Atmosph3rik reacted to Leniver in Export your ship into an OBJ file
    Hello,

What about having a possibility to export our ship as OBJ file.

There is a lot of application with that:
we could include that to DU Creator so customer could see the ship in 3D. we could 3d print etc...
What do you think about that?

The same thing they should be doing automatically already.

Check to see when the owner of the construct was last in game.  If it's been long enough, maybe send out some kind of email informing them of what is about to happen, and what they can do to stop it, or what if anything will be recoverable if they don't do anything to stop it.

If they miss the email, and they do eventually come back to the game, they might be unhappy.

But as they saying goes "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush"

Until the full system is in place, and all the rules are laid out, i don't think they should be deleting anything or allowing it to be salvaged.  For now they should just remove the constructs and leave magic blueprints in their inventory.

also....STARBASE....is just another Space Engineers/Empyrion clone, no VOXEL BUILDING, so nope....I'll go play Empyrion if I want that experience. As it stands, THIS IS THE ONLY DANCE IN TOWN.....this is the only voxel game out there (perhaps we should be encouraging game companies to make more voxel games, because....you know....Minecraft was a pretty popular game....

Atmosph3rik reacted to Leniver in LENI tips of the week: How to delete your broken token keys
    Hello everyone,

Anyone who uses tokens certainly has a few broken ones in their inventory.
And you were certainly like me very disappointed not to be able to delete them.

Here is the solution to get rid of these broken tokens.

    You need:
Surrogate VR station Surrogate Pod Station Container (any size)

And here's how to do it:
Put all broken tokens in the container Connect to your pod using the pod station Move the tokens in your nanopack Exit the VR by accepting that the items in your nanopack are deleted.
      And that's it.

I hope it will help you.

I wonder sometimes if we as a community, or just me, could have somehow done more, to show the money people, what an incredible game Landmark was.  If maybe we had done more they would have gotten it.  I dunno.

I wish everyone here would try to keep in mind, that this is a completely unproven idea.  The sure shot would have been to make a fortenite clone in space.  Maybe a zombie shooter battle royal ?

It's up to us to help prove that this is a good idea.  And picking it apart while it's half finished and shitting all over it, isn't helping.

I think the bad decisions that NQ makes, are due to a lack of faith in the project, by the marketing and money people.  Apparently their job is to sell the game to anyone and everyone as fast as possible, whether they like it or not.  And it's up to the devs to somehow catch up, if they can.

I guess the question is, do we want to help, or just throw shit from the sidelines and point out the obvious mistakes.

So all I've seen is people bitching in forums, bitching in Discord...about the status of the game....and hey, if you're not having fun, bitching about stuff is not very useful, so......use your 'IMAGINATION'!!! You have a building game, where you can build anything you want....so build a giant middle finger L core ship if you're mad, huge tile sized billboards, giant ass to moon the planet with, get creative! This can all be done in game, and you can have fun doing it, instead of bitching.GO BUILD SOMETHING....and express yourself. Remember you have Reddit, Twitter, Forums, Discord....all to post screens of your 'PROTEST' so go get creative, because the bitching is monotonous and boring!

For some ridiculous reason the game rounds the amounts down to the nearest 1L.

So if it looks like you have exactly enough of something.  Like it says it requires 10L and you only have 10L.  You might actually need 10.2L or something like that.

Atmosph3rik reacted to ELX987 in Instant warp with 100% safety is bad for DU
for once i have to say that a thread is driving away from real problems, this is a prime example and here is why this thread irritates me:

    1. warp is fine, is semi balanced, and is a working system as well as an essential one. there is no point to nerfing/buffing the mechanics of warp, period.

    2. warp cell costs are not in any way unbalanced and also create a nice sink for the economy, besides no one really warps heavy haulers around unless they get caught, which is a reward for being smart about your hauling.

    3. removing the ability to warp withought a player beacon would kill gameplay for many people, as well as make things unnecessarily difficult.

its hypocritical that the community pushes for NQ to reverse the scehmatics, which were not needed at all, and then asking for stuff like this.
let NQ just fix the exploit that is an issue, and let it be, warp is fine and there is no need to create problems that didnt exist.

The "voxel to mesh" thing that NQ implemented was an idea that was only whispered about like some kind of mythical unicorn by the Landmark devs.

I have no idea who deserves credit for it, but it was something pretty incredible whoever figured it out.

