Welp, I am all in for multi-spectrum detection. Have ship designs and angles factor into detection. Have detection be different from each spectrum with counter-plays to them, i.e. gravitational detection working via how fast a ship moves, therefore ships that remain still can be virtually undetected, while electromagnetic detection requires an object to be near, therefore cloaky ships have a "limited range" within which they can close to an enemy without being detected. Thermal is a no-brainer, ships with thermal cloaking have a limited use out of the cloak itself, because hey, heat that's not being vented is turning a ship into an oven. Same mechanics can be scaled down to people, but instead of a gravitational detector, have motion detector or shockwave sensor for people who move rapidly.

As for the Lua (yes, it's not an acronym, it's a single word, spanish for "moon") is going to be used for macro-commands and micro-management of certain asepcts. For example, you can manually set a ship to turn at a rate of 5,5,0 ( x, y, z) or, you can have it as a predetermined value, with the input being the velocity your ship has at the moment of issuing the pre-planed maneuver, and that in return, can be extended to do some flippy moves, as well as have grades of turns, not simply a set-in-stone rate of a ship's turning, as well as auto-pilots, because hey, space is big and more than that, is mostly empty and boring to navigate through . Think piloting in EVE, only much less of a cluster-F. Because hey, quality of life is expensive and should be paid for, and this is where the people who will tinker with the Lua scripts will come into play.

So far, JC Baillie has said that control units are the ones that host scripts, those being cockpits, screen units and possibly any form of control 3D-Mesh object that exists i nthe game, possibly, with different forms of commands tied to them, i.e. a screen unit may have access to engineering controls, while a ship driver's seat they can have access to steering controls for a ship, you know, otherwise it would be silly to drive a ship with a pad used to open a door

I believe a shield should be as powerful as its pier supply so that large organization S keep it up longer and lonewolves shorter.

Kuritho reacted to Anaximander in Timer on shields
    My suggestion, is simple.

Make the timers go away, add "Escalation Hardening". The more constructs shoot the shield in a short period, the stronger a shield gets. That means that a horde of 100 ships will be met with a 100% hardening of the shield (depending on its tier level) which means the defenders got time to retaliate, while if a single ship attacks the shield, the shield gets no hardening.

THAT would create the need for "Shield-Breaker" ships, which would have to be massive to accomodate a lot of weaponry, therefore they would be slow and they would be the perfect demonstration of a Titan in DU.

And let's face it, a battle around an enormous Shield-Breaker ship would be something that's actually epic, and would create a sense of urgency for both sides, let alone boarding parties going on.

48 hour timers work in EVE, due to how easy it is to pass between systems. It doesn't work in DU the same, since gates will be shut for enemies and I don't think a faction, no matter what org it is, will be that stupid to have their stargates unattended by security people, for the stargate to be (possibly) hacked, so that arguement is off the table.

As for SAFEZONES (not to be confused with player-made bubbles) safezones should have an ACTUAL 48 hours timer,  so they can act as a "citadel" to a star system, the last fortress to fall. The Safezone around the starting Arkship is excluded from that mechanic.

And oh god, I hope there's no protection bubbles for every single ship. I mean, a cruiser or higher level ship, sure, there should be a defense measure like a force field, that renders the ship inert (immobilisation) but in exchange makes it have a really powerful shield around it, subject to the same Escalation Hardening I mentioned above. Having every single corvette and frigate have a magic shield of immunity, woul dfuse the point of having space-stations for people to dock in or on under the station's own protection bubble. Battleships would NEED said limited shield, as they won't be able to dock on a station (and let's face it, they won't, too big to fit ) .

Pointing out something. I figure this should have gone without clue. I'm OutlandishRep and welcome to the fantastic barrel of misery and anger known as my posts.

There have been some things going around. Noticed anything? I'm sure you have.

There are spam posters. You know what that means. We have reached the classic point of boards. The people who are doing stuff to irritate others. You know, like me. These people aren't me though. They are people who are purposely causing others some grief. I'm just throwing the grief of other onto their desks.

    The Problem?

At this time a month ago, there was a user. His name was Sakej99. One day he decided to post some spam. This spam wasn't in a can. It was spam that festered with hate and rhetoric of the stereotypically internet kind. The organization supposedly behind this spam? The Diverse Unified Alliance.

After looking through their members, there wasn't a Sakej99 listed. Contacting Dominar Diablo, I inquired about this. Minutes of trying to get him to talk without blocking minute ended up revealing that Sakej99 had simply left.

Useless. This was all useless stuff that we didn't need. But one fateful day on November 24th, this unappealing type of post known as spam happened again! Can you guess the person that did this? Let me give you a hint. It's Sakej99.

A new line of hateful attacks at both Sakej99 and the organization he posted for began. The organization? Solar Secure. The child of Solar Empire. Another useless post with 44 ignorant and disgusting replies emerged.

Want to know the funny thing? Both leaders of Solar Empire and the Diverse Unified Alliance posted something to deny their involvement in this spam. That. Should. Go. Without. Saying.

Both of them publicly apologized or stated they had no involvement. Great.

Solar Secure had a different response though.

Agreement that the community wash harsh on one post. Agreed. Agreement that the community was oversensitive about a spammer that just posted a quick, non-contributing post. Disagreed. This was the community reacting negatively to a post that didn't need to exist. You know, the desired effect. This reaction is better than an upvote haven. The community wants bad posts to be given honor? No!

