Squidrew_ reacted to Hirnsausen in Glass Panels now MERGING
Here is a suggestion that can - to some extend - substitute for the Transparent Glass Honeycombs:

The existing Glass Panels should be able to merge with each other.
Means, you can place them now without them blocking each other, so they can go into each other and would do that seamlessly, means, without visible edges. This way, we gamers an build a flat transparent glass wall that can have almost any shape.

And when placed following a curve (see picture below, top of the cockpit), they also would close gaps seamlessly.

The total weight of those glass walls is not calculated by amount and size of individual panels, but from the shape and volume of the glass wall (less than all panel weight as merged areas compute only 1x).

DU is becoming the opposite of the game we were promised in Kickstarter.

Anyone who backed this game before Beta knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Whatever the devs say is, and will always be, subject to change. This is an immutable fact brought about by the nature of game development and no amount of whining will change that. The more the playerbase insists that NQ honor each and every spoken word, then the more careful NQ will be, leading to far fewer and less detailed communications. The roadmap serves as the traditional middle ground to this delicate dynamic. We get to know where the ship is headed but the captain still has flexibility to decide how to get us there. I believe the reason players are crying mutiny is in large part because this critical piece of information has become outdated.

PS: If you wish to debate this further please consider sending me a DM on the forums. This could be Megabosslord’s last post and I would prefer to see it filled with words of support from the community.

It is always sad to see these posts. While things have drastically improved, it is true that the development process can be very hard for players. In the very early days I saw many get frustrated by bugs and leave. The ones who stayed, the ones who put up with those hardships, those dark days, did so because they saw the sun on the horizon. We are now reaching the end of the current roadmap and it has once again become harder to see the future (even for the devs). Many will get frustrated precisely because they don’t know what comes next, they don’t understand why some changes are being made, or when to expect their desired feature. That fear of the unknown is real but help is coming.

The decision is yours, but if you can, I encourage you to hang in there a little longer. If not, then I thank you for everything you have done for this community and wish you all the best.

100% agree. At the very least, I'd say reduce the brightness to a fraction of what it is now, and maybe reduce the amount of rocks as well. They're so abundant it shouldn't matter if the spawn rate was limited to, say, 1/3rd for example.

They also lessen diversity and uniqueness among planets and moons in my opinion, as having such a large portion of the area around you be covered with these rocks makes all the planets feel just that little bit more the same.

    Hello everyone,

To be very clear, this is not the right place to report constructs.
We have a new in-game reporting feature which you can use to simply right-click on a construct and report it, that goes directly to the GM's.

I hope this clear this up.

Get ready for my rant.... 3.. 2.. 1..

Hi there, I am wondering if the community has changed.
From artistic builders to people who only want to make money or destroy things.

I see a lot of chatting going around, it only is about how much money you can make with the new mining units. Nobody talks about a building project or anything. New players come into this game and I only see them chat about how to make quanta. Its all about which tile brings in the most quanta, not even if it has a great view, a nice river or anything. They might as well just have flat surface planets because people dont seem to care. I have NEVER seen anyone chat about how this unlimited ore can help you with your giant build project.

Its all about quanta, quanta, quanta. People who are making billions, and for what, retirement?
This is a voxelbuilding game with superior voxel-tools and lots of players are only talking about how to make quanta.
And what will they do with all that quanta? Nobody knows
With all this unlimited free ore, sanct should be looking like coresant in a few months, but Im sure that will not be the case. People will only sell ore, it is not meant for building anymore.

Talking about making money so much, that NQ is even considering a wipe now, and lots of peeps are like: no biggie, as long as i can keep my bp's (and with bp's, they mean a bp for a hauler to make money). NQ can consider a wipe, because the majority dont seem to care about builds.
In that perspective, NQ was right to implement taxes. If that is what the majority of the community wants to do (make money), then NQ has given those players a purpose.

And this is a voxelBUILDING game, so whats this complaining about PVP? Why do people enter a building game, only wanting to destroy things?
Because it is not about building or design, its about assembling the most powerful destroyer possible. Not even the best looking or anything, just to be useful and destroy as much possible.

And that is, for me, the reason I cancelled my sub. Not just because of how demeter or NQ changed the game, but also because I do not feel at home between these money grabbers and destroyers. This is just not my kind of game anymore. Im sure that if I come back and take a peek after 8 months or so, there are less builds then there are now! And thats a very amazing trick that NQ has pulled of in a persistent voxelbuilding universe!!

No offence to anyone, we are all different people.

Squidrew_ reacted to Xennial in So, the latest on a partial wipe
Any reasonable person not emotionally attached at the hip to their 'digital stuff' recognized there is a glaring need for a wipe of some sort at least at release. The idea that they would convince new players to start at the bottom when the world is already full of people with gaggles of junk on all the good ore spots from easy mode beta days is laughable. Ideally they would wipe everything, give the Beta players back their talent points as a thank you, and then reshuffle ore distribution so people can't just go right back and camp the best spots with Beta knowledge.

Regardless, the one thing we can all be assured of is that NQ will still not understand that ore bots are the root of economic evil in this game. Nor will they recognize the need for properly searchable player markets.

This is the reality, majority who say they will quit on a wipe wont actually quit.  Some will, but they will be a minority.  And the publicity for NQ to get more content and even TW in then advertise a clean slate for release has way more upside for them to make money, and try to plan a future.  May or may not be a good future depending on their upcoming patches, but a wipe probably gives them the best chance.