The voxel tech was originally designed for building landscapes and terrain.  The whole purpose of it, as far as i know, is that voxels can be edited up close, and then simplified when they're viewed at a distance.  The problem is that spaceships don't look great when they're "simplified".  So dual contouring is what was causing the "voxel blob" issue.  It wasn't the solution.

The fact that the whole voxel system wasn't even designed to be used this way (building things in detail) is something that the Landmark devs were only just beginning to wrap their heads around.

When you consider what the game looks like now, compared to what it looked like before they implemented the mesh server, it seems like a pretty big deal to me.

That's a pretty naive thing for another game dev to say.

It's easy to sit back and look at what someone else has done, and think you could do better.

Usually someone in the same industry would have enough perspective not to do it so casually.

Their game better be a shining beacon of perfection when it comes out, otherwise i'm going to be laughing at them.

Probably old news for some (more informed and omnipresent) people, but was initialy quite a suprise for me...

Likely all devs discuss each other games in private and sometimes not in most prettiest ways, but public statements like this, while DU on hard spot, felt to me kinda wrong, even sparked some strange patriotic feelings, considering I'm usualy on very harsh critic side myself. Chris Roberts (being totaly not saint in many other regards) showed back then "space nerds solidarity" in critical moment of DU KS, yet for some reason FrozenByte prefering to do somewhat reverse thing.

Maybe to appease some of our grumpy refugees?

Not to drag this off topic but I think this is what a lot of us, especially kickstarters have started to loose sight of.

When I plonked my fifteen freedom bucks down it was like a convergence of everything I wanted that I didn't know I wanted to begin with. Now, years later, I see all these other games that have picked up steam and powered on by while DU seems stuck in dev hell. Sure things are coming out, but I don't feel the same excitement as I did in early pre-alpha. Now we're in that one phase where an update didn't come out for a couple months then before we knew it A1 had arrived and things were rolling.

Maybe that's why beta isn't proving nearly as exciting as I thought it'd be. Probably all the bug fixing that's going on, I wonder how much better things are than when beta started. Maybe that's why the end of PA was so long. Stuff like this takes time and while it seems like we're going nowhere, we're only players seeing the surface of what's happening.

For now, color me skeptically optimistic.

Atmosph3rik reacted to Leniver in LENI tips of the week: How to create a core blueprint with all handling
    Hello to everyone,

I decided to make this post so people know how create a core blueprint and being sure that all the handling will be applied.
The handling on a core blueprint is a bit weird, it seems NQ doesn't have test every case.

The blueprint system is separated in 2 different kind of blueprint:
"Core blueprint": it's a schema that will allow you to create "single time blueprint" "Blueprint": it's a single time use blueprint
How the handling works when placing down a blueprint?
When you create a blueprint from a core blueprint it takes the skill saved on the core blueprint.
If the player that place the ship has higher skill, he will apply the player skills.
If the player that place the ship has lower skill, he will apply blueprint skills.

How the handling works when creating a core blueprint?
When you create a core blueprint the handling skills are not saved correctly.
If the player that create the core blueprint has any handling skills, the handling is reset (It's the bug!)
If the player that create the core blueprint has no handling skills, the handling skills are saved in the core blueprint.

    The tips:
To be sure that the handling skills are saved in the core blueprint you need to have a character without skills.
To make that, thanks to NQ that remove all the skills through VR, you need to use a VR station and create the core blueprint in VR.

    Example of setup:
1 container 1 Surrogate VR station 1 Surrogate Pod Station
Put down the container, surrogate station and the surrogate pod.
Set a name for the surrogate pod and activate it. (wait ~5 minute that the surrogate pod is registred by NQ)
Use the surrogate station and search for the name you have entered.
Once you are in VR, go in build mod on your construct and create a core blueprint.
Put the core blueprint in the container (so you don't loose it when exiting the VR)
Exit the VR and you are done.

I hope it will help you.

Real life "rules" aka "laws" work the exact same way. Nobody comes to knock on your door and notify you that the way you are stealing cable from your neighbors is illegal.

NQ tends to overlook infractions to a much greater degree than in real life, where ignorance of the law is no excuse at all.

Bottom line, with or without a specific rule, any player should be able to tell the difference between an exploit and a feature with ease. Assume the use of any exploit will be punished and you don't need to keep track of forum posts. It is pretty helpful to look these over however, as there are some things not working as intended that are not being punished.
