Tional got a reaction from decom70 in INSIDE NOVAQUARK: DEMETER EDITION - Discussion Thread
Did you even watch the video? Most of what you said is false.
Day one:
First nothing happens. Wallets are created to deposit quanta into for future rent. Players learn how much that rent is going to be, and have plenty of time to react as needed. Nothing is "instantly confiscated".
Day two:
"next date for due taxes is closing" false.
"property is confiscated" also false.
Day three:
You buy some mining units, and you place your mining units. Congrats. They start generating ore. No reactivation of tiles is necessary, because you haven't gotten anywhere close to that timeframe yet.
Ore prices are predicted to go up, and the market bots haven't been relevant in a long, long time. Probably won't be now, either.
As for sanctuary, and everywhere else, surface mining is still completely valid. Get surface rocks, use them to make baby mining units, and deploy baby mining units. Profit!
Enough with the doom and gloom.
Say YES to Mining Units!
Also say YES to Territory taxes, because they're finally going to evict all of the people that quit playing a year ago.

Compared to 36+ hours of mining meganodes?
I'll take it.

Can I have your stuff? Oh, right, I can. I just have to wait for the taxes to eat your hexes.

Tional got a reaction from Selena in DEMETER PTS PREVIEW - Discussion Thread
I think you're doing it wrong. You can absolutely claim 3 hexes, deploy 3 static cores, and deploy 3 mining units. Then calibrate each of them (using charges), and run them. All 3 will get adjacency bonuses, and all 3 will produce ore.
This is why we have a test server, so you can test the functionality and see how it works before it goes live.

Fixed those for you.
Sure, I'm not speaking for so-called veterans. I'm speaking for myself, my org, my org-mates, and all of the former org-mates that quit when 0.23 dropped.
Since then, they 'fixed' the price of schematics from their horrifically flawed introductory price scheme, then broke them for 2 hours, then fixed them again. They added missions, which devalued currency to almost meaningless, while adding PvP content at the same time. They added asteroids, which provided PvP content for a portion of the server, and provided PvP victims for another portion. And now they're adding automated miners so we can finally stop playing dig-dug, except on asteroids with too-small nodes.
The game has gotten better since 0.23, but as I said, my friends won't be back. So I want their stuff. It's really that simple. And I'll be able to get it, if I'm there first.

As so many others are doing on Discord, you can paint this as dark as you want. That doesn't make it so.
A few clicks, followed by flying away with the ore from the last 5-7 days. That's it. And it never runs out.
Compared to finding the rare meganodes (that were running out), spending countless hours mining them, to finally fly away with a huge amount of ore... that is now gone. Never to return. So you have to unclaim the hex, pay a (typically) high amount to claim another, but only after scanning for hours and hours... to maybe find another.
Nope. I'm a big fan of the new system. Especially once you figure out the actual yields including adjacency bonuses and proper talents.

Sure, and people fear change. I get that. I'm a fan of the changes, your mileage may vary.
As for the people who helped fund the game, I'm paying for my two subscriptions, so I'm helping to fund the game. And so many of my friends paid for theirs, so they helped fund the game. Then they all quit when 0.23 came out because it was an unmitigated disaster.
The game has gotten better since then, and continues to do so. They won't be back. So their territories should be freed up for others to use. It's really that simple. As for their constructs, and the contents inside them... NQ hasn't made clear how that part's going to work yet. We shall see.

Tional reacted to iIViperIi in Mining talents reset with Demeter update - Discussion thread
I do not understand. It seems like there is unnecessary resistance to allowing us to respec talents. However, in a vast majority of games you spend some in game currency to allow yourself the ability to respec your talent points. It seems that you are already half way there with the ability to do so in PTS. So to make everyone happy, it would only make sense to allow us to purchase a respec pill at the market. This allows those that want to respect the ability to do so and those that despise the idea to continue to despise it and leave their talents alone. Why is this not your course of action in this case? This seems like a win win no brainer - what am I missing?