I certainly think that if NQ gets their business in order and delivers a good series of updates in 2022, doing a wipe shortly before moving to "release" really is just a good business decision all around as it wil erase all of the pain for the false start JC caused with his panic moves last year.

Some will hate it, most who say they will leave won't and many who put the game on the back burnrner will come back and give the game another shot.

I do think that the wipe will need to come with the end of beta key access though, so that would put it very close to "release". NQ could then also offer a "pre-release" sub which will run for say a month prior to release. All sorts of options for them there but the first hting they need to do is get the ship sailing again and away from the cliffs they are at now.

I like immersion.  DU's asthetic is supposed to be scifi but more on the side of realism.  The glowing rocks simply arn't realistic.  Now there are certain rocks that do glow under certain lights but not nearly to the extent depicted in DU

Idea: These rocks should look like normal rocks except when you have the harvest tool equipped then it they look like this.  This makes them easy to find when you want to harvest but doesnt look terrible when you don't.

Ore Pools are way off it seems for outer planets. Consider we can run multi scanners popping off 19 scanners every 20 minutes or so so scanning a hundred tiles is not unfeasible for an evening. As a result planets that had t2/t3/t4 are readily apparent as no longer producing, even following the "hot spot" and heat map methods of searching.

Ore's are supposed to be more prolifant the further away from Alioth by original design. Now there is no encouragement to populate further nor build fantastic structures, player made markets.

Will you resort the ore pools. Is Are some planets like Locobus supposed to have a 200 ore pool limit? It seems off. It is problematic not to be able to afford warp cells or fuel to start production for this created problem and no new player would be enticed to leave Alioth and Sanctuary with the current implementation.

We need to know ASAP so that we can realistically pick and place our MU's with proper supply chain logistics in mind. Currently ore availability on some locations completely invalidates even having a outpost at that location. Is it good to pull the rug from under the player base more with unknowing?

I'm so glad I'm not alone in this!

I hope that someone from NQ at least reads this. And if they do, I'd love it if they replied just to let us know where they're at. I know that this is probably a minor change in the grand scheme of things, but since the engine supported this type of lighting at some point, I don't think it would be too challenging to revert it, at least internally to try it out.

We're all human, and these simple artistic changes can make a massive impact on players, far larger than one might expect. I truly believe you guys would attract more players from this. The world you're creating is meant to be emergent in its nature, with no set form, for the players to define, and to hold as diverse of a playerbase as possible. In theory, you'd want a skybox that compliments that — one that is beautiful and compliments any scenery (because it's black and realistic). Yet, as it is like a blank canvas and is open to interpretation, it doesn't push for any specific style, leaving a more organic and natural style the universe and its planets emergently develop if that makes any sense. Plus, it would draw in those who look for realism in games.

I think this skybox would compliment any scene, enhance immersion, be consistent with Dual Universe's vision and wouldn't even affect gameplay. I think it's one of those things that a lot of people want, but never actually ask for because it's purely aesthetic, so NQ never really knows the community wants it in the first place.

Squidrew_ got a reaction from Metsys in Why I think the nebula should be removed
I believe that the nebula skybox should be replaced with a realistic, dark and starry skybox, akin to the old one prior to Alpha 3. Here are my arguments,

The nebula was originally introduced as an immersive way to increase ambient lighting in Dual Universe, making it easier to see at night. This is mentioned in NQ's Dev Diary on YouTube. However, this was nullified in 0.24 with the reduction of ambient light brightness.

This is personal preference however I believe many will agree; the ambient light level does not have to match the skybox's brightness. For example, take this image of Pre-Alpha Thades. Its dark side is heavily illuminated, as I'm sure it would look on the surface as well. You'd be able to see. Compared to current Thades, I think most of us can agree that it still looks far better, and it could be taken down a notch if it's too bright. Additionally, with the introduction of the nebula, the atmospheres were changed to the same blue color we're all used to. I'm guessing this was done as a result of a technical limitation relating to the new skybox. So, think; If I'm right about this, we could have a Thades that looks like this, for example:

    Current Thades, for comparison:

You see where I'm coming from?

The way I see it, removing the nebula would provide so much in the way of fidelity, immersion and polish. It wouldn't affect gameplay either. Furthermore, I believe this change would solve many, many of DU's lighting glitches and "rough spots," at the very least making them look far better, and would provide much more polished lighting, both on ground and on a planetary scale. I simply don't see what the nebula adds other than style, but it sacrifices fidelity in a lot of key areas. Unfortunately I don't have any screenshots to back up that claim, so you're gonna have to take my word for it as an Alpha 1 player who knows how lighting used to interact with the old skybox.

The nebula may be beautiful to some, but honestly, changing it would add so much in the way of polish — which I believe is far more important and is what this game needs right now. Not to mention, many people were dismayed at the release of this nebula, and I'm taking a wild guess by saying that most players would like this change. I know my friends and I would.

    Please consider this, Novaquark.

I also think a lot of people currently playing the game were also not around back during Alpha 2 when we had the old amazing dark skybox and no glow rocks scattered all over the surface.  It was one thing that hooked me instantly.  The "feel" was just damn good for a sci-fi space game.  Like you said, its really such a small change that would have only positive effects for the game, and the immersion.

At the very least, put it on the PTSD server so people can see.
