Just want to remind to everyone that any game's value is an entertainment you have while you play the game. You did something - you got entertained, you achieved something - you entertained. Wipe does not change that entertainment gain.

been here since beta release got this to loose:

and I am not going to stop playing DU even if they wipe everything, because I do not see why the game will not keep me entertained.

It's good to finally hear your guys' thoughts after such a long wait. Having read everything I'm starting to lean back in the direction of a full wipe. Yes, I fully expect this to disappoint the more creative types that have put in mountains of time and effort to get things to where they are now. More than a fair amount of people will likely leave over this and I would not blame them. This will allow new players to come in and we'll finally be in a somewhat acceptable state of permeance (I'm still surprised NQ hasn't taken to doing shorter reverts of the server in the event of game breaking bugs and abuses) where we can carry on without this fear looming under the bed.

The only real surprise with this, the idea of removing schematics. Is it really that unpopular? We've gotten over that phase and now we're thinking of undoing it? I'm baffled.

True, but if NQ decides to make shields only go to their current Core size, that would automatically make L cores tankier, with LOW development. its the same thing they did to guns.  That right there would give L cores a leg up in Alien core defense.  Where the objective isnt to kill everyone, its to "hold the grid and win".  Just saying that could happen quick, if NQ so choose to. Not saying they will but it could happen easy and fast if they wanted.

Exactly.  But what it boils down to is what gameplay NQ chooses. Maybe there is better ways, but would take longer to develop I can't say for sure as we all speculate. But the reality is most people seem to want new gameplay options as to how bigger and smaller ships perform, thus creating "roles" for ships in pvp and hauling. Options are what make games like this fun, where many ships/and ship builds can Excell in one area but maybe are bad in others. It's not fun when 1 or 2 types of ships can "do it all". Now sure we can debate how NQ chooses to implement it i.e these new speed changes, but the reality is it seems NQ is on a tight budget and a rush to release and make a final market push to make their game viable and sustainable and profitable.  We shall see if their effort is enough soon.

Is it supposed to be player-made content or NQ-made content? Why won't you give us the tools to build cool things? Why another NQ-made market? You're killing player markets instead of supporting them.

Maybe you are one of the few that likes these small cross-section M cores ships to stomp everything and everyone but me, not the only one advocating for a change. The fact is we miss multicrew ships. Also, fact is the current meta makes ship look like the Dogshit you always bring up. That Weapons are ridiculous large doesn't help it.

    Thank you very much.
With this change, the Patch will be a small, but real improvement instead of a downgrade for our org.

But a few things we really need when the patch comes:
folders for the construct list on the map (so you can finally organize the constructs, will be increasing map-performance, if the construct list of a folder is only loaded when the folder is opened) a counter for your own personal constructs (so you can see how close you are to the limit) a counter for the org constructs (can be only seen by legates/superlegates) constructs are not abandoned when the limit is not high enough. You just can't place new ones (otherwise many constructs will be abandoned long before the players will have leveled the skills for that)

As a ship builder, I like to have examples of my ships next to the BP dispenser  so that a potential customer  can examine  the ship. As a solo player with no alts, this change will make that impossible.

    Hey,
so first things first, I'm gonna introduce myself.
I'm Andreas from Germany and a Sci-Fi and space-fan since my early childhood. Reading lots of books in the genre, like Perry Rhodan, much from the Battletech series (aka Mechwarrior lore), as well as more "realistic" authors like Stephen Baxter I was always fascinated about the endless space and stories that have been told. Ofc this implies that I am also very interested in space related theories and science, if there comes a documentary to TV you can be almost certain, that I already know about the facts they might be presenting.

On the other hand, I am also (like probably most of us) a dedicated gamer. I played a lot of games, from  FPS games, to strategy, to Moba, to RPG, also played a few MMOs like WoW, Age of Conan, SW The Old Republic and a bit of  EVE Online.
How ever, I often return to the space genre in particular. So my huge interest in space games revolved in a vision for my perfect space game. Since I was really deep into the Battletech Series, I dreamed of a game, where I can do everything in space. From trading, to colonizing, having the option to do politics, down the line for piracy, conquering etc. In the years since I have this vision of a game (that's now for more then 15 years) I played a lot of space games.
Early days for me were games like Freelancer, the X-Series, some Star Trek games as well as star wars games (most credits here to Rogue Squadron I'd say). The closest back in the days towards my vision was probably the X-Series, where I started to play X2 and X3, in which you could manage fleets, stations etc, how ever, it was limited (even though for the time it was a revolutionary space sandbox simulation). Later on, there were other games that got my interest. The most famous probably Star Citizen, where I also pledged (and not too few), as well as Elite Dangerous. I really like the physics and optics, as well as the opportunity to be in a 1-1 scale milky way, also beeing able to visit stars I already found fascinating for years in my interest in astronomy (you remember, the space nerd). The physical accuracy up-to-date is very impressive on that side. Star Citizen is very ambitious as well, how ever, I don't see to the date that this game will ever be finished tbf.

