Felonu got a reaction from MookMcMook in PvP System
I disagree that it has combat at it's heart.  Yes, PVP will be part of the game, but that doesn't make it the games heart.  Building is this games heart.  When JC talks passionately about the game he talks about coming together to build great wonderful things.  He barely mentions PVP most of the time.  It's the community that try to make PVP the most important part of the game.  I understand that necessity drives innovation, and that PVP will be a large part of the economy.  If you think about the real world though, most people don't fight for their lives daily.  There are parts of the world where they might, but most of the world lives in peace most of the time.  That is because for most people the risk of fighting over a thing is not worth the value of the thing.

Yes, a lot of people from Eve are looking at this game for how it can be a better Eve, but a lot of people that have hated there experiences or never wanted to play Eve are also into the idea of this game.

This game can and hopefully will appeal to those of us who won't even consider games that are balanced toward PVP because of our experiences with Eve.  If this game has the same player atmosphere of Eve, then a lot of the interested players will move on.  Those of us who don't like Eve want this game to be more than we believe that game could ever be.  We want it to be oriented toward building and growing a society together.  We don't want the entire game to be about war and destruction.

The person you are being so rude to was just trying to give you a little piece of information.  He isn't even a gold member, but you are so upset because you misread the times that you went off on him.  As some people have said NQ base of operations is in France.  They originally posted a lot of their information based on American timezones, but with the global aspect of the community they must have decided using UTC (universal time code) was more appropriate than giving times in specific time zones.  They also post their times in 24 hour clock standards (which you might have noticed times greater than 12 on the same notice you saw the 4:00 times) which count from 00:00 (12 midnight) to 23:59 (11:59 PM).

Decency would tell you that you shouldn't just go off on a person because they try to give you information on a forum.  I know things can get frustrating with new software, but the NDA covers any aspect of early access to the game, and the person (who does not have access to the actual NDA text) said that your comment MIGHT fall under it.  He didn't tell you not to post, only implied that you might want to check.

    Hi everyone!
Here are a few clarifications on the topic:

    - As a general rule, any information or content that has been published publicly by Novaquark can be considered as not under the NDA anymore. As we have started to communicate publicly about the tests schedule since the beginning of 2018, this is not under NDA anymore. I will make a quick post tomorrow in the appropriate section to be sure that everyone is aware of that.

    - @Elkay: The reason why you may have had some "login problem" on the forum may be related to the fact that you activated your gold status recently. If that's the case, indeed, you weren't able to access the Pre-Alpha section on the forum, sending you back an error message. The problem is now fixed. If the problem was something else, please contact our customer support at support@novaquark.com

    - @Elkay: For any problem, (log in or anything else), posting on the forum with an angry tone will never solve real problems. Contacting our customer support at support@novaquark.com and explaining in details what the issue is (which error message you get, when did you get it, etc) most likely will.

    - @Elkay: regarding the time frame of the scheduled tests, as the explanation is in a forum section under NDA, I will re-post it there for information purpose.

Dual Universe is still in Pre-Alpha, meaning we are still in a phase where we are debugging/fixing a lot of things.
We do a few tests, then we fix things, then we another batch of tests and we continue to fix more things. Keep in mind that we aren't yet in a phase where you can log to play and have fun like in a nearly-finished game. If you want to log now, you should expect that this is to help the Novaquark team improving the game. If you are logging to have a fun experience, then we thorougly advise you to wait and come back when we will reach Beta, or at the very least Alpha.

Now, why the "weird" time frame schedule?
At the beginning, the goal was to have at least one test per month with hours fitting for every player.
If the time frame seems "crazy" for a test (during the night for instance or while you are at work), then it means this test wasn't originally meant for you but for other testers around the globe. However, if for some reason (if you are on holidays, or you can't sleep, and you really want to test the game) you are free to join at these odd hours, and you are more than welcome.

Please understand that, at least for the time being, don't expect a weekly test with hours fitting for every player. We are aware that this is one of the most pressing demand from the Pre-Alpha testers (more test sessions, longer test sessions) and that's among our priorities. However, as this involves not only server stability but also recruitment and special authorization (not so easy to obtain unless you are already an international company) to work overnight in countries like France, it may take some time. However, we are doing our best to find a solution for more (and longer) tests as soon as possible.

    Best  Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Felonu reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Forum Rules
We want this forum to be a place where everyone feels empowered to have an open and friendly discussion with us (the Novaquark team) as well as other community members.  To help make this possible we have created rules we feel will keep things positive and ensure that proper netiquette is observed.

By posting on this forum, either publicly or through private message or other means, you explicitly agree to follow the rules and guidelines posted here. If you do not agree with these rules – in whole or in any part – then do not post. All members will be treated as if they have read and understood these rules and guidelines.

