That’s always been my canon as well. Imagine if we didn’t migrate recently, or even AT ALL. What if the AIs simply wiped out humanity every time their attempt at creating the perfect society failed. All the wreck and ruins aren’t alien, they’re us before the most recent fall of mankind.

That way, from a lore perspective, you could begin to introduce robotic NPCs/actual factions. Those loyal to the architects of civilization, and those in the outer worlds grasping at the last semblance of autonomy.

Its such a damn good chance for quality story telling, it’s a shame they never went past the vanilla story they came up with. It COULD be retconned safely, as the opening cinematic could simply be represented as a lie we’ve been sold and not the actual nature of our existence.

Imagine being able to start the game in an outer Haven (lol mgs lol) outside the SZ and getting a darker, more conspiratorial sequence that casts doubt on aphelia. I think of it kind of like the B5 intro after the Shadow War started.

Doubt they take it that far, though.

I've definitely experienced this before, many times.  Coming in for a landing, going about 500kph, and decelerating, holding the brakes.  And without releasing the brakes, suddenly your speed starts to increase.  I've started taping the brakes when this happens, and usually they seem to kick back in a second or two later.  But sometimes that few seconds of no brakes is enough to cause a crash, or at least a rough landing.

Yes the lore makes no sense. We are humanities last hope sent to rebuild a dying civilization. But on arrival we are just giving some basic tools to survive and let lose to run around like a flock of hens. And when NQ introduced tax they pretty much gave up completely on following the lore. The last thing you do when trying to rebuild a civilization, is to tax everyone to death.

And.. who built the markets that where waiting for us when we arrived?

And so we are now in a situation where the alternative community Lore where Aphelia is an corrupted/evil AI overlord pretending to be good, makes for a MUCH more interesting and sensible explanation.

I don't care if the information was leaked or not.

Because the real problem here is being able to completely control a number of limited finite resources in a MMO, and then being able to hold them indefinitely. That is just bad design.

And being able to it in 24h or less is ridiculously bad design..

So thank <entity> we had this long beta before release, where NQ worked actively with the community to get all the kinks out.

This is probably the single best argument for keeping market bots in the game. No one's buying T1 ores, and people severely undercut the sell orders for everything else, to even their own detriment. I'm convinced the people who undercut so much have no idea what their time is actually worth.

That being said, I agree. eventually it'll take months to save up to buy a ship, or all the parts you can't make to build a ship, and even longer if you want to make all the parts. This game is a major grindfest with no real reward, and it makes me sad.

making pve easier allows more people to want to take risk into the pvp area in which they can pvp a lot more
higher risk less people want to even touch pvp space because its too risky. Its hard enough as it is without alts but they see us as progressing too fast and it being too easy for us to build up which further limits the pvp gameplay side fo things.

so overall with them wanting to slow down the economy they are slowing down the pace people overall get into pvp and making the entree and consistency in the pvp field harder.

    so we have 2 choices
either we can have a steady stream of income and constant pvp then have them add more game play pvp aspect like pvp space enemies and bosses that are strong then weaker ones you can choose to engage in pve space that give diff rewards far better in pvp space rewards

or we can limit flow of quanta into the game and slow down/limit pvp

we can either make the game fun engaging consistent and industries turning, or we can make it far less fun dreadful and make pvp space feel too risky for many
    given the limitations

We can either further expand and diversify pvp or limit it and limit the player who get into pvp

I was just looking at my Steam community list of games that I've played and there is a clear pattern.  My #1 played game at 445 hours is Robocraft.  I bring this up because I see DU's economy as breaking the PvP incentives for most.  What is the incentive for the new solo player to take the risk?  What is the incentive for the casual gamers in a loose knit org to seek out PvP gameplay?  The economy is getting in the way of the play part of the word gameplay.  I want to build ships that can challenge other builders to adapt.  I want to dabble in messing with metas, but I'm stuck doing chores to keep the millstone rolling.  What little equipment I have is far too precious to take unneeded risk with, much less to seek out combat intentionally.

Perhaps it would help to put this in someone else's perspective:

Ohh look! Just as we said the wipe did not solve anything.

And instead all we got (as predicted) was a a new 'master race' with orgs who had detailed plans learned from beta on how to maximize their efforts at release.
And they have now literately taken over the game at the expense of everyone else trying to play.

This is absolutely my thought. Rather than adjust the values to something reasonable, they just remove them? Do they always have to "solve" things in the most inconsiderate manner? I think they just killed mining, for me.

I just decided to use some DAC like a week ago, and I really didn't even want to return at all. I put most of my XP into mining units (a fair bit into piloting and surface harvesting too, before I found out they don't respawn), because that's how I made money in beta 6-8ish months ago. Now I'm wondering why tf I bothered, because I have no reasonable way to move that T1, and I only got the news they weren't coming back AFTER I set up my first 4xL MU tile. I invested everything I had made so far into that.

I'm not doing the same boring af hauling missions over and over and over, just to save up for a bigger ship to do it over even longer distances. At least with MUs, I could do what I wanted to in between calibrations, which is make cool/fun things, help with projects, or just explore/scan. Now I'm beholden to waste 90% of my game time afk in the void of space, just so I can afford to do what I REALLY want to do? I don't mind investing time into making money, as long as it there's some enjoyment in it - right now, I'm not finding either.

