    Hi Folks,

I had some time on my hands to do my hobby. And I have to say this, it is fist time in my life I decided to share with you some tunes I've created being inspired by this game. Even created account on soundcloud, yay!.

I really like the music behind this project but I was trying to add more diversity. You know... some faction related stuff

    Here it is, faction anthem.

Hope one day all my friends from Organisation will fly to it together
    https://soundcloud.com/daniel-wasilewski-4/homeless-march-of-giants

And this piece.. I would imagine yourself in deep space, out of oxygen, resources, energy but...
    https://soundcloud.com/daniel-wasilewski-4/homeless-never-give-up

Apologies for some glitches, levels out of balance etc... This is very rough material, still trying to figure out how to record this properly from my moXF6.

And if you got inspired, created some music, art, please share it with us!

Here is the link to entire collection I occasionally updating with new song:

I'm seeing a lot of people associating the noble lifestyle choice of Piracy with low-class griefing. This is completely untrue. While some pirates may be griefers and some griefers may be pirates, Piracy is not Griefing.

Griefing is the simple act of doing something to anger someone. Destroy a project or what have you.

Piracy is a way of life. We provide those fringe services you may not be able to find through completely legal means. We also provide completely illegal services to law-abiding citizens who may have need of our particular skills. Smuggling, spying, espionage, sabotage, information brokering, to name a few of these services. We get our hands dirty so yours stay clean in the public eye.

    Basically?

The more players are within a certain geometry, the more resources are allocated into said area of the server to compensate for the processing power required, by dynamically splitiing the server into sub-divisions (clusters) that operate within a larrger server cluster. Anythin g within that mega-cluster, is updating rapidly, while the rest of the unvierse goes on a slower rate of updates.

That is achieved by cloud-based server hosting. What the Cloud is, it's up to you to research, bottom-line being "many servers, computing as one", this als omeans though, that what you run (the ship you fly, has scripts, which you run, the wepaon turrets, have scripts which you oeprate) are run locally in your machine, hence, you become part of said Cloud-server. So, the server only updates locations and checks numbers, it doesn't actually run ANYTHING on its end, either it being script or fly patterns. The autopilot on your ship? Your RAM is the one that get's taxed, not the server's.

That basically means there's no real limit on how many people can be in a certain area at one time. If there are 100 people, it's like 5 servers ( one for each continent, I guess). The servers can be spun to meet the demand, while the rest of the unvierse is "fridged", when nobody is around.

Now, beyond that, the game's company can recruit more servers via the same cloud-magic, to reinforce its update rates and client handling. Let's say 100 people play in one area, from all around the world. The server cloud would be hosted in 5 servers, one for each region. If the players were to be 1000, that wuld need 50 servers. 10000 players, 500 servers and the list goes on and on.

This is also the reason the game needs a suscription.

    Cheers.

    Hi everyone,

This kind of thread has only one effect: to stir up drama in the community (even with a humorous tone).
Reminder: if you think there is a problem with a community member or a group, please contact one of the Community Managers in private (NQ-Nomad or myself) and we will handle the situation. It's not right for a member of the community to seek justice by starting a public thread.

    @OutlandishRep:
This is not the first topic you started to blame publicly a person or a group of person for some reasons.
While there might be sometimes legitimate reasons, it's not your role here to "bring justice".

I posted in one of the recent Ads for Solar Secure and gave them a bit of crap for spamming.

But just to be clear i was only giving them crap for the totally unsolicited private forum message.  It had nothing to do with double posting their recruitment message by mistake.

The double post thing has to at least partially be caused by how these forums work.  I've seen more double posts on these forums then i ever have before.  Although i guess it might also have to do with so many more people posting using cellphones?

Anyway the issue for me was absolutely 100% about MMOTHEBOSS using the private messaging system to send out unsolicited recruitment messages.  That is just not what the messaging system is for.

No one deserves the level of vitriol that was spewed into that thread though.  But i also think it's important for some of the people who may be new to the world of constructive online gaming communities, and discussion forums, to be taught some of the basic ground rules that allow them to exist without turning into a cesspool.

