I don't agree with the rules of the game, that's why I don't subscribe.

    I want to help DU.
The reason for the fall of DU will be the rules that are in force now. And I am sure of that.

A game that imposes restrictions on players has no point in existence.
A game that forces players to perform a specific activity has no point.

I'll expand on what's going on

PVP should be an option, not a requirement. You yourself write that transport missions are boring and many hours were wasted. Think of a new player who flies for several hours only to be destroyed by a pirate thief. Such a person stops playing.

Ship speed limits are another inexplicable limiter that has no basis in physics.

Faulty or missing mechanics regarding the spawning of resources in fields.

hese are the flaws that will contribute to the downfall of this game.
And the PVP community was the only one that was listened to.

We need schematics, but with different work of it. Just make the schematics storage, that can share all contains schematics in it between manufacturing elements in core, where storage placed.

HAY NQ I have some FEEDBACK for you.

Without going into pvp and getting this plasma, there is absolutely no reason for me to get tier 5 ore.  I can't make anything except for scrap, honeycomb, and parts for elements I can't make.  Why does EVERY single tier 5 item require this plasma stuff?  I can't even make a bonsai or a container without it.

Even worse, because Warp Beacons use the same plasma as the containers do, and with how many people want to make warp beacons with it, I'll never ever be able to make a tier 5 container.  This is some pretty awful design in my opinion and I want you to know that.  Please reconsider this plasma stuff being required for every single tier 5 element in the game.  It's actually really awful design for the large number of us who don't enjoy the pvp in this game.  PvP is not the only way to enjoy this game.

    EDIT:  Adding the following
Why is there not a new 6th tier of "Alien" items that need the plasma instead of completely making T5 ore completely useless to people and ruining the already existing industry for T5 items?

Based on the explanation you have given so far of the changes, it appears that running a factory will involve running between machines, stuffing punch cards into them. This concept is laughable. We can access all of the industry machines on a core via lua, and see their status. The technology exists in both the game and the game lore. Why are we physically putting things into these machines?

If your goal is to reduce the number of industry players and factories, I do think you will be successful, but not due to clever design. This will so tedious that many people will want nothing to do with it.

Understand your product. What makes industry fun in the first place? I love designing the factory. Creating the layout, managing the connection limits, figuring out how to maintain a high throughput. These are all cerebral tasks. The people that are attracted to this style of gameplay don't want to put punch cards into machines. This is what automation in a factory is supposed to eliminate!

I am sure at this point the punch card design is too far into development to change. Could we at least have a way to interact with the entire factory (all industry on the core) and not deal with putting punch cards into individual machines? This would remove much of the tedium while also making it easier for multiple people to maintain a factory.

You should not force people into orgs ,if one person dedicated can have factory let them . If they have lots of ore let them make all the parts and engines they want no reason to punish them . Shouldn't be about how many accounts or  how many DACs people have but about the effort someone puts in and has fun and rewarding. Seems like turning more  pay to win with more schematic copying along with more mining units or like before more mission alts .

If limit  industry units running at a time might as well limit number of shots in PVP from guns to 1 per minute just have them do damage over time , it is the same concept just no extra cost like on industry .

The main thing in the game is building and manufacturing without it or limiting it to much would cripple the game play . The manufacturers are what keeps the game play flowing . If this is introduced into the game bad there will not be enough manufacturers to fill needs .

Element loss of life needs to be reintroduced back into game play it would help .

Introduce recycling of parts and elements back to ore like 70% of ore cost to make with new recycling talents at max .

This is time gating manufacturing with new mini game not good. This will make more people do their own Tier 1 and Tier 2 things equals less interactions between people less market activity and more machines over everyone's factories running at once .
A starting player , or i.e.  for all if server wipe , would be severely hampered . Time gated element making containers , engines , and ship parts . Transferring schematics every day would be a pain . Seems to many things are wrong with this , schematics are fine just maybe lower T3 thru T5 prices  a little bit .

Should not keep limiting game play if this is a do anything you want sand box game .

Well, this is basically a ban on solo players running big factories (like me).
People will be able to make a small range of stuff on the side, but dedicated industry is dead.

I do not think this will lower market prices (on the contrary: material cost is already not in line with the price of higher tier items), but it will succeed in banning industry as an specialism.

Together with the (probable) upcoming wipe it kind of rules me out for coming back to the game because the industry is what I liked most since Alpha.

