Honestly id prefer no wipe. A wipe only hurts the game for the most part from what i can see. Even moreso if no bots save schematic bots are around.

Sure it "levels" the playing field but what happens when a group like say boo or hyperion can get all their players on? they will have large factorys for basic S and even M parts on day one by pooling resources and nano packs to make basic parts for larger elements. By the end of the first week they will be producing TCUs and TSUs to go find and claim megas assumeing they arent in the same spots as before. They will have by relitive terms huge ships compared to everyone else and are highly unlikely to sell any excess parts to the market. And its highly likely by the time solos and small orgs have S ships flying and start produceing enough TCUs and TSUs most of the better land will be claimed already by the mega orgs.

Meanwhile smaller orgs and solo players will be struggleing to get their first XS ships off the sanc moon (no bots and its HIGHLY unlikely big orgs will sell TCUs and TSUs early on) and into the air because it takes weeks or months to get small factorys up to produce even S elements on welfare money. Plus all the solo factorys and mini org factorys we have now flooding the market with cheap parts wont be around and supplies of said parts will be low and super expensive for a long time. Especially with early on quanta being destroyed at such a massive rate as large orgs build up to larger and better elements.

This will force players to either form new mega orgs to try and get ahead. Or to join existing orgs at the bottom of the pecking order as a mining serf with minimal prospects of climbing the ranks. And for those who think "oh the market will settle eventually" sure it will. But it will be long after the big orgs get an even tighter death grip on the economy and all but squeeze small players out of the market or just outpace everyone internally so vastly it doesnt matter. And this is all ignoreing issues like game changes conatantly turning the market on its head for small groups and solos.

There is exactly zero good that can come from a wipe as all it does is cement the death grip on the economy for big orgs and destroys the handful of small or solo factorys we have now keeping everything supplied. Plus with there being so little content all it will do short term is kneecap the playerbase.

Maybe later on when we have more and better gameplay loops, more money faucets, and more varied ways for players to make money. Then a wipe will make more sense. Right now though it makes zero sense and all it will do is shove a sword through the gut of the game.

I agree, Orgs will always do well, but that is the Eve side of the game. I stopped playing Eve some time ago, not because of orgs, but for the freedom of building my own ships. That for me is the thing that brings me to these games. I really don't mind orgs doing well, I just don't want to be part of that side of the game.

Another reason we will never see those is because they first told us we could build them, then they showed they could be build and we should all build our dreams!!! And then came the restrictions for: Performance, Pvp, PvP, statics have no goal, pvp, why would anyone build statics so more restrictions on dynamic, flying is to easy more restrictions, pvp, industry is cheap this hurts pvp,, etcetera.
so after killing of most ideas and hopes for small organizations to push everyone in some large organization there is only a need of a few people with ideas and telling a few individuals about what is going to change or what is bugged and can be exploited does not help. DU was promised as build in freedom everything you want, combination of minecraft and eve, pure freedom... But in the end apparently it can only live with enough PVP people and thus is alot restricted to push in that direction.

Once there was a posibility to actually build a +8km dynamic space city with merchant zones and industry, now it lives on in Space engineers because clang is much more forgiving then general restrictions.

And because everytime someone shouts, they never said that, here is the kickstarter page that holds all the info:

    Why though?

why are people so obsessed with other people's progress in the game.

Progress in games like this is cumulative.  You progress over time.  Through patience, and effort.

There's no leader board.  No ranking.  You can't be the winner.

Just let people play the game.

This. When I first started a month or so ago, I had questions that tutorials and the minimal game instructions did not answer. The community there, whether talking about loose morals of mothers or just giving out the joke of the day, responded quickly, immediately, accurately. I myself have never been trolled or ridiculed there.

Yes they need better ingame communications, thats a fact. It has been asked for. Eventually it may or may not come, but in the meantime any moderation in the ONE channel we all have would serve to just anger more players.

It would be nice to see it in game, fly with it, fight against it. Does it fly like a rock? A bird? it can be pretty but can it haul 100kL into space? Simulations even at todays sophistication can never tell all nuances or flaws of a design. Just look at Boeing or SpaceX. The only way to truly test a system, even today, is with a prototype. Even then flaws can sneak in.

Real life example is a modern car. $6 Billion USD is the cost of one model redesign. And that is JUST A car. That money is pumped back into the economy (game) by jobs, materials, research, etc... I bet you would scream if it cost you just 5 Billion Quanta to use creative mode.

I went through at least two large ships and an elevator at and near Market 17 on Alioth, but because of lag, I did not crash or take damage.

So the moral is, that the lag can giveth and the lag can taketh away.

Long term, removing bots would cause prices to fall, right?

Bots are one of two ways currency gets injected into the game. Without bots, the only way to "print" money is through the daily login bonus.

Less currency supply means deflation -- each unit of currency is worth more because there's less of it to go around.

The fact that the game doesn't have a way to print money other than daily login and bots...it's another one of those core design issues that should have been thought about a long time ago.

There's a reason MMOs have NPCs and NPC drops...beyond injecting fresh money into the currency supply, it also makes for many easy gameplay loops.

They want everything to be "run by players"? Fine...but they do still need an actual plan which they haven't bothered to make after this many years. Not for the economy. Not for gameplay loops. Not even for basic player interactions like PvP....and that's NQ's core issue.

