The last word from NQ on the element stacking issue was that they were going to fix the algorithm and then test it on the live server with Athena.

I haven't bothered to log in.  But it sounds like the new element stacking detection works about as poorly as the last version.

So hopefully they toss this one out too, and try again.

It's absolutely ridiculous to implement something that has this huge of an effect on so many players, just for the sake of removing the remnants of an exploit that has already been fixed.

They need to figure out another way of dealing this those old stacked ships.  This one clearly isn't working.

Yea and you will quit soon after for one reason or another. While wrong, exploits had/has virtually no impact on other players. It’s just an excuse.

I tried to address the NQ post without any emotion or position. While I would rather not wipe I'm not completely against it. I'm really concerned the reasoning for a wipe is over looking the root causes that will come back post any amounts of wipe.

Fix the problems not erase each time they occur!

So any future features (AvA, TW, Power) that end up being unpopular will be handled how? The above suggest a wipe is the answer to that post release if unpopular features happens again.

There are many things we were told that never came as of now and most likely will hopefully come post release. How would any of these be different in impacting the in-game economy or allowing players to get extremely rich way faster than intended, due to an intensive use of some features in their early stage? This is again telling us a wipe is the answer and wipe will just occur again when new unpopular feature is introduced.

A wipe to achieve this helps how in 18 months from now?

In 18 months, what is being done to help new or returning players then?

Snappable preview based BP's solve this and we seen some of that on PTS.
We had a terrain wipe for this purpose. This seems like a item that will always have iterations and improvements. The above provides a impression that we either will not get more planet visual tech updates down the road or the answer to them will be wipes post release.

Love to see my big red ship in the warp test 😁.

But it's only half finished, and if you wipe the game it'll take me a year to get back to the point where i can continue working on it.

It really seems like the only thing that a wipe will accomplish is creating a buzz around the fact that they're doing it.  Everything else could be accomplished without a wipe, or isn't actually going to be accomplished anyway.

If they give out "magic blueprints" it will hugely benefit some people, and randomly penalize other people depending on how they do it, and how much notice they give.  And giving less notice will only punish trusting people and benefit people who saw it coming.  Either way, not a "fresh start" just a new mess.

If they wipe everything else but let people keep all their Blueprints it's a huge hit to ship builders, who sold their designs only to have one side of the transaction wiped, while everyone gets to keep the other side.

But if they only let people keep Core Blueprints it's a huge hit to anyone who has a collection of ships or designs that they don't want to lose, some of which they might not be able to buy again after the wipe.  NQ just outright deleting all those Blueprints isn't going to go over well.

And if the only thing it achieves is a short term bump in new players, it just feels like they are monetizing wiping my progress.

Thankfully NQ isn't operating out of Germany and or under its jurisdiction?

But yeah, I only played DU because it billed itself as a Persistent MMO. Charging a monthy sub... so to me it was 'launched' as a service, even if still in Beta.

Being a persistent MMO is one of the only things that separates it from soooo many other games. Second to the scripting language, and voxel system. Beyond that the features are lacking compared to NMS, Avorian, Space Engineers, Elite, empyerion, etc.. where they don't have those key features that make DU unique but are still in the space games genere.  All of which I love, but keep coming back to DU for what makes it unique.

I don't think NQ is done with massive game changes, even after release they may need to revamp a system and be arguably back at the same technical point where a wipe is the easy option....

I have held back on my thoughts on this as a statement but this is how I feel.
Unfortunately we are playing a Beta game. the developers did say there wouldn't be a wipe after alpha and there have been leaks and loose statements about a potential wipe since then. This has caused more harm than good. Personally what I would like to see is a very direct statement when its time. either we are not going to do a wipe or we are  and this is how. then list the reasons why technical reasons not social and List how this will help the game in the future.

we all know sometimes in development wipes are important and have to happen. Some times when the devs them selves do not particularly want it to happen. while they are not public I know all of the devs do play the game and have invested leisure time into the game. Also I know the NQ staff are personally vested in the future of the game and its success as they rely on it for income and providing for themselves and their families.

I do not think the developers want to wipe. If they did WANT to wipe it would have been a very clear statement from the beginning.  they would not have invested the time to help us save cores and dig out structures. Or give away warp beacons as rewards for events. While there has been post about pros and cons on wiping their actions  in game have shown that they want to world we have built to continue on.

