    That is just wrong.

I know it's rare these days but it is actually possible to create a product that is successful because it's GOOD and people are happy after they buy it.  Not just because of internet hype.

    Ok Twerk once again.

You mean Voxelfarm not Forgelight.   Forgelight is a game engine and has literally nothing to do with voxels.

A "voxel reactor" isn't a bug or a glitch or anything really.  It's just a way of looking at a single voxel.

For anyone who isn't familiar a voxel reactor is a term from Landmark.  It's just 8 single blocks (voxels) arranged in a 3x3 cube with one at each corner.  You copy a single voxel and paste it into the center to get a better look at the shape and also to modify individual corners of it by swapping in other reactor corners.

I can't imagine any reason why we wouldn't be able to use the same technique in DU.

edit: here's a picture of a small voxel in a reactor, you can see how it pulls each reactor corner in to the center.

There have been some topics around this area, particularly with building ships, but I feel that the this is a concept valid for the entire game. In a huge civilization-building, player-interactions-driven game, I feel that having people skilled in just certain areas will eventually lead to a more enjoyable experience for players. And this is something that many people may disagree with upon first hearing it, but find in the long run that they think it works really well. Or maybe they'll hate it! I want to share my opinion on it though, and I ask that those reading, who may think it's stupid, give it a chance. Also remember that there are two sides to this, neither are correct, and both are valid. It's just opinion based.

If anyone is familiar with the game series LittleBigPlanet, the first and second iterations for the PS3 played a huge role in a season of my life. They were the main games I played for months, and I had a friend who was into it as I was. Anyway if you don't know the game, it's not important. Basically, you use some basic tools to make little minigame-ish things (I'll refer to them as levels).

Anyway, in the first game, there were a few levels and creators that stood out significantly from all the rest, because they were fantastic (anyone that knows the name "Lockstitch" off the top of their head is a freaking awesome person). Me and my friend, we knew exactly what tools were available, and what you could and "couldn't" do. But some few levels stood out to us because, as people who knew the game inside and out, we had no clue how they some of these things were accomplished. A fair few levels were outstanding and amazing due to their mechanics and visuals.

When LittleBigPlanet 2 arrived, there were tons and tons of new tools added. These were fun and great to be sure, but they made everything that made the old levels special, not special. Because, all of the fantastic things that had been done before (in the first game) were now basic and easy because there were tools to do them (in the second game). This made a lot of great content a lot more common. Which of course was a good thing. And there were certainly levels that still pushed the boundaries. But overall, by making cool and unique things easy, it made great content a lot more common and thereby a lot less special.

If Dual Universe makes building easy, and mining easy, and combat easy, and exploration easy... Well, then there are going to be lots of amazing ships, and lots of miners, and lots of warriors and lots of explorers. You may say, "that sounds great!" But, remember my exceedingly dramatic and emotional story. When you make it easy, it stops being special.

In a game like Dual Universe, where player interactions and jobs and organizations are such a key factor, it shouldn't be easy to do anything. It shouldn't be easy to switch from a being an efficient miner working for a large corporation to a stupendous explorer finding rare resources on hostile worlds at the edge of the known galaxy. Sure, you can switch job titles and do whatever you want whenever you want, because it's a game! I'm just saying you shouldn't be able to switch from being outstanding at one thing, to suddenly outstanding at another. This allows individuals the opportunity to stand out, and be known for something. "Hey he's that guy that makes that line of super efficient yet powerful ships. I don't know how he comes up with that stuff." "What, you want to send Xx_M8_SLAYR_xX to go hunting for that anomaly? He's an architect, someone else will find it way sooner!" If someone wants to be known for something, then they go for that something and only that and they end up being great at it, and known for it. Lots of people will choose to not do this, which allows the few that do to stand out.

I can't really say much else that I haven't said already. I believe I've gotten my point across. Regarding designing ships or stations, it's easier to see how an individual could be better at it than most others. Mining or exploration expertise could be accomplished, not just by having better equipment or skills, but also by there being hidden techniques that people just have to learn by doing it. Thank you for reading and please try and be civil in your response, as, once again, both opinions are valid!

