Hey there! I'm Alex, I actually joined the forums a little over a year ago and have been silently observing ever since.
I just bought a new computer so I can run the game and I'm really looking forward to actually getting to play in the beta but until then ill probably continue stalking everyone around here .

    Hey everyone,

I just found a new youtube interview with J.C.
I didn't see this posted on the forum yet so I thought why not share the joy with everyone.

    Have fun.

ATMLVE reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Paris Games Week 2017
    Hi everyone,

Unfortunately, the PGW website is correct: we won't be at the Paris Games Week this year

One of the main reason is the time needed to prepare a proper demo version in "local mode". Each time we go to an event, we have to dedicate a significant part of the team to release a "Demo" version of the game. As relying on a decent internet connection isn't realistic, it implies to make a customized version of the game to make it work with LAN settings. As you can imagine, it's not a trivial matter.

Making demo versions for Gamescom and PAX West was a necessity. However, it slowed down significantly for a few weeks improvements of the game itself. As we want to limit extra delays due to this kind of branching, and as presenting an old Demo version wouldn't make sense (because the game has progressed so much during the past months), we decided to avoid presenting Dual Universe at the Paris Games Week 2017 and focus on the game development.

However, we plan to organize an "Open Doors" event (less time consuming for the team) before the end of the year. We will announce it in the coming weeks, well in advance, to let interested community members enough margin to manage their time table if they want to attend this event.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Ugh I'm American and I hate everything about the imperial system (except temperature; Fahrenheit is a good measurement for human comfort). Especially unit conversions... Freaking slugs and kips and horsepower... Like come on.

Anyway... They did show in the latest video that you can use html and css to create widgets with information about the construct you're in. So as far as that goes, I have a feeling you could make an option to switch between metric and imperial units, or just have widgets in imperial entirely. And ship cockpit interfaces are programmable with Lua. So I don't think you'll have much trouble interpreting things in the game as it will probably be easy to have non-hud information displayed in whatever units you like.

In eve there is an unprecedented amount of player cooperation to achieve group goals.  nothing in eve is made by just one person, it is a collaboration of players against other players.

    Hi everyone,

As this kind of topic has no legitimate reason to exist, it will be locked down.

    @LISPYxLUNA:

Welcome on the official Dual Universe forum.
However, even if you are new, you are supposed to have read the forum rules, posted here:
    https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/8-forum-rules/

What you just did was exactly breaking the rule III.e: "Naming/accusing people".
Accusing publicly people on the official forum, for any reason or motive, is clearly not authorized.
If you have a problem with a community member, you can contact the customer support team to explain the problem.
Despite being attentive to all community concerns, in certain cases (like this one), the customer support team won't take any action.
The reason: the Unofficial Discord is managed by community members and the Novaquark team has decided from the very beginning to avoid any attempt to take control and/or police media managed by the community.

    Another broken rule:
As a general rule, it's not allowed to post any private conversation without the agreement of all involved parties.
Again, if you have a problem with a community member, you can contact the customer support team to explain the issue.

As a consequence, any unauthorized screenshot posted publicly regarding a private conversation has been removed from this topic.
As you are new to the forum, this a first warning.
Please do not insist in this kind of behavior.

    Thank you for your understanding.
    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

The dev diaries before were to show everyone the progress they were making and how things were going. With the pre-alpha out now, I think the time on such an update is better suited for the actual game, where people can experience the updates for themselves.

Not to say I wouldn't love a dev diary anyway, and it would show everyone the progress... But still, gotta give them some leeway. They've earned it.

While the OP claimed to have contacted the admins and said we've refused to communicate, none of the actual admins have received a message from him.

Which leaves me to think that a solution is not something the OP wants, but is here just to create drama.

NQ has been notified by the involved individuals, that being said,

It's in the best interest if everyone would just leave this alone, instead of aggravating the situation.

"It has been a while, and we have made some changes to how the organisation works, its goals and objectives. The recent tests have given an insight, but much more prominent, are the shifting dynamics and unfurling events in the Great Game. A refinement of goals is necessary to remain valid and competitive in Dual Universe.

While the changes certainly are rough around the edges, they will be much more clear as the game matures.

    Once again, cheers.

ATMLVE got a reaction from Primary in economic balance
It seems here like you're grouping all resources into one big pool and referring to them as a single entity. You ask "should resources be expensive"; this is like me asking you if, in real life, gold and aluminum and platinum should be expensive.

I think you're worried that the whole mining and trading mechanics in the game will be shallow or boring; I can tell you right now that we as players now have the opportunity to help shape the game as it progresses, giving input and suggestions as time goes on. This goes for the processes of scanning and mining, as well as rarity. So I would say don't worry about that stuff now. However, the players and their actions will determine some of the things that it seems you're trying to set in stone, or want set in stone. We cannot choose now what the most efficient way of doing things will be, and circumstances and location will absolutely have effects on how cost effective certain operations will be.

You said it would be dumb if all resources were evenly spread out, and I absolutely agree. Luckily, a while ago it was said that many resources will be rarer than others, and some planets will have 0 of some resources. The developers want you to go out exploring, and they will give incentives for that, don't worry!

