sorry you, Kanamechan - especially since you like the update which I think is cool because very contrary to the majority

BUT -> I dont think it is okey to raise judgements at other players and tell them, with other impressions then yours, to LEAVE DU and play some other shit. Most of us are adults, so please avoid such kindergardenslang. Makes me so aggro.

Honestly? I've given up by now. I no longer have the energy to constantly argue with a wall, I no longer have the will to think about how to help the game, I'm running out of ideas about what could be improved, yet there were so many ideas written down here. I'm just exhausted and I don't see any will that NQ really wants to save the game. Savings have been made for months and years, and investment would help much more. I'll just wait and see what happens....

This is just another example of over complicating things. I am 100% convinced now that the community has far superior game development common sense and understands things better than the devs.

This new schematic system is for the very tiny percentage of hard core player groups while making it extremely difficult for solo and small groups.

Schematics should only be for the fully completed item, IE: Engines, Thrusters, Shields, AG, weapons, etc.

All components should be a simple drop down for each machine and you could even add a small reasonable amount of currency over time as a means of "maintenance / upkeep".

Have I come to the wrong place? This says "discussion" thread...How can it be a meaningful discussion without input from NQ?

Don't you find it ironic that the only aspect of the game that is 100% player driven is the forum?

I want to publicly congratulate NovaQuark on keeping up with the traditions, not only of going silent, but also of ignoring player feedback and specially on the tradition of screwing things up with schematics. You're doing a great job there, shoving up this update where EVERYONE TOLD YOU it was a bad idea and yet you did it, maybe because of the greed of getting some people to buy extra alts so they can keep their mega factories around, because that's how NQ does things: as far as you pay, you can completely go around limitations.

You could've done WAY BETTER by getting the long awaited power system up, that way no matter whether you had one or a hundred accounts, you would still be limited to how much power you could generate or extract from the tile and there you go, problem of mega factories completely solved. Now instead what we'll see is whale players still owning 100s of accounts just to keep their factories and some artificial numbers that I'm sure you will use to promote this dead empty game around.

Very good job. Great way to kill whatever remained of this game right before release.

I'm now a bit confused my idealistic DUFriend. My english isn't the best I have to admit. So let me sort some words. I'm fully on your side. You possibly just didn't get em the way I've expressed myself, namely in a positive sense for ppl like you - spending so much.

Meantime you've spend more then me obviously without having one char @livetime. And that's what I respect. Supporting the dream NQ once announced to us, the SciFi Nerds we are.

From who did you get that info with the alcohol ?
Not that it isn't true, but I never outed myself - me wonders.

In the hope these words addresses the my correct standpoint @Cergorach
You - having all those chars running - are one of the MOST affected players and I'm fully on YOUR side.

I'm only on one char plus one beta-key I've spend to one of my friends ..

To be honest it is all smoke and mirrors.  A lot of what was stated in this Newsletter are things promised in 2021.  Why not show some of the early systems for TW, Recycling etc?  We can give you some feedback early on so you can develop it but equally it gives us something to get 'excited about'.

Currently the game is dead, empty, quiet because of the Wipe Hype no one is sure what asset is going or staying and that makes it even worse.  If I know 100% everything but BP's are going I'll get on, fly my stuff, PvP like you want us to to test for you knowing if I die (lets face it its likely I'm going to be outnumbered) I wont give a hoot.  However not knowing means I'm still cautious on asset loss.

This past week I've seen more of my org quit/cancel subs than any other week as they are bored as hell, fed up not knowing about the wipe and wont put the time into the game until they know one way or another if it is worth to do so!.

We need answers and a roadmap.  Remember its been a few months since the last big update was launched so by that a new one si due around the corner (yes I originally read no more major patches but this post kinda says otherwise).

End of the day we just need to know to plan.  Sadly I'm spending less and less time in game and chilling in other games which is a huge shame.

