Very cool artwork. So is this part of the Space Ark Alliance? And is that group part of Cinderfall Syndicate?

From a kickstarter comment: "Yes, there will be a symmetry tool for voxel building. It's one remaining in the pipeline with the copy/paste tool"

And: "If you're refering to Voxel Building (and not crafting) then yes a Mirror/Symmetry Plane tool is planned."

Atlas5 got a reaction from KadaFF in Windows or a way to making voxels transparent
I was thinking about creating orbital stations and buildings with cut out spots which would be windows. But I don't think there is windows in this game, at least not yet. I think its silly to create a city with walls and defenses when we can't even create a closed and secure building or base. I know they were talking about creating useable doors, but what about windows.

If they do maybe it would be cool to create a painting tool or color picker with the option of making the selected voxel clear. This way you can see through it but not walk through it.

What does everyone think about this?

    Should they give us windows?

a core unit just gives ownership of a construct i think. A Territory Unit gives ownership of an area so you could have the city anywhere but you wouldn't really own the area around the city itself just the actual construct

Atlas5 reacted to Anaximander in Scripts and Actions - Making city feel Alive
not really, if the range of controlling scripts is enough, the "train" can be rigged to go around in circles i na city , on a certain path (created wby setting up tracks that can be scanned and followed) with the controller being in the center of the city - the controlelr being the person that runs the scripts.

It could work, but only if "drones" are enabled as a thing in the game, which would mean controlling stuff from range, which could be limited, but since we don't know specifics on what's the size of a server instance in the cluster, we can't really determine precisely.

A train, if drones are not allowed ,would need a driver. And hey, as far as AFK money-makers go, a driver is a nice job in a video game. Go AFK, let your toon run the public trasnportation in an city. It's no different than AFK mining in EVE, or doing any other repetitive grinding quest, only you are part of the game world. And let's face it, some RP people will probably do that.

Imagine public transport that only runs if someone is in the vehicle. Wouldn't we call that person the "driver"?

Jokes aside, automating transport becomes a bit of a logistical problem if the vehicle moves only while people are in it. Maybe the answer is to employ someone to always ride the bus.

Alternatively, if one could have a vehicle on a set of rails and use a call button on either end. If it's built into the game itself, minimal scripting (if any) would be required to make a working system.

you could probably script a public transportation system, and maybe some vendors, but much more then that, i doubt it.

    Well, let me explain this.

    Scripts = automation.

    Automation 1= self driving vehicles.

Having a ship that can fly on its own, while you go afk on the wheel, yes, that's possible, it's nothing more than a macro command really.

Having a bunch of ships flying around without anyone flying them, not really. It slaps the game's vision across the face. If you made a city without having people who live in it, then... sorry, that's not how cities happen. You need people to actually have a city.

I imagine it is probably possible to some degree. The problem would be refueling the ships and the fact that scripts only run when in range of a player, so the second you walked away they would fall out of the sky. Plus, if you've got the spare resources to build automated ships and a city, then that city probably won't be empty.

Atlas5 reacted to Cavadus in What about powered armor, exoskeletons, and clothing?
While reading the devblog regarding LUA scripting I noticed that kevlar was mentioned as a building material.  This got me thinking a bit since the inclusion of a textile is pretty specific.

Will we be able to craft clothing?  Body armor?  Exoskeletons?  Powered armor?  Maybe even mechs?

This is something which we really haven't seen in any of these voxel games yet would be immensely satisfying for those of wishing to get our Tony Stark or Brotherhood of Steel on.

Thanks for your feedback Kiklix and Hylios!
About being "too convenient", let me rephrase it: Does it not seem too convenient (lore-wise) that players get a blueprint directly readable/understandable by human eyes?    I think there is also some misunderstanding about how players will be able to get blueprints in the game. The short story has focused on the strong points of Dual Universe, but doesn't describe this universe in an exhaustive way. There will be, of course, NPCs selling common stuff: basic blueprints, common resources and such. The rewards the player will get from exploring and communicating with the alien civilization will be rare and precious (you won't find this kind of stuff every 10 meters). About reward diversity, any other idea beside rare materials and blueprints?   Best regards, Nyzaltar.

"- While there could be some hidden reasons, do you consider the fact to find blueprints by this manner ok? or do you find it a bit "too convenient" (lore-wise)?"

Initially I felt it "too convenient" but we are talking about an alien civilization, 10,000 years past when the arkships left Earth. It would be hubristic for us to assume we can understand alien civilizations. Based on this, knowing that alien civilizations have tech far far beyond what we can ever imagine I don't see it as too convenient as its completely plausible.

"- For the time being, items made in kyrium are meant to be indestructible. Is it fine from your point of view? or do you think this could be an issue?"
Every game has to have some form of boundries and I assume Kyrium is a boundry (to keep players from griefing or whatever). I think it's sensible. In popular culture we often have materials that are indestructible or near indestructible, especially in comics.

"We want to make rewards earned this way very special and unique (not something that you can mine or buy to a NPC). Do you have some other ideas on the subject?"
I think rewards should be mixed. For more easily obtainable stuff I see no reason why we can't have an NPC, unless you intend for players to set up shops for bartering and trading, but even then an NPC might be nice for super common stuff. I guess it kinda depends on the reward. I think for the most part your way of offering rewards invites players to explore. So in this sense it almost seems paramount.
I do think gathering or farming or harvesting or whatever should be a part of the process. Sometimes its nice to just go out and mindlessly farm, but not to the extent that it becomes a day job. I guess essentially common raw materials should be relatively easy to find, more rare materials a bit harder and schematics, etc should be obtained by the puzzles, maybe off rare creatures. Some of this is tough to say because we are not sure how much of the world is to be player created once in game, and how much you guys want to develop or continue developing. Some other games are going down the road of everything being automated from emergent AI to player made creations etc. I am not convinced that model will work. I think the key is balance, some emergent stuff, some developer stuff. As long as you guys can stay in control and steer the game in the proper direction based on your vision, I think its all good.
