My $8 bowl of rice made the transcript!

I found much better food for more reasonable prices later in the week.

Having read over the transcript I'd say it's an accurate representation of the information shared and the answers given.  Well done.

This will work as a short term solution but what happens once the backing portal closes? A potential long term solution that allows anyone to create organisations as well as taking it out of the Community Managers hands is to appoint Moderators that approve of an organisations creation.  Some may still slip through though, so a moderator can mark these as problems and either have the legates fix it or have the community manager put it in quarantine.

I am not saying this is *the* solution. But it is *a* solution.

as a 3D gamedesigner you have to speak english anyhow so why not start here? I think it's rude to just post something in german, but that's just me

Read the devblog and the kickstarter/pledge page and watch the YT videos to get an idea of the game because

    Travel time:
At first there are normal engines which take up to some hours to reach even the nearest planet to alioth
Then we will invent (through skills and possible updates) the warpdrive which will take us to new solar systems (up to some weeks travel time) and it takes only minutes within a solar system with that drive
Then there will be stargates which can transport you instantanously to a new system. Those gates are linked together (because of the probe mechanics to even build those gates).
there are no anomalys planed for release and I think that's something for later updates.

    Energy:
There are already different types of energy and fuel.

    Skills:
They are time based as in eve online and it's a VERY VERY BAD idea if you want to introduce something like a "boss"/library/whatever where a player can find OP skills to train which NO OTHER player has access to. That's just BAD GAMEPLAY

    Ammo:
Look at eve online: only because you use ammo, doesn't mean you do the same amount of damage.....there is EM ammo, thermal, explosive, ....

    btw:
bitte besuch einen Kurs oder sowas und lern die korrekte Rächtschraibung im Deutschen - es ist wirklich sehr grausig zu lesen und später im job tust dir nix gutes

Might sound silly but I would like to see libraries. Some kind of building that stores all sorts of information.

Tutorials for crazy contraptions, books that hold the history of planets and organizations. Maybe copies of treaties between different organizations and corporations. All sorts of information that normally would be on google but now its in a library for added immersion.

Beyond that I would like to see pubs, ideally with some kind of battle wound mechanic that would make players naturally visit those places. Banks, vehicle dealer shops, housing stuff like that.

I also still feel roads and pavements need to be a thing. +1 movement speed for using the sidewalk or road for vehicles. Silly detail perhaps but it would be very immersive.

That's actually a good point. I mean, unless the game has magical omniscient scanenrs on the player suits, if they stayed in a pod - for whaatever reason - they are in a pod and blind, which they exchanged over redeploying in their star system for ... KDR. Yeah...

However, suiciding in-game should be penalised or at least, discouraged. If the Devs were to add Trauma Mechanics in the game, that would be awesome. Suicide adds more Combat Fatigue timers, essentially, hinderign your recovery timer on Combat Efficiency.

    Just saying.

    Greetings, fellow Citizen!

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Simon Volcanov and I am the CEO of the great Volcanov Corporation!
What is the Volcanov Corporation, you may ask. Simply put, it is an organisation formed to become one of the largest powers in this universe!
It is split into five departments: Mining, Surveying, Construction, R&D and Armed Forces.
Each is lead by a Head of Department, or HoD, personally chosen by me. Let me introduce the departments to you.

Mining: Gathering ressources is the foundation of our great company! Should you choose to become part of the mining department, your field of activities would include the gathering of ressources EDIT: Mining vehicles will not be a thing. While this might sound like the most boring and simple activity, it is the one which gives you the most freedom as an individual player. Surveying: Before we can gather the ressources, we have to find them! As a surveyor, this would be your job. Not only will you be able to contribute greatly to the Company, we will also provide with a free ship and guards, so that you can explore the universe to your delight. You have to report to an officer every once in a while, but this job probably offers the most freedom as part of the Company workforce. Construction: Are you skilled in the art of errecting whole civilizations over night? Then a job as builder might be for you! You would have to construct Headquarters, living spaces, mining facilities, factories, vehicles... basically the whole infrastructure. While this might be the job with the highest workload at first, after finishing the infrastructure you would be able to go about your adventures with access to alot of the companies ressources as a reward for your contribution. R&D: Designing new vehicles and constructions for the builders, putting together LUA scripts and analyzing them in the field. That could be your job if you decide to work for our R&D department. This job needs the hightest creativity and intelligence, but will be well rewarded with access to all the ressources and equipment you need to fulfill your dreams! Armed forces: Digging in the dirt for hours, piecing together a heap of trash to drive around in or thinking more than 10 minutes ahead are not your style? Then the Armed Forces might be for you! Equipped with the latest designs in vehicles and armory, your job would be to protect other members of the Corporation and its porperty, as well as securing locations with high amount of ressources. While the Volcanov Corporation is not interested in becoming a major waring party, an armed force to defend our Corporation is essential, plus we might even found a pirate hunting squad with the best pilots and soldiers as officers. After all, trading is one of the major parts of our Corporation and we can't have some lowly pirates endanger our profits.
In the end, your own playstyle matters most to us and we would never force you into any activities.
Whoever decides to join the Volcanov Corporation will be provided with protection, secure living quarters, equipment and vehicles.
Check the Community portal for any questions and feel free to message me directly. We currently accept any application and have top positions to fill!

