participate in PvP.

if you are not finding enough people who want to participate in PvP with you than the problem isn’t warp destroying PvP, it’s a lack of people that want to be involved in PvP.

Warp isn’t free, it has a cost. These traders are making a decision, risk getting into a fight they have no chance of competing in, or add the cost of warp to there overheads.

combat ships murdering traders rather than offering them a charge to escape etc., that’s what is killing PvP as everybody has to use warp or just be killed.
