I jumped on to the PTS yesterday and was pleased to realise that it has the reset world in it and took me through the starting sequence again.
I've not been through that sequence since the start of the beta, and I must say I found the new version way better.
I also found myself enjoying the feeling of a fresh start - even though of course on the PTS it's only a very temporary one.
If like me you've been feeling very cynical about everything DU, I'd definitely suggest giving the PTS a go. Despite all the things that are still wrong, and all the things that could go wrong with the launch, it seems to have made me feel cautiously optimistic and surprisingly enthusiastic.

Some of the people in this forum have been dumping cash and attention onto this game since before anyone could even download the pre-Alpha client. Perhaps the "not liking" you are perceiving is frustration from losing a version of the game they did like? Or they could be a troll. I would test the latter but my supply of troll food is running low and it's a long walk back to my ship.
Did anyone ask you to be on this forum? I know I wasn't asked, though I've gotten hints that some may want to ask me to leave.

I think it would be interesting if weapon types did different base damage against shields then voxels. So for instance lasers would do amazing dmg against shields. But then do piss poor vs voxels and elements. You could still core a ship with only lasers but if they had any decent or even minimal voxel protection it would take a lot to kill. Maybe even a ship could get a vent off. Same thing reverse with cannons. Very low shield dps, but crazy insane voxel dps. Once shields go down if someone puts cannons on you in range you might be toast, even with decent voxel protection. Stuff of that nature would mean rounding out your fleets more. And how you focus targets would matter, etc.

With talk/plans to incorporate energy systems (I'll believe it when I see it) a brightness adjustment becomes considerably more complicated (and interesting).
I have seen some interesting lighting results with LUA so that may be an option if you are looking to achieve a certain visual aesthetic. If you're just wanting to be able to see it better then you could try supplementing with a luma glass "bulb" surrounded by the color you want to diffuse/reflect.

Whether you are interested in building, fighting, or just having fun, read on for details of two upcoming NQ in-game events.
BUILD YOUR LEGACY
Calling all builders! We’re organizing a building contest. From Tuesday 6th of September at 14:00 UTC to Thursday 22nd of September at 14:00 UTC, all Noveans are invited to bring their creativity and building skills to the forefront! Dispensers with elements and honeycomb will be available at a site near the Exchange.
The goal of the contest is simple: if your build meets our specifications, the best speeders and outposts could be featured in a future iteration of the FTUE!
To be selected, constructs must be either a Speeder or an Outpost.
Construct Specifications:
Speeder Requirements: constructs must feature ALL of the elements below
XS Core Unit
1x Hovercraft seat controller
3x Basic Atmo Engines XS (2 pointing backward, 1 pointing forward)
1-2x Basic Hover Engine S
1-2x Stabilizers (placed vertically)
1x Atmospheric Fuel Tank XS
1-3x Headlights
1-8x light sources (including Headlights)
Adjustors XS only
Atmospheric Airbrakes S only
Tier 1 Honeycomb materials only (+ luminescent)
Players are encouraged to add details through the use of elements, but should not get above the count of 60 elements.
Must be able to be compacted
Outpost Requirements: constructs must feature ALL of the elements below
Small core unit
1x mining unit small
2-3x elevators
Elevator screen
entrance door
1x VR station
1x Container S +2x container XS + 1x container hub
1x resurrection pod
Personal objective screen
1x Parcel Container xs
Logic Elements
Basic xs/s ship parts bundle
Floor above the ground (raised foundation, stilts)
400-700 m3 tier 1 (max 10 m3 of luminescent) tier 2 material accents tolerated.
150-300x total element count
Total commercial value can’t exceed 1,200,000 h
All required elements will be available in the dispensers near the Exchange, for free, along with honeycomb.
To be eligible for potential adding to the FTUE, it is important that your construct remains in the scope and context of our starter constructs. Such as only tier one materials and things that you would normally find in a starter construct like a starter speeder or a starter outpost.
We’ll have information soon with more details on the submitting process for your constructs!

Why is it that when I use an emote the camera flips around to show to my action in the 3d person?
Aside from being a horrendous break in immersion, the fade rate/flicker of the forced perspective transition jolts my photosensitivity. Thankfully I am not prone to seizures nor motion sickness. When/if DU gets PCVR support it is a MAJOR problem to force the player out of first person perspective as well. It is possible to have 3d person in VR if done right. It is also possible to change perspective but the player must be in control of the transition such as entering a seat for a dynamic construct.

I would love to see a personal UI LUA section/item where one can change their avatar's HUD. Then some of these talented coders would be able to compete for best avatar HUD in addition to best construct HUD.

I would be for an XXS size core. Jet packs and drones would be better represented at a scale smaller than XS.
To make drones more immersing and valuable require a player to control via a VR session or remote seat with 1st and/or 3d person view from/of the construct.

Most civilizations immediately begin to work towards ending the violence too. And the people who lose the early conflicts are dead and don't get to play anymore.
If you want hyper realism, you can't just go halfway with it. If the cost of playing the game, is that i have to PVP. Then the cost of PVP should be just as harsh and realistic. Otherwise, you just get to keep attacking me over and over until i eventually just go play something else.
It's a game, it's not a simulation.

Please please please can NQ visit the steam page and respond to people on there? This is your potential players who may buy DU asking for info. Also please do a pinned post for all newbie help videos too there? It may significantly help new people from now and release!.
Having posts about DU is a scam do not help. As much as I respond it seems so hard to make your point

The information may no longer appear on the official site but there are still archives and articles with the details. If I had to guess, a lawyer and/or a bean counter was involved somehow or in some capacity as to why the public info went poof instead of a curated archive section. I sincerely hope it was an oversight that purchase history and relevant terms are no longer attainable within one's personal account. Odds are fair that some of the founders and backers are lawyers or close friends with one, so I'm sure NQ is not intentionally hiding that.

Essentially everything except core blueprints are being reset. That includes talent training queues. You have to log on at least one time after the official launch and while you are logged in set a training plan that is at least 6 months long to take full advantage of the launch event talent point [passive earning] boosting (2x one month, 1.5x three months, and 1.25x for two months).
I see room for some confusion in the statement, and not just with pre/post activities.
I don't know the inner workings of NQ but I have noticed a significant drop off in forum participation. It is possible the post may have been at least partially motivated by a need to rebuild scuttlebutt (word of mouth, talk) about the game.
The time zones issue should be addressed (looking at you, NQ). It is understandable to fumble over dates and times when put on the spot during a live stream but it should be clear and obvious in writing by now. I would even go so far as to pre-emptively state that even if you can't start the server by XX:YY UTC due to launch day issues as long as you're trying your best and keeping us informed the majority of your (current) players will be forgiving. Most of us have witnessed the insanity of launch day issues and I know how hard it is to see the first new expansion quest giver in the mass of 1,000+ players blobbed around it.

With an existing account you probably won't have easy access to the new first time player experience. If the opening playthrough is what you want you can watch a stream/YouTube or try it with a new account much faster and easier than a support ticket to fix your current account. Since it is still a work in progress you only go through the earliest of basic game play.

There should only be two types of blowing up allowed. The game hitting critical success, and streamers kissing ground at 6k+ km/h.
Pew pew doesn't count. Being evaporated is fine.
