    This has been discussed to death. However I feel that it's been a year since the F2P thread started, so everything does deserve a valid answer.
     
    So, there was actually a way to avoid the subscription. That is to get a lifetime subscription in the kickstarter and crowdfunding period. How much? $475 USD for the physical rewards pack offered with the kickstarter. I think $425 USD for the digital rewards. I got the lifetime subscription for these reasons. A) I wanted to support Dual Universe and B ) I know that I'll be playing Dual Universe for the amount of time that my investment turns back, which is over two years.
     
    Now Lethys has been doing an excellent job explaining this. There is also a dev blog about it here:

    You can hear it explained by the people personally working on the game that way.
     
    Along with that, here's the way I'm going to put it. Let's take a look at a game like Space Engineers. It's been a big hit, selling many copies, and so on. However you should have noticed that it hit beta at a certain point, with a release planned at some point evidently. This is a simple problem of the fact that not everyone is going to buy Space Engineers at the same rate for extended periods of time. KSH is likely planning to put the cap on it when it no longer has enough profit(if it hasn't already done that). So you will see Space Engineers have a life cycle that's impressive for a B2P game, but would not cut it for an MMO. Infact I'd call myself a detriment due to my status not having to pay monthly.
     
    That's a summary of it all. I tried to touch on points that Lethys didn't cover. Hope you were able to get some more information from it.

    Hi RadFallout100 and welcome on the official Dual Universe forum.
     
    No, there won't be any single player or LAN Mode, because it's not the vision of the game. The goal is to gather the whole community in the same game universe.
    There are already many games enabling players to host their own server and build what they want (Minecraft, Space Engineers, Empyrion...) and Dual Universe aims to provide a different game experience. Private investors and backers have supported the game for the original vision, so no development time will be spent to deviate from this vision. This is one of the few topics that aren't opened to discussion.

    That is an FAQ post. Since you aren't a Gold Backer or above, that is going to be your best(and really only source besides asking someone in the community) about the game.
     
    Onward to the main topic though! How did you find out about the game recently? I'm curious about how people have been finding this gem nowadays.

    AFAIK the supporter packs will give players access to Alpha-2.
     
    There's currently no estimate on when Alpha-2 will start.
     
    So even if Supporter Packs go on sale tomorrow, all those players will have to wait (probably a good many months) for the start of Alpha-2...

    Secondly, glad to see you have a hobby of shooting people in the face. Great hobby to have! Sadly the founder packs are non-transferable and each account belongs to one player. You can't obtain another person's account as that is against the rules. However though, there are going to be another round of packs with the only difference really being the fact that some rewards were removed, like lifetime subscription, so there's that!
     
    Tell me, what do you want to do in this game now that you have found it?

    Hi everyone,
     
    Here is a (small) overdue update about the Lore:
     
    Lore Update (2 Oct. 2017):
     
    UMF (United Mankind Federation) becomes UEF (United Earth Federation).  From a Lore point of view, the testing phases including Alpha and Beta stages are considered in the Lore as virtual simulation run by Aphelia while the Alpha Team members are asleep (note: Pre-Alpha stage is not considered as part of the Lore) The in-game money will the “Quanta” (one Quanta, several Quantas). “Novean” is the term to name a passenger of the Arkship “Novark”.  
    P.S: regarding potential inconsistency between Nanopack rarity and the way a Player Character is resurrected, it's possible we will go with the solution "By naked, we mean, everything else than what you had before you leaving the Arkship". However, this is still in discussion. We'll keep you informed about the final decision

    Now then, for the thing to discuss in the room, economics! I absolutely love the ideas, but I can tell you that you have already taken a large interest in it yourself. I assume you have looked at real life examples, while I've more or less applied everything to practical in-game examples. Let me get started off here on concepts that you will want to take an interest in.
     
    To begin, there is no real way to take an ownership stake in an organization as of yet and I'm not sure if there will be any specific way. There will be the RDMS(Rights & Duties Management System), which allows you to assign very in-depth tags that may allow for some aspects of such but there is currently no working example of that. I don't see this system being put to use with investments, stakes or bonds in an organization though,  so I have to imagine this would be an internal management issue handled by each organization independently. With this in mind though, there are of course ways to cheat the system and prevent shares, bonds and such from being handled properly. This would require very careful management. It's an amazing proposition and I'll get to working on a conceptual system to make it work right away!
     
