my hope is that they implement rotation of elements in more than one axis and more precise slow rotations. As of now you can only rotate in one axis which forces to use weird work arounds.(that do not always work)

I dont want to sound like I'm mocking pvp'ers but wanting for warp mechanics to go away because they don't have pvp content is laughable the amount of time ppl spend mining and building ships so they can then risk for your entertainment makes me laugh.

Yeah ganking and griefing isnt PVP content. Its catering to griefers because youre too lazy to actually come up with entertaining content.

Considering how stupidly expensive is to build now I'd say ppl will just stop going to that location if it's too dangerous, or come with a solid escort, either way you're not gonna get your easy prey.

All I can envision when people talk about warp interdiction is gank squads sitting around cackling about nuking any ship that warps in. Whats that players alternative? Oh yeah slow boat hours of RL time to get to a planet to still be intercepted by the gank squad, or add hours to try and maneuver around to come at the planet from non traditional travel lanes.

There is no simple solution here thats going to be palatable to the general player base. I would much rather see warp removed entirely and max speed cap be removed. My guess is the server tech simply cannot handle ships moving that fast which is largely why warp works the way it does.

If you want warp to require risk by dropping outside of safe zones etc , then weapon ranges should be dramatically reduced to allow some chance for a ship to out maneuver another and escape a fight. ECM or other defensive measure need to be added to under such a scenario.

You don't solve the lack of PvP by simply turning unsafe space into gank town.

It’s not player vs player when one person is flying a murder ship and is skilled out in combat skills and the other is just a hauler. Real PvP is a challenge fighting people in ships which want to participate in PvP.

if you are not finding enough people who want to participate in PvP with you than the problem isn’t warp destroying PvP, it’s a lack of people that want to be involved in PvP.

Warp isn’t free, it has a cost. These traders are making a decision, risk getting into a fight they have no chance of competing in, or add the cost of warp to there overheads.

combat ships murdering traders rather than offering them a charge to escape etc., that’s what is killing PvP as everybody has to use warp or just be killed.

You know what else kills PvP? Death cubes. death cubes for days.
I'd be more sympathetic to PvP players if the meta wasn't just "lol, I'm so good and orriginal at making ships, I made a box that goes pew pew"
Once the game gets more variety in the weapon types and maybe even an overhaul to how ships can be built so as to give pros and cons to different styles of ships, then we can start talking about PvP.

As it currently stands, all it is is "people with uninspired ships" cleaning out "people who can't reasonably fight back" or "negate the battle with warp drive". If the game persists in its current state, it'll either be one or the other. There won't really be ballance. But I have faith that the devs will come up with a solution. Till then, I could only recommend that you maybe try to fight other PvP ships to keep that bloodthirst in check? That, or you could just keep on fighting the plethora of ships that don't have warp or radars. Don't pretend you haven't.

Till ship building is elaborated a little more, I'll just stick to the tried and true "never get spotted" method.

From my perspective I expect to be able to do the level of things that I can do in any "normal" MMO. For example... I expect to be able to run standard dungeons with a group of randoms for instance, while knowing that the very highest level of guild raid dungeons that require the highest level of gear will be out of my reach. In this game, that would mean that I should be able to have a "reasonable" PvP ship and be able to participate with a group of others, even though I would stand no chance in a one on one fight with someone with the best elements on their ship. I'll list a few of the more obvious issue's I have with this game.

I should be able to build my entire empire from scratch by myself even if it takes "longer" than a large guild. "Longer" has to be reasonable, it should not equal more time than I have left before I die from old age.

PvP needs to have an option to be done SOLO. Sure, I may just be the mosquito that does nothing more than annoy the big guilds ship, but being totally excluded makes this game pointless for me.

Building needs to be able to be done in a "virtual" mode where you can have whatever you desire to build with and you leave the virtual space with just the blueprint of your creation. How exactly does a new player in this game learn to build a usable ship if they won't be able to replace one if they crash it? We are already at the point where no one is going to risk an expensive ship, this game is too buggy to safely fly now, who wants to risk losing a 400 million q ship after you've crashed it one too many times?

They're going to make their vision of a game whether there's a large or small player base.  They don't care what we think, the incoming changes are not going to be what we want, and its only going to get worse. Adapt or die goes both ways, for us and for NQ.

