is this our problem? Feels like bad game/server design and should have been adressed years and years ago as they very well knew what they promoted during kickstarter.

Please keep your insults to yourself... cheers. We get enough from NQ.

if that sounds like work to you, you must have a certain type of mundane job. It’s nothing like my job which is far less structured,  more free form and moderately creative…

I enjoy the disciple and the puzzle nature of the beast that is DU industry, much like people enjoy factorio, a good crossword puzzle or even chess.

Hardly "always".  Note I'm an Alpha Tester.  Prior to 0.23, industry was fun.  You would make progress based on effort expended and could feel good doing so.  Optimizing a layout, using Transfer Units to keep things running - this was fun.  Now it feels like the head banging in the title of this thread.  Oh, not to mention you could take a two week vacation and come back and pick up where you left off.  With luck, might have even raised some quanta via your dispensers.   Now everything is based around paying the tax man.

I've invested 4 years of my life in this game, and subscribed myself and 2 alts for a year in hopes it wasn't as bad as I heard.  It is.

I really feel bad for anyone coming into this game 6 months down the road, presuming its still running.  Surface ores are going to be the stuff of legends.

The balance is simply broke.  We tried for years to discuss this with NQ... but they knew better.  Not.  Most everything I've seen since 0.23 has been implemented to reduce the cost of running the servers - and sold as "performance enhancements", at the expense of players.

Its depressing.  I'm too old with too much medical history to every hope to get in the ground floor of another game with this potential.  Sad, just sad.

No they promised nothing like that as such, really, apart from the best MMO building game and a society entirely designed, built and run by players allowing us to make our mark in the galaxy by playing whatever role we want, defined not by character class but by the choices we make...

    LOL.

But I made a mistake in an earlier post... We had to strip mine 2 tiles to get 3~4k of T2 ore.  There is only 1.5k of T2 ore per tile. Only about enough to make 100m3 of luminescent glass...

Currently the only way we can even make Medium cores right now is by purchasing exorbitantly priced T2 at circa. 100 ℏ per litre because we were completely unable to discover any T2 tile by scanning...  So basically the mega orgs who scanned thousands of tiles and cornered the entire T2 market are set for life while the rest are basically stuffed.

But yeah, NQ's motto:  "Play whatever role you want... just don't expect it to be fun."

I really don't get  why the delay.
They know who is who regarding pledges, backers, etc... since the rewards were delivered at launch.
They have the log of all inventory transactions from all players, hence how to know who got the STU or not.
It doesn't take that long to cross both.

Captain Hills reacted to GraXXoR in Get rid of schematics already.
Schemitics reduce server load by simultaneously inflating the cost of products while at the same time reducing spare ℏ.

They also significantly reduce fun.  I’ve spent a really dull hours just trying to scrape together enough ℏ with the tiny fragments of what remains of our org by surface scavenging the shit out of everywhere I have permission.

It’s worse than mining used to be.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The whole premise of “entirely player driven and built” is a laughing stock.

bots control our hex-rent. Bots control our schematics. Bots control our sales taxes. Bots hand out and receive missions. Bots sell pretty much everything anyone needs. Bots buy stupid almost unlimited amounts of ore and bots hand out a daily stipend. And bots control whether or not we can fire weapons.

what is there actually left to play and strive for other than building?

why is there no energy required to run anything? Why is there no oxygen requirements for our habitats?
why is there no food or farming?

why are there no threatening box life forms that raid our camps?

why are there no mysteries beyond a few lowest possible effort alien cores?

    what an absolute joke.

You will be so missed! Hope you think about this another time. been there myself and although i actually already said byebye i still am here.

Most of the points you mention are so true,
a nice example is those stupid npoc missions someone thought we needed but only added ways to cheat.  Now we have gotten lousy schematics to get rid of the quanta introduced by stupid missions.....what a waste.

Frankly, when playing a sandbox, with actuall people who can make actuall missions why the hell introduce npc missions.

But you are correct, if building a single voxel tower at 500 meters from a market that will not render untill too late is not an act of grieving, or lets minimize that goes in on player hapiness. then what is stopping everyone from again making alioth a gigantic hedgehog, specially around towers.