My background. I played Eve Online as a manufacturer/researcher/miner. DU is basically copying Eve Online in the same steps they used to create their system it appears. The reason I left Eve Online is because I had 18 characters (equal to 6 paid accounts) just to build ships that took me and another persons with a set of highly skilled toons to build huge ships. It took 10 months to build and assemble the ships. Blueprint originals, Blueprint copies, Blueprint research and efficiency queues, moon goo mining, mining with lasers, protections to mine, paying people for moons to mine, paying people to live in the sector, paying taxes on everything. Yes I made a profit and I spent $90/month on the accounts and my partner spent another $90/month.

Now DU, you can probably see why I left. And my friends left after many years as things kept getting more complex and time consuming. It took way to much time and resources to build anything. It didn't happen in a day, it progressed that way after many years.

My recommendation, destroy the schematics, create the machines that will produce the items as you did before with the following changes, A basic level refiner can create basic level ore without schematics (its built into the machine), do this with all the machines. Just tier the 5 levels until the exotics are insanely expensive to limit the use. It still takes a ton of time to create 1 exotic part so the market will not be flooded with T5 and T4 equipment assuming a player base is continually building.

Remember KISS. Yes, every programmer, life cycle specialist and computer guru should know this. It also keep the backend mechanics of the game to be cheaper and much easier to change. Also, you can add new parts easily at will. Object Oriented Programming - just add it to the machine.

You can also add a T6 BP, that requires all T5 schematics to build super rare and valuable treasures that may be found throughout the world.

I will not play a more complex and time consuming game. Time is to valuable to waste. Complexity is geared towards such a small niche of gamer that I would be afraid the game would not expand its player base all that well.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Thanks

The problem with the now coming is that it tries to showhorn an EVE style BPO/BPC system into a factorio style industry system.

The blueprint system work sin EVE because there is no differentiation between compenents as to where they are built. It also works because in EVE people playing theIndustry game will generally focus on making X by buying what is needed to make X an ssell it back to market, And X can be anything between a ship and a subcomponent used to make modules.

Research blueprints in order to optimize them and maximize their yield and cerate copies of these optimized blueprints with Y runs is a separate loop entirely.

DU however is designed for players to always work towards an endproduct by producing everything needed for that in a chain. And simply copying the base system EVE uses is not going to work for that.

I also found the post on this to be very misleading. I do not see where at any time, NQ listened to feedback or came to their current new implementation based on feedback. The seeming emphasis on reduction of schematic cost mere days after intrroducing them, due to the fact players abandonned the game in droves, was a knee jerk reaction to stop the bleeding, not "listening to feedback". It was self preservation which effectively took away most of the purpose and effect schematics were to have.

And it sound like this is yet another "play in the UI" change, moving more action away from the actual world and just use an interface without the need to travel and get the schematics you need. Another boring greenish UI box .. yay /s

But as I expect that the 4 hour maintenance coming tomrowwow will drop the new system on the game and throw it into turmoil and chaos once again, mere weeks before a planned release, will only backfire in a big way. INdustry is becomeing a chore even more than it allready was, it becomes tedious and a job. And with it a good few sho are still around will decide it's not worth their time and move on.. again..

Yes, a game like DU needs quanta sinks and faucets. But this is not what should be a sink, this is what shoudl be part of the buy and sell economy and as it seems to be designed now, it wil not be.

This post was confusing, it kind of sounds like the left/right hands of development aren't on the same page. Is this essentially saying, they're making 'core' schems and you have to print a consumable copy to run an industry - So now I have an additional possible reason to troubleshoot all the industry when they turn off?

