It's a killer learning curve. IMO you want to get off the prison planet as soon as you can. (That would be Sanctuary where your job is breaking rocks).

Realistically you have to join an org to do that. You'll have a very hard time gearing up enough to own land on Alioth by yourself.

I would like to make a point 1st.
There are already big factories built by big trading orgs. Those orgs are mostly opting by direct trade and are not feeding the markets.
This completely screws the "market" concept that DU should have. (but i guess that was the primary objective of some cries... opposed to actually caring about any market orders)

But now we even have something completely wrong:
Players like me, 100% against owning any industry themselves, see themselves forced to have an industry, and find themselves as the only market supplier of some parts.
    This is wrong.
I want to go search the pvp zone and kill ppl. Not manage how much copper I have to build res nodes so the noobs don't get ripped off with 5M prices...

Not having all items traded on the markets has proven to actually kill the market economy and transferring all major trading to direct barter between big players.
Those direct barters are the same ones that defend that bots should not have buy and sell all items.

This is killing the economy. Please act NQ.
The test has been made, and failed.
Now let's activate buy and sell for all items (with proper values and rarities) and test again.

It's hard to know at this point what will be necessary and what things will cost. If I'm carrying gunners and marines, it will be because they're necessary and whoever you hire will also need them... and you'll have to pay for them. If they aren't necessary for a mission, they won't be on the crew. If I'm carrying miners, it's because the profit is going to come from selling the product of mining - this will only happen if the price brings in enough to support the miners.

As a solo player, you will be able to afford some of my services and you won't be able to afford others. In some cases, the benefit you get may be that materials from other planets will be available on the market because Hyacinth brough them.

Hyacinth Partners Ltd. is the org for the flight and ground crew of the Hyacinth - a medium hauler tramp spacer. We aren't planning to take over the galaxy or build a city in space... but we may provide the logistic support for those activities... for a price.

    Full flight crew complement is
Pilot Navigator/Radar operator Engineer 3 gunners 2 stewards or 2 mission specialists (Yes the ship has bunks for all those people)

    Business focus:
Transport and Logistics Trading Deep Space Salvage ops Special Courier Services.
    Auxiliary activities
    Mining Security Combat
    Currently recruiting

Navigator/Radar Op Still working on what this job will be exactly. I expect to have software to improve navigation, plus a radar system for tracking and flagging hostiles for the pilot's combat display. (System design is WIP). Will be trained to pilot as well.

Flight Engineer. Monitors Engine performance, fuel, and damage during flight. Fixes damage as needed. Advises pilot on best engine performance.

Gunners. (3 positions) Protect the ship from hostiles. We will begin combat training in A3.

Stewards (2 position) Takes care of any passengers. This includes providing whatever they need in during the fight, but also controlling them. (Steward is a polite word for marine. After release, this job may include combat and we will train for it when AvA combat comes in game)

Mission Specialist (several positions) Conducts non-flight mission activities. We will need miners and eventually EVA salvage. A courier might be a mission specialist for special courier services.

Sales Rep (several position) Based on a planet and usually embedded with a nation-type org, reps will handle sales, provide fulfillment and collect payment especially when the Hyacinth is off planet.

Miners (several positions). Gather resources for transport and sale for times when we don't have other contracts. Miners may double as mission specialists

And most importantly.... Customers! While our customers will not generally be members of the org, they are highly valued and welcome at our in-game facilities and on our discord server...

Speaking of which... find us on discord at https://discord.gg/Tgp4TZY

Well, I'd expect some form of "Intellectual Property Repossession Corps" to evolve in the future as part of emergent gameplay. As I understand it players will have to set up their own police force and rules.

Quite frankly I do have a slight fraction of fear that NQ might get the impression that this organization is aimed towards harrassing other players or organizations. That's definitely not the intended purpose, but if this concern should arise, I'll close the gates without resistance. Tho I hope this won't be the case and we'll be allowed to have our fun

I think we'll see during Alpha/Beta how this plays out and if it creates too much discord we'll start with a blank slate on release, living within the yet to be finalized ruleset.

I've just blindly accepted the first member and missed to read the application. First time I got one from somebody I didn't already know
Does anyone know if I can still view the original application message again somewhere?

@Kiwi well, we have a rule that no org member is allowed to work against his or her other organizations he/she is a member of - at least not on account of CC0. This one rule already excludes anarchy as organization form. Tho even "anarchy" and "organization" do somewhat exclude each other already. Then again what else but anarchy is Dual Universe in the beginning? Anarchy is prone to give birth to groups or clans, which will have their own set of rules and moral code - what else is this world but anarchy with huge clans called France, Germany, EU or USA? Apart from that I might add some anarchistic touch to the organization - I really like that idea - thank you

    /edit/1st
Oh and another thing regarding the placement of this organization: I think it makes a great target for all the military groups to track and hunt down "counterfeit product". I don't know if we'll even get there, but don't see everyone stealing from you as a problem, when you could see it as incentive to act and prosecute instead. Something the "IPRC" can put your awesome products to good use for, eh?

