Haunty got a reaction from OrionSteed in NQ YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT SHIPS REALLY!
I don't think it should be easy or cheap to haul 10 L containers full of ore though. Just being able to carry 3-5x your ship's empty weight is pretty functional, which is easily done with "pretty" designs.

Some larger elements could be useful, like L wings/ailerons, maybe XL brakes. But high Gs are not necessary for hauling. I only use one L airbrake and 2 L space brake on my medium hauler and I carry up to 1.5 kt with it. No need to add more mass in extra elements.

I think PvP could use some speed tanking similar to Eve. NQ also mentioned the possibility of shields in the future. And BOO's flagship is pretty and functional in PvP.

I wouldn't say DU goes for realism at all for technical and gameplay reasons. The solar system and planet scale are shrunk way down, planets don't rotate or orbit the star, there is no physical star, and the lighting is not realistic.

Markets by the Extraction Cartel has added several new features as well as expanded the sampling of orders for a more accurate reflection of the Pure and Ore markets.

At the moment, over 90% of the items have a base price calculation. This calculation uses the current pure prices to determine the cost of a single unit of each item without taking skills into account effectively setting a guideline Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. The future state of this will include skills, machine costs, and schematic costs to get to a better MSRP number.
You will also find a baseline component analysis and calculation on the pure inputs needed to create an item.

    Upcoming features
Sampling and analysis of other key trade goods (like warp cells) Commentary Ability to factor in skills to the prices Schematic Amortization calculations Visual representation of the markets Trade Routes

Haunty reacted to Burble in Is this supposed to be fun - First Ship to build
No, just no. We really should stop spreading this lie. It is not eliminated at all, it is just a much longer and more rewarding game. Anyone can have a factory that makes a few specialized parts within a week. The only difference is that now not everyone can build everything in the game right away. Which is vital if any kind of market economy that make sense is to exist.

Ha, yea, they say do what you love and you'll work every damn' day of your life, right!? or is that how the saying usually goes?

But for real, that's why I'm here and playing Dual Universe.. to be part of building a whole new world... it looks like a lot of people on here are forgetting that this world will ultimately be built by us, and not Novaquark... the fun part to me right now is seeing such a large, blank canvas of a digital frontier that all of us creators are going to vie to direct. I totally understand how this version of the game isn't fun for most types of gamers compared to so many other fast-paced, ever-rewarding games out there..  but DU is undoubtedly going to get cooler and cooler every day from people in the community who just love creating... after enough time, we'll all figure out better and better ways to create objectives and different forms of gameplay for each other, but everyone is going to have to give NQ time... whether you give them money, if you're not that interested in being part of the creation-process, is up to you

    Vertical boosters
    - Work without atmosphere (on moons)
    - Have more thrust for their size
    - Use space fuel
    - Comes in 4 sizes (xs size)

    Hovers
    - Only work in atmo
    - Uses atmo fuel which is cheaper, no need for space fuel tanks
    - Weigh less compared to vertical boosters
    - 3 sizes (no xs)

That's all it is, Bobbie! You nailed it.  Our 'style' is just... normal, empathetic conversation. (Unless we're dishing out super formal information, like a warning or big announcement.)

That's certainly not how we view it, I can guarantee you that. The fans who post here on the forums are incredibly insightful.

Each of DUs social (community) spaces has their own little ecosystem. There's something for every player personality, and that's valuable to us:
Forum posters tend to be more technically minded and informed about industry practices, enjoy writing long-form/thoughtful feedback pieces and more often than not have been around since the beginning of the project. The overall vibe I get is similar to walking into a library - it's a quieter, more studious atmosphere. Forums are an amazing place to house information long-term, and I personally really enjoy them. (A large part of my personal enjoyment comes from how well forums showcase people's personalities! I think it's one of the better places to bond and have meaningful conversations.) Discord is excellent for allowing NQ to take a quick community "temperature" check! If we want to see how any one thing is affecting fans in-the-moment, Discord is a great place to look to make a fast assessment. (The next step after that is to come here and see that "temperature" elaborated upon.) Discord is also great for general fun/joking around, and for spreading key information rapidly. Reddit falls somewhere in between the forums and Discord. It's a widely popular, easily accessible platform that tends to attract newer players, which provides NQ with the opportunity to better understand the new player journey. It has its own chat feature and also allows for long and thoughtful posts, though it seems to be used mostly to showcase builds/ask general questions. The demographic that posts to Reddit skews a bit younger and tends to have their fingers in more than one gaming pie, which enables us to keep tabs on what else might be grabbing fans' attention in the gaming world. I personally view platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter & Youtube as belonging to Marketing first and foremost. Those are spaces where NQ can promote DU, not necessarily where we as a community team might go to source important feedback. (Occasionally we'll get the odd constructive Youtube comment, but that's fairly rare.) So as you can see, every space provides NQ with something meaningful. We pull insights from each space to compare, contrast and ultimately develop a well rounded picture of how our players think and feel. They're all important to us for different reasons. No one space is better than another - just different!