I was very new in DU (up till 10/12/20 anyway) and really having a lot of fun, i ignored most of the tutorial (having seen it twice on you tume) and was just itching to go find a hex on Sanctuary.

Un-eventful journey there, particularly unsettling was flying through trees only to being slammed into an invisible rock on top of a hill and brought to a halt but none the less i made it to an empty hex, had a look about and didn't see any obvious holes in the ground so thought, 'ok that's mine, mine' (pun intended).
Started with the nano crafter and a mining tool and found the talent queue.
Over the next few weeks I've managed to amass a whopping 2.3Mil in the bank, L,M,S,XS assemblers and 2 or more of most of the assemblers and i'm happy as a pig in muck, not sure if I left my hex once other than to try a test ride in a Hover then flying vessel (always carry scrap with you....) of some personal freakish design.

Take a couple of weeks off due to work and living out of a hotel room just to get home and find out about some big patch.

Oh dear, no longer fun to me in any way shape or form, I can no longer tinker with building or make even the components for parts to do what I was doing before and don't have remotley close to enough cash to buy the schematics to even think about building anything.

Suggestions from Discord - Pimp myself out as a slave miner to supply ore to someone with a lot of money.............

Sorry but a game should be fun, i found the un-sub method, have employed it and it is with great regret I've uninstalled

As an aside I still have EQ installed on my PC and an active account that's 20 years old, Eve installed and a subbed toon there that's on a 15 year old account, but no DU after just 6 short weeks.

My personal take on this is very similar to SWG, it was a thriving game, player cities, crafting up the wazoo and PvP, then along came the CU - the player base shrank over a couple of weeks and after that it's time was numbered.

I do wish you well in building a working release game but until such time as the developers and owners actually try playing the game they are creating there is no hope.

    Final thing

PvP - I detest PvP with a vengeance these days, I've had 15 years of it in various games and just can't be bothered with it anymore any game that forces me into the position of having to PvP is a no go and unfortunately DU seems to be caving in to the vocal PvP playerbase as most games seem to these days (which is depressing and to be honest they don't have a great population a couple of years down the line)

Why not have a 'PvP switch,

In the off position, you don't even show up on radar can't be targeted and are an 'Illegal Target'
You can flip it to 'On' when on a planet and after XX - say 30 minutes - it switches your status to PvP enabled - you are now a legitimate target for anyone else who has pvp up and you show on radar.
To turn off PvP, simply land on a planet and switch off, after 30 mins your status switches to non PvP
Allow say 2 state changes in 24 hours as we know all PvP'ers just love PvP so they won't mind having restrictions in turning it on and off as they would run with it on all the time anyway.....right?

Good... I'm really sorry to say, but to my eyes, they are just a bunch of things that no one cares about. There is nothing from the promised feature list, the introduction of new game loops, or quality of life improvement of core activities (like mining).

From my point of view (and I'm quite sure that it is shared by many), this doesn't incentivize people to continue paying for a subscription.

If any of the staff is reading this, my feedback from the experience I got playing the game is: "this game has some potential, but it has nothing that keeps me playing it. I bought a space building game, but  instead I got a mining game. Mining that is neither funny nor addictive".

You're well on the path of going the way of Worlds Adrift.

You want to nerf industry because everyone is building their own 'Iphone' - fine - what are they going to do instead? What else is there to do instead?

You want to add element destruction? Great - I'm with you. It needs to happen. But maybe just maybe pairing it with the removal of the Alt-F4 mechanic, removal of Discord support and on top of that nerfing production isn't the best idea?

You think mining is too easy? Grea.....wait what....what? WHAT?! Have you mined in DU? How much? Look, ask anyone who has filled a 10L hub every two nights, there is nothing 'easy' about mining. It's boring. It's tedious. It's concentrated drudgery and one of the primary reasons I don't play DU anymore - but what it is not is 'easy' and never even in my most drunken state (and I admit I sure didn't mine sober) did I think that "Hey maybe if I couldn't link to my 10L hub mining would be better!" . In fact, when linking was broken, I just didn't play the game.