    (I) Be respectful and courteous.
The Dual Universe forums and community site are provided for Dual Universe players and those interested in discussing topics directly related to Dual Universe. We understand that community members may disagree with each other, and even with us, but we expect opinions to be expressed in a reasonable and polite manner.  It is important to maintain an atmosphere of civility and respect, so that all voices may be heard.

    (II) Communicate constructively.
All communication, whether between players, moderators or Dual Universe staff, must be constructive. Posts without constructive commentary can distract from the topic at hand, reduce the visibility of valuable communication, and discourage others from participating in the conversation.

    (III) Following actions are prohibited:
Posting off-topic replies or replies that are likely to drag the discussion off topic. Necroposting on old threads (unpinned threads in which the last reply is older than 2 months). Spamming on a specific topic. This includes creating multiple discussions on the same topic in the same or multiple forums. Cross-posting a specific reply. This is also a form of spamming. Posting an image without a meaningful text. A meme is not a response to a discussion. They are usually disruptive and can be easily misinterpreted. The same is true for animated GIFs. Calling out other players or community members by name to shame them for actions or opinions you may disagree with. Naming and shaming is not tolerated. Posting in any manner that disrupts an official thread. Official threads are topics created by the Novaquark team for the purpose of collecting feedback and opinions. Threatening legal action. Unfortunately, this kills all conversation immediately as we must refer all further discussion to our legal team. To preserve the conversation intact and unaltered these types of responses may be immediately archived. Trolling (provoking) people. Flaming (insulting, attacking) people. Picking fights isn’t a good way to make your point. It usually means you don’t have one and are just trying to cause trouble. Using profanity. Including creative spelling or character substitution to bypass word filters. Using the report system in an abusive manner. This is a form of harassment and a tremendous waste of time for both staff and moderators. Discussions and comments involving real life politics, ideology or religion. These can be incendiary topics and will usually lead to inappropriate behavior and uncomfortable situations. Publicly posting any private discussions, conversations, or other material between a user and a Novaquark employee (confidentiality policy). Refusal to follow the directions of Novaquark staff or representatives.
The use of an alternate account to circumvent a forum suspension is forbidden at all times. Additionally, the use of alternate account(s) to influence or misrepresent opinions is strictly prohibited. All forum accounts must adhere to the forum rules and Code of Conduct. Failure to comply can result in disciplinary actions against all associated accounts.

Violating these guidelines may trigger a warning, followed by either a temporary or permanent suspension of forum privileges depending on the severity and frequency of the violations.

(IV) The following actions may result in the immediate suspension of forum privileges:
There are some actions severe enough to result in immediate temporary or permanent suspension of posting privileges without prior notification. Serious or sustained offenses may result in suspension of not only the user's forum account but game account as well.

Threatening other members or Novaquark staff. No, “just joking’ is not a defense. We take this very seriously. Publicly revealing account or personal information of any person, community member or Novaquark staff. Posting harmful links pointing to viruses, malware, worms or trojans. Posting sexually explicit content. Including posting links to such content. Hate speech is not tolerated in any form. Attacking any ethnic group, religion, gender or sexual preference/identity. Promoting exploits, cheating programs, piracy or any sort of illegal activity. Attempt to impersonate Novaquark staff or another member of the community.
Violations of these rules may result in further steps taken with outside authorities or agencies. This may include your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and local or national Law Enforcement agencies.

    (V) Abide by moderators and Novaquark employee’s instructions.

If you disagree with a moderator or employee's actions, do not discuss or challenge the matter in forum posts. Send an e-mail to forum@novaquark.com, and be sure to include your forum handle (name displayed on the forum), but NOT your password, and clearly state your concerns.

IMPORTANT: Forum content is moderated at Novaquark's sole discretion, and content may be modified, removed, or otherwise restricted by Novaquark employees and/or moderators.

1 general positive is that it gives us another system that can be used for emergent gameplay.  Players will come up with awesome creative uses for the system, and I would actually be interested in the system because the defensive systems to counter it would be really fascinating.

I hope NQ finds a balance that is fun whether they decide to implement these different hacking scenarios or not.

500 years is huge at this point in time. You can't look back for pointers either, since technological progress is not linear, it's exponential. Citing the crossbow is a bit disingenuous, as it's pretty good at doing what it does. Better to think about something we can only just do, and see how that worked 500 years ago, like getting me to listen to your favourite band/composer's latest piece in seconds from my car compared to going out and finding a performance and waiting weeks or months to both physically attend it. On top of that, we've not got a huge drive for survival and space technologies right now, not like a "cataclysm threatening the entire Earth" kind of drive anyway. It is most likely that thrusters, ship systems and life support all got a huge boost in both scientific interest and funding in the run up to the evacuation.

