Still really confused why everyone talks about this game like it is live?  It is a beta, which hasnt launched yet, I think about it purely in terms of how it will play when it actually goes live.  I dont care about my stuff now, why would I?  I dont care about population now, why would I?

I hope they do remove it, it was never supposed to be there.

Fully agree.. thats why this is alpha\beta version.. if cannot hold big changed- pls come to game after release .. You are right. But any way after release also game will be always change - this is online mmo with sub.. always change. Maybe not so big changes but always rebalance and make new changes

Obviously no one should be surprised about any changes. Especially in alpha/beta. Should really only join an alpha/beta if you can handle it, but many can't.

For such a heavy industrial game to lose the logistics side. Doesn't seem right. I assume new players will come in and only beable to harvest surface rocks until they earn enough to buy autominers.

This way organization's with the know how will be able to employ(heartily compensated NO SLAVE MINING AT MY ORG) and teach them the vast amount of information needed that the game has to offer. To set them on a path they would like to proceed in.

Let's be real. I'm new and have 47days of talent qued just for basic stuff. If it wasn't for how awesome the dual universe community is. I would of probably qued my talents in a way that would hinder my ability to do what I want to. The communication and friendliness in this game is unreal!!! This is the first game I have ever played that made me feel so invited.

I think they just need more safe zone asteroids. T1 ore is used most to craft everything, and the logistics of mining and transporting the ore from asteroids to market or industry slows it down enough, no need to make it scarce so only a few early birds are able to mine them.

Haunty reacted to Atmosph3rik in NQ can you provide background for the brake changes?
Brakes having obstruction makes sense.  All the other functional elements have it.  What doesn't make sense is atmo brakes not having obstruction all this time and then deciding to change it without telling us anything.

I'm hoping NQ takes their time with this change and makes sure it works before they implement it.

And I would really like to see some improvements to how obstruction works before they mess with the brakes.

Right now it's pretty frustrating trying to figure out if an element is obstructed, and if it is, why.

When it says an element is obstructed 10%, does that mean it's obstructed 10%, 100% of the time?  Or that it's obstructed 100%, 10% of the time? Seriously though if an element is obstructed it should show as obstructed all the time.

Why does the little fan icon turn on and off constantly??? it's driving me nuts.

We need a system that shows you exactly what the size and shape of the obstruction cone is, so we know what is causing the obstruction, and we need a clear indicator whether an element is obstructed or not.  I shouldn't have to wait 20mins for the little fan icon to blink once for exactly 2 seconds, to know an element is still obstructed at 5%.   That's insane.

NQ please consider fixing obstruction first, and then do the brakes.

One thing that would have made this tax implementation go over a bit smoother is if this patch also introduced the Duties part of RDMS. At least in relation to territories. Meaning you could collect duties or sales tax from players that are not you or part of your org but have constructs on your territory. This on the surface sounds like just passing the buck but I see a big reason for the negativity against the new tax as is it punishes people for holding territory with any purpose other than mining. This would give non miners, solo players and small orgs the option to be on someone else's tile while paying a modest fee to the territory owner.

This also encourages/gives reason for players to group up, play together, create cities and communities. The flat tax without adding a function to make money from these types of projects hurts orgs and players creating community spaces for shops etc.  This is likely in the plans for the future but if that is the case NQ sharing this information would help the community see the logic behind your design and reduce the rage to seemingly haphazard implementation.

Another small way to make this less painful is add talents to org management that help mitigate territory taxes. This is a great example of giving people ways to play outside of mining, building or pvp. Many people come to this game for things outside of those three paths. Is DU still billed as civilization building MMO?

Taxes are a means to remove inactive players and give us salvaging opportunities.

The scans we have were obtained by fair game play. Keeping them seems acceptable as the time was invested in the game to explore that hex.

Going to be in the minority, I love territory tax but then I love the stacking fix and brakes fix etc.  I suppose I just like challenging games, with some risk involved.......

Only thing i would say is, it does seem a little high.

There should be no brakes at all. We are 10.000 years in the future. We have Anti-gravity, Warp and Teleportation technology, yet somehow we still need engine walls burning fuel and gazillions of "brakes". We could instead have a small anti-gravity generator or some electromagnetic engines or so, which of course would work as propulsion both in the atmosphere and in space. No need for carrying massive amounts of liquid fuel in huge tanks and so on.

But no .... we have engine walls, 500 wings per ship,  379 vertical boosters, 498 large atmo brakes and 392 retro rockets. Yay ...

I completely agree, and our calculations also agree with your information here.

People do not tolerate change, it is better for them to stay in a worse world than to do something to move to a better one. People do not want change and this is their main problem. What is there to talk about if many cannot even adequately calculate the cost of goods on their own, taking into account skills - which is often shown by the market. And also there is overproduction.

Such changes are much better for the proactive.