Just the fact that JC thinks that linking is the issue with mining - not literally everything else - makes me lose all faith in his judgment. Of all the things wrong with mining - linking isn't  one of them. Nor is the lack  of "mining hazards"...

The community has over and over and over asked for constructs that can mine - empyrion style - give us drills we can put on hovers - give even bigger giant drills we can put on stationary constructs. Give us anything besides handmining because 'easy' it's not - it's at least 7th level of hell grade tedium - and 9th if you have to deal with phantom nodes and pending operations. Unless of course you take my approach, get drunk and watch netflix so that the next day you forget about how hellish mining for 6 hours straight was.

Unfortunately I've remembered enough of those nights over time to stop logging in to DU...and the upcoming changes and theroycrafting about the future of mining have made it extremely clear that JC does not play DU either...he may goof around in his castle - but he sure hasn't built a mega factory nor has he mined the ore to get the resources to build his giant fortress if he thinks all those things are too easy...

Seriously - JC just logs in - looks at all the stuff others built and his take away is that mining and mega factories are too easy? It took us weeks of drudgery......I can't even...

Edit: Also - cores not repairable?! Masterstroke....

DarkAster reacted to apollo0510 in Why this game is not what I expected ...
To begin with, I must admit, that the building part and the flying around part of this game is super fun and extremely addictive.
The hunt for high value ore ( not T1 ) can be fun. For a while.

And then you start to ask yourself : "why ?"

And after a while you realize, there is no reason to play this game.
You spend hundreds of hours to mine your ore, to build your base, to marvel at your latest constructions ....
... and then you look around and see : nothing. nobody.
And when you try to evaluate, WHY you need to mine that meganode, the only conclusion is, fear.
Fear, that sombody else might take it away from you.
You have to be first, or its gone.
That is the driving force in this game.

    And honestly I hate that.

I have decided, that this game is not good for me. because of that. In eve online I can go on holidays, and rest assured, those belts
will be fresh and juicy whenever I log back in to continue my gameplay.

Same in World of Warcraft. I can stop my progression whenever I want, log out, have a good rest and sleep well, and continue my
    gameplay happily some days later.

Not this game. this game destroys real life.
Because its main gameplay is driven by this instinct, that one looses stuff when NOT playing.

And of course I simply miss content. I honestly expected to find a better eve online here.
I was looking foreward to build cannons and shoot everything thats moving in space.
Now guess what, nothing is moving in space.
I did not realize when I subbed, that the devs clearly ruled out NPC combat. ever.
Not my game. sorry. I am a mission runner.

    Again, not my game.

Well, and the bugs. Sure, its a beta. I have been watching what the devs are doing during the last 4 months. I installed some logic gates on a dedicate wall with some buttons. And after every patch I tried the buttons. And after every patch, those super simple logic gates still failed. For 4 months. And we are talking about a super stupid XOR gate. Every day I was fighting my way through the silly login crashes. And I was wondering : " If they can not fix a single XOR, how on earth are they supposed to EVER fix that complicated crash when the game engine is starting " ?

In other words, I lost hope, that this game could turn into something that I like.
Thats why my sub is running out.

Bring content, and I will have a look again. And no, nobody can haz my stuff.

it is possible to have more information concerning this sentence it remains rather vague ?
what you need to know that your game is very unstable crashes occur at any time and for no reason in its own valid, the current advantage is that your ship stops immediately and does not move, which avoids a lot of destruction against the planet or other and to remove during the beta this option of stopping the ship you must guarantee that the players will no longer have crach and if this option is removed and that people will lose their ships at cause of unintentional crashes soon you will have no more players at all while the game is not even released.

If I can't maneuver tool the voxel board that Yeeted itself 10km away back to my base, then what do I do? Fix game breaking bugs before nerfing the tools we would use to compensate for those bugs.

The Alt-F4 was used to compensate for flaky mechanics. Fix your game before nerfing the tools we use to make this game bearable to play.

And nearly nobody travels at sublight speeds anymore, EVERYONE warps. So this nerfing of Alt-F4 only hurts those trying to not have to repair their ships over and over because of game-breaking bugs. And combined with the fact that elements will have a fixed repair amount, you are going to have people ragequitting in droves...

Also, maneuvering tool and parenting are not bug free currently so the limit seems a bit much for the current state of the game.