This isn't an AOL chat room or a FPS lobby or whatever it is people think it is.

The only way you can WIN here is by helping to make the game better.  There is NO REWARD for having the highest post count.

Before Dual Universe I spent countless hours scouring the internet looking for -that- game. I think many other people know exactly what I'm talking about. -The- game that would tie you down and keep you immersed for hours, where you could live in a virtual world and be part of something bigger, where you could build your dreams and be part of a whole other universe.

I was feeling rather down, depressed or sad take your pick, in the months before I learned about DU from E3. I was feeling kind of burnt out about things happening in projects I was involved in (I was a dev on Bitcoin Classic) and just generally was very mopey. I wasn't sure what else was going to come along that would suck me in and make me feel like I could contribute in any meaningful way.

When I discovered DU I was ecstatic, and I don't think there was a grain of pessimism inside of me. As soon as I saw the trailer, as I'm sure others can attest to, I knew exactly what it meant for gaming as a whole (especially sandbox gaming) and I just knew what it was NovaQuark was attempting to create.

I don't think I've been as happy in a long time, being part of DU Explorers, flying out to PAX to meet JC at the NQ booth, getting to be involved in various happenings here and there, everything Dual Universe has been a very positive experience in my life this year.

Lately, I've been feeling down again. I don't know if it's because of the lack of interest in getting people to be on DU Explorers for another episode (we haven't had one in 3 weeks...) or if it's seasonal or something else entirely. I couldn't even bring myself to write anything for NovaWrimo with all the back and forth banter and arguments between different organizations. I'm just exhausted.

I'm sure things will turn around here after the new year. Although, unless I can get another episode of DU Explorers together soon, I think I'm going to be taking a break from DU for a few weeks.

Regardless of all of that, which are purely my own problems, I think the main purpose of this was for me to say thank you to NovaQuark and Happy Holidays to everyone there for everything that you're doing for us.

Even in these early stages of development, what you're doing has had a special impact on hundreds if not thousands of people. I don't think anyone here will disagree that you're doing something that has changed our lives forever.

Between all the new friends we've all made, and all of the excitement we've been able to be a part of (Kickstarter was a nerve-wracking blast), we've certainly come a long way and it feels like we're not that far away from actually being able to interact with each other in-game.

    Thank you NovaQuark.

While I (at least with my neutral or calm self) think that some replies are or were perhaps questionable in this whole "situation" (beyond just this thread) it seems apparent to me that the, as the saying goes "kid fell into the well".

I understand that some replies or messages to you were perhaps not that nice and that taunts or aggression one may receive can build it up within yourself. Again, some things were perhaps not okay and some may have behaved in a "sensationalist" way while munching popcorn.

But it's not like the base problem came out of nowhere and one can't fully blame "the community". In short, your organization or those advertising it were not without fault in this whole "mess".

For your own sake or interest in getting any long-term footing, I suggest you stop with the cynic or sarcastic responses - it's not winning you any flowers here among some regulars and no matter how "wrong" they could be, it encourages people to pick up arms against you way later if this continues.

You also don't help yourself if you generalize and assume those being vocal against you being "the" community. They are a part of it but sarcastic remarks about the overall community kind of indirectly taunt the others who don't post about you or are just silent. In short, it's potentially counter-productive in the long run, too.

    What to (possibly) do now

If you want to remain somewhat on (or regain) an equal footing in comparison to the others here again I suggest you "man up" and ignore remarks you consider too taunting. Be a bit like a politician, I suppose.

Focus your recruitment efforts in one thread - I see no reason to outsource anything until it becomes a notably different thing, and advertising that you have high positions is no reason to outsource in my book. That can be done so in the main thread as it perfectly relates to the main thread of your organization and your organization itself.

What could be a reason to outsource (= make a new thread) if it still loosely relates to your organization?
It could be an initiative that doesn't relate to recruitment. "We want to plant new gardens in the bombed area, who wants to help?" for example. Another potential reason to make new threads is when you want to advertise individual branches of your organization.

