Not really true. Try landing at 10 fps. You'll see the difference quick.

DU is built on Unigene engine, and to quote JC himself, "nothing works out of the box for us".

So yes, performance is very important. Setting up industry in a lag fest just makes me want to play something else. Piloting in low fps is a disaster. The fact that so much resources are taken up just in the starting zone with almost no players around Is a telling sign there is something really wrong with game performance, not the least of which is they have failed to decouple cpu and gpu processes.

Lots of ppl betting on that. But can designing pretty voxel ships be a lasting objective?
What ever the answer is, its not my type of game. I like to feel rewarded emotionally when i make a good decision on a game. I dont feed on other ppl grief to get satisfaction.

Agree with the crystal clear part. It should not be in any doubt.

Don't have exact link, it's like all other info, you remember reading it somewhere / hearing it on some interview but don't recall which one.

Beyond all other issues, I think DU can't afford wipe simply out of demographic reasons.

Currently there is probably just several thousands more or less active players. Many of them (who are not fanatical voxelmancers or other cultists) play/log in/hang around not because they enjoy current game-grind-play process that much, but exactly because it all persistant and will, potentialy, benefit them in "bright future".

To reliably muck up all this people with wipe, NQ need to be pretty darn sure they can get new (replacement) players by release in huge numbers. This is at best dodgy. So, NQ need by any means preserve viable population (I hope 0.23 thing was good warning for them) until better days. Another consideration, that with wipe NQ likely to lose not just any players, but vetarans of many years, who are still backbone of game existance as something meaningful.

From what I've seen this past year in DU and from my 30+ years of gaming and 10+ years of game development, I can say that:

    - NQ is inexperienced with game development and more generally with software development. They're learning both as they go making a lot of mistakes.
    - The game is clearly not designed from the ground up to be a game. Like some other projects out there, notability No Man Sky, the starting point wasn't a video game but some cool computer technologies. For DU it was dual contouring voxels combined with classic 3D models (the elements). For NMS it was their adaptive procedural generation system. Usually games are designed the other way around: you plan your gameplay systems and then invent, create or reuse computer technologies to implement these systems. So basically the 'game' aspect of DU is not yet fully designed and finished and they're sill iterating based on what their tech can do it. For short: "we have these cool techs, what game can we make with them ?" instead of "let's make this cool game : which techs do we need to do it ?'.
    - the beta is at best an early alpha
    - the alpha was a PoC/tech demo
    - they clearly don't play their own game, at least not like a normal player would (playing with cheat codes like spawning infinite resources/money or instant travel to anywhere doesn't give you the actual "feeling" a normal player get but rather a distorted one. Designing and iterating the game with that distorted feeling is a very bad thing to do. All seasoned game designers know that. Same for metrics/Excel based game design decisions.
    - they don't clearly know what their target audience is.

I think at least 2 more years are required to have a real beta. Doing this in the open with paying customers will not be a good journey.

So I decided to play Dual Universe for a considerable amount of time after a long break. I was trying to get into space with a construct that I knew was able to get into space before. After a bit of trial and error, I realized I had to add a medium atmospheric engine to my construct into space. I was able to leave Alioth, and after getting to space I decided to go back to base in Sanctuary.

Little did I know that I had barely enough space fuel, both in the tank and in my inventory to make it to Sanctuary. After reaching space I turned around to set course for the moon. I realized I was slowing down from my initial course fast enough, but stupid me forgot to brake! I had less than 10 percent in the space tank after that ordeal and about 25 L total in my inventory, but I thought I still had enough. That was until I overshot Sanctuary and had to turn around yet again. I lost even more fuel. Upon turning around a second time, this time I remembered the space brake exists and this helped me with changing direction.

At around 10 su from Sanctuary (and 20 km from the edge of the safe zone, too!) and with about less than 3 percent in the tank, I decided to go at 25 percent throttle to about 3000 km/h, then shut it off. This time my ship was headed in the right direction. I let Sanc's gravity speed me up to about 4000 km/h, which happen when I was between 1-2 su from the moon. After making a gradual descent I made to Sanctuary and my base with around 1 percent space fuel left!

tl;dr: I almost got stranded in space due to my stupidity and lack of fuel, but a clutch performance helped me get to my destination!

Pretty much exactly what I (and some others) tried to tell them back then.. And the same physics could be used the make reaching space hard in a way that would take time as JC wanted without having to resort to grind as a time gate. And as a side bonus it would make a nice marked for script vendors, so that people not interested in the physics could also go into space.

This is the old "DU should be easy to learn, but hard to master" discussion from NDA forums. And the main thing to be learned from that discussion (that NQ seem to not be able to understand), is that hard is not the same as tedious.

For example way back, NQ felt it was no problem simplifying flight physics (hard to master) claiming it was to 'hard' for players. And then they turned around and dialed the grind level (tedium) up to 11.

And as a side note. If not arguing your point of view for what you think would make the game better, then what? This forum would be pointless without that. So as long as you are on point with sensible and logical arguments and not resorting to straw man attacking or belittling people with dissimilar views, then there is nothing wrong with trying to form the game in your image. And then it is NQ's job to decide if they want to listen or not.

With asteroid mining I bet we are going to see a lot more space elevators being built to bring the ore down to markets (provided there is an actual large scale cost saving using elevators). So the collision problem is going to escalate from being annoying to a real problem.

Because PvP ship is not 1 M gun.

We talking not about some "basic raider" to harass paper haulers that not shooting back (this can be any crap with any gun). But about actual combat against other specialized PvP ships and crews -- something to be expected to see in this asteroid belts (as attack/defence force for organizational mining ops). This kind of ships much more (prohibitively now) expensive, with new industy, cores and elements losses.

Camping asteroids was the thing I was most concerned about when I first heard about them. Just look at how things are done here, if that particular asteroid with T3/T4/T5 ore is going to endlessly respawn where it is then the first thing that will happen is orgs walling that rock with L cores and that's it, no more asteroid.

Here is the error in that thinking in my view. If T1-T3 are renewable in the safe zone no needs to bother with T4/T5. They have nearly no uses aside from fluff parts. Plus if they keep these stupid bots buying low tier ore no one ever has to leave the safe zone to make $$. You can make the case for renewable T1/T2 ore maybe if you remove bots buying ore ever again. All of which would function far better after a hard wipe letting people only keep their skill points. This would likely need to be after TW and the PvP revamp , Energy , etc.

    This.

They should also reduce the amount of t3/4/5 ore on the outer planets and only have it in substantial quantities in the pvp zone.

There has to be risk and reward for obtaining high end ore. The risk means losses will occur which is vital for markets to function, and will give reason for PVP to happen.

Whilst NQ are at it they should change the mechanics of warping, so that instead of dropping out in the safe zone, players should drop out in pvp space 2 SU from the planet (maybe at one of several drop out points). Warping should be the quick travel route which carries risk, whereas slow boating (at odd angles) should be the v low risk approach that takes time. Again adding reason for PvP to occur.

Let's make all "interesting" honeycomb T1 and the T2+ variants just a black brick but with meaningful stats. Deal ?
T2+ is not a "waste" it's supposed to give you a performance/durability boost, who cares what color it is.

There should be some T1 or maybe even T2 asteroids in the safe zone to practice asteroid mining. But large amounts and higher tier ores should be limited to PvP zone.

OP. You are no bigger a player than any other. You are just a player. Might be good to start off with some humility.

also star gates will be a LOT less work than AVA. Only in a non programmer’s mind will star gates and new planetary regions be harder then encoding entire new game aspects and systems.

which is why I personally find NQ’s constant flip-flopping rather concerning.