Tional reacted to DekkarTV in Mining talents reset with Demeter update - Discussion thread
It's disappointing to see the community poll ignored and the decision to "spot reset" talents not fully explained.
Mining Rework- It's not just about mining and most don't seem to get that. This is an entire evolution of the gameplay loop within DU and the resulting change affects all aspects of the game.
Previously on NQ files;
Mining WAS required by 90% of the community in order to build, earn money, do industry and pvp. With the introduction of missions there was no reset of skills, but this enabled a new form of "trucker" gameplay where flight skills and defensive knowledge allowed for a new gameplay loop and new way of earning currency. Those that did not like mining but had to spec into it did not get a reset of their skills. When pvp changed, most pvpers still had to mine to build ships, adapt the meta, and stay rich enough to continue fighting. (First change whole community received a reset at 0.23) When the pvp honeycomb, shield, new gun size patch hit the entire meta was disrupted (good) however none of those players got any reset to fix their builds or be able to adapt to it without spending the next few weeks learning skills they didn't have prior and being stuck with skills they no longer needed.
So much has changed in the year since 0.23 dropped and the brutal impact it had on the community. The community today is not the same as it was previously and has accepted and adapted to all of the changes that NQ has put forth. The game is heading in a much better direction and evolving into a fully casual experience for everyone, while some are opposed, this actually creates a system where "less work" is required for the small time player to achieve their own personal goals. Where previously one could spend weeks mining all the required materials for a build project, only to start building and then need to go mine again. Now with this new system, they may go mine a bulk start, but their autominers can assist with providing materials while they build instead. (insert any job any player wants to do, and this assists).
What NQ fails to realize is the need for a full reset. Since mining can now be automated, every part of the talent tree and your "Year long Character Build" for your account is fully under stress. Now that the community has a "clearer" view of the direction of the game as put forth by NQ in their streams, we may no longer simply want to play the game in the same fashion as we did a year ago. With so many new loops and gameplay options available, and the ability to reduce overall time in some tasks while focusing on what you are passionate about, players should not be "held accountable" for their "talent builds" from December 2020 where mining/industrial regrowth (schematics) became the central focus of the vast majority of the community. Players put talents into industry to help their friends/orgs better manage the growth of their futures, where as it may no longer be required if one simply wants to be the best space trucker they can be.
New builds open with a full respec of the tree, and although some may say "tedious" it really is just a pure laziness reason for not wanting to do it. Like your tree now, just put the points back where they are. For the rest of the community that wants to "Evolve" with the game in its direction, so many new options are opened, but a year of talents block most of them for the vast majority of the veteren playerbase to date.
New Builds and New ways to play are the future of DU. Please NQ let us adapt fully and not just 2 weeks of skills.

You can still perfectly build underground, nothings changed about that. You still own your Territories, you just gotta pay a little rent. You can still Terraform on large scales. You lose Independence? Not really.
Read the change log and watch the Q&A before you type something that has already been answered/disproven.

Tional reacted to NQ-Pann in MINING TALENTS RESET WITH DEMETER UPDATE
When the Demeter update goes live soon, some talents will be reset to fit the mining overhaul and the introduction of mining units.
The following list of talents will be reset and their points recredited to your available talent pool:
Mining and Inventory Miner Mining Range Advanced Mining Mining Optimizations Scanner Upgrades Detector Upgrades Dredger Mining Efficiency Scanning Efficiency Scanner Advanced Upgrades Detector Efficiency Detector Optimization
Any of these actively training when the update is released will be taken out of the queue, and the points already invested during training will be seamlessly recredited to your available talent pool.
Note that this will not be the case for the PTS, as you can simply refund your talent points there by typing /respec in chat and then reconnecting to the PTS.

A little off topic. But, by far, the best "we dont have a clue" moment from NQ was a youtube AMA when JC was dreaming about the possibility of stealth bases underground and how hard it would be to find them and in the next question some one asks how hard is it to find them when you can only make a base in your owned territory and those can be seen in the planet map.
That was the time when JCs face went from "dreaming" to "no F clue" in less then 10 secs.

There's like five people who got rich from exploits. A wipe would make a very vocal minority (of the already limited number of people who still play) happy, and the rest would leave. It's basically a big middle finger to everyone who has put in the time and effort since the beginning of beta to build wealth. Doing a quanta-only wipe would be even worse. I've made money by selling ships. If you wipe the quanta but let them keep the ships, they they basically got them for free, and I (and every other ship seller) gets screwed.