I can see this as an actuall way to get materials, just build a few spikes on your territory and hope people crash on it, make sure the territorial rights are correctly set so they cannot fix the ship and free loot is there. But still according to NQ Honest gameplay.

As said, You will be missed and added to the long list of backers and starters that did not survive Beta or release. Still hope to see you back here!

It's really sad to see you go, Arch, but I can understand the feeling. After today's whole shit show on Discord and having an NQ employee running circles around the subject, making fun of my question and muting me for 4 hours instead of giving a final answer that addressed not only the 2km airspace rule, but the 2km screens rule one too, I also felt quite tired.

I know I did my part trying to improve this game and having it succeed, but I also give up trying. I'll just keep playing until I can't afford the subscription anymore and leave, just like you, because there isn't point in trying to sympathise with a game developer that clearly has no respect to their player base and can't even follow their own rules.

See you around the pond, Arch! I'm sure we'll meet again.

I refuse to let you quit! Seriously bud - this is not the hill to die on. The game needs people like you. WE need people like you. I respect your decision but politely and respectfully request that you ignore the lack of enforcement of their own rules and carry on playing with us, the people with whom you have grown friendships with over the last 2+ years!

Also - there are many other ways we can tackle this problem at its heart. How about a server wide embargo on trading at this market.

Message me on my discord if you want to chat. Don't let this be your swansong though. For those of us who enjoy having you around!

All I see is hatred here. Are you telling me that a few discrepancies has caused so much hatred in you that now you must leave the game? Do you not care for all the time you spent here? What about all the people you have met. DU is not a perfect game, I don't think any game will ever be a perfect game. But why can't we enjoy it for what it is? NQ surely has some stuff to take care of, but man they are human too trying their best to live and make cool games, surely we can cut them a little slack? Bwaha

Take a break bro, but don't leave forever. Come back and enjoy the game again when you are ready to.

    UPDATE
Given a conversation with NQ this weekend and expected rule clarifications next week (not sure which way, just clarified rules) I plan to continue playing for the moment. This might end up being like when you plan to quit a job, you are offered some so you stay, and you end up quitting 6 months later, but we will see. I honestly do want DU to work out, I didnt put 2 years of coding into it because I want it to fail. When you have a game with GM enforced rules, they must be clear and they must be enforced, especially in PvE areas where all other players have no recourse. If we had territory warfare and could have dealt with this on our own, it would be a totally separate situation. Anyway, ArchHUD will be maintained and continue to be improved for now (as much as I was ever able to improve it).

It is with some amount of deep regret that I say goodbye to DU.

I have tried to support the game, beyond ArchHUD, but NQ's attitude to blatant griefing is just too much.

This is not how you help a game grow.  We all know there are lots of issues, but I was hoping that the wipe and release would be a nice fresh start.

I want to thank everyone who has supported ArchHUD (and ButtonHud before that) and who have provided support and kind words over the 2 years.

I hated the fact we have T1 bots buying ore injecting unlimited quanta into the economy (why should coal be worth anything if no player willing to pay for it).
I hated there are bots selling elements (takes way player market niche setting ceiling prices)
I hated the fact that there is no decay of elements (life count is bugged, nothing on my ship goes below 2 lives left, and of course static elements never run out).
I hated that we didnt get Territory Warfare (original promise)
I hated that their solution to pvp problems was a stupid floor max speed no matter mass of ship.  (And floor burn speed no matter size of ship).

I was willing to overlook it, and hope they would make the game better, but ....

I cannot continue supporting a game where the dev's ignore blatant griefing and refuse to enforce their own rules.  (see below post).

So I am done.  I wish you all well, and will see you around the pond.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

    Archaegeo

(Regarding ArchHUD - I will leave it up for the time being.  I will not be providing support for it though going forward.  There are many who will, and someone might pick up the mantel).

Yeah, that is a big part of the feel bad experience with industry. There is a massive talent investment, a massive time investment, and cost in getting the machines setup. Having artificial roadblocks on top feels like piling on.

I hope that we can some day reach a point where the balancing that NQ desires for indy takes the form of gameplay loops and not just arbitrary obstacles.