    As for the rest, I would rather like to discuss that in DMs, as I'm sure everything I'm saying can be assumed, I just don't want to make assumptions about stocks, bonds, management, oversight, profit and such in public grounds. Each person has their own way of thinking about it and my own statements rather reflect exactly how I think things will go. Not a good way to keep your strategies secret after all!
     
     
    Alright, onto the next part. Your idea of investing in organizations is very, very, very good. Many people theorize by conquest, peace, trade and so on but with investors, the world moves. Like all the statements I expressed above, there are going to be some challenges and certainly some logistics problems to work though. This though I want to discuss with you in detail as well. I absolutely love economics of trade, investment and so forth! This is a very good idea as I will say once again and I applaud you to keep working on it!
     
    Finally, I hope to see you in this upcoming Pre-Alpha on Saturday(30th)! That also leads me to one more point. I'm Alpha Team Vanguard(ATV) and have actually played the pre-alpha last Saturday(23rd). I'm under NDA so I can not disclose any information or opinions about it though! My point being though, if you want some advice about your ideas, I bet there are a couple ATV folk like myself who would love to listen to your ideas and offer suggestions. Ever need something, go ahead and ask them!

    You are actually very wrong sir(I assume sir). 
     
     
    This is what you are referencing, but in actuality, it is using a LUA script to follow him. He specifically says that it is LUA based instead of him using the remote flight unit to control it. However, while you might state that his using the flight controller to control it towards him, it is more likely he is using it to monitor the status of the barge like unit. 
     
    STATEMENT: None of anything I say here is based on the gameplay of the Dual Universe, but instead on the public media content posted by NQ themselves.

    So, as mentioned in this video interview with the Dual Universe devs, it is said that there will be technological research in order to progress. That means that there will be something similar to tech research in the game. Now, this could mean one of two things.
     
    We could have an actual tech tree that must be researched by time and experimentation such as testing things out. Or my prefered one....
     
    True experimental research where you must test designs, figure out ideas and as such in order to build what you're looking for, ie a FTL drive.

    First off, I would like to give you this.
     
    It is an article that comprises of almost all of the information that you should read up on. Now then, I'll introduce myself as MasteredRed.
     
    Now then, if you are interested in exploring and mining, I'll give you some information on one of the topic. This time I'll do mining.
    Some of the mechanics for mining are actually quite interesting. For one case, you will be mining ores that are fairly deep. The deeper you go as well, the more rare the resource usually is. This comes with a catch however.
     
    Due to the mechanics at play, you will have to determine the ores location via a method known as scanning. By doing a couple scans, you can pinpoint the location of the ore, and mine it. Mining as well is done via players and can not be automated. This is all actually quite intricate and required some thought when you go about discussing it even. This also means that if you want to get heavily involved in mining, I would recommend an organization that knows what they are doing. This would be a great method to use!
     
    That's just one mechanic and I glossed over some of it, but I hope it helps you figure out what you would like to do in these areas

    You are pretty much correct on your assumptions. While Construct to construct communication has never been explicitly confirmed, it has more than been hinted at, assumed, and generally accepted. 
     
    As for merging, we assume there will be ways to dock. Beyond that though, no theories have been denied or confirmed. We have just been kindof theorizing about that one. There are some more things that I can go into deep assumptions about, but there is a time and a place for that. With alpha, most of our theories or assumptions will be answered.

    I suppose you think you will be doing something else in DU for most of the time? Or do you think your ships magically get replenished after every time a pirate explodes you?

    EVE is a social experience, if you play it like WoW, expecting "log in, queue up for battleground, kick peoples' shins in PVP, get free loot", then you of course won't like them. Mining Ops is when people get to chill and talk about stuff - you know, social things, it's an MMO. I'm getting the vibes you are not one to do those in games, so, time to dust off he social skills playbook.
     
    Mining Ops in EVE also happen so the corp's industry division can keep the miltiary division supplied. You call that "grind", others call it "teamwork". If you don't like Teamwork, you won't like it in DU either.
