Look people,  before I get attacked for being a care bear,  let me give my ideas that I would like to see in the game...the original intention were 6 pillars:exploration,  building,  economy,  rpg, pvp combat,  and social.  Each was supposed to be equal. Right now they have building,  economy (although I am finding that lacking on some areas), and pvp. Social should come at release though. So far it feels like the economy and building is only for supporting pvp.  Maybe that's because they are focusing on pvp right now. What attracted me to the game back then, however, was building, exploration  and rpg.  To me, rpg is more than pirates and prey. With the lack of any evidence that the other pillars will receive any attention,  the statements that there probably won't be any npcs at release and the game tentatively scheduled to be released next year, I am questioning if the game will be for me.

I think there would be a way for pvpers to coexist with rpgers.  Maybe establishing a 3 part universe where the outer parts are lawless, the safe zone on the inside and a large section in-between be limited pvp. Maybe have it patrolled by boss level enforcers or something. Set up a bountyhunter system so if someone was killed without returning fire they could contribute to a bounty to be place on the shooters head. The price, in comparison to the other pirates would establish a notoriety system which would determine how much information is given about that pirate, ie weapons of their favored ship for the higher leveled. or location. Next put a quality on the ore. The higher the quality,  the better the element made. IE a rail gun with a higher damage or better accuracy.   Then put the better quality in the lawless areas. This would allow rpgers to develop their elements but they wouldn't be as good as those who took the risk. As well, the higher quality ore could justify a higher asking price. I think quality shouldn't be considered for blueprints so someone could possibly make a better ship than the creator intended by collecting higher quality voxels and elements. Last change i would make to pvp is set up outposts to control the disputed areas. Here the controlling corporations could restrict or loosen the limits of the pvp in their sphere of influence but opposing corporations could attact and gain control of the outpost. There could be a bonus to talents associated with the outposts as well.  This would create a reason for massive space battles and alliances besides the asteroids.

On the exploration side, I think it would be a blast if the developers allowed some of the players to be quest creators. So many are good story tellers that giving the an outlet in the game, such as exploring a lost civilization on Jago, would be a fun experience.

I think you are missing some major points here. NQ FINALLY putting some more focus on the combat side of the game is also good for players with focuses similar too yourself. Combat is not just needed to be a economy stimulus but it is also the foundation mechanics for any possible PVE combat in the future.

Myself personally does not like the way asteroids has been implemented at all. A set area in space (a belt) with periodic generation would of made this game far more better and the current yields per T4 + 5 is borderline stupid and economy breaking since this is not finite resources. This we can agree on but being forced to pvp? No one is forcing anyone to do anything.

You say you want resources at a casual pace, have you seen what’s in the 0.27 release?

With that said the only resources that may well be exclusive to contested zones is T4 / 5 come release however since PVE focused players who stay in the safe zone with 0 losses too assets will be able too still accumulate wealth. purchases for these higher tier resources could be made by bartering with players who decide to take these risks and losses giving play-styles a balance to wealth and assets.

  2. Maybe a clean up on how the rules are based on the docking changes coming is needed.

Walking on and exploring a parked ship anywhere is definitely not an exploit it’s part of the game.

Parking characters on a ship in the safe-zone logged off or on with the intent of using the lock player tool on that character to track a ship is an exploit. This will soon be impossible to anyone without RDMS rights to be a passenger.

Boarding a ship already in the pvp zone is not an exploit and fair game. Different rules apply here yarrr. The anti stowaway RDMS in the docking patch should / will be disabled as soon as a ship is in pvp space.

Things definitely missing from this gameplay is the docking patch, AVA, HARPOONS! / tractor beam type elements and some form of low accuracy or delayed update time long range tracking of ships in deep space. NQ needs to get this stuff in for everything to finally make sense.

  3. Schematics was never a bad idea, just the time and way they was implemented was TERRIBLE. However now that the backlash has come and gone and dust is settling with the missions and other economy injectors finally coming in to play schematics are finally making sense. My only change would be to have schematic injection happen through a more variety of ways and different exclusivity rather than just checking them on market bots.