If you're trying to find a real life star to put Alioth around, then as Alioths star is like ours, it might be difficult as the further you look into our Galaxy, the harder it is to find smaller objects, like our sun is.

Yeah this would be awesone, and useful. I can think of a lot of uses. Issues arise however with things like ownership, piloting, etc.. JC did mention it in a Q&A once, about the potential for gameplay but also issues.

So, merging ships would indeed have huge potentional, but I wouldn't count on it for a while.

Edit: here's where JC spoke about it.

I am a long time gamer. mainly mmorpgs but lately i've been obsessed with Rocket League. I look forward to meeting everyone in the short time before the beta is released.  If there are any guilds that are beginning to form. I would love to talk to you.

I don't believe I've introduced myself here on the forums ever which is sad.  The name is PrinceChawmin, i go by many names but this name suits me just fine. I've been watching the forums every so often that i haven't really talked or replied to any thread here. But i tend on changing that. Dual universe caught my eye on kickstarter and was very interested, i haven't backed on kickstarter but i do tend on pledging here very very soon. Im very chill and tend to be open minded, so expect to see me in the threads cracking jokes, giving feedback, or just be outright boring that you'll throw me back in the catacombs of my mom's pantry closet .

I hope you guys accept me into your hearts, or for this case space ships, and become cool buds. Unless you want to become enemies for some odd reason then bring it!

After reaching a certain altitude you can achieve "orbit" status, but it's not as complex as say a game like Hellion or KSP. However, in space, if you thrust forwards your momentum will keep you moving even if you cut the engines. So if you're trying to park in orbit somewhere, you either need to find a sweet spot to continue moving around a planet without risk of falling back into the atmosphere, or you will have to park your vessel in orbit and apply momentum in the opposite direction to stop. (I know I'm doing a terrible job explaining it)

It all sounds really easy, but in practice (from my experience playing at PAX), it will take some trial and error before you're comfortable with it.

As far as making functional displays, most of what you're looking for we know should be possible (heading/fuel/speed/attitude/altitude). You can code up whatever types of screens you'd like in HTML (or LUA) and make displays that look just as cool as the ones in your screenshot (it's just going to take actual work to do it).

As far as displaying scanner information on screens, I'm not really sure if that will be possible because we haven't been told anything about it. It stands to reason that we would be able to, but that all depends on how much access we have to that information (since scanning, in theory, is something based on a skill level).

Now for the other part of your question...

Yes, you will be able to get up and walk around and do whatever you want on your ship along with the rest of your crew. Do you want to hang out in the lounge while your ship is traveling for hours on end to its destination? Go right ahead. Do you want to have a fancy star-trek like bridge, or perhaps something out of Battlestar Galactica or Star Wars? There's not much stopping you but time.

Many people don't want to have to work in crews to fly around, so they'll probably end up in single-person ships. Others will want to work together with others, and they can certainly do that.

Things will require planning, especially during the exploration aspect of the game. Do you have enough fuel? Do you have enough food (when food is a requirement after release...)? Do you have a contingency plan in place if you get attacked along the way?

It all really depends on what you want out of the game and how you choose to play it, and perhaps who you play it with.

Yes to a certain extend. Planets will have different gravities, different atmosphere densites, you can put space station in orbit, reaching escape velocity will be different according to the celestial body.... but devs said very often that water mechanics is difficult in a game made of voxel, so water mechanics will be kept simple. So everything won't be perfectly matching real life physics.

No import from third-party software are planned at the moment.

This game will be released with few planets and this number will increase over the time by procedural generation. You will be able to create static buildings (house, industrial compounds, cities on planets, asteroids, moons...) and mobile construct (space ships, hovercraft...). Big space ships will be able to carry other smaller ships. So, basically, yes, you should be able to launch rockets that will put in orbit a space station... You can modify planets, asteroids, moons because they are all made of voxels; but it will take times (a lot of times:
Now there is a visual effect when entering in atmosphere, I'm not sure that materials are heated, maybe in future.

You should have a look on the official youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/dualthegame/videos and the official wiki:  https://dualuniverse.gamepedia.com/Dual_Universe_Wiki for more information. The wiki collect official info from devblogs, dev's interviews....

Final release is aimed for end of 2018, with several versions of pre-alpha, alpha and beta.

This game is MMO and you won't be able to create solar systems or planets on your own, they would be procedure-generated. So in this case you will be able to explore only. You are able to change planet appearance by mining and building things on it, but from what I saw in devblogs and forums - planets would be really gigantic and it can take too much time to recreate landscapes from real life on them.

As for building stuff ingame - I believe you will be able to recreate real space rockets and adjust behavior of engines to be more similar to what we have in real life with lua scripts.

Well, wether you like it or not, the "single shard" expression isn't born yesterday and hasn't been invented by us, as it has been used for more than a decade in the video game industry, and has been widely spread with EVE Online.

Edit: According to wikipedia, a "Shard" can be used to designate a database architecture OR a game server (which can be hosted on several computers).