The price per unit of ore will increase, since there will be less ore = the producer will do what is necessary and not everything in his mega-factory will make all the things in the game in one person. This is what causes overproduction. This means that the price per unit of goods will be relevant and profitable, almost regardless of what you will produce, it is beneficial for production workers, and to reduce these mega-building factories in size, which will also lighten the load on the server, reduce errors and allow players to spend less time on thousands of machines. In case of ore shortage or ore surplus, NQ will be able to easily change these numbers and control the economy so that it works and is profitable in all aspects. But yes, people do not understand this Since most do not even consider the price of the product, as I said earlier, and sell the product to themselves at a disadvantage, thinking that they are getting it.

It gives you %10 per hex, but each hex costs you more tax, so if you are just using it for the %10, then no it’s not worth it.

But the way ore is distributed is a heat map, which means got pockets of ore aren’t in isolation from each hex. So if you have a very good hex for a particular hex, there is a reasonable chance that the hex’s around them are reasonable. So therefore if you mine those as well, both hex’s get the bonus from each o her are are now worth it

The changes you propose will actively make the game worse. It shows you do not understand the need behind them.

Making the minimum efficiency 25% means that the optimal play is to not play the minigame at all, simply claim more tiles. The current limitations on calibration charges mean an account can support 36 autominers, which when combined with adjacency bonuses are best spread over a small group of 7 tiles. Putting a minimum efficiency floor means that an account can now use as many as it wants. This will result in entire sections of planets and moons being owned by the same person, who are using the 25% floor to pay for everything. This will additionally be exacerbated by your request for lower taxes. If the 25% floor can pay for the taxes of the tile, the whole system explodes. The entire game becomes a landgrab, and every tile will be claimed in short order.

As for adding more ore, that is simply not required. An account managing 36 autominers on a good set of tiles can net ~150kL of ore of various tiers per day. For some players who mine meganodes constantly that seems like very little, but for the majority of players who do not mine, this is 150kL more ore in the economy for each of them. Keep in mind that this can be maintained with only a 10m/day minigame, while you actively mine asteroids as well. This is not the only source of ore.

As for complaints about the majority of asteroids being in the pvp zone, you do have another option. NQ said they are adding more safe zone asteroids, so now you simply need to race to them when they spawn. Additionally, half the pvp asteroids on any given week go completely undiscovered, and those that are discovered rarely have anything below t4 mined out of them. There is plenty of ore on these asteroids for those who are organized, driven, and ready to take the risk for the greater reward.

As one of the people who kept complaining alot about the game.

It's time I show my appreciation as well.
I felt like you guys had a big weigh on shoulders deciding on removing the active mining from planets. DON'T BE SORRY!
Most of players who actually achieved something in this game are sick and tired of earthworm mechanic and i'm personally incredibly happy for this update!! Those who want hand mine, still can and will on asteroid!
SO just give us more asteroids and problem solved.
Thank you so much for the auto-miners.
I'm personally against this sniping tile mechanic. I just hope that this buff for having multiple tiles next to each other will compensate for the sniping of best tiles.
I also hope that tiles will be rather balanced so people who joined later will not be forced to live in shadow of those who sniped best tiles.

I think the auto mining units are a great add to the game. But NQ you really need to add more than half a dozen asteroids to safe zone. They're lot players in this game that don't care to pvp and the safe zone asteroids we do have are mined out to quick. With planet mining going away these asteroids will be over crowed and mined out in hours. I feel you will lose a lot of players in this game if you don't release more safe zone asteroids.

Did you watch the video?  They did discuss what happens when you don't pay the taxes.  For two weeks, the tile becomes "inactive" where industry and mining units won't work.  After that, the TU is deleted and the tile becomes available.  The only thing that wasn't clear (because they haven't decided yet) is what happens to constructs on that tile.

Pretty wild speculation given that they haven't even finalized how much the taxes will be.

Haunty reacted to FerroSC in Analysis of Element Stacking Popularity and Potential Methods of Alleviation
I think the challenge of designing around the limitations is part of ship building.  I think your description of the existing systems as limited only speaks to the limits of the builder's creativity.  A true craftsman can make excellent work with only simple tools.  It is the novice who needs a special tool, or an exception to every rule, to make a quality product.  This is why the ship creators are popular, because they used the existing tools to make great ships.  At a time,  jancko elements was one of the tools that was used.   To argue that a ship can not be built to the same quality without that tool is a reasonable position to take, but it's both subjective and irrelevant since the tool has been removed.   Many of my favorite ships in the game have zero "unbalanced" elements (see also, janko/clipped) and those ships perform outstanding and look terrific.  I think we should challenge ourselves with the tools we have.

The game is young and this will definitely not be the final form of ship building.  Maybe NQ finds a way to combine elements in a more sophisticated way?  Perhaps linking engines or stacking brakes as multi-element kits that are more aesthetically pleasing.  There are lots of cool things that could happen, but to say that you can't make good ships without this particular tool is untrue.  To play a physics based game and insist on physics breaking tools is just counter intuitive.  Of course there are form factors that are the most efficient.  Of course there are physical limitations to the different sized cores.  The things you say are obstructing creation are many of the same things that are fueling innovation.