Exotic sheild schems only found on wrecks in pvp space? or RNG chance from doing a certain alphelia mission? etc etc

A ship carrying 20 packages needs to be able to get nearer 40KT to 30km, which takes some engines, and it takes some stopping.  It will also need an AGG.  All of this does make these ships targets, according to the OP 90% of people running missions die lol. In all seriousness, there are plenty of stories of pirate getting a lot more action since this patch. I do 100% agree that the parcels need some value for pirates and this should be a priority, alongside some sort to randomisation of mission to limit how many can be taken.

Took me all of 2 hours to Boost a ship to 313KT cargo capacity with 2g’s. Also AGG is too slow and not needed at all. Now if I just put in 5% evasive effort the pirates have too put in 115% more effort to find and catch. The 115% more effort is not really worth it and would mainly be out of pure boredom. The only true cost to mega-hauling is the fuel but when the rewards are that high no body cares.

Firstly I think we should calm down about the inflation, missions have just come out and a lot of people will be trying them, some will continue with them, plenty will go back to mining as there source of income.  Lets see what happens.

As for the 'exploiting' for every package there is an increased risk, not only in the collateral but in the size of ship you need to carry all those packages.  If players are carrying 50 packs, they are doing it in a VERY large and expensive ship (or they have an actual exploit to move it).   I do though agree that a simple fix of randomising the mission, and having them disappear after a number of times (opening further missions elsewhere) is both a simple solution and much better gameplay.

Yes there is a risk but let’s be honest the main reason to hunt these super whales will just be out of sheer Boredom and could even be called griefing.

Why would I put in time to hunt when the only reward is a bunch of heavy packages I can’t do anything with and a bunch of elements with dynamic properties that spam my inventory and if I want to try and use I have to load up 1 by 1 and just give me a tedious building chore. NQ really needs to do something about this side of the game because it’s always an afterthought resulting in alienating a whole player base.

  6. Will the schematics for the new pvp elements be injected in to the game with more thought such as discovered in pvp zone wrecks or just put on market bots like everything else?

Other than asteroid mining will there be alternative conflict drivers added? NQ missed an easy win opportunity for this by not making captured mission packages profitable.

Will voxel be double sided in this first wave of “balances”?

When will NQ address Warp being a skip pvp free card in crossing contested zones?

Nah, mate... there is this game which is a fun distraction from daily stress and then there are adults who post messages to this forum while still in character.

Like guys who take their paintballing too seriously and dress up in combat gear when they go down the pub.

There was me thinking RPG was part of the game. Since the game is still missing a “why” pvp there is nothing wrong with a bit of RP to drum up interest.

If anyone is wondering what I mean by the “Why” I’m just gonna keep hammering this quote.

”People don’t want to pvp just for fun, they want it to be a fun way to progress”

This absolutely not fair. The advantage they get is absolutely ridiculous. at least before if you have 20 accounts, all you could do is queue more talents. You can't mine on 20 accounts so that never bothered me. But now....  I'm rather ticked off.

Too be fair I see where you are coming from, it is possible to make a billion quanta with a single ship run so if people start copying the techniques you are going to see a new meta of quanta generating along with crazy inflation. Ore bot sales etc does not even come close to these methods

Every scene in this Video is with normal speed and wiht low FPS your Ships isnt really moving that fast like it should.
So this is more or less the Problem you guys had.

but if you didnt think so, what do you mean causes your problems?

It’s down up to NQ to go in to specific’s but the base of it is one of the AC ships caused our clients to go into endless loops to the point that even one of our gunners who was running a work rig with 64 Xeon, 256 gb ram got maxed out on cpu and ram and client was still asking for more while locking up the computer / screen.

As I said, Thank you for the testing work put in because it does highlight a damage download issue, but it’s not the only issue that needs attention so don’t make assumptions.

At this time, I regretfully have to leave the CH role and the community in itself for an indeterminate period of time. Nothing that NQ has done, nothing none of you have done. As a matter of fact, there will be the folks out there who will ask... "Who the hell is this guy?". But for those who do know me and those who could care less than to know me... I bid you a fond farewell for now. Real life issues concerning one of my siblings is demanding about all of the mental bandwidth I can muster. Times like this have a compounded effect on me for other reasons... and cause me to be less than sociable by means of automatic defensive nature. Presently... I am real short with folks. I do not wish to project that upon others and this will allow me to destress a little more.