How ever, now I must say I found this game, Dual Universe, yesterday. I have no idea, how I missed it for that long, but big shout out to ObsidianAnt from youtube, who made a vid about upcoming games in the space genre that also included Dual Universe. That's how I got finally aware of this project. And I must say, what I found out in the last day about the ambitions and ideas behind it, seems to be the closest to my vision that I ever dreamed of so far.

So now ofc it was a no-brainer, that I basically pledged immediately.
So already thanks to the devs for working on this super ambitious project and best of luck.
For my part as a gamer, I already have a few visions for some corporations, but before I can actually plan on I first need to check out, what is possible and what not. But be sure, my projects are most likely going to be as ambitious.

Quaideluz reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in [Reminder] Line between legit PvP and unhealthy RL behavior
Since the beginning of the year, we have witnessed unhealthy behavior from several members in the Community.
As many are relatively new and some older members seem to lose focus of Novaquark's vision for Dual Universe, here is a strong reminder.

Dual Universe is a game where there will be wars, power struggles, conflicts, plots, spying, information warfare and betrayals. It's all fine... as long as it stays within the framework of the game.

We are aware that a fair amount of people have a hard time to differentiate in-game behavior and real life behavior. While someone can be infamous, merciless and twisted in-game, that doesn't give him/her the right to forget elementary good manners outside of the game. Following the concept "the end justifies the means" will never be a valid reason here.

Novaquark expects from each community member to:
    1) respect the EULA and forum/Official Discord code of conduct
    2) be respectful toward any other member or at least neutral toward the members you don't like outside of the game, whether they are newcomers or veterans.
(neutral means: no free provocation, no real life insults or real life threats, as already mentioned in forum and Discord chart)
    3) avoid using any real-life conflict, unhealthy real-life behavior or drama (made on purpose or not) as part of the game (because it's not) as this can escalate in very toxic and unnecessary situations.
    4) avoid using any underhanded real life "tricks" to gain an advantage in-game. This includes:
    - real life threats or real life harassment with anonymous accounts outside of the game (on Discord or any other online means).
    - doxxing, doxxing attempts, or any behavior like gathering real-life information that could lead to doxxing.
    - leaking publicly private discussions about real-life topics (especially when showing only carefully selected pieces with the deliberate intention of biasing the facts) without the agreement of all people involved. This also includes Novaquark’s investigations that haven’t been publicly announced and about which you may have been informed through a private channel/room or a private discussion.
    - making false accusations, creating NDA leaks or false NDA leaks to accuse someone else with the goal of making them punished or banned from the game.

As a company, we want to provide a fun and welcoming experience to our fans and can’t tolerate inappropriate real life behaviors that potentially ruin the gaming experience or worse, lead to real life consequences.

If the Novaquark staff gets enough evidence on any of those behaviors, the team may give any sanctions deemed appropriate without further notice.
If you see some community members having inappropriate behavior, please point them toward this forum thread.

    Best Regards,
    The Novaquark Team.

Many followed the affair - some a little too closely for their own good - but many did not, so I shed some candlelight on the recent conflict between Dark Star Imperium and The United Empire, and its regrettable consequences.

Please keep in mind that this topic is 1. a bit partial, because no-one is truly "neutral", and 2. abridged, because I kept superfluous and/ or unknown parts out.

Now we can all archive this, stop wasting NQ's time and carry on as better people.

    Hi everyone,

As an exceptional case, we are replying this topic, even if it’s closed, to avoid any misunderstanding. As an exceptional case, as the involved user has explicitly asked for public explanation and the customer support agrees with it, we are in a situation where both parties agree to make it public, so it doesn't break the confidentiality policy. We also want to share this as an example that things don't happen for no reason (and in the case of an error, we are ready to fix it).

Just to put things in perspective:
    - Emtec3PL account wasn't suspended regarding the game (the account has never lost his rights to play the game when the time will come).
    - Emtec3PL account wasn't suspended on the forum and was still able to contact Community Managers in private.
    - Emtec3PL account was suspended on Customer Support side.

