Moosegun reacted to Bobbylord in Salvaging - Nerfed as a casualty or by intention?
    Hey everybody!

This post is about the sad state of the "Scavenging" "Profession" in DU currently - resulting from the gimped status of salvaging gameplay. Even though not documented, salvaging gameplay changed drastically in the last few days/couple weeks. While we, the players exploring and salvaging crashed ships and left alone static cores, were able to make somewhat of a living from exploring and salvaging until about a couple weeks ago, now, with the undocumented and unannounced changes to salvaging gameplay, we are no longer able to sustain this lifestyle.

Previously, when a gold digger on Lacobus overloaded their ship and crashed back down on the planet trying to make their way out of the atmosphere, we were able to benefit from that. We were able to find, locate and salvage the ship as well as reap in the rewards. Now though, there is neither a risk for ignorant players overloading their ships or carelessly flying and crashing into everything anymore. We cannot claim cores anymore that were destroyed (only in the sad, completely avoidable, tiny bit of pvp space we have left) - only cores that were abandoned by the owner by intention.

Here's the story unfolding pieced together from the DU Discord (just search for salvaging and get an impression of the confusion and frustration due to these unannounced and undocumented changes) :

Scavenging used to be a viable way of living. And a nice way to combine flying, exploring and making some money to pay for the fuel and upkeep. We are now forced into digging in mines underground instead of flying about and exploring this world you created for us to explore and conquer.

I'd like to end this post with a proposal and at the same time ask for feedback from the fellow DU player base:
Constructs which core get destroyed should be salvageable by anybody in general (on planets/moons and in space) - with the only exceptions being: On Sanctuary - cause it's the "safe zone" by definition and a place were no bad things should ever happen to you Within the wider "safe zone" (as announced by JC in recent interviews) - namely Alioth, Thades and Madis - but only on market tiles or your own/your org tiles - your destroyed construct should be salvageable by anybody on tiles of others (not yours or your orgs) and unclaimed tiles
There should be no need for the owner to abandon a destroyed core/construct in order to make it salvageable by others taking above proposal into account. This mechanic takes scavenging/salvaging out of the game as a "profession". It takes the primarily reason to play the game away from me and a whole lot of others.

"Please fix" - as they say....

    Best regards - former scavenger,
    Bobbylord

I agree they are 100% down to the parties that agree to them, but the RDMS comes into play when it is combined with whatever system comes in to control relationships betweens orgs / factions and players.  For example, if the law states that is anyone damages the property of a citizen living under those laws then the RDMS and relationship management can automatically update, adding to enemies list or restricting access to market terminals etc.  This could even be linked into radars or security systems, where information off security breaches would be shared across networks until those security units are destroyed.  I just want the tool to implement law and order, I dont want NQ to implement it for us.

I think this is meant to be the 'difficult early period' in DU civilisation building.

The periods/eons of Dual Universe will look something like this, or at least NQ should expect this.

Eon 1: Wild West.  No law anywhere, micropolities with no real power,   no one is safe anywhere. Claims are staked.

Eon 2: The law comes to Dodge City. Small polities.  Small pockets of planets or space become policed, often by "poachers turned gamekeepers'.  Still lawless outside 'Dodge' but punitive raids may occur.

Eon 3: Tortuga. Medium sized and large polities.  Most places are lawful now, with only notable badlands where no one can hold for long or disputed lands where law is 'flexible'.

Eon 4: Space Sweden.  Huge Polities.  Law strong everywhere.  Criminal gangs are small and live in the walls or on the constant move, to avoid constant surveillance and pursuit.  At this stage the game needs to open up new territories to reset part of space to Eon 1/2.

    ....

Once you see this you can understand that criminality and violence is meant to be the driver towards making an organic creation of a lawful state.

You will eventually be safe everywhere.

This makes the artificial positioning of the game straight into Eon 2 or Eon 3 with over large safe zones a thin gruel.

It will also artificialise corp warfare into "we violently disagree, lets settle this 2500 su away"  because fake safe zones also means fake danger zones.

For a lot of us, Eon 1 or 2 is what excites us.  I can understand other people preferring Eons 3 or 4, but please dont ask NQ to takes us there too quickly.

You can come in at an angle, infact that is optimal in a heavy ship, but you need to keep your forward momentum up, if you just use brakes to slow you down and keep you below speed limit, then you completely loose all momentum, so whilst your ship is angled you are actually travelling straight down. I keep momentum up by dropping to around 1000kmh and then going full brakes and sufficient power to hold speed steady (80% in most of my ships), as I come into atmos I let the speed increase up, so I have plenty of forward momentum as soon as i break atmos.  That stops you dropping like a stone, using the third trajectory line is very useful for this method.

Think you need to lie down, losing a fellow exploiter, must be tough for you, dont worry, it will pass.

For what it is worth I am still loving the game, not even had to look at the ToS though, it doesnt bother the players that dont look to cheat (sorry, push the bounderies)

    Hey folks,

I've just been a bit trigger happy and hid the nice words about moderation being trigger happy and staff's life quality insults. Just as a reminder: if people want to report me or any other moderator and do so here on the forums, it's rather apparent they haven't read the rules or forgot about them.