I disagree that the DU tech is grounded; millennia-long cryo-sleep, ships that fly sub-sonic and hover in atmosphere and gravity using only thrusters with (relatively) tiny fuel tanks, nano-tech, ultra-miniaturization and re-expansion, plus we've got FTL and jump-gates on the horizon... At the same time, you've got little automation, manually controlled turrets, restricted telepresence etc. In short, we have a whole bunch of stuff we can't see a way to get to from here, and a lack of a bunch of stuff we can do right now.
Not my definition of grounded, but, and this is the important bit, it doesn't have to be in order to be fun.

As for EM drives in DU, yeah, they could work as expensive stealth engines, or as alternatives to other types to keep your fuel requirements down at the cost of seriously reduced thrust, or low thrust for low weight, or... Balance it how you like, plenty of niches it could fill.

Writing this I realise that I actually only care that we have a choice between variants of parts, and reasons to make those choices. Do I want to keep the fuel cost down, or keep high acceleration? Frankly it doesn't matter to me at that point whether I'm choosing between conventional or EM drives, or whether the choice is between H2O2 or Hydrazine propellants, or even between Variant-A and Variant-B. As long as the choice is there and I'm not just stuck with Small, Medium and Large versions of the same engine.

Despite what @CaptainTwerkmotor keeps saying, I never said I want grieving punished.  (I’ll leave the misinterpretation of the quote alone for now. )  I’m with the OP that I don’t want to see this game get the same reputation that EVE has because I believe it will limit the playerbase.  In my experience the reputation of EVE from people that don’t play it and never have or have only tried it briefly is that it is a cesspool of griefing and newbie killing.  I just want new players here to be welcomed into the community and given time to learn the game.  Once people learn the game I think PVP is a good way for the universe to expand and will give us things to do.  I offered a possible solution that doesn’t punish or limit anything just gives a little more weight to defense vs offense.  But I keep being told I’m ignoring words that have nothing to do with what I’m talking about except in a tangential way.

You said those same things in your previous post, and as I pointed out they don't speak to any of my points.  You are still arguing a straw man that you are building.  You can't seem to actually debate the actual conversation so you make my post about what you want it to be about so that you have the ability to argue it.  You simply don't have the ability to have a conversation with anybody who disagrees with you, because you are incapable of trying to understand what anybody else is trying to say.

@Msoul  I appreciate you actually talking about my points and I agree that there does need to be complicated intricate gameplay in the macro game.  I personally think that 1:1 ratio lends to a slightly more aggression based game than I would prefer, but understand the importance of both playstyles giving their input to come out with what will be the most fun for the most players.  Having honest discourse with both sides stating their opinions, and NQ deciding the value of the different options and applying their vision to it is what I believe will make for the most fun exciting game play.

Thank you for basing an entire post on assumptions about other people and using that to rant against those people without adding a single new piece of information to the conversation.  This is proof of my point that assumptions don’t help the conversation.

Nothing you said was anything but a strawman argument.  You turned your misinterpretation of my words into the strawman.  I don’t think grieving should be punishable.  I don’t want to play by myself.  I wasn’t even talking about my personal game preferences.  I also never said I knew what EVEs problem was.  I was talking about the perception of EVE from new players, and people that won’t play because of perceptions.  I was talking about things that I think could help DU avoid some of these playerbase limitations.

You don’t seem to want to have an honest conversation though.  You want to belittle and twist the meanings of those insignificant dissenting opinions.

I agree with your fears.  Despite what some people say, EVE does have that reputation, and it's why a lot of people don't even give it a try.  If this game turns into a new version of EVE, then I don't think it will do very well.  It would be splitting the player base of people willing to try a game that has a reputation for being almost impossible for new players to start without being bullied, or griefed.  My solution to these problems would simply be to increase the power of defensive systems over offensive systems.  If you have the right balance of defensive tools/offensive tools it will take more than someone being bored to grief you.  If you give defensive tools earlier than offensive tools, that helps too.  This balance  can have a major effect on the gameplay and it isn't something that we know any actual information on yet.

I am waiting for some discussion by NQ about the weapons systems and how they will be applied before I make up my mind.  I am extremely excited and hopeful, but I can very well see the possibility of the game community making the game simply not fun for new players.

Foreign Aid can always be handled by Organizations in game.  It is something you could try to get your org to do if you feel strongly that it should exist.  In the RW aid doesn't come from magical sources.  Other countries put it together to send to countries in need.  There are many reasons to do these types of things (better your perception, get future profit from that other organization, hide a smuggling operation in your aid shipments, gather intelligence about actual personnel numbers and locations, or just doing what you think is right).  This is the system I think we should see in the game if anything.  NQ seems to understand that any in game systems they implement take away emergent gameplay options from players to take care of these things, and I hope they continue with a generally hands off approach.
