I do not get this post at all as it really does nothing as far as answering any of the questions. It is a PR/marketing answer which really does not help at all. As NQ plans to release the game in a few months, it would be _really_ bad if NQ has not yet made this decision and is working towards release with that choice in mind.

It also makes things more convoluted and complex as in reality NQ has only two options:

    No wipe
Not the prefrred option for me for most of the reasons explained in the post and in general I believe it woudl hurt the game long run and cretainly at  release.
But I could live with  it if it happened

    Partial wipe
Players get to keep blueprints and accrued points are retunred to the talent pool, world is wiped
This I prefer to happen, it maintains the benefit for existing players in tha tey wil be able to jumpstart a new world with their tal;ents to be reassigtned as wanted
It also allows players who used beta accounts to change their choices if the wipe happens shortly before release.

A full wipe wil not be an option as NQ has charges people to play and taking away that time by removing any benefits from that woudl be at best unethical. A parallel server is just a very, very silly idea as NQ hardly has the resources to afford one cluster, let alone two

    Most important PRO's missed...

Hundreds of paid accounts no longer paying.  Less money for NQ
Empty worlds with no constructs... sounds fun.
Many existing players offer help to new players in financial and advice... gone.

Not sure being jelly of others is any reason to wipe.

Today it is missions, yesterday it was schematics, last year it was mega nodes, in the NDA days it was REDACTED... In two years from now there will be another long list of things people did to push an advantage to the max.

I hope people stop trying to think they can win at game that has no win condition and just play and have fun.

Maybe you are one of the few that likes these small cross-section M cores ships to stomp everything and everyone but me, not the only one advocating for a change. The fact is we miss multicrew ships. Also, fact is the current meta makes ship look like the Dogshit you always bring up. That Weapons are ridiculous large doesn't help it.

NQ we built these big multicrew ships we had much fun with. Then came shields and ccs smaller weapons got buffed and then these ships became obsolete.
Mass to speed is just the final nail in the coffin for Ships that are anyway now just Museum pieces.
Real balance means for me that shields would bleed DMG and a portion of DPS gets past shield at all times so this would force people to build with voxels and not too small,
so your speed changes would have an impact.
As it stands now it would only impact Haulers. Once Aphelia missions for 3 hours now how long will it take?
I also support the idea of ships shields being size locked to have ship classes.

I get your idea, but it is a punch in the face regarding to weapon sizes, which causes further problems.
Weapon sizes are restricted to their counterpart core size. Thats what we have right now

    I get the point:
Large weapons higher base dmg and more range Medium weapon doesnt reach the values of L core weapon.  (I think we can agree on that)
On the otherside we do have model/texture size
So smaller a weapon gets, so smaller their model
The benefit of a M-core is a smaller cross-section which means that a L-Core with his L-weapon does have problems with the hitchance. THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT
A L-Core ship have to fight against M-Ship with a smaller cross-section, results in a small hit chance + 20 mio shield points A M-core ship have to fight against a L-Ship with a bigger cross-section, results in a better hit chance + 20 mio shield points Btw medium precision railguns does have a pretty range and a decent dmg too.

The advantages of an m-core currently outweigh those of an L-core. This is something I am not happy about.

If a full wipe does happen, I'm gone.

I have relied on the fact that NQ has said that a wipe is only the last resort.

So I have invested as much time as I could in the last months, procured Quantas and Blueprints. Other players were creative and spent months building their buildings/ships.
I don't give a shit about the players who have enriched themselves in some illegalway, but why should the community suffer?

The market can still be brought in order, only need is a consumption here (except fuel).  Be it about the elements that break down, factories that lose efficiency or the like. Also, you could insert a Recykler, where you get a small l share of ore in return from broken parts.

It's nice that there should be an Aphelia Space market, I would much rather see player markets, where you can log in from your location.

    Just my 2 cents

Yes, if I didn't know better I'd start thinking that whoever wrote that doesn't really understand the way PvP is actually done.  Nobody really uses armoured ships very much now because of the core stress change.  It certainly isn't relied on as armour the way it used to be.  It will mean an end to the slowly escalating 'put more XL rare space engines on it' meta and that's a good thing but I think most PvP ships will probably still weigh aroud the same as each other (somewhere around the 0.8-2kt mark) so they'll probably have similar top speeds anyway.  As you say, the real losers here are going to be the non-pvp ships running ore between planets (or whatever) who were fairly easy to hunt before and will now be ridiculously easy because they'll be so much slower than the ships hunting them.  So it's just making easy kills easier IMO.

I think it would have been much more interesting to go the other way, so high mass gives a higher top speed at the cost of reduced acceleration (particularly at the higher speeds).  Then there are some real costs, tradeoffs and tactics to balance against each other rather than 'lighter is always better'.  Do you want to be able to maneuver/accelerate or to be able to go faster in a straight line?

That would mean that large haulers, for example, could outrun pirates if they're lucky but if someone gets them with a stasis shot they can slow them down and then they're caught.  Also if you get someone's vector then they'll be easier to catch as with reduced braking and acceleration it would be more difficult for the prey to change vector without slowing down and being caught.

I'm sorry, but using the word "wipe" and then not giving us any information at all has literally left me not even wanting to play this game because I don't even know if I should even bother building anything.

Can you expand on this comment you said

"Big armored ships with powerful space engines"

What do you mean by that exactly?  What scenarios are you talking about?  The PvP ships that most people are using now have no armor and only shield.  or do you mean the haulers?

-> Something i would add to the changes
The max. size of a shield generator should be matching the actual core size.
Shield Generator L on Dynamic Core L only Shield Generator M on Dynamic Core M only etc..

This all sounds very cool and interesting. I'm curious to how the alien cores will work and the space map.

    One question though.
With the big ships being slower than smaller ships, how will L war ships still be viable now that smaller ships can also have an L shield? Sounds like they will only be usefull in a defensive situation.

Walter reacted to Taelessael in Weapon limitation on ships
NQ has been reducing the effectiveness of defense for a while now, too much defense makes the pvp-side of the game run irritatingly slow (hour long 1v1 cubes...) while also bogging the server down with all the data it needs to pass around during fleet engagements. Where they are right now isn't bad, but it would be nice if there was some variation (heat, power, e-war, shield-variants, shield skills).

That said, the number of weapons on a ship is the result of a few skills and how many gunners the ship has available, and capping that arbitrarily isn't going to solve your problem. An arbitrary cap on total weapons on a ship is going to annoy the pvp players, push people toward solo-play in an mmo, and get you shot at with whatever the new "best" is by the same number of people spread across that many more ships.

If you are having problems with pirates, make some friends that can keep an eye out, or hire an escourt, or build a ship around the speed and defense you need to escape, or just outsmart them.

The problem is the opposite, MU product too much ore.
