An economic exploit like this in a market PvP/civilization building game/time scarcity based territory control game/similar, is like modding a FPS to have a bigger head shot area for your team alone.

The devs act on things they consider important.   They are not acting on economic exploits/bugs/mistakes as a general rule of thumb.

This pretty much means that the devs are acknowledging they don't have any plans to be an EVE style economic empire building game any time soon.

What follows is perhaps the most critical thing I have said regarding NQ, I don't think it is unfair though.

Ok so my understanding is this: In an effort to fix a issue with pricing on a particular schematic someone managed to somehow set every bot order to about 1/100 of the price it should be selling at. Please let me know if I have missed something.

Now, full disclosure, I wasn't able to gain from this, I wasn't online, I am telling you now I would have taken full advantage of it and anyone who is honest knows they would too.

It might be fair for you to ask me something like "Why are you putting a post up of something you aren't even sure of?".

That question would be fair only up until you realise that nothing is being done about it, with NQ stating they were "to err on the side of caution" whatever that means.

Caution? It's a bit late for that now isn't it? Where was this caution when someone decided to make changes to live servers. I bet there are a ton of engineers and developers playing this game and almost all of them know the cardinal rule: You never, ever, ever mess with production code or data before fully testing it on a representative environment or as close to one as you can get!

By now I suspect many reading this have seen the screenshot of someone holding 112 warp beacon xl schematics, not 1 or 2 but 112, if they also bought the necessary sub components then you are looking at production of an end game item at a scale that just should not be.

NQ, where is the philosophy you so passionately and vocally used to defend the changes made in 0.23? Your insistance that having players being able to run up mega factories is a bad idea? Everything you as a company put out at that time is contradictory to the inaction on this issue.

NQ, how are you meeting the statement you made after 0.23, you remember don't you? The one that stated you would be more communicative, you would test things out more before you rolled them out, what about internally? Did you not learn from the knee jerk reaction that was the talent reset?

NQ, it boggles my mind that you don't see this as a serious problem, it isn't just about those 30 minutes and the minority of players getting a leg up it is about what comes after.
Looking at this selfishly as an example, i mine like a madman for weeks and I finally buy schematics and a warp beacon, i mine more to build the beginnings of a space station, i keep on mining to buy more schematics and before Thursday I at least figured I had made an honest dent into building a foundation in this game; those 30 minutes demolished all that work.

These points don't just apply to me, they apply to any player who wasn't lucky enough to get in on the schematic grab.

Ok ramble over, NQ it is time to point out why this is all quite disturbing to me as a player (i would hope others too):

    1. This has demonstrated a severe lack in your processes, you've lost customer confidence
    2. Your decision making in the aftermath is abyssmal; your going to do nothing?
    3. The reasoning for your inaction is.....well it isn't reasoning; 'err on the side of caution'.
    4. Your inaction points to (from more likely to tinfoil hat):
      a. You truly don't see this as a problem and are content to carry on (your wrong, it's more than just the schematics, it is the message you are sending)
      b. You now see it as a problem but you can't rollback
      c. You always saw it as a problem but you are unable to perform a rollback and you don't want to admit that
      d. You intend to wipe
      e. This was intentional for the benefit of a group of players (tinfoil yes but it's not the first time a mmo has done this).
    5. You either can't trace player transactions or don't have the time to rectify your mistake meaning this is an intensive process.
    6. Your communication on this matter has been more pointed to 'stay silent and it will blow over' rather than addressing concerns.
    7. Your indiffference to this matter

I like DU, I see the potential, but potential isn't enough, at this point features won't be enough, your team appears to be lacking process, experience or maybe just passion, that or someone is calling the shots and  overriding the devs decisions, this isn't the first simple mistake as a result of quick decision making or poor thought, something needs to change and it needed to change 4 days ago

I think the chances of them ever learning are pretty much nil. They have not shown any signals in the past few years they actually learn from mistakes they make even when they try and convince us they have and do but actions speak louder than words in this regard. They also continue to not be willing and/or able to take ownership of their actions and the consequences unlike how they address the same with regards to their player base.

Making mistakes is fine, not learning from them and remaining clueless about what to do is not.

The response is an insult to the player base, NQ appears to just prefer to throw out some nonsense, then go on weekend hoping it will all have blown over by Monday.. Next Tuesday is when the last of the bonus months expire on subs.. I am guessing that the player count will see a further sharp decline after that as many decide not to renew as they do not feel it's worth paying NQ for an alpha test when NQ care nothing about how they treat the game and the players.