    The situation:
    - Emtec3PL pledged 1 euro as a symbolic donation during Kickstarter campaign (in which case it was clear it was a donation, with no rewards attached to it).
    - Emtec3PL pledged then an Iron Founder Pack after the Kickstarter campaign, which has been upgraded as a Silver Pack shortly after.
    - As explained in the news on our website here the access time, depending on the founder level, was pretty clear and self explanatory:
All Kickstarter Founder Backers get access at Alpha 1.  Post-Kickstarter Founder Backers get access at the earliest at Alpha 2. Emtec3PL becomes a Founder Backer after the Kickstarter campaign, first as an Iron Founder, than as a Silver Founder, so he's rightfully considered as a Post-Kickstarter Backer and will get access Alpha 2. Emtec3PL contested that fact and asked repeatedly to Customer Support for an access to Alpha 1. Novaquark Customer Support denied the request and explained why. The last answer from Emtec3PL to the Customer Support was the following:

Emtec3PL sent this reply because he will have access to Alpha 2 (as planned), and not immediately (as he wanted). Obviously there was no possible discussion anymore, and as part of the process for harassment prevention, the account has been suspended on the customer support side. If Emtec3PL is willing to come back to a more constructive discussion, the account can be unsuspended.

This example might be useful to put in light how we manage customer service here at Novaquark. Globally there are two schools of customer service:

The old school: "Customer is king."
This vision implies that no matter how the customer behaves, the customer service agent needs to endure and gives satisfaction to the customer. In our eyes, this way of doing things is relevant as long as customers and customer service agents behave with mutual respect.

However, with internet promoting anonymity and online interaction, a growing number of customers started to consider mutual respect as being optional and/or lost focus that the customer service agent at the other end of the line is a human being, not a machine, and he/she is there to help, not to endure someone else's anger or frustration. Having daily customers being rude or threatening can damage a team morale, especially when rudeness or threat is undeserved.

Customer Support is not an outlet for customers to let their frustration run wild.
It's a place to answer customer questions and help them when they have a technical issue.
Some people would easily throw there: "Hey it's part of the job. If they can't handle it, they can find another job" or the famous “HTFU” (which is perfectly fine in a game where a part of the fun is to compete to see who is the toughest guy. It’s less fine when it applies to your real life where you can’t log out) Our answer to this is "No, it's not part of the job, unless it has been decided that way by the company. It's not up to the customer to decide this part."

At Novaquark we value Customer satisfaction as much as Employee well-being.
The reasons? We don't want the job of anyone becoming a chore because we aren’t interested in burnouts and high turnovers, and also because we are convinced that, having people less stressed and less harassed than the average in the industry will benefit indirectly to the Customers themselves. So we won't encourage negative behavior from some customers, quite the contrary, by applying consequences to this kind of behavior.

To put it simply, we are following the other school:
"Customer is king... but even a king has its limits."
We will always do our best to satisfy a customer as long as:
    - the request/demand is reasonable and motivated by common sense.
    - the request/demand is made in a respectful manner.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Obviously there are multiple main drivers for the game, PvP isn't less than building and building isn't less than PvP.  Pretty strange that some people haven't picked up on that yet.

PvP won't just be to "settle disputes if all else fails".  The whole reason there are safezones is because that isn't the case lol

    Also from the front page:
"get ready to face players fighting for supremacy, resource control or geostrategic advantage. Space pirates raid lonely travelers, corporations steal from each other, warlords rain destruction and cities need the costly protection of dome-tech…"

While I agree that space in DU is vast and there'll be plenty of territories and hideouts for explorers and builders to stay somewhat safe and do their thing plus real safezones (aka  MSA and ASA) it's crucial to state the facts, as of now, too:

    - there  are moons (MSA) which are 100% safe
    - there's the arkzone (ASA) which is 100% safe
    - rest of DU is as safe as ppl want or make it (UA)

It's up to the players really what they do and if they police their territory or systems. But everyone should be aware that outside of MSA/ASA he can be attacked

And yes,  Im only talking about physical PvP here

The key thing is that defence has to be strong, so you need to commit a lot of resources to attacking bases, particularly established cities.  That way people can choose to live within a certain amount of protection.  If people want to go live on the outer rim, solo or in small group, then they are hoping they dont get found and they should play with that in mind.

it's NOT a safezone which you can build.

It's thought about by NQ to give players some kind of module/element to create a SHIELD bubble which protects an entire hex. Enemies can't destroy anything inside that bubble - first they have to attack and destroy the shield. Once they attack the shield, the defender gets a warning and a 48h timer starts for the defender to organize the defense. After that time the shield can be attacked again and killed - and the defenders can try to kill the attackers first.

There's NOT leveling - it's a similar system to EVE. You gain skills passively by just playing the game (NOT while doing a certain activity). Then you just gain a small bonus on the task at hand (+5% to accuracy, +10% build speed, +20% inventory capacity, +% to whatever skill there is). Obviously these numbers are all made up and we have yet to see the skill system - so take everything with a grain of salt.