They don't want to plan. They want to be "different", but don't want to think too hard about what those differences actually mean for the game's design and gameplay.

This here kind of invalidates your attempt to come across as knowing your/the business.
Besides the number being wrong (investment and crowdfunding is/was about 24M or in in total) that money is long gone. Consider that NQ started work end of 2014, as of early last year has two studios, about 100 staff, an expensive AWS cluster and back end servers to pay for on a monthly basis. I can only guess but I am pretty sure money is extremely tight at NQ as an best case scenario. Their last cash injection was last year July at €11M

The game is obviously far from in a beta state and frankly I would be hesitant to label it Alpha seeing how many major (at release) features, game loops and mechanics are not even conceptualized yet, let alone work on hem has started...

I'm not sure why some have such short draw distances, I see constructs from quite far away, certainly further that you describe. It makes me wonder what hardware you run on.

My setup: 3700X/RTX2080/32GB 3200/NVMe storage running at 1440p and I run at or around 50-60FPS most of the time which IMO is pretty decent at this stage.
Care to share CPU/GPU/Memory and storage medium for cache as well as monitor res?

Also, mostly to accommodate Pre Zen2 AMD CPUs, NQ included an option to reduce the cores used for voxel calculations for good reason as AVX handling is really not great on those CPUs. Can't say this applies for you but if so, just try and set that core count lower and see if that improves things.

Do you have shadows off? Crashes are occurring at log in, in many cases, due to shadows being off. Setting dynamic and environmental shadows to low seems to fix this for many/most.

What other programs are running that might cause the admit to think you are cheating? Thus are blocked. Could be that you were still registered as being in game and thus the admin block and not another program.

The ship you are flying, does it have lots of little elements or fewer, larger ones? Masses of XS or S elements cause lag, for many, if not everyone.

What height are you flying? I generally fly no lower than 3000m anywhere, except when landing, and often will go above 4000m to avoid elevators and/or lag.

I am seeing objects draw on my screen at about 6.5km distance, not terrain, but actual player-constructed objects. At what distance are you seeing drawn elements when not suffering from lag?

Some higher end systems are dealing with worse lag than some systems that barely meet the minimum recommended. Optimizations for this is in the future, not the present.

My personal record for login crashes was 8 in a row. Now fixed when I changed the shadows setting. I will often slideshow when approaching Market 17 on Alioth, but now nearly any market because the toxic/salty/former players decided they'd park their crap in the way at markets, to screw those of us playing. I also switched to fewer and larger elements for my ship, which really helped with some lag I was having in open country, away from markets or lots of player constructs.

That is actually an excellent question. I work for a 'cutting edge' company that appears to be spiraling wildly between what the company claims they want, and how they demonstrate it extremely poorly by largely dismissing customers and employees alike. Their excuse is the same 'new company', 'never been done before', 'nothing like it' and such.

Even if this were the first game ever created, business fundamentals 101 should logically always prevail. Don't make sudden, unannounced changes in ANYTHING. Make your objectives crystal clear in a report, not one-liners, and never NEVER ignore your customers.

I ask two similar questions rephrased: What EXACTLY did NQ learn? What EXACTLY are they going to do to move forward and to avert anything on this scale from ever happening again?

As I have said elsewhere DU has an identity crisis going on. It's either a minecraft sandbox with no risk and the sole objective of getting youtubers to show off their "creations" to a fanbase, or it's meant to be an MMORPG where you actually have to strive to achieve something , with risks and challenges. Right now it appears to be leaning heavily one way , and if voxelcraft in space is not your cup of tea you will likely be dissapointed in the end.

The whole single shard idea can be thrown out the window once creatives spend all time time in some solo sandbox where they can access everything in the game without effort. Why would they bring BP's into the game world to sell? What on earth do they need money to spend on they have a whole solo world to build their ships and fly them around a little and never have to lift a finger to get resources, participate in the market etc.

The unintended consequences of deviating from the more hardcore MMO vision presented before is likely to turn the game into something many here won't like to play. Doesn't mean it will die, solo sandbox games have been popular for a long time. It just means those wishing for a universe full of life, drama, consequences and challenges will find themselves looking elsewhere eventually. Just wait till TW is announced as 'opt in' to make sure no one is 'forced to stay in the safe zone'.  I have no inside info on that, just my feeling given how fast they capitulated full stop on 0.23.

I also agree with the rest of your post as I setup industry to automatically build tier 1 pilot elements with a screen that shows Ore levels (thanks to a org mate). All that newbies that join needs to do is make sure the ore containers are filled and they can build ships. Nothing fancy but I spend a lot of hours on this and I just don't have the in-game currency to setup a factory to craft 10% of what my nano crafter can do.

I don't think removing element damage was necessary - it just needed to scale with the quality/complexity of the element.

    Something along the lines of:
    T1 Element - 8 Restorations for collisions
    T2 Element - 7 Restorations for collisions
    T3 Element - 6 Restorations for collisions
    T4 Element - 5 Restorations for collisions
    T5 Element - 4 Restorations for collisions

Perhaps then make it to where weapon damage removes 2 restoration points, instead of 1.

Now, core damage? Yeah, that needed to change. I think upping the HPs  considerably, and lowering collision damage on them
would benefit both PvP and non-PvP. For one, it'll make it harder to lose one in a crash, with the benefit of making ramming a non-option.