This is more tricky, however, and not advisable unless these can be considered relatively autonomous and different. And to be honest, I wouldn't do it in your shoes at this time as that could also be considered "spam". Thus those things should also remain in the main thread for some time until the game becomes playable and until you have sufficient numbers to allow more autonomous branches. Until then advertising them individually probably doesn't make much sense or doesn't net you much.

    To summarize:

    - Assess whether you want to continue with this idea or organization
    - Less sarcastic remarks / man up / other ways of dealing with criticism
    - Focus organization related recruitment efforts in one thread

Do or don't, the rest is up to you.

    Good luck.

Well, hello, SkippyG. Welcome to the Forums.

This thread here pretty much covers most of the questions starters may have. In case you have questions on the mechanics of the game, I suggest you check this Forum here: The Gameplay Mechanics Assembly.

I won't ask what you want to do in Dual Universe or what your interest is, but regardless of your choices, we Duals discuss general ideas and construct proposals and hypotheses in the Idea Box and The Builder's Corner.

If you are on Discord, I suggest you join Dual Universe Explorers here: https://discord.gg/zzNKKSj . Many new members make a stop by there and it's a great place to chat with the rest of like minded Duals or to make enquiries about the game from the growing player base.

I also suggest you make good use of the Forum's search system. It's quite efficient and you'll more often than not find that someone else has already asked or answered your question. Don't let that stop you from interacting with us, though: we love the new blood.

We look forward to seeing more of you.

Hi there ladies and gentlemen, sorry for the spam of posts here, but as you may know I had a little catch up to do.
If I'm not posting, I am saving the data, ready to be posted! However, as you may notice, my new 'Unique Member' chart line has had some teething issues.
This is because the data I can't exactly save with having my sheets with me, the other data, I can! I'm trying to decide a way around this, but unfortunately it has just been a rather busy and weird time for me! I am trying my hardest to keep this up to data and I am hoping to keep posting daily again, even through Christmas and new years!

As drunk of a posting that may be.

In the terms of actual data though, we've seen a great spike in the now named 'Galactic Commonwealth', formerly 'Alliance Of Free Worlds'. This is good, showing that a simple name buff and member acceptance can really change things.
As for other groups, the growth has been rather steady, making for an easy flowing time.
There is only one day where there was no growth and a negative amount for a total, which is good, meaning growth has been taken from a rather neutral amount to a good healthy amount once again.

    As for some extra stats!
This past month (November), there were 161 new members to organizations (These are not unique! These include people crossing into multiple organizations).

On average, there was 5.3 members joining organizations per day.
The highest average growth goes to Terran Union, with 1.8 members per day.
Most other organizations growth averaged 0.5 members per day to 1.2 members per day.

The forums hit 4,000+ Members on the 3rd, making the community the largest it has been so far.

The forums had an average user join count in November of 17 per day.
The average post count in November was 69 per day!
The total post count for November was 2058.
The total community growth for November was 505 members (On the forums alone).

I am hoping to keep the data completely up to date as from now!
So I hope you guys keep reading and stay as interested in it as I am, this post has over 4,000 views and I really appreciate the people who have said nice things to me, encouraged me, etc!

I think that most people are going to own a multi-purpose (personal) ship, one that has ftl capability, a decent sized cargo hold, some weapons, atmospace flight, etc. (to what balance depends on the player)
It is more common for orgs to have the specialised vessels, like pure combat vessels, carriers, mining barges, cargo haulers, troop transports etc. because they have the resources to field multiple ships at once, and the variety of ships complement each other (a carrier is useless if there is only one pilot). I imagine that BOO (and other orgs with a relaxed structure) will field personal ships instead of structured fleet due to the nature of such orgs.

