The PvE community will never allow a PvP server to exist, they don't like PvP, but they don't like creative servers either, these players like to live the illusion that they are preparing to be pvp players in the future, when they have more skills, when losses can be allowed, when the game works better, or any other excuse that allows them to postpone that decision in the future, staying on a PvE server when there is a PvP server would put them in an emotional situation that is difficult to accept. They just want to keep the illusion of a future with PvP.

maybe. I bought DU exactly because of 'Player driven game' slogan. It expected to have the same freedom as 'you know what game'
so I wish this game my best and I will check it next year.

Huge safe zones where you can't wage war. Pvp pushed to the edges for a a few niche plasma 99% of the player base doesn't care about. No player markets, and now NQ making showrooms and exchange because captains customs and all the countless others weren't good enough? This game has 0 npcs or real pve content and was marketed as player driven, yet every patch they restrict what a player can do in the universe.  I don't see this game lasting 6 months past "release".

Rust is currently the 8th most played game on Steam...

Why do the PvP-adverse crowd always try to gaslight people into believing the PvP community is small and niche?

A lot of people did that. And DU population is now rather small. I am not sure if this advice is really helpful for DU or is actually killing it, but OK.

So much for player driven. Is this what NQ spends their time on? Something inferior to that players have already created years ago?

Talking about the physical size of the PvP area is obviously silly.  Instead talk about what is in that area.  The PvP area is mostly empty.  There are some asteroids and 10 alien cores.  That's it.  The non PvP area has all the planets and moons and all the markets.

Clearly most of the game is in the non-PvP area regardless of how much big empty space is technically PvP.

What is needed for PvP to work isn't space but locations where people go and reasons for being there.  That's how you combine pirates with people who want to risk pirate attacks, etc.

This bring us back to the something seriously off with NQ part. They seem utterly incapable of deliver a product in a reasonable time frame.
And by that I mean that NQ had >150 employees at one time, and still have 73 registered employees. So this is not a small company.

Hello Games (No Man Sky) in comparison had 26 employees in 2020...

And that's the core of the problem...NQ's original "idea" for DU was way too ambitious for the resources they had.

DU needed a niche...but instead it promised to be a great place for builders, PvP'ers, politicians, pilots, traders, industrialists...when you reach so wide, sometimes your arms break.

I'm not saying DU is better off without PvP...but as a small studio, they needed to pick a niche and stick with it because they never had the means to create both a great building sandbox experience and an engaging, robust PvP layer and make the two ideas gel.

NQ may not be "indie" with over $20 million in investment, but far more simplified MMOs are built with over 10 times the budget...they needed to focus on one niche/player group instead of obsessing over this fantastical metaverse ideal where "everyone can find something to do".

The feature depth required to really bring balance and satisfaction to both player groups was beyond NQ's reach, especially considering that the first years were led by someone with zero experience who didn't understand the difficulties they'd face. That set the stage long ago; NQ today can only change the props and the players, because there's no time to rewrite the script.

The way I see it there is no indication NQ will ever change.

And with that in mind I question the worth of burning bridges and generating even more negativity with the players who actually play the game despite all the problems, for a perceived chance that more players might be joining at release.

And I also suspect that any new player who will use the wipe as a decider for joining or not, is not going to be sticking around for long with DU in the state it is and NQ being well... NQ.

No, players should always be playing the way they want to within the framework set by the game.
So if NQ can't design a "community driven" MMO that actually makes players want to be a part of the community, then that is not on the players.

Ok, while on alioth with alt v static constructs selected ............ they vanish after less then a minute in the flight seat, same with any category on the list.tested on multiple ships on alioth.
And yet NQ thinks they are anywhere near launch ready ........will not be buying this in its current state, and i know most of who i've played with, that haven't left already, are tired of the naive and inexperienced blunders that have been repeatedly deployed.
I suggest NQ stop drinking there own kool aid....... you are a hair away from failure, and if that's not obvious to you.....there is zero hope of rightling the ship

no one is playing. game is stagnating. wipe is ahead. the is nothing to lose for now. lets try more PvP everywhere (except Haven and Sanctuary). lets try planetary PvP according space rules. lets try in now because after release it will be impossible to do global changes.
if this game is THE SPACE MMO ENTIRELY BUILT AND DRIVEN BY PLAYERS why I can't control my guns everywhere where I want to? if it's peaceful minecraft in space why here are weapon?

I think this game should provide more PvP using the same mechanics. just turn on planetary PvP according space rules. because now no PvP-> no elements loss -> no economics -> no competition -> no interest in game.

I've waited and waited and waited for a _reason_ to return. Even when I was playing, the aspiration of territory warfare was always been my reason. I played expecting it to happen. I got to the end of my patience and stopped playing. The mining unit update was the absolute worst change ever; incredibly repetitive and boring. The only thing that will have me, an emerald backer, come back to even try DU again will be territory warfare.

Yet, you're asking me to "play now so we can get data". No.

I'm sick of the safe zones. The beta was completely botched with the dual launch of the sanctuary moon AND then Alioth being safe too; WHAT EVEN THE EFF! All the planets with their safe zones around them... just so incredibly frustrating.

What motivates activity is the chance to build something or acquire things *in the face of adversity*. I'm all for the sanctuary moon and the tile per account (I'd say that's too much even, but different discussion) for creativity to flourish. But the real reason to do anything needs to be once I pop out of the sanctuary moon, I can freaking die, I can lose something, but I can also conquer territory, be a pirate, hunt pirates, protect convoys, hunt asteroids, do missions, but all of that has to be under threat AND present opportunities for ME to be the threat. I know I can try really hard and go find a fight, but that's not what I'm talking about; I want to be in a fight as a by product of a more broad goal, and right now you have to simply find value in acquiring "stuff".

An incredible number of people in this community could design a start to territory warfare, and so can you. Just freaking do it. This post isn't about warfare being the goal; it is that the existence of it is what adds to feeling of accomplishment when doing literally anything else. That has been the key failure of this project so far, understanding motivation of the player. It has entirely rested on people's desire to be creative, and that only goes so far in a closed ecosystem where their creations die with the project.