    Thanks

I'm paying for four, so you would need five to get ahead. (I know, I know... Reading is difficult) 😉

And who's paying $15/month per character per month? I generally subscribe with a year subscription, those are currently  $83.88/year. So four would be $335.52/year and not $60/month. Unless they price raise again... Then we'll see...

@Captain Hills I've spent almost $500 on DU subscriptions since beta. Started with one character, added one at a later date, then added two other characters...

If I spent a lot of time/effort on a game, I have no issue with paying for that. As for spending money on something and how much, that is something between me and my wallet. I'm not judging you on your alcohol intake (yes I am)... 😉 But how much you spend depends on how much you earn, how much time/effort you spend on something, and how much you value it. People playing a sport will spend more on that in a year and will have spent less time doing that.

As for me not leaving the game... It's a matter of trust and a future spending of time, effort, and money. NQ has pretty much 'spend' any trust they had, this is (for me) the straw that will brake the camel's back... Time for me to cut my 'losses' and move on. For others it will be any wipe, period. That will make them quit permanently and they are still clinging to the hope that NQ will see the 'light' and not wipe at all (I think that is entirely unrealistic). Others will indeed gripe and moan, but keep playing/paying anyway, no matter the 'abuse', they are 'locked in' as you said. But with an absolute clean start I have NOTHING that is 'locking me in' anymore...

As far as not listening to me. Let me ask you something, does a company want customers that are around for decades and spend hundreds, if not a thousand dollars plus per year on their services (per player) or does it want dayflies that are around for a few months, maybe a few years and then moan and gripe about price increases due to inflation (paying a single subsciption)? I know what I would want as a business...

I'm not fingerpointing. And I'm in the mid 50 if that helps.
But there are some who played much longer and payed much more - the math is simple, they'll loose a lot - and you not that much.

For the game, a full wipe possibly attracts more players you're right - but also respect the math for those who've spend much more cash and time then ppl like you, who threw the towel long time ago.

BTW.: I'll only loose time with my pledgelevel - but I fully respect those running more the one account because this finally also helped NQ to this point where we're now.

So, a WIPE is okey for me - but at least keep the TP because it stands in a direct proportion of what anyone has spend.

    Just adding my opinion...

Talent points are the only thing we cannot rebuild or otherwise regain through playing the game, other than waiting for another two years to get back where we are today. If nothing else persists, talent points must.

Keeping the TP is a must thing.
All the talent points are a very exponential thing when it comes to higher levels, still only giving minor benefits but taking so much longer. So to say, a new player can catch up to a vet within a year by only missing the last 5% of whatever. It shouldn't be the deal-breaker IMO.

And I wonder, if NQ would divide the total spend money from each account by 100 and taking this as a factor for voting for/against the TP wipe discussion - what the picture would be. I guess all those calling for the TP wipe would be not visible on the chart, not even if you scale it with a decimal logarithm.

Some calling for fairness, which is creditable, but didn't spend their dough in the beta-time.
And for those, it isn't really a very idealistic behaviour to depreciate the others who payed.

A new character will catch up to about 80% of the trained talents level for a 2 year old character in a good bit under 6 months and continue to "gain", as far as that is a relevant thing at that point.

I have explained this a few times here as it's very simple/basic math based on how the talent system works. And it is why IMO a passive training system like this is preferable to one which award progress based on "doing stuff" as the latter doe sin fact keep newer players behind, unable to catch up until existing players run out of "things to train".

none, i dont see the issue, the way the forums read there is only 300 of us actually playing the game, so having a few people with skills when we go live will help the newbs coming to the game and allows us to help with directed training, having more talents than a new player is not game breaking. I cant see someone not playing just because i spent 2 years training before they joined up. Anyway, unless you tell people how many talent points you have no one will ever know. keeping my talent points is my reward for paying all that cash into the Dual Universe system to enable it to be launched.

The thing is that if NQ only lets core BPs persist across a wipe, it effectively IS a full/global wipe and that is omething they have actually said they woudl not want to do again unleess absolutely required (which it is not). SO I'm still expecting a wipe with core BPS and talent points returned to the pool. And I also can't believe that NQ has not yet decided on that, that is something which simply does not make any sense, even for NQ.