Why is this such a hard thing to fix?  Just find those purchases in the database, refund the money to the player, and remove the schematics.  It might be too late by now, players may have already made millions selling them off.  But if they REALLY cared about the economy as much as they say they do, they could find out who bought one and reverse that purchase as well.

IDK, probably too late.  What a cluster****.

DU  you have to do something.   Why does the player who works his ass off to get 80 mill in his wallet in 2 months get blown past by some player who now sits on BILLIONS for no work.  Are you saying all the hard work players do to earn money matters for nothing.  Hard work doesn't get you money. Being online when DU screws up and doesn't punish it or rollback the server gets you money.   If you do nothing your saying your hardwork doesn't matter and the lucky few who cashed in on this isn't a big problem.    If you wipe  you lose a major portion of the players.   If you do nothing you will lose a portion of the players and your reputation will be again stained  (3rd time btw)  but if you check the logs and see who bought stuff in that timeframe you retain both.  Do the right thing.

At this point is not impossible, that NQ so passive about economic issues, because they secretly (as always) set their minds on some variation of wipe at "release". Like why to bother, fresh start solve everything.

OMG... All that agony and players lost to the debacle of patch 0.23.  All for nothing....

One careless NQ person really messed up the game bad. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.

Now that there are hundreds (thousands?) of super expensive schematics in circulation there is absolutely no point in investing the time and energy to buy schematics anymore.  By the way, why is there a pool of 2 million schematics available for a 47 million quanta schematic??

Isn't the whole point of the high schematic prices to limit how many factories can make an element? Then why have 2 million of that schematic available? If they had 10 sell orders each, then this massive blunder could have had limited damage.

I just spend two weeks of grinding T1 ore to buy something that is now worthless. An expensive schematic is supposed to be like a patent, it is supposed to limit your competition. You pay the extra cost for limiting the population of your industrial competitors. Now, there is no point in being an industrialist for months until the economic dust settles.

Why do I feel like I am in an abusive relationship? Perhaps I need to take up some other vice like drinking or start dating a really large mean woman with two teeth.

NQ is destroying the economy, not the players intentionally.
They took advantage of NQ's mistake.

The blame is still NQ, not the players who bought those.

I've canceled auto sub renew, so i'm quite not pleased with NQ's Status Quo choice, even though i'm not an industrialist, i find their attitude shocking.
I hope, that they made this choice because they know that in the end, there will indeed be a wipe.
A wipe they cannot talk about, because they want the players to play the game at its full potentionnal in order to make it better.
    Or,
The amount of players that took advantage of this is so small that they have assumed it won't impact the economy that much.
    Or,
They simply have no tools to take action about this

Either way, it would be interesting to let the player base know how much players took advantage of this situation in order for each and everyone of those player to judge by themselves the impact it could have in the long term.
Either way, this is hard decision.. and once again, sadly, they chose the wrong one in my opinion.
(first being to drop the Schematics prices, so you can see on what side i'm on, if any sides at all)

And here we have it, NQ is completely clueless about their own mistakes and the fallout it has on the game. Once more they allow the big orgs to take advantage of the blunders NQ makes and seems afraid to take corrective action. NQ seems entirely oblivious about their own game and in the process continues to cause damage and harm that is left as is..

Until one or a handful of players make a mistake that causes no harm really to then come down hard and ban these players from the game.. It seems NQ is hell bent of seeing their game fail.

As and example of how this should be handled:

During an event in EVE, CCP by mistake seeded original blueprints for a faction battlecruiser. Doing so causes great potential for damage to the economy of the game and so CCP immediately announced the mistake and told player  to not copy or research these blueprints and also that all blueprints seeded would be removed form the game, collected blueprints would be exchanged for copies as intended and any copied or researched blueprints made by players would be removed.

Put in the same situation NQ would not even recognize the potential damage and just shrug it off. They just allowed big orgs to obtain high tier schematics like warp beacons at less than the production cost of such item, pretty much handing these orgs free beacons, just like they allowed these same orgs to obtain scanner, warp drives an d similar items day 1 of the pre-beta by dropping wrecks with  such items in the world. And NQ thinks that is fine.

This is a massive blunder to begin with and a spineless response showing NQ really does not actually care for the game and/or it's community.

If they do not change their attitude the game _wil_ fail.