Now to address the title of this thread: "Will this be another Cyberpunk 2077 disaster?" The short answer is "in all likelihood, no. Thank goodness."

You can make some loose comparisons I'm sure, but DU and Cyberpunk (and the companies that created them) are very different beasts. If you're interested, I encourage you guys to check out an in-depth article I read earlier about the Cyberpunk situation: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/19/style/cyberpunk-2077-video-game-disaster.html

NQ has certainly encountered some growing pains (that's no secret!), but we're working through them. Even in the short time I've been here, I have seen growth! ❤️ Take for instance the following is official communication from us:

This is in direct response to a large majority who felt we did "too much too soon" with 0.23. We agree! We hear you, we see you, we are going to try something different next time.

This is JC saying that, while we tried our very best, in terms of testing new features we fell short this time. We will and are making improvements on this front, which hopefully means 0.24 will be a vastly improved experience for all.

(Those quotes were taken directly from this post, for those who are curious to read more.)

Currently I am making quanta by picking up schematics and transporting them to places where they are unavailable and selling them.
I have just started an org (partly because I want the cores) to provide emergency services.  Repair, refuel, core delivery, parts deliver, taxi, boosting services etc.
Just have to be a bit creative.  Every time you run into a problem in this game it is a potential job.  For example today, I need more ships but dont have enough cores.  I have decided to decommission my space station over Ion.  But, I need to get my ships back and I'm not sure how I can do it.  Now if somebody was offering a service to either drop me out there or better still, fly my ships back for me.  I'd pay.
If you look at DanelSHE's post above (might be a few above).  There is somebody basically asking for a service.  That player does not want to be going place to place getting schematics, machines etc.  Market pick up service right there.
Actually, just to prove a point.  I paid for a taxi 2 days ago.  Picked me up from my space station over Alioth and dropped me on Madis.  400,000 quanta.

I find it odd to suggest that someone might be horrible at doing something that literally no one else has done, and that you have literally no idea how to do yourself.

Horrible compared to what?  Who's doing it better?

NQ could have just waited another ten years for technology to catch up to the point that they could make a game like this, with AAA graphics and framerate.

But personally i'm glad i don't have to wait.

It would be if the hauler can mount guns and shoot back, but that is not feasible right now because an xs ship can just stay out of hauler's range while shooting it. The pvp capability of a ship should depend more on how many crew it has to man guns, not core size limits to engagement range. Smaller ships would still have advantage of escaping out of range, and small fast ships should probably be harder to hit with larger guns at close range.

I question the need for it myself. In Alpha it may have made sense, but I think a public test server is all that is needed now. Maybe NQ wants it to be something like the CSM for Eve eventually, but in that case it should be reformed.

All those statements are allmost exact same statements i gave to the german discod chat and some communitys who know me well...

A lot of people were upset about the 0.23 and named it as the "Downfall" of DU.
Cooperation over creativity is not theyr cup of cake and they havnt yet appreciated the possibilitys of a singleshard-server.

Many others see this as a major step towards the goal on what DU should be like.
DU as a playerdriven virtual civilization needs to have most of the challenges not be reachable without others.

What we got with 0.23 is not yet what has been needed to force a kickstart to this virtual civilization, but its a good Start.
And i know some who see DU still as a game like many others and not as an oppurtunity to have something completely different.
Something thats gonna less longer than any other game or hype.
Something that evolves with every step towards its goal, but where the devs have allways the goal in mind.
Build us the biggest virtual singleshard civilization game... Not just another Sandbox, but a virtual World.

Thank you NQ, that you allways keep course towards that goal.
Sometimes with learning or experience curves and sometimes ways some dont understand.
But heavyly focussed towards the goal.
If you ask me... i guess i undstood what the game can be.
I see the Vision behind it.

And even if im wrong i wouldnt let this project down.
You DU an awesome job NQ

    Just DU it

**Fixing the "Roll of death" aka "Stuck Adjustor" bug in DU**
Since almost forever there is a bug in the default autoconfigure scripts that causes adjustors to behave like they are "stuck". This leads to a lot of crashes. So here is the fix.
Open the LUA Editor of your control unit (hoverseat, commandchair, remote control, whatever)
    click on "system"
In here we have to change 6 different "actions" for the 3 axis. they are the "ActionStop" actions for the following keys:
    -left
    -right
    -forward
    -backward
    -yawleft
    -yawright
Each of these actions is trying to change one specific variable by in/decreasing it.
you have to basically overwrite the single line and assign the value 0 to that variable
Here is the example for ActioStop(Forward):
    Original Line: pitchInput = pitchInput + 1
    change tis line to: pitchInput=0
now do that kind of change for all the above mentioned actions (each axis will have a different variable name)
then hit "apply" and enjoy the fixed bug, where your adjusters will not get stuck again.
If you want, you can create your own autoconfigure script with these changes (copy the default\**config file to the custom\ directory and do the changes in there