I think wiping for the reason of player balance is not a good idea. There will always be player balance issues. You will always have new players who have to catch up and old players who seem to own the stars. Its part of an on going universe. the difference is that in DU you have a community of people who want to help new players. Streamers who are here to support the game and help build up the player base. I think personally a wipe would hurt that.

One of the biggest draws to du for new players is the creativity and seeing the things people have built and done in game.
but to wipe because some players have to much is not a good reason. Every game has those who have more time and drive. Who will always do well. there will always be things that are exploitable.

Utilize those who have in game to help the game at launch. the existing server cleaning system is going to clear a lot of content when the server goes live due to players not paying for beta and alpha accounts monthly.  Let that aspect of the server do its job. That just provides more content for players.

We as a community have to stop jumping onto what ever story we hear. Have a little faith in the NQ staff. Im not trying to fan boy them. But at the end of the day we have to realize. This is fun time for us. Its work for them. This represents their income and life. The last thing they want to do is to harm that. The developers are on our side. but first they are on the games side. And even though we might not like their actions at times. We have to acknowledge they will only do whats best for the game and company.  And if there is a wipe. In a few years it will be like it never happened.

We will all be laughing about the stupid crap we did during beta while the nubs are looking confused

Atmosph3rik got a reaction from Zarcata in Elephant in the room: PVP in DU = Pay to win
NQ will never be able to determine whether there are one or two people in the room.  So, they'll never really be able to stop people from using alts.
When they try, by doing things like stopping us from running multiple clients, all it does is widen the gap/advantage between people who are doing it and people who aren't.

But one player controlling two accounts will always be at a disadvantage to two equally skilled players.  Unless they are cheating by automating one of the accounts.

My point is just that If people are gaining an advantage by using Alts in PVP, the answer is to bring friends.

If people are gaining an advantage in PVP by automating Alts, the answer is for NQ to ban them.

Reading NQ's post "SHEDDING LIGHT ON A NOVAQUARK INTERNAL DISCUSSION", for me its very clear that they intend to wipe and the kind of wipe they want.

Now its just a matter of convincing as many players as possible of the benifits of said wipe.

The removal of schematics is being thrown into the bargin, as a mean of turning more people in favor or the wipe. They propose a wipe to right all wrongs but reintroduce the former problems that schematics were supposed to solve?

So now it's a wipe and market nerf, as the newly reset economy will emerge weak, for without the need of schematics it will once again be easy to produce everything, no need for much trade or markets.

Then, a few months after the wipe, they will come up with a new industry nerf.

I understand the need for the wipe, but you can't forget about the players that got you here. Its no one's fault but yours as far as getting new players in the game, as you could have advised more. We helped you build this game by adding content when you didn't. I.E. racing, casinos, etc.... even the youtubers helped create content. We should be compensated, let us at least keep our quanta, talent points, and some bp's. I think we deserve that at least. You can't just erase our last few years of hardwork, designs, and talents.

NQ had already made up their mind when the game soft-released into beta with subscriptions, and people have been playing according to the promises made. Which is why a full wipe now means that NQ will lose a lot of player trust and respectability.

    Or to quote NQ-Nyzaltar directly:

It seems to me that NQ is trying to monetize a persistent world game, and a fresh start, at the same time.

They are making promises to both sides that they can't keep.  And everyone is going to lose.

I don't even know where to go from here.  Ideally, they shouldn't have sold the "final wipe" the first time, if it was a promise they couldn't keep.

And i fail to see how making that promise again to a whole new (entirely theoretical) group of players, is going to benefit the game.

So why would they wipe?  You still haven't given a reason that couldn't easily be accomplished without a wipe.

You keep bringing up that a wipe has always been on the table, but the context of the statements that you're referring to make it incredibly clear that they will not wipe for any of the reasons that you've suggested.

You can make all the predictions you want.  But when you manipulate the truth to back them up it kind of makes it seem like you're just here to change the outcome in your favor.

I know you don't care whether they wipe or not, but there are about a hundred posts on here in the last month that seem to suggest otherwise.

If you have lots of quanta to buy DAC:s it will help NQs economy.
Because someone needs to buy those DAC:s first from NQ using real money.
Only after someone has bought DAC:s from NQ with real money and imported those into game markets you can buy them using Quanta.