NQ is not in a position to do a full wipe when they have charged subscriptions for two years, they must let what effectively represents that time (the talent points) persist across a wipe.

    Hello, Noveans!

I’m Cyrille Fontaine, Creative Director here at Novaquark. These are exciting times and I wanted to give everyone an overview of our objectives and direction for Dual Universe.

A game like Dual Universe is a never ending labor of love and ongoing development, but there is a point when you just need to assess if it is ready for a release. After close to two years of testing and numerous major additions to the game, we have decided to prepare the game for launch.

Development of Dual Universe continues at full speed, and we’re spending the lion’s share of our focus right now on fixing bugs, stabilizing the game, improving our back-end systems, and overall continuing to polish the game.

We’re close to deploying a brand new feature that we expect will be a hub for creators and merchants alike to gather and present themselves to other players. It’ll be open to anyone who wishes to participate and advertise their shop, museum, service, or any other point of interest.

We’re also working hard to deliver our promises to our Kickstarter backers that supported us from the beginning. We’re searching for a new shipping partner to deliver the physical rewards as well as delivering the digital rewards through the major game updates of 2022. We’re also implementing an initial web-based version of DACs.

Our team continues to analyze game data and read your feedback to focus our efforts on where we can be most effective, and this means that our plans can change with developments in the game, but looking to the future, I want to share some of what we currently have planned in upcoming content updates for Dual Universe.

Flotillas are a new feature we’re developing that will allow players to form temporary groups of constructs. These will help in identifying friend from foe, assuming your foes haven’t already infiltrated your squad. This will improve many different aspects of group play ranging from fleet engagements, running convoys, piracy, and more.

Another gameplay feature we’re looking to add is recycling, which would enable players to better manage their inventories by turning parts of broken or unwanted elements back into components.

We want to expand PvE with the goal of helping players bring the game-world to life and improving the story in which everyone experiences the game. The mission system is one area of focus for this goal in developing more complex, interconnected, and lore-oriented objectives.
We’re also developing a power management system. A good way to consider how energy will work is to look at how construct maximum speeds have changed. Players must decide how to specialize each ship, and similarly, must make choices on how best to distribute power across their constructs.

We want to increase the quantity of discovered planets and moons as well as new aspects, biomes and gameplay opportunities, and to produce planetoids the size of big asteroids, much like the Thades belt rocks, but claimable as a territory.

One of the most resource-intensive features that we have to tackle is planetary warfare. It brings significant change to the game and, before we can achieve it, we have to bring PvP in general to a more mature state. We know that territory warfare is an important game system to many of you, so continue to help us improve PvP by engaging in fights to generate data for us to analyze and continue to improve the system.

There are also many other features that we are looking to improve or introduce in the future.

Now, let’s discuss the topic of a reset.

We have seen your many posts across Discord, our forums and social media. We’ve heard your frustration and know that many of you are waiting for a decision about whether or not we will reset. Let me assure you that no matter what we decide, you will not be reset back to square one. Of the different options we’ve been discussing in case of a reset, we are certain that you will keep your core blueprints, including blueprints owned by an organization that you lead. We are also looking into which other important parts of your game progress could be kept if we do reset.

Yes, the internal discussion about a possible reset does continue, and it’s no exaggeration to say that this is the most significant decision we currently have to make for Dual Universe. We appreciate our players and your engagement with us, but I also want everyone to know that all of us here at Novaquark are eagerly awaiting the day we can share concrete news with you.

That is all for this message. Until next time, thank you for your attention, Noveans!
Please don't hesitate to provide your feedback here.

HAY NQ I have some FEEDBACK for you.

Without going into pvp and getting this plasma, there is absolutely no reason for me to get tier 5 ore.  I can't make anything except for scrap, honeycomb, and parts for elements I can't make.  Why does EVERY single tier 5 item require this plasma stuff?  I can't even make a bonsai or a container without it.

