(edit) Here's the page that explains who gets what now.  Silver is Alpha 2. https://www.dualthegame.com/en/news/2018/03/07/supporter-rewards-for-founder-backers/

    We're in Pre-alpha now.

We could call it a banana cream pie.  Who cares?

But if we call all the phases Beta it would be a bit confusing wouldn't it?

It's just a name that indicates that it isn't the first alpha.  And it's also not the last test stage (or Beta).

    Haven't seen this suggestion yet.

Can we possibly get holo projectors?

Ability to script holograms instead of screens,  or the ability to manipulate the screens and make them invisible except for the content displayed,, ie Curved,  circular,  transparent?

Think " help me obi wan" hologram etc.

But make it linkable and scriptable.  I'd really love to be able to use the BOO map they're working on in a projectable hologram.  Or be able to holoproject a 3D radar map on the bridge of my battleship for immersion and group planning.

I really wish I could upload some examples,  but I'm pretty sure everyone has seen Star Wars.

Not sure why my image upload isn't working. I must be missing something.

Atmosph3rik reacted to Loglyn in Dual Universe Building Fonts - Ennea Font
Building in Dual Universe could do with a simple basis font that is small so that it can create any letter, and the larger the font is the more different it can become. for the limited options of small sized fonts a simple name for that font would be useful; Which I propose as Ennea Font. (Ennea is greek for 9; the amount of voxels this type of font takes up per letter.
There is also a Hexa Font. Alas, some letters are hard to read at this level.
W and M require a minimum of 4 voxels wide, and I doesn't need any width. S is actually more legible as 2 voxels wide.
I hope having names for these fonts and the font being available to be copied for in game will speed up some design processes.

You have 150 ships rolling around advertising stuff with this font on various planets. Each has 3 words on them. 150*2*3 is 900. That's 900 voxels you could be saving your corp rolling around just for advertising. Maximum quality control and maximum efficiency is the ultimate goal of a designer in a corporate scenario.

Another wild and crazy idea for you all!

From what we've seen in the game, from the trailers and videos, is all metal building voxels and terrain voxels. All the rocks and trees, while detailed, appear to be "elements", which can't be mined. I'm proposing that trees and bushes, while not necessarily made from voxels themselves, generate or release materials that can be made into wood voxels. Especially if there are a variety of types of wood colors and grains.

Why? Because nothing says luxury like an all wood interior!

Hmm... that wasn't wild or crazy...

So this was a project i started in Landmark right at the end of Beta.  I was going to get back to it eventually after the last wipe but never got around to it.

It was meant to be a sort of Scifi condo that would be part of a modern city in a hostile icy environment.  I know weirdly specific.

I like the idea of players transporting other players.  One of my favorite aspects of early Everquest was that the Wizard class could teleport themselves and others.  And it was the only way to get around other then walking.  So you either needed to make friends with a Wizard, or pay one.

I don't know about the "discount airline" concept though.

There would have to be some way to violently drag another player off the plane for no reason.

Atmosph3rik got a reaction from CalenLoki in Possible exploits and ways to prevent them
I think the main reason this specific exploit won't be likely to be an issue is that valuable materials will be underground probably in odd shaped veins surrounded by dirt or rock.

So you would have to write a program that could first use the scanner to identify a vein of the material that you want.  And then it would have to be able to visually tell the difference between the surrounding dirt and resources.

It might be possible.  But it definitely wouldn't be possible with predefined patterns.  Your macro would need to be pretty intelligent.

Old Landmarkian here, both me and MaryCath are looking at Dual, it seems to have huge opportunities to become something LM never managed to be. It is of course also possible for it to be another "Mongol Horde" Simulator. Have not bought access yet but we are looking at it.

I agree and disagree with this.

As the community builds there will be a separated identity and culture between orgs. At first I agree that yes elements should be sci-fi as that is the world we will be inhabiting but there is still the possibility a colony would want to be more old school. Maybe with their culture they have Asian, Egyptian, Old Western, etc influences. And even if they stay in the Sci-fi realm maybe they want to be more steampunk, organic-mechanical (think Aliens), eco friendly, industrial and so on. Because we come from the same Ark does not mean we can’t evolve seperatly culturally. I’d like to see different styles that people can gravitate to.

Hi, has there been any date or estimated date set for Alpha 1?

I saw a video that showcased the tools for DU. Ive known about DU for some time but this video really peaked my interest. Been looking for a game that can come close to Landmark in terms of voxel building, and from the video it seems DU is definitly on the right track.
So voxel manipulation is great, but Landmark also had a growing library of props u could freely place, like trees, lamps, chairs...etc all kinds of stuff. And it really lifted the esthetics of a build if u knew how to use them, compared to builds that where made purely of voxels.
From the DU tools video I didnt see much props, other that some scifi props that had different functions. Does anyone know if they plan to add different kinds of props, not just scifi themed, but all kinds of props that u can use in building?

example of furniture props in Landmarkfor those that didnt play the game:

Atmosph3rik reacted to yamamushi in If you are spamming DU, Cut that crap out now
I won't get into all of it right now, as I have dealt with the situation as delicately as possible to try and undo the damage, but it appears that not only was the community discord a target of spammers (people sending private messages to everyone in the user list to try and recruit for their org) but that several other communities were targeted as well. That all culminated in discussions about the game being banned in various places, someone trying to dox me, and a slew of other issues I've tried to fix today. Someone went so far as to accuse me of being JC himself even.

