Too much abuse with the current organizational system, this change is necessary. Unfortunately the organizational system is also to be reviewed. It is inconceivable that we cannot manage our assets like a state to protect against betrayal and player turnover ...

But do you have big ambition? It's all about using resources that match your ambitions.

Do you need thousands of cores? Buy additional accounts!

Don't want to buy a secondary? Lower your ambitions.

NQ naïvely implemented geometric costs for tiles in a way that took me all of about 10 seconds to work around... The stupid thing is not that NQ were naïve but that it took them this long to close a glaring, and by that I mean flashlight to the face kind of glaring, loophole.

The cynic in me is saying that they waited this long so that large orgs would be forced to consider forking out for extra ALTs to keep their orgs in their own hands rather than offloading massive tracts of land and cores to simple org members they can no longer control.

Are you allowed on the DU forums if you are not a cynic?
Also, one shouldn't really call org members simple - just saying ?

I tend to go with the simplest explanation - largely because most corporations are stupid as a collective, even if they have smart people. You may, though, be right but we will likely never know. It will be interesting to see how many hexes free up after this (if any).

Yeah, I understand where you’re coming from but that would require NQ to add another hidden attribute (volatility/explosivity) to each item which, given 400 odd elements, (I pulled that number from my arse, I have no idea how many elements this game has) would probably take them about 1200 days to complete and that’s before the single high-school, work-experience intern who is apparently responsible for all of NQ’s code this past year, is whipped into action to work on the logic.

    poor kid. ?

also the fact that voxels don’t in any way protect the ship is just plain silly considering that collisions are a core mechanic in any space game, it’s surprising how little effort has been put into developing it.

I know that comparing a game to real life is a bit pointless, but remember the concord that was destroyed leading to a no survivor crash?  All that happened was that the concord's landing gear  hit a piece of a debris from a previous plane that had apparently been damaged on landing.. The piece of debris punctured a tire and as the plane sped up, a part of the tire flicked up into the engine cowling, penetrating it and caused catastrophic and complete engine failure and conflagration and within a few seconds half of the plane was burning... The plane crashed seconds later, leading to the death of all 109 souls on board.

Or what about the Columbia shuttle disaster?   As the shuttle is taking off, a fragment of insulation towards the front of the main external tank breaks off and strikes the leading edge of one of the wings.
The damage went unnoticed in ascent but caused the wing to disintegrate on return descent.

I'm only saying this becuase chain reactions leading from minor, seemingly inconsequential damage (a popped tire on a vehicle that has a dozen tires,  I peice of foam of all materials causing fatal damage can indeed happen.

As I said, though, the damage system is broken.... but for different reasons.

    Might be good, don't know.
But what I DO know is that I really don't like the voice of that woman ... she sounds like those clerks (in USA) who work at some store and always put an ARTIFICIAL SMILE and talk to you with a squeaky "sweet" voice but actually hate their job and are dead inside. Or like those hired female voiceover people for some Techno Channels on YouTube when you just FEEL that she absolutely has no idea about the subject matter and is just reading a script.
This one here also sounds as if she is smiling the whole time while explaining to us how to obliterate each other with capital ships and fighters, lol.

I’m all for third person camera elements placed on the outside of the ship that relay information inside.

And As the elements are damaged, you lose 3rd person visibility externally.

for example guns /radars could still come with cameras which could be used in lieu of free 3rd person camera. You could choose any such camera equipped system to be your external vantage point from a list of ship elements.

Free 3rd person camera view should be for cinematic use only, recording fights and making trailers etc, it should lose all the cockpit/LUA access.

I guess the Titanic also wasn't build to re-enter atmosphere or travel space at 30000kph. And the iceberg doesn't really compare to a one voxel pillar. So damage? Yeah, utter annahilation of the whole ship not really. In your comparison, the Titanic sank it wasn't squashed.

You don’t actually need scrap to turn an element from red to yellow.

you can use scrap if you want, but the first HP is actually free if you select an empty scrap slot.

When you run out of scrap you can still fix an element to 1 hp so long as you have at least one scrap type (even if it’s greeted out and empty) in your scraps shortcuts list on the right.

now, you’ll be a smoking mess if all your elements are at 1hp and you likely won’t be able to fly the ship in first person but at least you can operate your ship to some extent.

    Just thought you should know.

Left right up down is good for exact placement. I use it when designing vehicles to have left and right symmetrical because you can’t copy and paste or reflect elements for some absolutely braindead reason that only the devs know.

but that has nothing to do with a ui where the character’s own hand and tool are blocking the workspace: that is just piss-poor design.
Glowing animation “because they can” rather than stop to ask themselves if they should is a noob designer mistake.

same with glass that blocks half the light coming in due to hideously overenthusiastic shader coding.  windows literally have one main job: to let you see through walls. So if you can’t, that’s maximal FAIL.

    Sometimes less is more.

I too thought that you could repair for free but this bug is not what you think. The bug that you are referencing actually consumes the scrap that is not selected. Jot down the amount of scrap you have and switch to a type you don't have. After you repair with the type you don't have, look back at the type you do have and see that it was consumed.

By that logic every single aspect in the game could be taken advantage of that way. By punishing that one playstyle you are punishing larger orgs who don't see it as abusive. Another way to combat him making that much in one run is to literally camp him and blow him out of the sky so he wastes 2 hours of logging in.

"Gee, the dodgy field effects around the hand tool really need dialing up to 11"?

Do the DU coders have ANY IDEA how difficult it is to precision-place things with the tool and that arred lighting effect taking up over half of the width of the screen and not only encroaching upon but actually obscuring the workspace?
    Do they even care?

Here's me trying to precision-place a bunch of L glass... it's a fckn nightmare.. I think I prefer mining at this point.

If they have 20 accounts, it means they bought 4 Alpha or Beta accounts to get the 5 extra beta access keys. That's at least $240 they paid towards funding a game that is likely to go titsup at any moment.

moreover, they have to log into each of those accounts at least twice to do the missions... that's anywhere up to 3 minutes per account to log out and back in... twice...
lets call it 3 minutes per relog... 40 times... that's 120 minutes of sheer boredom plus travel time.  If they are willing to "play" that way then they will be the type of people that will tend to get rich anyway...

They do need to address infinitely regressed sub-orgs that have no actual members other than the parent org, but why can’t they just allow a type of org that has no superlegate?

Then allow the org creators to choose initial voting mechanisms and (on creation) rules on what legates can and can’t do without voting.
even allow temporary, time limited powers to certain legates, for example.

Make rules like: access to wallet requires at least 3 to agree, or maximum daily wallet use limits etc.

and also rules for org owned assets: containers that require two or more legates present to open.

Or cores: deployment of org cores requires another legate to agree, etc.
build rights need to be agreed by vote etc.

that way alliances can still form.

forcing a superlegate is somewhat dystopian.

after all, players are limited to 5 orgs anyway.

No. These things should be options that the Super Legate chooses (or not). There should be a settings panel or something under Organization Management, with a searchable log.