When everyone's special, no one is...
And if you're good at something, never do it for free!

It doesnt do as much good as it sounds for them to be a loot-able item.

I'm going to go against this

Unlike in eve, there are no NPC stations to sit them in. theyll exist somwhere in game at all times available to be taken.

Everyone makes this sound like it'll destroy the game if you can't steal DAC's from people. I'm not convinced stealing DAC's is useful for the game as a whole. Its simply an interesting mechanic for them, but its not really fair in either direction. DAC's themselves arent particularly fair and making them lootable is just another injustice.

Either way is percieved as something not fair. If people with money can buy DACs not fair. If people can't steal DACs somehow also not fair.
I respect NQ's decision to make them non lootable.

Why would anyone ever move a DAC, even if its a physical item just use a tag mark it as yours and you are the only one with the right to pick it up, leave it in the Novark field area, and leave. Realized there is technically one safe area.

I'm not about strong arming NQ to make decisions or using perceived leverage against them I hope they stick to making choices they believe are logical and not bending because the community clammors for something that is opinion.

Great games have been wrecked in both directions, communities asking for questionable mechanics, and devlopers turning their back to community opinion.

I am an avid fan of Star Citizen and heard about this game from another backer.  I saw a video showing the 200 simultaneous clients moving towards one another and then apart as well as the servers contracting and expanding during this time.  I was a little intrigued, but didn't delve deep enough to be hooked.  Then Chris Roberts himself brought the game to my attention, and mentioned it was on Kickstarter.  At first I had an okay pledge, but I have poor impulse control and found myself hitting the manage pledges option.  Long story short now I have not only alpha access, but a lifetime subscription as well.  Since I plan to be in it for the long haul I guess it's time to introduce myself and get to know you guys and gals.

I have already ordered a book to teach me how to program in Lua, and hope to become a famous shipwright.  What I am most excited to see at the moment is the skill tree.  I wonder if they even have it all sorted yet or if it is just x% complete.  With new expansions will new skills be introduced?  Only time will tell.  Oh, and within 24 hours of backing ruby I saw the new trailer on Youtube for the new movie Passengers coming out Christmas.

Anyway I hope to awaken soon.  In the meantime I will dream on the forums.

Hi ChipPatton and welcome to our forum.   There has been indeed a few people on the Kickstarter saying DAC was a "Pay to Win" feature. We also replied to why it wasn't and why we went for this feature.  We also agreed that it probably wasn't a perfect model, but it was the best we found until now.    This was our official reply:
The DAC/PLEX/CREDD system isn't at fault there. The problem is elsewhere because without this system, the problem remains: it's just hidden. And it's not because something is hidden that it doesn't exist.   The people we got in contact with (probably your officers) turn a complete blind eye on our point of view. They didn't try to understand our position or even suggest an alternative. It's always easy to blame or criticize something without trying to come with a better option.   In this situation, how could the discussion go anywhere? Threatening to cancel the pledges (and doing so) won't change the situation either if there no dialog and just threats. We want to listen to feedbacks from all people interested in our game and take them into account, but without constructive feedback helping to find a good compromise for both sides, it's not possible. Also, while we want to satisfy as much players as possible, We are also aware that we can't satisfy everybody.    In any case, we remain open to discussion if you have more to say on this topic.   Best regards, Nyzaltar.

If you want to know more about how voxels will probably work in Dual Universe check out this forum post, https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/14-voxel-tools-pre-alpha-game-design/
And this post in the dev blog, https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2016/02/20/builder-gameplay-voxel-tools-elements/#more-531

We definitely have no idea yet whether Dual will have anything like what was called "voxelmancy" in Landmark.

What we do know is that the voxel engine being used in Dual Universe is similar to the one used in Landmark.  Not the same though.  Landmark uses Voxelfarm while Dual is using their own voxel engine.  Forgelight is Landmark's graphics engine and has nothing to do with anything.

