    hdparm reacted to Hirnsausen in Blueprints: Material Changes Possible
    Like in real life, ingame blueprints should allow for some types of changes.  hose changes are permanent on the BP until being changed again. Possible with DRM-protected BPs and own BPs.

    EXCHANGES (selct from a list of compatible materials)
    - each type of honeycomb can be exchanged with another one (example: Matte Black Plastic to be replaced with Matte Yellow Plastic)
    - each type of engine can be exchanged with another one of equal dimensions (example: Basic Space Engine S to be replaced with Advanced Military Space Engine S)

    DELEITIONS
    - any listed element type can be deleted entirely without any replacement
    - any listed honeycomb type can be deleted without replacement (though this can lead to slightly distorted shapes of remaining honeycombs in cases of voxel artist work)

    The game was viable till 0.23 with whatever pvp we had, if i would guess the head chopping had to do with 0.23 where they lost thousands of players, and in the aftermath with the schematics scam where they lost even more. But Pride prevented any return on decisions and we are left with the debree.

    No idea where they are needed for, to frustrate people? hold them back? money sink? Because decent development of a research approach to crafting was never tried? Because nanananana? till this day i have not seen a single reason why they are needed that makes sence.

    But apparently the schematics were needed more then a few thousand alpha players who really stopped playing in the week following the introduction. And all is well with a good reason or explanation, but none is given.

    schematics turned the game from an open building game in tot a mining grind fest survival simulator, which for me is just a big no.
    So patch .23, combined with all the other errors and DU apparent meeeeh good enough attitude was the nail in my coffin

    I keep seeing posts. comments, and people inferring that solo playing is unwanted, frowned upon, etc. WHY? I'm retired, I play 12 to 16 hours a day, i love building, i even have a youtube for stuff i build in games. i prefer to do it myself and not have to rely on someone else. It's a survival type game right? so that means ideally that you need to rely on yourself to do things, right? i get the organizations, i understand that. but i want to live by my rules and crash my own ships not have someone else do that and leave me the repair bill, etc. i sell and buy from market a lot as a new solo player, (err um..used too). the game should be for anyone and everyone.

    Well, I added a suggestion for read/write access to voxels from Lua. True, 99.5% of players wouldn't use it, but the 0.5% who do would create amazing things everyone would use. https://upvote.dualuniverse.game/suggestions/150263/support-lua-readwrite-access-to-voxels

    Make the launcher compatible with OS other than windows 10 again. Or simply revert back to old launcher. Or even just give people the option with what launcher to use.
    Game currently runs perfectly well on Windows 7 systems, but that has been prohibited after the launcher update. Even the swap over to the new launcher originally was still viable as you could get it to work after manually installing web view - but after it's third or forth update, it just refuses to run at all.

    I just find it really really odd that NQ would deliberately remove the ability of a chunk of people to play their game, which otherwise runs perfectly fine and without issues, through what at this point looks like deliberate effort. Like a developer had to go through the trouble of creating something that specifically doesn't work on a portion of the systems, then when people got it working "updated" it to definitely not work. Just very very odd business model in my humble opinion but eh, what would I know?

    hdparm reacted to Nayropux in Instead of getting rid of HTML, make use of features in CoherentGT
    I'm going to keep this short, since I haven't played in 3 months:

    Removing HTML is overkill. The UI rendering solution you use in game already supports dynamically updating HTML without having to rewrite the entire content. See data binding in: https://coherent-labs.com/Documentation/cpp-gt/df/dfb/_h_t_m_l_data_binding.html

    If you're worried about performance, this will be more efficient than your new Lua solution. You should make use of the technology you have already licensed and use instead of reinventing the wheel. More advanced UIs could be generated with the use of JS on top of this.

    hdparm reacted to Gottchar in [fresh from the future] a review of patch .25, july 2021
    Alright, let’s talk about the positives first.
    -fixed linked container range after VR. That is quite sweet, I like it, but you are no linked to the second last container you linked to. They hotfixed the infinite range on that after 30 minutes, but the new situation is as annoying as the old one.
    -Notifications now correctly show size of the item sold or bought. Again, really nice, but the item name is now missing. Instead of "sell order of 2 uncommon space engine" it now says "sell order of 2 XL" (at market market)
    -"A possible crash when using fireworks in the northwest corner of a space station close to feli while still on the first step of the long tutorial has been fixed". About bloody time.