    PLEASE NO
What happens to current schematics, and factories running them? Are schematic locations affected again? Some of the lower tier items can't be bought on alioth, sanctuary or haven, You have to go to at least Madis to find some BASIC ITEMS! Because of this people would stock up on schematics and overcharge those back on Alioth who couldn't be bothered (or have the capability) to warp there real quick.  How will this benefit longtime/existing players? Cause it sounds like it isn't going to reward the hundreds of millions (billions) of quanta people have already spent to specialize in an industry or like me, dabble in a little of everything.  If I have the cash, and want to purchase anything NOW, I'm not going to wait for a schematic to cook up in some queue. We already have a talent system that limits people that way.  We literally just had a talent reset, it was unexpected and it took me hours of taking screenshots of every skill page, then referencing those each again took hours more to restore post-wipe.  This  update would most certainly require another talent wipe. This update still does nothing to address the huge problem of the economy: theres no current way to show interest in buying certain items without a 100% deposit as a buy order. The Quanta just sits there and I have no way of knowing if/when the order will get filled.  The bot-linked ores in the market have crashed the prices, now theres no incentive to have large hauls from planets because people just sell ores to the local market bot. This means no ones paying to have anything hauled and they don't need to move it themselves. I used to have T1-T4 mining units on various planets and have since gotten rid of all of them and moved just to a  giant T1 plot on alioth because its easier to make a profit and manage. The mission system was just butchered, so options for earning quanta are extremely limited. We've been seeing changes coming with regards to markets, the exchange, talk of recycling items down to lesser components, talk of wipes .... and I get it, clearly the devs are trying to take the next best step forward. So please lets have the step actually move forward. Everything this post made me think is that I've wasted time/quanta earning schematics, so now I will lose that investment in favor of another mini-game that doesn't address the bigger issues. I've been around since before schematics were put in and STILL recovering from the damage it did but after the dust settled and people adapted it wasn't THAT bad of a change but it came at a point in the game that seemed oddly late, was not thought out well enough, and HAD TONS OF ISSUES like disappearing randomly or having the value mistakenly altered giving some players a HUGE advantage over others. Honestly the only changes to them i want to see at this point:
Cheaper. Some items and tiers are just so outrageously expensive that you're broke before you ever consider building anything you actually plan to put any time into.  Duplicates: ya its kinda lame having to buy more of the same schematic so a system where you have a core schem create copies would be nice. Maybe some of the lower stuff, decorations, etc re-added to nanocrafter.  More quality of life improvements please, not a tedious step backwards.

Honestly, I think this new proposed system is even worse than the current implementation of schematics. First, because it adds yet another two chores for the players, which are:
    - Babysitting your character's schematic copying queue
    - Going through each and every machine putting down new schematics

Let's get this out and clear, the whole point of industry and factories in a game is to automate things you don't want to do manually. If players were into having to babysit their stuff like this the nanopack would have way more usage than it currently does.

This new feature isn't gonna add more "fun" or "engagement" to the game, but just add yet another artificial limitation. You keep promoting the game as a player-driven sandbox but also try to mold it in your own ways, meanwhile things that should be given a bit more of attention, such as the gameplay department of "things to do inside the game" is lacking, specially after you're past the grinding part and into the "let's have fun" part, and adding a chore to the game won't fix that.
Like, why would someone pay a subscription of something where the only thing they have to do is to once in a while copy some schematics or calibrate miners, but have nothing actually fun to do?

Also, this new approach to schematics gives alt-account players yet another benefit. By this point I honestly think it's something intentional or by design, like an attempt at bringing P2W into DU but not in a very explicit way. I know NQ is desperate about money and keeping afloat, but maybe you should look into other ways of making an income, maybe letting players buy merch or even talent points and quanta, at least you would be honest about it.

Finally, if you guys want to make DU something cool and attractive, then why not look into stuff such as NPC fights or in-game events? Or lore and community quests? I mean, it's way better than adding yet another babysitting/chore "feature" that sounds worse than the already bad schematics we currently have...

First I will say I'm glad that the Schematics will still exist. However with the current idea that has been presented, I have MANY MANY questions.

As a factory builder who was attracted to this game for the Factory building aspects, (I have no interest in combat or PVP.) the changes that are proposed to the schematics seem to be aimed at frustrating and destroying factories in DU. Looking at Large operations like SVEA and Gottchar this will def wound those operations.

Even small factories having to print and load schematics for 2000 programming boards?

The post calls out HoneyComb RIP Honeycomb Central. We have several large player built cities that exist in the world and are being built. Atlantis comes to mind. This will make that project so much more frustrating, since now they will need millions of schematics to make the billions of honeycomb needed for the build.

I understand we want player interaction, and that Mega factories cause lag and other issues for the game. But with the addition of the Exchange and this change to schematics. IS NQ building a Sand Box for us to play in? or a playpen? Do you want player interaction? or do you want player interaction that NQ has control in and gets a cut of the profits?

Also how is Fuel going to work? will we need Schematics for those? how about Warp Cells? We need more information, and once again we have a massive sweeping change to the game. that will destroy at least 2 days of my work building my little tiny medium core factory. Don't even get me started on larger factories that I have no information of. I can imagine how much chaos this will add to SVEA, Gotttchar, Honjo  and so many other large factories.