I'm not going to drop names here now, you know who you are, but if I find out you are continuing the spamming and harassing other communities about Dual Universe, I will definitely report it and let NovaQuark deal with the situation. I've heard reports of everything from sending mass private messages to people, to joining other discords and spamming links to the game over and over, to someone joining voice chats to spam the game and harass people.

One person even had the audacity to go into discords and tell everyone they were the creator of Dual Universe and proceed to spam the game over and over.

You are doing anyone any favors by spamming the game, and you are doing harm to DU's name by doing it. It's not helping any of us, and it certainly isn't helping your own reputation for doing it.

99.999% of org's out there aren't doing it, but one or two org's in specific are, and they are going to ruin it for the rest of us if they keep it up. Nobody should be encouraging that type of behavior.

I'm posting this here in the hopes that it will keep others from attempting to do the same thing, and so that the parties responsible know what their actions did.

Hi Primate and welcome on the official Dual Universe forum.

    - The need of approval for your first post by a Moderator or a Community Manager has nothing to do with NDA.
You need to be approved once. After that, you won't need anymore validation.
Why resorting to such measure? Captcha systems gave mixed efficiency results to prevent spam accounts to spawn on the forum.
As we had Korean and Chinese, as well as English spam accounts on the forum in the past, this is the most efficient way to block them before they start polluting the forum (you would be surprised to see how many we have removed so far that never became visible to the Community

    - You might think that current Supporter Packs are underwhelming. That's totally your right.
Sure, there are a lot less attractive than our previous Kickstarter Founder Packs, but they remain worth it in terms of value: their price alone is approximatively the total value of the number of DACs (tokens for months of playtime) included in it. That means that everything else if given for free (while cosmetics items - pets, outfits, skins and decorative Elements - have also a significant value too). The value of Pre-Alpha access is not even taken into account as we consider it a "bonus perk" for those who want to support the game beyond just buying it to play. As mentioned in the disclaimer of the Patron Pack, Pre-Alpha is not meant for those who want an immediate fun experience, as the game is not yet at this stage. Pre-Alpha is meant for those who really want to help us tracking bugs and give feedback on every aspect of the game in its current state. In any case, just wanting to play the game and have fun is perfectly understandable, it's just it's not the right time for that yet, and that's why we won't encourage players to aim for a patron pack if they're not interested in this early phase.

    - Live gameplay is limited for the time being indeed.
That's pretty common in this early stage, especially for a MMORPG.
Again, if you prefer to play when the server will be up permanently, Pre-Alpha may not be the phase you want to join, and that's totally understandable.

    - Subscription model is necessary. Server architecture to host the whole community in the same universe (no instances) and Quality Support cost a lot.
As this kind of cost can be, in a certain measure, proportional to the amount of players, it would make no sense to go Free-to-Play and even Buy-to-Play could be a risky move.
Hence, Subscription model is the most logical choice.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

I wouldn't worry about it, this forum is basically designed for overthinking things. Any discussion about experience with the game is under NDA and we've barely got 4 hours worth of (some very old) footage and descriptions with fairly little actual gameplay. What else can we do but overthink things

Love Empyrion, but this claim is at best pretentious. You have no actual control over the core planet design. Also the scale is much, much smaller. You can easily walk around a planet in Empyrion, I'd suggest you try this in DU  ..  I always have a chuckle when I read the claims regarding the seed in Empyrion when it really only determines where the resources are.

Empyrion has a lot to offer on paper, but it's all very shallow and the immersion is minimal. It's much closer to SE than it is to DU. Really DU will be much closer to EVE without the huge battles and fleets but with the control players have over the actual game and how it evolves. To me SC is really going nowhere very fast and ED is bacially Trucking Simulator in Space, quite fun actually but that's about it.

For me, DU holds a lot of promise of which we  will need to see how well it translates into an actual game.

What makes this game stand out from other games that exist already?

The overall single detailed universe is being done by Star Citizen.  The space sandbox builder has been done by several other games already, such as Empyrion Galactic Survival and Space Engineers, as well as others.

To me, it seems the primary differences are as follows:

1.) Top notch graphics (better than EGS and SE, but maybe on par or a bit below star citizen).
2.) Single shard universe (again, not the first to do it, see Star Citizen, EVE, but first to do it in a highly rendered voxel world)
3.) Completely user driven content - this one seems to be the most unique of all of them (although perhaps there is a game out there that had this, like minecraft, not sure)

So it seems the main differences are not necessarily differences, but the fact that they are taking all these elements that other games have done and combining them into one game.  Is this a correct assessment?  What do you think makes the game stand out the most?

Edit: Also, let's discuss the pros and cons of combining all of these components into one game.  What tradeoffs are there compared to these other games that DU draws from?