    Now to the bad stuff.
    -While the extension to the extension of the parking space at market 6 may solve the parking issue. I think maybe we need a more long term solution.
    -The introduction of LUA controllable speakers really did not help the market 6 situation. Especially since the client still loads all sound files, even if you turn the sound off.
    -the idea of warpgates to create chokepoints but also shortcuts for long distance travel is awesome. Sadly in the first hours players were able to build space station directly in/at the gates within the safebubble. Why is there a safebubble anyway?
    -There was yet another ninja patch and now nickel is the strongest for pvp. After every patch we have to check the stats for honeycomb.

    For anybody who missed it, here the transcript for the MC interview, the video is currently down.

    user: So most of the industry talents don’t work, the other trees also have talents that do nothing or the opposite. When will those get fixed, what is so hard about fixing them?
    MC: Great question. As DU is a consistent single shard universe with a player driven economy, we think that only a low amount of users actually do industry with massive factories while most other users dive deep into all the other content the game has to offer.
    user: So about that other content, some players are complaining that besides mining and selling to bots or ship building and spamming advertisement there is not really that much to do.
    MC: Yes, i fully understand your question. So we constipated Dual universe as a consistent single shard universe with a player driven economy and deep industry mechanics. The world is yours to take and make your own.
    user: Also, given that the new player experience gets worse and worse, with the broken tutorials and and only free tiles 40 kilometers from the next market, it seems the influx of new players has stopped. Do you see this as an issue that needs fixing?
    MC: The interesting thing for new players to discover in DU is that we actually made this game as a consistent single shard universe with a player driven economy. As such, the new players are a business opportunity for the existing players.
    user: The other players and I, especially I, especially right now, often don’t feel understood. Do you think the new ticket based feedback system, with positive feedback pushed to the front via "triage system in times of increased activity" can give you the information you need about what the community is thinking?
    MC: Oh yes, you are right, I totally agree. We listen to the players, this is important as our game, like our economy, is player driven in our consistent single shard universe. The world is yours to take and make your own in Dual Universe, a consistent single shard universe with a player driven economy.

    But the thing is, 0.23 also pretty much killed your ability to 'make your own stuff and have fun' without having to play mining simulator 95% of the time. So 0.23 was a lose-lose scenario all around.

    so I had a lot of fun with the state before 0.23. I would have had long-term motivation. Of course, there would still be missing content, but at least the confidence would not be gone. Now I'm always afraid that NQ will make the game mechanics more annoying and time-consuming, which often prevents me from investing time in DU because I don't know how persistent it is.

    But that is just my opinion.

    hdparm reacted to blazemonger in So, when is the game getting rolled back?
    Had, shortly after the mistake was discovered and corrected and not hours later,  NQ come back with :

    "We are aware that due to a mistake on our end, for which we do apologize, players have been able to acquire elements and schematics at a fraction of the cost.  While we look at the best way to undo these transactions we ask you do not use or trade these items as they will be removed from the game. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation"

    There would have been exactly zero fallout. This is not hard and basic situation management a gaming company should be able to apply. It would have shown ownership, direction and set clear expectations. It would have also given then time to then focus on resolving the issue and not having to fire fight.

    And this is just 1 guy, at this point it make much more sense to have prices cut down by 100 times then reverting them back to normal, at least we would have balance AND we could all have a laugh over the idiot who now has 112 worthless schematics.