The voxels in Dual Universe should have a similar amount of flexibility as Landmark.  But we have no idea whether NQ wants to support or allow the kind of stuff that was called "voxelmancy" in Landmark.  Things like shrinking a voxel to smaller then the standard grid, or offsetting it outside of the grid.

Personally i hope they don't limit us at all.  But unlike Landmark i hope they give us a set of tools that lets us intentionally manipulate voxels however we want.

On the other hand in Dual i also hope we won't necessarily feel the need for as much voxel detail as we did in Landmark because we'll have more mesh elements to decorate with.

I believe that landmark and dual universe both use the same voxel technology called "Dual Contorting" or if not very very similar systems systems.

As it is now the DU tech is still in pre-alpha and they haven't developed all the sculpting tools or created much game content but I believe you should be able to get the same results as in landmark.

I played landmark for a bit and I was initially very excited about the building tools (even though I had no skills) but it lack enough actual game mechanics to make it hold my attention.

edit: I am a developer, I have played around with game tools like unity and I read the SIGGRAPH white paper on dual contorting. As I understand it you should be able to do almost anything with the right tools, the only limit is the voxel resolution which I think is slightly bigger than landmark.

edit2: According to this the voxels are the same as landmark: http://landmark.wikia.com/wiki/Voxel

well first let me introduce myself my name is the flying jackass (eltaradovolador in english) and my goal is to make a pirate organization and i have just to codes that if broken will be punished by death
NEVER KILL YOUR COMRADES and WE SHALL NEVER STEAL FROM THE POOR AND DEFENSELESS
so where do we get the money you may ask, from evil tyrants empires or any self proclaimed "good" organization while we defend the poor people or anyone in aid we shall be there to help
Right now i'm looking for all kinds of players be it pvpers, miners, farmers, builders, scientist and conquerors

so for rpers i got a guild backstory because i also want this organization to have some rp
i wake up from a long slumber of the cold hard ground thinking about what had my village done wrong to deserve being enslaved and before i knew it i heard a big bang of an explosions nearby our enslavement camp.
we were under attack of pirates but why would they attack our village if we had nothing of value, did they just want to end our lives, that's when i realized this wasn't your ordinary pirates they were blue sky pirates who protect the poor from evil tyrants so i grabbed my gun and started helping them with the attack, killing off many bad jailers and soldiers and at that time i meet one of the captains and fought along side him but i couldn't save him from being shot in the back and just when i had lost hope of him and the liberation of my people, more reinforcements came into the battlefield and finished off all remaining forces.
after the battle was over i asked if i could join the sky pirates and they allowed me in.
    this is my story.
hope i could make a good rp of a kid joining us
leave a message down below if you have any questions and also leave some opinions about how i should continue building this band of pirates or have some helpful comment leave it down below, if you want to join send me a message to and who knows maybe we'll even have a discord sometime so off i go into the wild universe

Atmosph3rik got a reaction from Qddiez in Is scamming going to be a thing?
I definitely don't think scamming should simply be allowed.

I'm not exactly sure what we are defining as scamming here.  But in most of the games i have played scammers almost always take advantage of design flaws, like items having similar names or similar icons.  Or even just taking advantage of unavoidable aspects of games like pvp invulnerability areas or being able to log out of the game.

There's nothing realistic about someone pulling a bait and switch on you and then vanishing into thin air.  And being able to start new characters or change names easily means there's no danger of gaining the reputation of a scammer.

Being a Conman in a game might sound cool on paper, but when the actual act depends entirely on praying on confused new players.  That doesn't sound good to me at all.

The idea of players being able to match wits somehow in the game sounds great.  But it should be done in a way where everyone understands the rules and the stakes of what they're getting into.

I'm not saying it will be exactly the same as Landmark, but the tools showcased both in the devblog and the gameplay video are very similar. Having experience using the tools in Landmark will surely benefit you going into Dual Universe, even if they aren't exactly the same.