    I thought a little and I don't understand.
How do bots for T1 ore give "excessively" a lot of money. Where is it "too much"?
Let's take a rough look. To calibrate 7 flower tiles to the maximum on T1, you need to spend somewhere around 5 calibrations per 1 tile 1 time in 3 days. A total of 10 calibrations per week (the ideal is not always achievable and calibrations must be saved). In total, 70 calibrations are obtained per flower. As you can see, I'm not overbearing. Even if the skills are not at 5. If the skills for calibrations are pumped to the maximum, then we get one calibration in 3.5 hours. Total for the week 48 calibrations. As you can see, with one character at the maximum, even one flower cannot be held. So you need 2 characters. Moreover, they constantly carry and visit their farms every 3 days.
Right now I brought a load from one flower. I roughly got 470 kl of T1 ore.
    Let's round up to 500.
In total, for the "simplicity" of the calculation, we get a revenue of 25,000,000 quanta - 3,500,000 quanta for the territories. On hand for 2 characters we get 21,500,000 quanta.
And now some other arithmetic. Without flying out of the safe zone, you can put these 2 characters on the ship and complete a mission for 1.8 M quanta once a day. We will assume that we will also perform 6 days.
For two characters, you get 21,600,000 quanta. Well, minus the fuel. Let the fuel go for 1kk.
    Total 20,600,000 quants.
So what is the excess of income from bots? And there are generally convenient ways from tades to madis and back, when it turns out 2.7 kk per circle. And fly only 80 su.
    This is the first.
    Second.
If bots seem excessive to someone - make the price 20 or 15 quanta. What is the problem?
    Why did I write this.
It seems to me that someone is guided more by sensations and not by numbers. I don't see any redundancy in bots compared to missions. But people have a choice of what to do. Moreover, the ore does not remain in circulation when sold to bots and is actually destroyed.

And this is also part of why I am strongly against any kind of wipe leading to players losing resources.
Not because it is necessarily a bad idea, but because we told them clearly that the game was not ready for any kind of open beta with subscriptions. And yet they went ahead and did exactly that and made promises about player progression being "forever" to try and justify the subscriptions. So NQ made their bed, and now they have to lie in it.

And the way 'release' is shaping up is look very much to be a repeat of the same problem as with the 'beta' + subscriptions changeover, where we ALL know the game is not ready and that there will be many game breaking changes coming after 'release'. So if NQ breaks their promises and remove player resources at release, it is almost guaranteed the same will happen again after release also.

    So....It's been 3 months now.

NQ's CEO had time to post on LinkedIn 16 times since this thread started, mostly about the metaverse and how great user-created content is...and how revolutionary web3 is (lol).

How many times has NQ commented on this topic since it started? Like 2-3 times?

It seems like he's more interested in cultivating his LinkedIn persona and going to "metaverse conferences" then engaging with customers, understanding his own product, or trying to fix NQ's cosmically bad PR (among other things).

I get that he's likely trying to position NQ for sale or another investment round...which again underscores how little the leadership believes in DU working as a product on release.

Some of the claims he's posted are borderline lies...if the leadership is that willing to "stretch" the truth in a public post, why should we trust them with anything...?

NQ likes to complain about not having enough time, but the new CEO has made it clear that there's more than one project going on.

Adding everything up, I wouldn't be shocked if DU dev was glacial in part because it only has a skeleton crew working on it, with everyone else working on these other projects that NQ won't discuss.

This all feels disingenuous and scammy...which I guess makes NQ a true "metaverse company" after all.

    Wild, right...?

This is NQ's 3rd CEO and the only CEO they've had with actual game development experience.

I was hoping he would help right this ship and push the game to completion, but it seems like he's using DU as a vehicle for his personal web3 / metaverse obsessions rather than focusing on the one product NQ has.

This is the leader NQ's stakeholders picked...?! This is the direction they think will work...?

I've yet to hear any convincing pitch on why blockchain is the solution to any problem in gaming, but these people keep pushing for NFTs and web3 like it's an inevitability...and mostly it's people that don't really understand technology but believe they do.

The level of disconnect and arrogance is really something.

For years we are told any kind of test-account is a bad idea as it does not work with the player driven economy and persistent universe, introducing it almost seems like there are plans to, you know, not have it persistent, like due to some kinda already planned wipe.

    anyway

Player markets of this type, as in, some L cores for decoration and foundation, filled with S or XS cores where people can have dispensers or advertisement, is something that players have already done, but could not get to really take off because of the missing ability to advertise.

Instead of giving players the tools to advertise such a thing (see below), NQ builds their own version, which is now "official" and gets a sticky top spot in the VR list, twitter, website, release note, youtube, launcher advertisement slots.

What are people with actual markets (sorry, dispenser halls with screens) supposed to display there? Big screens with price lists, screenshots of the market and an info button to set destination?
If the normal market ui ("J") had an option to "include player dispensers", then any player wanting to buy item X could also see
"Oh, somebody has a dispenser on a construct called SVEA-Market" 50km away and sells it for cheaper, 52 items available!"

A ship seller has screenshots of his ships, descriptions and destination button at the NQ-Market.
Imagine he could just upload the BP into a "ship databank" and any player can, via VR, load and test those ships in a VR enviroment, and of course buy the bp, I mean it is just a data item after all.

Nope, what we get is the way that needs the smallest amount of work possible, an intern building a market like players already did, manually choose who gets to "rent a stall" and it all gets advertised via the usual outlets.

So a player market, made by devs, advertised via out-of-game tools, without adding in-game tools.
Website based DAC stuff, without adding in-game stuff.
Website based new friend invites, no change in game.
Talents reset, without any change to the talents, which sure could need one.

But in the game at least square lights now do what vertical lists already do, that’s a relief, unless you actually wanted to have some kind of spotlight, with a cone, like the square light works currently.