    I don't think they fully understand the implications of this boneheaded maneuver. No industrialist is going to spend any more money on expensive schematics until the damage is known. Completely ridiculous for me to spend 90 million on setting up a pipeline just to compete against someone who can do it almost for free.

    I have no choice but to wait a month or two for the markets to settle and if I keep playing just to hoard up my cash until then. When all industrialists do that, the shortage of elements that people are complaining about will just get worse (except for the ones with "free" schematics). If people can't buy the stuff they need, then they quit too. The cascade effect of this is really pretty bad. JC should be pissed, as his vision for the post 0.23 economy just got flushed down the toilet.

    hdparm got a reaction from x0backslash0x in [Lua] All global variables
    This is the output of a script that dumps all global variables. Lua coders may find this somewhat useful.

    The script was run in r0.21.2 on a hovercraft seat that has 2 fuel tanks and a radar linked. Some functions were called with pcall. The first value indicates whether the call was successful, the second is the actual return value or the error message.

    To see only elements' functions, visit this topic.

    Dumping script
    The script used for dumping is based on something I found on Stack Overflow, with some extensions.

    In unit start(): https://gist.github.com/d-lua-stuff/180707c172382d06d2c80213a1638f66
    In system update():
    coroutine.resume(dumping_coroutine) The script will run for a few seconds and then automatically turn off. Output is saved to Dual Universe 's log files in %LOCALAPPDATA%\NQ\DualUniverse\log

    Dump analyzer
    To avoid having to look through the logs manually, a Python script was written. It extracts the output of the globals dumping script from Dual Universe's log files, and creates separate files for dumped globals and for members of each linked element.

    Usage:
    pip install six python dump_analyzer.py C:\Path\To\Log\File.xml Change log
    2020-09-01. Posted the first version outside the NDA forums section.

    @FluxFaraday By default hover engines are "magicked" to produce thrust along gravity. This can be disabled by right-clicking the hover engine, selecting "Advanced" and "Disable Thrust Along Gravity".

    Vertical booster behavior can be changed too. You can right-click them and enable thrust along gravity.

    @KuntChopsMcFrontButt Try this:
    local rgbColor = vec3(light.getRGBColor()) local r = rgbColor.x -- rgbColor["x"] would also work system.print(r) But, you don't really need vec3 here. When the codex says "vec3", it means an array-like table with 3 elements, not a cpml.vec3 instance. This should also work:
    local rgbColor = light.getRGBColor() local r = rgbColor[1] system.print(r)

    My sincere thanks to NQ for their efforts to make this game.  I think it has great potential, but wanted to give some candid feedback on my experience.

    I've been enjoying this game throughout the beta, mostly as a solo player who has focused on industry.  I was starting to recruit players into my org and also belong to another org.  I have a modest but capable factory (until now) where I have been making products such as lights, displays, doors, etc. and successfully selling them on the market.  I invested the profits into crafting ships and expanding my base.  I enjoyed the market and crafting very much until this update.  (https://discord.com/channels/184691218184273920/748572194463940759/789842770884821022)

    Now my factory is nearly useless.  I don't have enough talent points to access much of my industry and refineries, plus I would need to buy expensive schematics.  What am I supposed to do with a factory full of machines I can't access?  I can't earn credits other than mining, which is very tedious.  Without credits, fuel and materials, I can't build or fly ships or build bases and factories.

    You haven't nudged me away from solo play (a direction I was already heading).  Instead you have pushed me off the cliff.  I tried to train using the talent points I had (a very tedious and obscure process) and ended up with a useless factory that I can't do anything with, ships I can't fly and nothing to do but mine.  I could join a large org, but my vision of building up a smaller org and recruiting players is dead.  I was very active in the market, now I can't make anything to sell.

    I will not be playing DU anymore, at least until the gameplay changes in such a way that solo players/small orgs can have a path other than endless grinding in the mines.