@Kakakalaa : The 'rookie' is supposed to be 'Senior Officer', pardon me but he's written it himself. If he wants to communicate in the name of his org he must take the responsibility, and if he feels too much like a rookie he can ask in his org for help to write his post... Then, he's not 'non-english speaker' apparently, but it doesn't change a thing, I don't talk fluent Spanish, so I don't argue too much in Spanish in the forums not to do the same mistake of miscommunication. He's done it, and I have legitimately criticized him, that's all. If he feels down because of my overwhelmingly negative comment, it's not my problem. I criticize to help actually, I don't troll, I don't comment for nothing.

He played big. As a rookie I wouldn't have posted like that... As 'senior' (the title actually doesn't bother me a lot, but as he's expressed himself by talking in the name of his empire...).
What I think is pointless is the over shocked reactions. I have a very criticizing reaction and some react to me the same way. It's not like that we step forward. Someone criticize large, if you want to soften the talk, go on, but don't say I 'attack' him like it's nothing. I attack HOW he did perfunctorily, not who he is. I want him to reconsider and edit his post, that's all. I wouldn't be attracted by his offer to join his 'Solar Secure', and I say why. I have nothing against Solar Secure.

ForlornFoe reacted to Lord_Void in Player Prison?
I doubt the developers will want any sort of prison system. They want this game to grow and retain players, and to do that they need people to remain engaged. If you have a player getting locked up then they are going to log out, and that is the last thing the devs want people doing. Even if they could come up with a way to prevent any "abuse" of the imprisonment system (which they can't, there will always be a way to abuse it), it still adds nothing to the game and only detracts from it.

There may be some ways to temporarily trap players, but the developers will very likely make sure there is always a way out. And if somehow someone gets well and truly trapped or imprisoned, you can bet that a GM is going to come running to set them free.

Ever since I stopped playing an mmo a long time ago I went on an MMO hiatus to figure out why I had the urge to quit.  Long story short, I figured it out, so for a good while I have been seeking a new MMO to play, but I was unable to find a good one.  I thought about what theme I wanted, and what kind of gameplay I desired.

I became interested in Elite: Dangerous and have been playing it for a good while but getting my bearings in that game has proven pretty difficult, even when it became easy to get currency.  It wasn't a true mmo either, so it felt more like a tolerable grind.  I liked the space sim, but I wanted to  feel more immersed, so I decided to look at different space-themed mmos.

Eve looked too much to join, different steam games were mostly in early access, and most of those ended up having a game destroying patch.  I saw certain non-mmo games have certain mmo elements I really liked, like player-driven stories and economy, player building placement, etc.  At my core I'm a builder, whether it's small like gadgets or big like buildings or ships, but never found a game that I could really get behind that incorporated all of those ideas.  I also love exploring, seeing the game environments for what they are.

There have been potential games, but like I said, early access on steam, and one game in particular that I felt had everything I wanted had a lot of negative reviews.  This left me disheartened about what I could play...wanted a game that felt real, where I can treat it like reality where I have to be careful and do whatever I can to progress.  Many games didn't feel that way.

Having been shown the kickstarter for dual universe, I took immediate intrigue.  Not only does it seem to have everything I wanted, but the avatar development looks great.  I played entropia universe, and while I liked the possibilities, I disliked how the game felt like gambling.  I liked how there are no leveling up avatars, but just developing skills, but it felt far to grindy to be something worth investing into.  Dual though seems more refined in that area...can't wait to see the details on that.

Overall, I backed dual universe because I am sick and tired of mmos being so mediocre...i'm basically backed against the MOBA wall right now, along with Elite, so if dual becomes the game I sincerely desired, I can finally be properly entertained...

One last thing...I also backed the game Eco because of how micromanaging it is...basically that is a non-mmo game where every little action could have consequences and destroy the world you made.  I like that pressure.  Dual seems to have that as well.  I have high hopes, but from my experiences, I will keep expectations at bay.

Hopefully those who I meet here on the forums and in the game can be great game friends.  Let's immerse.

I am a HUGE fan of deep, rich crafting systems and I really hope that DU has something like that. Gathering simple materials to make simple tools with which to gather and process more advanced materials...yadda yadda...et cetera et cetera. Not many have the patience for it, but I find it enjoyable.