Not to mention the new Mini game of loading the schematics in to the machines. I want to play a game to have fun escape the real world for a little while and meet new and awesome people, Not be stuffed into the bowels of my factory twice a week attempting to find all the machines that are now idle because they ran out of copies of copies of schematics.

Also why charge players for making copies of schematics that they bought? seems like an un needed Tax on the economy? we are already taxed on the land we mine on, The Selling of items in the exchange, Storing Items in the Exchange, Do we think there is going to be a large market for selling single use schematics on the exchange? is that going to be the new way to generate and bleed the factories to death?

Much like the real world. If we make it difficult for people to produce the things we need in game, then we wont have the items we need to build the ships to play. If you kill all the farms in the real world then we have no food to eat.

Sorry for the Rambling, just a little confused as to why NQ doesn't want us to play their amazing creation.

TLDR; Schematic Changes sound like a bad plan that will kill factories.

This update is essentially a cap on "global" industry (there is a limit to the number of schematics produceable by the population), and a soft cap on individual industry (a limit to the number of schematic training slots, and cash/willpower in buying in extra schematics).

    Some good points:
Removing schematics for many items and some limited (but not all) elements will reduce some of the tedium. Will allow NQ to balance the economy in different ways in contrast to the current just schematic prices. (Inert comment about autominers.) Some bad points (i.e. needs a QoL pass):
Tedium of eternally loading batches of schematics into the machines (and finding the machines). Tedium of eternally needing to purchase/deliver schematics from markets (self-producing won't be enough, unless you heavily alt-up). A few times counts as gameplay, eternally makes it another daily chore eventually. Not fun on top of calibrations.
@Gottchar's suggestion in Discord is that schematics could be auto-distributed to the relevant industry unit in a factory from a central location. This could be the unit that produces an individual's schematics. This would reduce the distribution tedium, as well enable group play when players notice "oh we are low on schematic X" and then proceeds to resolve this.

The issue I have with this is that 0.23 was launched in December of 2020.

The fact that they are complaining about not having enough time when this change has been live over 1.5 years is very annoying.

Maybe if you actually made a real design and planned features, you wouldn't need to spend the last several update cycles reworking features!
Maybe if you engineered the game properly, it wouldn't take a year and a half to push such a simple change.
Maybe if you cared (at all) about making a good UX, this wouldn't seem tedious. Do they even have a single UI/UX person on staff? Very, very doubtful.

It constantly feels like they are making excuses...nothing is their fault, so they will never improve as a company. Their bad choices and poor planning is brushed off as "not having enough time"...

This studio has zero capacity to learn from their past mistakes.

The choices they've made makes it hard to root for them as a player, which makes it hard to offer the "balanced" feedback they apparently crave. If NQ showed a dash of humility, it'd be a lot easier to be positive.

I do not see why the speed needs to be reduced for larger ships at all, it seems more like a PVP insanity chose.

IMO The ship speed should be entirely based on realistic physics: The factors from the mass, engines, fuel and gravity combining to be the only features that affect how quickly a ship accelerates, with no limit on the max speed just an equation based on these four factors that determine how quickly the ship accelerates in a given direction.

It just makes no sense to limit the max speed based on how heavy a ship is, its simply a change that seems to be taking some of the challenges away from space flight and like all things that are arbitrarily decided its going to be controversial, where no controversy was needed.

As for the suggestion slower ships will benefit PVP, they are surely going to just have carrier ships with warp drives making this change redundant anyway. So I really see no point to this change from a PVP standpoint and with the mention of stasis weapons there would be no need for this change to even be considered in addition anyway.

Note: I have not actually tried PVP yet so just commenting on what the changes suggest based on the details provided.

Anyway from the blog update the reducing ship speed based on mass is the only item that seems like a bad idea and I am certainly not a fan of this just from reading what they said about it.

Addendum: Also, if the speed changes are purely due to the mission's system and alts (I assume the alts and main avatar are all traveling in the same ship), then I would suggest as an alternative to breaking space flight in an attempt to try and fix something else that is broken (and not going to work) that instead the mission packages are 'made' into stasis weapons in their own right with a max speed / reduction on the ship they are on. When more than one player character is on a ship this stacks exponentially. I think this would be a far better solution and would only affect the broken aspects of the game without affecting working aspects.