Wow, another display of complete ineptitude from NQ ?

How you can NOT roll back after such a huge market screw up is unbelievable.

What about logs? You were able to refund quanta to people who had already bought schematics when the prices were dropped. Surely you have the logs to remove the schematics and / or profits of those who abused this obvious bug?

If you're not going to do anything then at least have a fire sale of all schematics so everyone else can take advantage and catch up.

With one decision WHOLE purpose of 0.23 patch was just nullified, making very small part of player base very rich, with immediate access to end game items without any investment.

I have been patient since day 1 of the Beta. put up with mistakes , bugs, 5 months without new content, but this .... this is a last straw for me.

This project is more than likely going to shut down/go F2P before it becomes a proper game.

Its pretty obvious at this point that NQ are unable to develop solutions to the glaring issues that plague the game. You would think leaving the band-aids in place would be a good idea in order to keep your community and subs. Instead they ripped it off because they somehow thought/still think that solo/small gang players were/are ruining the game. Now all the bugs and poor game design decisions are unbearable to the normal folks, the masochist minority love it though.

Now since no one else can use their ore, the large orgs and people already with ALOT of credits are lobbying to remove bots so they can lowball ore for slave labor rates, since they themselves don't wanna mine, they're above that shit, DU is their game in their minds, you should work for them on your sub and they shouldn't pay more than 25h per L of ore. They can always place a buy order for more than that and get all the ore but nah.

It boggles my mind why they would do this to their own game and pretty much guarantee its failure. The only folks that remain are the ones that play no other games outside the space-sim genre and are hardcore fans of star citizen(no wonder).

Hmm .. ok I will bit.

My bet goes to 'energy based on territory' - but first let all people put their money into schematics and rebuild the industry.

Then introduce a system where energy is needed for the industry. Make it challenging they will say. Fist, chances are, your current territory is on a low energy tile - well, lets settle somewhere else then! Hmm .. nope to easy. Industry needs PVP (we all know this!) so lets have the 'safe zone' only spawn low energy profile territories. You want to be one of the 10%? Go to the outer planets with your industry - imagine all the possibilities here.

Ofc - this is only the backbone here. The real implementation will be well thought trough - a little bit like the market UI. One is for sure there will be math involved - like the schematics formula. A 'round carpet' maker should work for his elitist profession - maybe he should produce 'large antenna L' the schematics prices are reasonable for this formula so why not for the energy use it as well.

.. I think we will see.

You want to nerf industry because everyone is building their own 'Iphone' - fine - what are they going to do instead? What else is there to do instead?

You want to add element destruction? Great - I'm with you. It needs to happen. But maybe just maybe pairing it with the removal of the Alt-F4 mechanic, removal of Discord support and on top of that nerfing production isn't the best idea?

You think mining is too easy? Grea.....wait what....what? WHAT?! Have you mined in DU? How much? Look, ask anyone who has filled a 10L hub every two nights, there is nothing 'easy' about mining. It's boring. It's tedious. It's concentrated drudgery and one of the primary reasons I don't play DU anymore - but what it is not is 'easy' and never even in my most drunken state (and I admit I sure didn't mine sober) did I think that "Hey maybe if I couldn't link to my 10L hub mining would be better!" . In fact, when linking was broken, I just didn't play the game.

Just the fact that JC thinks that linking is the issue with mining - not literally everything else - makes me lose all faith in his judgment. Of all the things wrong with mining - linking isn't  one of them. Nor is the lack  of "mining hazards"...

The community has over and over and over asked for constructs that can mine - empyrion style - give us drills we can put on hovers - give even bigger giant drills we can put on stationary constructs. Give us anything besides handmining because 'easy' it's not - it's at least 7th level of hell grade tedium - and 9th if you have to deal with phantom nodes and pending operations. Unless of course you take my approach, get drunk and watch netflix so that the next day you forget about how hellish mining for 6 hours straight was.

Unfortunately I've remembered enough of those nights over time to stop logging in to DU...and the upcoming changes and theroycrafting about the future of mining have made it extremely clear that JC does not play DU either...he may goof around in his castle - but he sure hasn't built a mega factory nor has he mined the ore to get the resources to build his giant fortress if he thinks all those things are too easy...

Seriously - JC just logs in - looks at all the stuff others built and his take away is that mining and mega factories are too easy? It took us weeks of drudgery......I can't even...

Edit: Also - cores not repairable?! Masterstroke....
