Wow you know the game has alienated the PvP base when a “carebear” complains about not knowing PvP mechanics, and ends up only kinda bashed on the forums.

steam has gotten a lot better about this, and offline works in offline now.  used to be that Steam was in a constant war against offline mode.  Disabling all work arounds as we came up with them(for keeping Steam in offline).    But now as long as you don’t try to go online it’ll stay offline.

(felt that as a Navy Nuke.   Even EvE didn’t get the long skill queue till I retired).

One of the first updates that Boundless had was shoving inactive players houses/similar into inventory.   The devs probably regret to this day not having that on release, considering how impossible it is to get old players back after they realize that their advancement is gone.

These are not minor bugs.   These are bugs that should be caught during fundamental testing of systems.   They are bugs that are expected to happen, and universally do happen in untested games regardless of genre/type of game.   You release an MMO into an "unwiping" release of any kind without testing for the expected types of item duplication/authority/movement bugs that have been happening since MUDs in the 1990s/earlier.   (It's like the developers decided to not learn lessons from their peers).

When a character swap states that could invalidate an action (IE: putting stuff in a linked container...   After a respawn or login puts you out of range of said container), you check and test that those actions are properly invalidated.   "What happens to X after death" will be one of the first things a tester/exploiter will ask.

I, among others, have called for this several times. I have always drawn a comparison here with the Starbase progress notes, which have appeared every Monday since September 2019. Here is the link: https://forum.starbasegame.com/forums/progress-reports.38/

Either they can' t, or they don' t want to.

    But don't give me "we're a small studio" as an excuse;
    - Factorio has given a brief glimpse of what is being worked on every Friday over its 5 years of development (The studio was only about 12 people at the time).
    Have a look: https://www.factorio.com/blog/
    - Space Engineers gave updates on its development every Thursday. (Well the bugfixes fixed something and broke something, but updates were welcome.)
Have a look here too: https://blog.marekrosa.org/

I'm pretty sure there were more studios than the 3 that did something like that. I list them here because I have played / tested all 3 games.

Well we knew it was happening looking at Jita IV in EVE.    That thing sticks around even after removing the mission agents that originally made it valuable, and while being the least safe High-SEC area in the game (and less safe than most PvP areas).

If the original engine builder can’t avoid item duplication bugs, item teleportation bugs, and keep client/server terrain state synced...

A third party picking the engine up has a snowball in hell chance of doing better.

HangerHangar got a reaction from aliensalmon in Tools to facilitate socialization (emotes, voice chat, and stuff like that))
Has NQ even done basic MMO communication yet?  IE: pressing enter should set focus to chat, displaying the chat window should keep it up in (instead of it deciding to disappear), there should be some form of indication that someone next to you typed (keyboard typing emote or chat bubbles), and similar MMO standards.   The game is so antisocial that there has never been the guild recruitment spam chat that is endemic to the MMO genre.

not even following basic social  GUI design language sets DU to be explicitly non-social when it comes to ingame communication.  Likewise by ingame tools being so terrible that leaves pretty much Discord and these forums for everything, which means that you’re shoving people not even playing and playing together (Which will help population death spirals a bit with “bad reviews” in the “actual” game chat).

Why are we rehashing this one again?

While I do not disagree use of Warp technology is currently too easy to achieve, how would that change anything except for maybe make warp more exclusive to (bigger) orgs?
I'd much more prefer to see NQ actually use the talent system to both gate and optimize use of warp through talents allowing those that wish to specialize in it to train skills to become a desired character in that context.

How is that relevant at all in relation to warp? We know at which point the safezones around planets will go away

    And achieve what?

While entirely fictional, warp by definition is instant upon completion of spool up time.
    Also, for what reason?

We know this will come, I'd expect at the same time safe zones go away

Also most planets have extinction class events on them.  Along with us leaving home due to a black hole being tossed at us.

basically if a planet is in a good spot to have life it has gotten an extinction bomb of some sort tossed at it.  (Thades is the most impressive).

HangerHangar got a reaction from Maxim Kammerer in A credible source said DU might wipe, heres the reasoning as well as my thoughts
So many economic exploits affected the current economy:  item duplication bugs, item teleportation bugs, the ability to circumvent vehicle physics to move heavy loads, market 13 dropping parts of the market database, dev typos reducing endgame resources to 1% of expected opportunity cost.

so many expected mechanical features skewing the market: alt-f4 making stopping loads too easy (different from above), all ores having the opportunity cost of PvE ores, massive stockpiles from when mechanics were easier, the mods being really easy with ship teleportations, test server leak after test server leak spoiling real server exploration, and the devs clumsy with events.

    ————

this is game has had more T20 style events in 6 months, than EVE gets in 6 years (at least in game economic fallout, and in some cases even the devs fault).  It would look downright silly to not wipe.

Though honestly I don’t think it will do much to bring people back, current mechanics are so grindy/slow that you can argue for this being the grindiest survival game.  I don’t think a returning player will want to work through that mess.