SimonVolcanov reacted to yamamushi in How would you refine resources before there are refineries?
What about iterative refining capabilities based on a players skill?

    ie..

The Arkship refining capabilities are limited to common ore (copper/iron/etc), and if you want to refine better/rarer materials you need to train the appropriate skills to construct better refineries (and skills to actually be able to use them).

That way you have people who can specialize in refining, and constructing refineries for specific materials. Players who do that could get paid for their services/skills, and players who specialize in those things could buy up unrefined ore from the markets and sell the refined materials back.

I can't imagine refining isn't going to be tied to the skill tree in some way.

SimonVolcanov reacted to Lethys in is a paid subscription needed?
There is a monthly fee of about 13€ to play this game once it is released.

Use the search function - there are plenty of topics about this already.

Either you pay on a monthly basis or you earn enough ingame cash to buy a DAC from another player and use it. So essentially you can play for free if you make enough ingame money.

No, F2P is no option here because of the single shard server
No, B2P is no option here because of the single shard server and the resources your character needs (server side) each month

We want quality gameplay with good mechanics and good gameplay and expansions, so P2P is the only viable option here

I'm thinking of a wide variety of specialized and fully upgradable equipment that are easy to set up but require skills to updrade.
Depending on the system's complexity, such system can be used to monitor a small ship,or even a large city.

They can also be an important asset in the Secret Intelligence Warefare.
Set up hidden cameras or microphone bugs on the enemy faction, listen in on their conversations or steal personal passwords.

Monitor your small ship or even your large city from the safety of your own personal CCTV security room.
Add voice and facial recognition and have the database automatically inform you of potential threats.

With the use of a Radio Frequency Infiltraton Device, listen in or highjack on other people's radio frequencies.

Set up a sattelite and make your own Gps Triagulation Device (GTD) ,with the right skills you can find anyone, anytime.
Use the satelite's bird's eye view to spy on your enemies or just observe your citizens for the glory of Arstotzka!

Make use of sensor devices tied to trigger an alarm or possibly clever desinged traps and secuity turrets on your property.

The possibilities are endless, imo if they are implemented correctly they can enhance gameplay immensly!

    Welcome! Welcome!

Welcome to the grand opening of the great Volcanov Trading Hub, floating in the space above the magnificent VolcTower! It provides a save haven for every merchant and paying customer in this sector. Financed by a slight tax on all trade, it consists of four floors, which house lots of wonderful facilities for every customer!

    Floor 1:
The  lowermost floor consists of the 8 landing wings, where most smaller ships are be able to land. Capital ships will have to send shuttles. These landing wings have fuel stations and repair crews on the standby, always ready to tend to your crafts while you browse the inventories of the local merchants!

    Floor 2:
The second floor houses not only the traders, but also hangars, which can be either used to park your ship for an extended time, allowing you to set up a trade stand of your own or just get some days of rest in our tourist quarters, or showcase your prototypes to potential customers!

    Floor 3:
The third floor has lots of room for storage, so the second floor has room for more merchants, as well as conference rooms that large corporations can rent to hold meetings, promotional events and such.

    Floor 4:
In the uppermost floor is the control center as well as a security hub for our private forces. This floor is not open for the public, only Volcanov Employees. Our guards are specially trained to keep nosy spies away from customer databases and pirates away from your goods, so you don't have to worry about anything. Well, except maybe the quality of your products, but we're not here to judge.

Now, I hope I will see many of you coming to this monument of trade, maybe even as a Volcanov Employee!

I recommend making drafts in space engineers (the voxel modelling tool does not have enough detail) so you have an idea of the floor plan and how everything connects together. Pictures can have a lot more detail than words, videos with voice overs even more so. Other than that, good design. I may not be a merchant, but I will certainly need access to them. Some Super-Capital ship dry-docks wouldn't go amiss if you plan to expand (they will also need repair, and the vast majority of the shipyards will be owned by political factions for their own ships).