Lot of good people, lot of good memories... a few pricks, but hey, that is how it is globally. Bless you all, be safe, treat the volunteers with love and realize NQ is working to make the game great. Maybe there will be a Rho reboot in the future.

    Farewell, for now...

    ~Rhotan~

Take care mate, hope everything works out ok for you IRL.

  11. To my understanding types of voxel does not assist with high speed burns and does not assist with impact damage calculations.

however impact damage calculation works like an invisible expanding sphere hurting any elements it catches starting at the point of impact. Only element that directly effects the sphere growth calculation is landing gears (if they are the point of origin).

What makes me wonder and worth testing is burn damage may work the same way. If you have a large distance from the front cross section Voxel and your elements (including front adjusters) there is a chance you could do burn damage but have your elements further away allowing you to push that tiny bit harder.

Any kind of gate in my mind should be a natural outcome of gameplay; what I mean by this is we aren't thinking about artificial limitations but instead thinking about the gameplay loop and how to make it engaging and fun - even thought provoking - which should naturally provide a limit to what players want to manage regarding industry.

If a player has the chance to be known as the best screw maker for engines the galaxy has ever known they will choose that over being a jack of all trades master of none I would say; the day I can specialise in all manner of screws will be the day DUfix is born.

Exactly, basic off the shelf elements should not be hard gated at all, that is one of the biggest flaws with industry. Industry progression should be in quality of items produced. Making manufacturing open to everyone but if you are a “best in slot” chaser then gonna have to spend that quanta buying from the manufacturers who have invested time and talents in their field of play or invest yourself.

I'm wondering what people think of this? Would having to repair factory bits be a fun thing? or just feel grindy?

That is the exactly opposite to what industry needs. I said it once I’ll say it again, stop thinking about how to gate industry because that is complete rubbish. Think about ways players could manage to buff their industry and quality of items they produce. Either it be through talents or having their industry static part of a city project, or both.

Gating industry from producing basic products has not (0.23) nor will ever work.

  14. Deep space black markets? I really like this idea ?  Its a basic concept that could lead to many other avenues. Black markets do not have to show on map till discovered. If NQ ever get wise enough to make the cargo on Aphelia hauling missions loot-able the pirates could try and run their ill gotten gains to sell the unique cargo to these black market bots. Additionally certain new schematics Rare shield emitter L can only be found in very limited quantities at the same deep space market.

  15. This will lead to a Post release AVA problem but thats nothing more than disabling the repulse in contested territories.

Not tested yet but something is missing here. If someone unauthorised approches in a shuttle, there should be a quick fire request 1 time authorisation to dock and the parent owner gets to accept or reject. Anyone interested in Taxi services, giving newbies rides etc etc should not have to mess about with RDMS pages every time, thats mind numbing.

  16. If you remove the nebula you must make sure all other lighting is on point and directional head lights actually work like head lights at distance. The Nebula makes bad lighting far more forgiving.

If you want to know what landing on the dark side of a moon / planet is like without the Nebula, approach the planet from the opposite side of the sun, come in at a nice low steady speed, deploy your landing gear, turn off your monitor.

    1. most PvP battles end in a retreat as fuel, scrap and ammo requirements are too high for any outcome to happen

More like ships have a bit too much durability and there are no penetration mechanics so killing a ship is like peeling an ?

    1. players can just enter third person under layers and layers of voxels, which means that it is hard to kill players in most PvP ships. Making seats more like the currently useless cockpit would make more sense.

    AVA When?

    1. The investment to get an L core PvP ship is too low, L cores are supposed to be the large org battleships which need a large investment to build and run, but are too easy to get atm. (XLs should be the equivalent to Titans, if not more

L core PVP ships are not cheap believe me. However if new ore gaining methods come this may ring true.

    1. players can just warp out of danger

Players can obtain any grade resources and use warp to completely skip danger..

13: PvP exploits, server sync issues and bugs even bad pvp talents

  18. I’m trying to understand how people will be forced to go to pvp zone? Safe zone triangle has up too T3 resources. If you don’t want to take the risk of going for the T4 / T5 resources then buy them off someone who is? I thought a major part of playing the PVE focused side of DU is the economy?