    Conclusion To This?

Idiotic. A word to describe the reaction. Idiotically, members started arguing with each other in this post. Idiotically, it spiraled into a negative feedback loop.

Spurs of hate spread as one posts something that isn't needed. Personal opinion applies. Community opinion triumphs over personal opinion. Sakej99, a legate of Solar Secure, caused problems that negatively effected the organization. I'll leave the questioning of Sakej99 alone. Spam. Overreaction. Both points that need to be mentioned.

A non-useful post that contributed nothing. Shouldn't have happened.

The community festering hate and harmful rhetoric into that post. Shouldn't have happened.

Want to know something? This community can be toxic. It can birth things like DUExplorers, fan lore, contests. It can birth the opposite as well.

One step away from a OutlandishRep news segment. You know what the problem is? Stop contributing to making it worse. Both sides.

A day after, Sakej99 sent a present. A wonderful Thanksgiving Present.

I accept your invitation to join Solar Secure. You probably don't want me at this point but I'll still join.

I'll see all of you in the comments. OutlandishRep brings you an Outlandish day.

Your topic post sounds like you talk to retarded people. If we want to join your Squad, or whatever it is, we'll either directly look up for 'Discord' on google, know for Discord already, or simply click on your link, so no need to say 'You must install the app... blabla ... called Discord Gaming" like a robot.
It's all so clumsy, you don't even present your 'Solar Secure' thing, you could almost provide a link to explain to us, as I won't just read you and know all about it already.
I won't apply for something I don't know what it is.
Before posting, think about who you're talking to and who to express your message. It's not that difficult, you don't post 10 times a day I bet, so come on...
Plus you are in the Solar Empire, apparently you're confused in your communication, and I just feel disappointed a little bit, the Empire and its sphere isn't all like your mediocre post.
I wanted to go on the Discord at first to talk with you all but I'm really reconsidering it now.

The developers have said they don't want to make pre-made content. This makes sense because in the lore, humanity has spread far across the stars and of course, where they're going, there's no one and nothing there. The game is supposed to be about players rebuilding everything from scratch, and so the lore and game mechanics tie together perfectly (as they should, obviously).

But according to the lore, Arkship technology was developed about a century before the ships were actually completed. This technology most likely includes the propulsion technology. Someone surely must've used that tech to launch some probes out into the galaxy to aid the search for potentially habitable planets; I mean just think about it. That totally would've happened. Humanity needs a new home, so before we finish these massive starships capable of housing millions of inhabitants for thousands of years, run by AI and made of magic material, why not send out a couple probes to see if we can find a good direction to launch them in?

I think it would add not only some interest to the exploration side of the game, but also possibly the lore, if it was possible to find probes out in Dual Universe. Old satellites that are no longer functioning, but from which minorly valuable rewards could be obtained. Before you persecute me for suggesting pre-made content, remember that it not only fits the lore but could actually improve it, and it really doesn't take any of the fun out of the whole "we are rebuilding civilization" aspect of the game.

No. You may have your own opinions but a war will happen naturally. Why would people just fight to the death for no reason in a game where there was strategic points?

I'm sure there will end up being some conflict and some war in Dual Universe.

But it's important to remember that Dual will definitely not be the kind of game where Nova Quark divides us up into teams and pits us against each other.  It's going to be up to us to come up with reasons to go to war.  Which i'm sure won't be a problem.

But the consequences are really important too.

I doubt there will be anything like a "world reset" other then for technical reasons maybe.

I think there are plenty of other games out there that are about dropping you into the middle of a war at just the right moment to see some action.

Dual is about the whole experience not just the conflict.

Also other problems with this, is cooperation, as well as the fact that no one will "likely" want to risk their ships, especially larger ones.

    But...

It is a interesting idea, if everything can be gathered together for it.

Some of you may be aware of Geocaching, and if you are then I'm suggesting an in-game version and you already know where I'm going. If you don't know what Geocaching is, I suggest you look it up because you might be interested, and you can almost definitely get involved.

Anyway, given the nature of Dual Universe I think it would be awesome to create a system of Exocaching. That is, you would go out into the universe and build a little something on a random spot of a planet or asteroid. You would then mark this location on the central Exocach database, and any other player could see the location in the database and go and find your cach, and put their name there to say they found it.

They could be easy, like a big pink monument in a sandy desert, or difficult, such as a little pedestal inside a small natural cave in the same said desert. They could simply be small creations with the names of the those that have found it, or they could provide clues as to the whereabouts of other cachs which aren't in the database, meaning you would have to find the first one to find all the next ones. You could even make whole treasure hunts out of them for other people to find! Although, the point of most cachs is that they don't contain anything valuable, so as to deter theft/vandalism and promote fun.

This sort of thing would require:
    - Coordinate systems, i.e. 'xy' on planet 8 of the system at 'xyz'
    - A method of keeping text in-game, i.e. minecraft signs

It would also need willing participants, though that isn't up to the devs. For a game like DU, where everything is made by the players and there is a huge multiplayer galaxy to explore and discover, I think this could add something fun for people to do.

See any reasons as to why this wouldn't work? Think it would require other features on the developers part? Is this something you would be interested in?