NQ Sirq mentioned that the actual ore info from PTS and current game, and what will be available after update will be different.
How about you guys actually watch entire video and stop complaining about stuff that has been explained?

Tional got a reaction from Novean-119644 in INSIDE NOVAQUARK: DEMETER EDITION - Discussion Thread
Please, no. They already confirmed there are 5 tiers of mining units. Don't make factories even more of a mess by having 25 new items x however many lines of each one.

Tional reacted to NQ-Sirg in INSIDE NOVAQUARK: DEMETER EDITION - Discussion Thread
Let's say you had a scan for a given territory. After the update, the scan will still be there in your inventory. It will no longer show you the current underground ore information as this information will now be outdated. Instead it will show you the ore information for the new mining unit feature. So a scan item will still be valid and show relevant information.

Did you watch the video? They did discuss what happens when you don't pay the taxes. For two weeks, the tile becomes "inactive" where industry and mining units won't work. After that, the TU is deleted and the tile becomes available. The only thing that wasn't clear (because they haven't decided yet) is what happens to constructs on that tile.
Pretty wild speculation given that they haven't even finalized how much the taxes will be.
Oh good, another ridiculous "wiper" who's mad that other people have more quanta then them.

NQ, keeping in touch / doing an Inside Star Cit... / DU video series is a good step in the proper direction.
Also the frequency of client / game updates is getting better.
Keep up the improved work.

We definably need a talent respec.
I'm an underground miner, but have never been to an asteroid as I have no interest in the PvP aspect of the game and the safe space ones are low tier and go so fast.
Would be a loss of a lot of my talent points if I were stuck with something I wouldn't use anymore

Everyone's using lasers. Everyone talks about lasers being the only real choice at this point. NQ says nothing.

Tional reacted to BlindingBright in All things in balance.
I love DU- and IMHO this game is in a better place than it's been since I started playing right after beta launched. NQ has started to turn things around, is it perfect? no. Is it improving? mostly! Does it still need work? well it's still beta haha
When missions came out, it opened up the flood gates of quanta for many small-to-large orgs. It was profitable to run Aphelia missions in the safe zone, and in pvp space as a solo player. Currently with the inflation in the market on ore prices quadrupling in a matter of months.... causing fuel costs to skyrocket, it's nearly impossible to turn a decent profit for running aphelia missions anymore... and I see a ton less people taking them/delivering at Market 3 on Madis as time goes on.
Meanwhile, asteroids come out- with them giving us something to fight over... high tier ore that's in short supply planet side. Activity flourishing, finally orgs have some new targets and possibly something to actually fight over. With it, spawning an entire player-driven war of sorts, creating player driven content and contention. Though, in time- the price of high tier ore has decreased to the point of roid hunting/mining loosing it's profitability- with nearly the same hour of time spent mining an asteroid a player can make on a planet mining T1 / T2(and not even meganodes....), not even including the risk of loosing a ship.... a ship that was ultimately dug out of the "ground" by hand..... and for many not worth the risk.
The missing piece? autominers, they're coming soon, people are getting ready for them and old players are starting to have their ears perk up a bit again... and probably one of the hardest to balance. From land being horded/claimed in mass- to how much they'll mine per hour.... and price of creating them. And while any suggestions may be too late, I would urge... air on the side of /more/ I'd personally like to see this game move from spending countless hours mining- to spending countless hours creating and growing the player made content in the universe.
With enough ore supply orgs could finally have the resources to expand without burning out members on the "grind", it'd allow for more people to get into PVP- with my hopes to allow orgs an easier way to gain ore and fleet fields of ships to be destroyed... so not every major PVP loss feels like hours of your life gone. This PVE content could help balance the needs of PVP, bringing lower tier ore prices down- making roid hunting and high tier ore mining more viable again... and in doing so balance the price of fuel/mission system to be more viable again as a solo player.
So am excited for this next path, and hope that it brings some much needed balance to the game.
