    Good point.
     
    I tried to find if the RL star Alioth had any planets and such but to no avail.  And jumping 10,000 LY is HUGE.  There are so many other possible closer (habitable even) planets closer to the earth but then again... we don't really know the damage that neutron star did to our home system and any neighboring systems, like Alpha Centauri.
     
    They could just not want any players trying to find earth, lol.

    About the only thing we can do is create transponders so we can recognize our own organization's ships.  I think IFF (Identify Friend or Foe) may be one of the most important things on the interstellar agenda to keep trigger happy Imperials from vaporizing incoming unarmed traders.  And of course, stolen or hacked transponders would be used by smugglers, spies, possibly even entire fleets flying a false flag.  Like they could be in real life. So yeah, we're going to want to have in-game databases with registered ships, verified transponder codes for those ships that may be changed periodically (if a ship gets stolen and you change codes weekly and the pirates don't know it, they'll have the old code) personnel and passenger manifests... there'll be people who's job is security making sure you are who you say you are.  And if you can fool them, you get to make the Kessel Run in three parsecs in order to get the spice smuggled past the Navigators Guild blockade or whatever.

    Sorry, I get confused what quote button to hit.
     
    OK, imagine that the basic engine is 2 tons and has a 3-1 thrust ratio, producing 6 tons of thrust.  That's enough to push a 6 ton ship at 1G or a 3 ton ship at 2G.  You can combine three of them on a 9 ton ship producing 18 tons of thrust for 2G performance.
     
    You have a research track into aerospace design that lets you build a single 6 ton engine with a 10% bonus thrust, giving you 3 x 6.6 = 19.8 tons of thrust.  This is due to higher efficiency by eliminating redundant subcomponents,  Your ship now has 2.2G performance.
     
    You have a research track into metallurgy that lets you build your engine with a lower-weight, higher heat-resistant alloy, giving you a 10% bonus.  You also have a research track into fuel science that lets you burn fuel more efficiently for another 10% bonus.  Put all three advances together, you can build a 6 ton engine with 24.17 tons of thrust, which would power your 9 ton ship at 2.7G.  You'd need to build the engine in a bigger facility to be able to make a 6 ton engine, using rarer alloys and more highly refined fuel, so you'd be dependent on a supply of the right kind of ores being refined using a level 2 technology to build the engine, and the fuel being refined by a level 2 technology in order to fuel that engine.
     
    And of course I'd like to combine that with the subcomponent idea, so on the metallurgy track a fuel injector made with Duralumin might be able to survive more battle damage and be lighter than one made of stainless steel, while one made of titanium would be very durable and resistant to higher temperatures but would be much more expensive to manufacture.  In aerospace design, your injectors could be made to be designed to require less frequent maintenance, and you'd need advanced injectors to be able to handle higher temperature burns from advanced fuels (or suffer higher rates of failure.)
     
    I mean, if it isn't complex enough, it'll be boring and if it's too complex it'll be tedious, I suppose.  But now that I think about it, this actually is rocket science.

    Definitely, Hovercraft Racing has a very good perspective to become a unique and thrilling part of DU's culture.
    Simply keep the vision and be patient, oportunities to realise this idea will grow with the very comunity's growing and game's developing.

    Greetings all. Just discovered this project when someone posted the link to the KS page on another KS project I've backed and been following called Crowfall. Really looking forward to that game BUT my roots are in sci-fi based games and sandbox MMOs and been looking for a new place to call home so to speak since SWG went belly up. Kind of a big sci-fi nerd in general whether its video games, movies or TV shows.
     
    Haven't pulled the trigger on backing yet, still getting info and getting a feel for the Dev but so far I like what I'm seeing and hearing. I'm really liking the old school sandbox vibe with the Devs own personal touches to it. Adding their own flavor to stuff and not just rehashing cliché ideas and tropes. To me its the little details and things that makes a game really stand out above others.
     
    So yeah looking forward to learning more about this project and maybe even becoming a backer.

    A great source of inspiration to look would be KOTOR (I and II) and how it handled the swoop races.


    Sounds interesting tho!  I'd totally would watch the first races.

    The EvE plex system was never pay to win either, it allows people who did have money to buy plex for i state a higher value than the regular monthly rate and then place it onto the in game market for ISK. This allowed players that have the time to make the ISK but not the real world currency to pay, to have access to a 1 month extension on their account on use of said plex.
     
    This is not pay to win! It is simply an alternative service to those who can not afford or do not want to have to pay a monthly subscription with real world currency.

    So, let me just tell you all. I've talked to JC. All your assumptions are completely unfounded.
     
    It is true that we need to have concerns, but this is only alpha. Not to mention, if you took the time to research this and educate yourself before making this thread, you couldn't argue this. There have been plenty of points in the past where they have showed gameplay footage on their youtube channel. The fact that you can come on here, argue about the campaign, and then spout all this is stupid.

    Now, if you're going to argue any more, take a look and watch everything in there. If you are going to argue that they aren't making their point, well then this obviously isn't the game for you.
     
    The reason I am so readily able to discuss this is due to the fact that people who are looking to stop backing Dual Universe or argue that other shouldn't back this are a complete hinderance to the community. I do not care if you're arguing about the fact that the Kickstarter isn't what you want it to be or whatever, your opinion doesn't count more than the next person. So instead of criticising Novaquark and the community, maybe ask some questions and we'll be more than happy to give you answers. The more you ask reasonably, the better.