One crucial element people are forgetting is orgs and alliances. NQ has emphasised the notion that this game will be very difficult for someone to solo so most players will belong to and org and possibly an alliance of orgs. In that case, the guy mining will probably be mining for the benefit of his org/alliance who need resources to build ships, bases, gates, etc.

So more often than not, when you attack a player, you will be attacking an org. That's where things get complicated. Are your orgs friendly in which case you broke a treaty and caused a headache for the leadership. If you're orgs aren't aligned one way or another or hostile to each other, you could trigger a war. Additionally, you could end up with a bounty on your head. Not a fun thing if the person paying for the bounty puts out multiple consecutive bounties. Trust me. You don't want 100s of players killing you over and over and over again.

Why is Daphne planning to train her org for combat? Doesn't that make it a combat org?

    No.

It's your fault actually. You're planning to hunt down my very expensive ship and destroy it. In some cases it's not because you want to steal my cargo but just because you want to hurt me. I wish I were being paranoid, but the debacle with my recruiting thread proves that I am not.

I wonder why all the PVP combatants exhort the non-combatants to hire protection and then when we do, they accuse us of hypocrisy? I think it may be that many would be PVP combatants are really just bullies. Yes, I do think most of you are just bullies. That's just an opinion. I think a lot of unkind things about people who have grown up under the current propaganda machines that pass for government these days. I even think humans in general are a blight on the world and should be eliminated. But none of that enters into this discussion. None of it is intended to insult you. It's just what I think.

My org will hire combat specialists - both gunners for the ship and "marines" to control any passengers that get out of hand and/or project force outside the ship if/when needed. I don't plan to need the latter, but I can imagine scenarios in which it would happen.

In A3 which will be have limited combat (That fact is public, right?), we will be training in a ship that flies like our actual ship but is cheaper to replace and limited to flying where combat will be allowed in A3. By Beta, I expect to have our actual ship armed and a crew ready to kick your butt if you want to mess with us.

I may also hire escort fighters, but I don't plan to train them. They will be hired from an org that has trained them for the task.

I hope that clarifies my position for any of you who actually care and weren't just trolling in my recruiting thread. If you have further confusion, you may ask here. I will try to read and respond to legitimate questions even if you're already on my mute list.

Just for General Priciples : I stopped reading after the first line - misinformation is not good - there has been no indication of any real delay with A3 - just because the way they are bringing in PVP differs from peoples expectations does not mean its a delay. I would prefer  people stop putting out their opinion as if it is NQ  info. glad you said "I think" at least most dont.

So a large container still holds the same volume, but what about mass? Does iron still mass 8kg per liter when it's in the container, i.e. L container full of iron masses 1024 tons? If so, I don't see how this solves the cargo problem unless you can make more with the same amount of mined material.

Someone said on discord that mass is reduced by a factor of 16, but I don't see that in the devblog.

An oven is probably within the ability of voxel building. A modern boxy stove top and oven would be fairly easy. An old style bee hive oven a bit more of a challenge.

Public videos have pretty clearly exposed the idea of an element, i.e., a mesh building part that actually has function. I suspect that weapons will all be elements so I expect we'll be limited to the weapons NQ provides. That's really for ship's weapons.

I have no idea how personal weapons will be handled.

I guess they want us to actually put thought into how much fuel we are going to need for things, rather than just running around with full tanks at every occasion.
We will probably have to calculate how much fuel we can bring with us based on how much mass we are moving on our ships. Also, keep into account that they are increasing fuel efficiency, so as to ensure that fuel consumption per distance traveled stays the same after the changes.

Only thing I want clarification on is this:

If they aren't going to give us wheeled vehicles and ships to move bulk materials around with, they're going to have to either reduce mass or massively increase engine power and torque tolerance for us to be able to move anything.  I mean yeah, there's a reason we use trucks, trains and especially ships for moving lots of heavy stuff, but if they don't give us the option, they're going to have to do something.

60km? That's really tiny for a planet. I think planets will get mined out pretty quickly. We'll have to abandon Alioth and move on. Just like real humans... Wipe out the environment and move to a new place. Good simulation.

JC was pretty clear that he wanted weapons to punch holes in the voxels. It stands to reason that some section of the ship may lose its connection to the core... and then it either breaks off the ship or it looks really stupid.

That's the problem I'm trying to solve. If it blows up once it loses connection to the core, problem solved in a pretty cool way.

Yeah. Core deep within voxels and right in the command and control area. As long as the crew is alive you can fight no matter what else has gotten blown up.

Deep within voxels because I'm assuming if the core is destroyed the whole ship would be destroyed, but maybe that's not true.