Regarding the attack by @carijay766 on @Moosegun as well as the following engagement I've decided to close this thread since it's too much trouble to clean up and apart from pointless fighting I don't think there's anything of value here anyways. In case you disagree: please see above.

Lets make one thing clear here, it is YOU that is posting this in a completely irrelevant thread, it is you that is ranting and hyjacking, noone else.

Clearly the guy who did it knew he was doing something which could result in a ban, otherwise he wouldnt have posted a bloody big sign.   Weird that you seem to think it is not a problem, when the person who did it, clearly accepted it was.

    No...

It is one thing to discover a bug like that and report it.  Even going as far as to put a small change to the structure.  But removing most of the structure then posting it all over Reddit with snide remarks and mocking NQ.  That is what got them banned.

If anything the devs were quite adult about their response.  Harsh, but adult.

This is prime example of bone head moves by players.  You know what you are doing is wrong, yet keep doing it, then when you realize you will get in trouble for it you ask not to be banned.  That is like taking the wheels off of a cop car and asking to not go to jail for vandalism and theft.

otherwise we would see 1000s of projects like this.
I am in since 2018 (really?) and do not miss the times when I only could play from thursday to sunday with weeks of no game...
I use this more often as netflix, and, you know what? netflix is twice as expensive. And I can make my own drama..

Going to post this as politely as I can but the support giveaways are a COMPLETE JOKE.  50% of people are lying, this is obvious because they say things like:

"I crashed when coming into atmosphere, logged back in and my ship was destroyed" - bullshit, you crash your ships stops what they actually means is "I have a really heavy ship, I crashed the game coming into atmosphere because i couldnt slow down, logged back in with zero momentum and my massively overweight ship fell like a rock"

"I just died on XXXXX insert planet and have magically teleported to Ailoth, can you port me back" = I was mining and tried to use the force respawn to cheese back to my ship, but didnt check my node before I used this soft exploit

This is causing a LOAD of problems, firstly you are completely shielding these new players from any survival elements of the game, experienced players know to fly with good scrap and extra fuel.  New players arent learning these lessons because when they make mistakes (and most ARE player mistakes) they get freebies.

The worst part about all this is that they are making a huge section of gameplay / career paths completely redundant.  In alpha there were loads of players planning to set up as repair / refuel crew or taxi services, I have reached out to several of these to see how business is and there ISNT ANY.  The game has limited career paths as it is (without really knowing the game) these are some of the more obvious ones and you are making them irrelevant.  The longer this goes on the worse it will get.

My solution - send out an email saying that the daily quanta is being continued but it is being called BETA SUPPORT INCOME, it is paid to ensure players have funds in case of emergency.  You then reach out to verified support services orgs and bring them into support via some additional channel, where you can send people who need there services.

This needs to be done soon, as you are making a massive rod for your own back by giving this crutch to new players (although seen several vets abusing it too).

There has been at least one post on this forum complaining about how people are receiving freebies because they "lost" their ship or it got destroyed. My solution to this problem is to launch an insurance company.

The idea would be that you would insurance your ship for a week at a time, with a flat rate of 15% of the ships total value for the week but the rate can be affected by:
    - If you've bought insurance for a month or longer and have not destroyed your ship.
    - If you're ship is made up of durable materials and is equipped with weapons.
    - If you've read a guide on how to safely fly and use a ship and past a test.
    - If you're ship is particularly cheap or expensive.
    - Whether you regular visit dangerous areas.
    -Etc.

If you do end up crashing your ship, the amount of pay is based on:
    - 100% Repayment If you can provide solid, unshakable evidence that it was out of your control and was not staged.
    - 75% Repayment if the destruction was due to Human error or the pilot may have been able to prevent it or if the evidence has minor issues.
    - 50% Repayment if the evidence is fairly solid, but has several minor issues and concerns.
-25% Repayment if the evidence is pretty minimal or and there inconclusive evidence that it was faked or forged.
-0% Repayment if clear proof it was faked or forged.

There would be a similar concept for cargo, but instead of insuring the whole cargo, the cargo would be insurance based on one or several resources, so it was an oil tanker, it would be insured on the oil it was carrying
but not on carrying something like components. Again this would be a weekly thing and be based on 15% of the total value of the declared items. There would be a similar repayment system to ships.

The insurance companies could be protected by one of the major organizations such as the Empire, as if someone tries to scam the insurance company of money they could be declared a criminal by the organisation, making it a risky option to try and get money out of them.

No, I think it is solid gameplay, once the safe zone is removed I hope they bring it back.  NQ see it differently, i am cool with that.

Would I ever do it, no, of course not I am trader industrialist, that avoids pvp.  But I want it in the game, I want people to be able to steal the stuff of people who are careless.  I have never left a single ship of mine on anyone else's or an unclaimed tile, because i look after my stuff.  I get it, some other people want the game to look after them, I am fine thanks.