Then again, I am also the sort of person who rather enjoys the simple mechanic of managing a garden and cooking. I've never been much for combat. I can do it if I have to, I'm just not very good at it.  At heart, I'm an explorer and a crafter. That's what I enjoy. That's what I try to stick to.

I think that'll do for an initial intro. I look forward to working with you all to make this the best game possible!

ForlornFoe reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Novawrimo Contest 2016: Rules to participate
What is Novawrimo?   Novawrimo is a contest inspired from "Nanowrimo" (National Novel Writing Month, in short) that happens during the month of November (from the 1st November to the 30th of November). The goal of NanoWrimo is to write a 50,000 word story in 30 days. http://nanowrimo.org/   Novawrimo is a contest slightly different: - It's not tied to the month of November (meaning there might be more than one contest of this kind in a year). - To be accessible to a broader range of participants, the minimum size of the text is lowered to 5,000 words (which is already a significant). The ideal would between 5,000 and 10,000 words. But if you are really inspired, There is no real hard limit.      The rules:   - The current Novawrimo contest starts today, Tuesday, the 15th of November, at 9.30 PM PST Hour. - It will end Thursday, the 15th of December, at 9.30 PM PST Hour.  - The story should be compatible with what is known from the Dual Universe backstory so far. For reference: The Official Dual Universe Lore Bible The short story written by Alain Damasio The Backstory Page of the official website (Should you spot an inconsistency between the different sources, consider always the Official Lore Bible as the reference) - The story must happen between 2436 and 12477. (one century prior to the Arkship launch from Earth and before the Arkship "Novark" lands on Alioth) - No alien creature should be involved. - Physical violence should be limited (No gore or similar things).  - Verbal violence and cursing is tolerated but must stay limited. - Explicit sexual content isn't allowed. - Hate speeches toward specific people, ethnic group, or religion from the real life isn't allowed. - You must submit your text under the form of a PDF file and you must attach it to a dedicated topic (with the tag [Novawrimo] in the title) you created in the "Novaquark Archives" forum section. The PDF file must not exceed 500 ko in size. - By submitting a fan fiction with the tag [Novawrimo] in the topic title, the poster will explicitly cede author rights to Novaquark. While these texts won't be sold under any form, they might be used (fully or partially) as promotional materials in marketing campaign for the game Dual Universe. For more information on this part, read the "Terms of Use" PDF file attached to this topic.   Rules Update (17/11/2016):
    - The fan fiction submitted must be written in English.
    -  A non-native English writer can seek help from a native English speaker to polish the text in English. - The native English speaker must be aware that it can help only on a volunteer basis: he won't be eligible for any reward. - If a non-native English writer seek help from a native English speaker, he must submit the complete text before proofreading. Once his text is proofread, he will have to keep both pre-proofread and post-proofread versions of the text available. - On a similar topic, we prefer to precise that if several participants write a text together, only the one submitting the text on the forum will be eligible, as there will be only one prize per text.   Special Thanks to Yamamushi:   As the one who helped us to shape this event and helped on the rewards side of the contest, we thank him deeply for his involvement! As he plans to participate to the contest as well, in order to avoid any conflict of interest, he agreed for not being eligible for any reward.     The rewards:   1st Prize:  - 1 Digital Gold Founder Pack - 1 key for Osiris: New Dawn - 1 key for Space Engineers - 1 key for Empyrion   2nd Prize: - 1 Digital Silver Pack - 1 key for Space Engineers - 1 key for Empyrion   3rd Prize: - 1 Bronze Pack  - 1 Closed Beta Key - 1 key for Empyrion   Community Prize: - Unique in-game title: "Famous Writer"     How the winners will be selected:   - For the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prizes, the winners will be selected by the Novaquark team. - For the Community Prize, the community members will vote for their favorite fan fiction.     If you have any question, just let us know! Good luck everyone!   Best regards, The Novaquark Team. Terms-of-Use-DU-Forum.pdf
