However, uncool designs (cube ships) won't sell. A balance of the two is needed if you are going to be a ship builder

And if you want to lay claim to some asteroids, just park a core unit on it when you are out exploring.

Just going to say this, Planet rotation is something they WANT, but they may not be able to get it until after release (its not a priority)

I imagine that everyone's first build will be a speeder bike/hover car. I plan on making mine as disposable as possible so I can scrap them so I don't need to store them. Maybe later I will build a hover base (something the size of a house) that I can ride around in and store resources in.

You know, this is probably the universe convincing me to do a video on economy and player interaction. ALRIGHT! I'll get on it! Jeez...

mrjacobean got a reaction from Anasasi in Using vs Selling Mined Resources?
Some later game orgs (and maybe some earlier ones) will have to start with mining (or exploration), and they will not likely have the facilities to refine what they mine. After they get some funds though, they will want to set up a refinery ASAP, therefore only selling refined resources for a greater markup. Later, when they have all the fancy things an experienced org has, they may stop mining their own materials and buy from the newer players so the manpower can be tasked elsewhere (such as towards their military).

May not be related to topic, but I just thought that if people were going to complain to NQ that their ship was destroyed because someone thought it would be fun to do so, and they want their ship back, I should make an insurance company. Emergent gameplay solves the problem yet again!

I feel that the community team may have quite a bit of work on their hands with all the "HE DONE GRIEF ME" reports. Lets just hope they don't get a shoddy automated system to deal with it.
In terms of the definition of certain actions (robbery at sea = piracy, killing someone is murder, etc.), none of them will be against the rules as NQ has no rules for ingame activity. It's when you start doing things whilst not in character (like verbal harassment in chat or disclosing where you live and threatening to kill you irl) is when NQ becomes involved. Yes, your character can vow revenge against their character. No, you cannot threaten/blackmail them with irl information (especially if it is personal or sensitive).
As a butler once said, some people (griefers) just want to watch the world burn. As long as it does not spill into real life (or bypass ingame systems, like a bug), then NQ does not need to do anything.

The real way to play a game. Get pissed, yell "Leeroy Jenkins", and somehow beat everyone else.

That is only to look the part. In order to fool the system, you would need a hacked ID (so you don't come up as hostile or neutral to those whom you are sneaking past).

The Boxship of doom is the same as the boxhouse of ergh in minecraft. They will exist. We shouldn't be getting rid of tools so that "less experienced" builders can't use them as that hurts the builders of the monuments and megatowers. As a compromise, we could have the ghost image ability locked behind a skill tree, just as you would keep knives out of reach of toddlers.

Maybe have it as a ghost image? Remember, there is a 'creative mode' of sorts, but it can only used to create blueprints, and is better for ships than organic land bases.

Yes. Only in game politics can be discussed!

I think Gas Giants would come in an expansion (it is cool, but not vital). The problem would be that only new systems would have them. Alternatively, you could have gas giants in the game but if you approach them they tear your ship apart (so they are just locations, not voxels), until they release the tech (expansion) to enter them.

mrjacobean got a reaction from jmorrison51 in Ship Ideas?
I think that most people are going to own a multi-purpose (personal) ship, one that has ftl capability, a decent sized cargo hold, some weapons, atmospace flight, etc. (to what balance depends on the player)
It is more common for orgs to have the specialised vessels, like pure combat vessels, carriers, mining barges, cargo haulers, troop transports etc. because they have the resources to field multiple ships at once, and the variety of ships complement each other (a carrier is useless if there is only one pilot). I imagine that BOO (and other orgs with a relaxed structure) will field personal ships instead of structured fleet due to the nature of such orgs.

I recommend making drafts in space engineers (the voxel modelling tool does not have enough detail) so you have an idea of the floor plan and how everything connects together. Pictures can have a lot more detail than words, videos with voice overs even more so. Other than that, good design. I may not be a merchant, but I will certainly need access to them. Some Super-Capital ship dry-docks wouldn't go amiss if you plan to expand (they will also need repair, and the vast majority of the shipyards will be owned by political factions for their own ships).