Even worse, because Warp Beacons use the same plasma as the containers do, and with how many people want to make warp beacons with it, I'll never ever be able to make a tier 5 container.  This is some pretty awful design in my opinion and I want you to know that.  Please reconsider this plasma stuff being required for every single tier 5 element in the game.  It's actually really awful design for the large number of us who don't enjoy the pvp in this game.  PvP is not the only way to enjoy this game.

    EDIT:  Adding the following
Why is there not a new 6th tier of "Alien" items that need the plasma instead of completely making T5 ore completely useless to people and ruining the already existing industry for T5 items?

Captain Hills reacted to Samedi in Add a "quality" stat
Honestly, I think that the design ship has long-since sailed, so I'm posting this more in the spirit of floating an idea of how it could have been, rather than any expectation that it might happen. That said...

I've been thinking about what is broken about the economy/industry, and the main thing that occurs to me is that unlike real life, there is no real niche for "artisan" builders.

In the real world, mega factories and mega corporations do exist, and they do largely dominate the market for cheap consumer goods (whether we want the game to mirror real life is maybe a question for another day, but at least we can probably say that in this detail, the game isn't massively inaccurate).

However, in the real world, there are also people and smaller companies who make high-quality, low-volume stuff. You can either buy a mass-produced Ford, or you can buy a custom-made McClaren super car. The super car is ridiculously expensive, but to some lucky people it is worth it, because it is very rare, and very high quality. Likewise you can buy some chairs from IKEA, or you can find someone who makes amazing chairs by hand. You'll get something extra from the artisan furniture maker, but it will cost you, because it takes a long time to make them and each one is unique or at least very rare.

This is where I think the Dual Universe simulation falls down: there is no way to express the quality of something, other than the very crude tier system. Furthermore, there is no sense in which an "artisan" builder can get themselves to a position where they can make better stuff than a mass-production builder. Even worse, really the only barrier to building high tier stuff is having the ridiculous amount of money required to buy the schematics - which I suspect makes it virtually impossible for someone to do it without first becoming so rich that they can effectively make a mega factory if they want.

What I think would help with this would be if every item in the game - from ore through pures through parts all the way up to elements - had a quality stat. Probably expressed as a percentage, so that it has a large, continuous range, rather than just the crude "low, medium, high" kind of thing that tiers represent right now.

Being able to make high quality stuff would require high quality input materials, high quality industry equipment, and high skills for the particular item(s) being built. If you want to specialise in making something to a really high quality, it should be possible to do it without being insanely rich, but it should take a lot of time; enough time that no single user could ever make everything at the highest quality. Megafactories could still exist, but they'd have to compromise on quality. This would carve out a niche for individuals to become artisans, and they wouldn't even necessarily need to be making actual elements. Maybe all you ever do is make top quality screws! If someone is making top quality military engines, they will need those screws, and they may not have enough time / skill points to make the screws themselves, so they have an incentive to buy yours. Orgs will still exist, and still have power, but that power will derive more explicitly from the combination of the skills of their members.

What I like about this idea is that I think it might create more of an incentive for people to work together, and it might make the trading economy healthier and more diverse.

Of course, the quality stat would also have other uses. Equipment could reduce in quality over time if it was used, so that eventually it "wore out" and you'd want to replace it. Weather effects could slowly erode the quality of anything exposed to the elements, which again would give a reason for things to be replaced. This should be slow (taking months or years) but gradual. Repairing an item would bring it back to full functionality, but reduce its quality - which would serve the same purpose that the "repair three times then you have to replace it", but in a much subtler and more lore-friendly way.

As I said at the start, I doubt very much whether design changes of this scope will ever happen now. It's nice to dream though...

Yeah, power/energy is definitely something that would help with a lot of design flaws. Fairly mind-blowing that it wasn't there from early on. Some sort of quality stat might be another option.

The main point - and again, this has been said multiple times in this thread by others - is that a reset on its own won't fix the economy, and without it being fixed, we will just end up back where we are in a few months. How to fix it is up for debate but that it needs more than a reset should be self-evident.
