It is a paradox. The game has so few players that it feels empty, but at the same time the planets are so small that a dedicated group can literally scan everything of worth in a short time frame.

So to sum it up. Broken game design, is broken..

Explain how "not giving perms to dishonest people" is supposed to work, though...? How are you supposed to know who is or isn't honest in a game, especially one where there's no repercussions for stealing because NQ insists it is "emergent gameplay"...?

Theft isn't "emergent gameplay", because theft is literally just using RDMS as intended -- emergence is an interaction of features, not using one feature exactly the way it was coded.

It isn't "gameplay", either, because it has no consequence -- PvP is barely implemented and there is no reputation or legal system of course. There is no gameplay whatsoever around theft.

It's the game's job to manage ownership and property in a way where everyone can contribute to orgs without the org crumbling because a legate gets bored and tears it all down.

And let's be honest, when NQ had their market destroyed...they responded with bans...so maybe it's a bit silly to suggest that the end-all answer is "just configure RDMS right" when even NQ has made mistakes.

TonyTones reacted to CptLoRes in Do you think Dual Universe is good sci-fi?
DU is lousy sci-fi, since there is so many inconsistencies and hardly any correlation between what you do in the game and the technology available. So a more correct term would be space-opera.

For example everything must fly in DU, but there is no advanced technology or Lore or anything in the game that would justify a society based around flying.

And one moment you have nano transformers doing hand-wavy magic and resurrection pods that can transfer you across the universe in a split second, and the next you are running around picking up glowing rocks from the ground.

Kinda reminds me of Star Wars where people are living in a western movie but then suddenly have all sorts of crazy technology for whatever fits the short term narrative, without any thoughts as to how having access to such technology would impact a society as whole. I mean just take a look at something as simple as the invention of the iPhone, and how much smartphones (and the internet) has changed our society in a relatively short time.

There are tons of good ideas in these forums - even some concerning the server-load long term to help them keep the costs down.
But whatever NQ does is totally weird, if the honest intention of NQ is to keep the game alive.

Bring back classic mining and fill those damn holes after 1-2 month if nobody was there again.

Make some energy limitation PER account to reduce to much load from factories. So the Multiboxer still have a reason to multibox for what they're happy to pay.

There's multiple formula which might work perfectly for DU. But NQ just cant or wont find them.

The rat race discussed on the topic is just an UNBELIEVEABLE thing to me. Ridiculous.
I really blame NQ to let the game die, obviously. I'm not playing the game since release because I'm not fancy to loose all my progress again. And this will happen for sure, somehow.

You are not alone on that.

I used to strongly dislike ore mining because it was such a repetitive task. But never in a million years did I think that NQ would find something even more repetitive, pointless and boring like the MU's to replace it with.

And it is sad that the few times NQ as truly been able to surprise the community with something, it has been in a negative way.

I think I'm just tired of playing a game that's not working. It's a grind anyway and now even the grind isn't working.  The game was more fun in Beta and they've just ruined it. At least for me.  I'm sure others will disagree, but for me, I'm tired of the server issues.  These aren't the first and I don't think they're going to be the last.  And I don't think they really know what they're doing, tbh.  Sucks.  Could have been such a cool game.

TonyTones reacted to Wyndle in Lack of roadmap kills motivation
With regard to the current roadmap and our current condition in relation there needs to be open communication.  Failure to communicate at this point only ensures further negative sentiment, if any.

I personally have difficulty handling negative feedback; I get it.  The game industry is a tough beast to saddle and ride with the MMO being the bucking bull of the metaphor.

If one can't deal with negative feedback then WTF is the thought behind developing a PvP anything?  Any project with any amount of niche or potential will hold sway over a small segment of dedicated players but will never rise to the level of MMO Community without communication.  Final call:  step up or quietly accept failure.

This is meant as a tough love message to NQ.  You've already alienated major segments of your dedicated player base.  You've already blown your shot at attracting a big wave of new players via Steam.  You've already started the slide down the slope towards game death.  If you have any fuel left in the tanks it's better to dump your current DeltaV into escaping the gravity well of certain failure than to try to slow the process of crashing on an unforgiving hostile planet with no hope of escape.

TonyTones reacted to le_souriceau in QUESTION: Where is the new Idea and Suggestions Sub Forum?
I think actual plan is: once they have their metaverse bs (whatever it is) rolling, they will merge DU into it, using local builders as sort of advertising machine for whole thing.

So, while DU obviously (at this point) non viable as stand-alone MMO, its still very useful asset to incoporate to any metaverse scheme to boost it credability as something working. Like look at all stuff we have, and its proven by time, blablabla, vibrant community, blablabla...

Eventually we likely see some abomination frankenstein of what left of DU, attempt to go Second Life again + some of this google maps selling metaverses scam. 3 in 1.

I could live with the bugs and performance issues if there only would be gameplay. Currently the only reliable way to get cash for taxes are NPC missions. DU is a sub-based sandbox MMO with a main gameplay loop that would not even be sufficient for a free-to-play browser game! I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

Please have some respect for the devs. Coding DU is bad enough, being required to actually play it too feels like just kicking someone when they are already down.

I know how many of us feel about NQ, but please find some mercy in you for the devs - they've suffered enough without having to play DU.

I don't think this will ever be completely fixed.

IMO, massive battles in this game will never be possible...it struggles to scale even with a low player count on a platform famous for on demand hardware -- if they can't make the stack work even with so few players, it doesn't work.

Unfortunately, very early on they believed they had invented groundbreaking tech that would make the game scale...but this was also from someone that hadn't worked in gaming before...

The academic theories about how it "should" scale in the real world were never challenged, tested, or fully understood.

Their early prototyping was not done correctly -- someone with experience in gaming (or tech in general!) would have known to challenge the many absurd ideas or assumptions about this product that never were never realistic, especially around scalability.

The technical core of this game was based on foundations of sand, which makes the game's many design issues even harder to solve...but also means that issues with lag will never likely be solved, even and especially if they somehow manage to attract more players.

You are doing a good attempt, the main issue is that NQ does not listen, else we would not be where we are now. They killed over 50% of the player base with 0.23 and they did not give a shit about it. even when the advanced test group adviced Not to implement 0.23 they did not listen as Negative comments are not read, only positives. (NQ staff told us themselves)

So with that this forum is just waste of time to us all, why still write? because we are all sadistic to our own.

Lame stream without any real announcement, you continue to brake all time all our hope in this game NQ. Please reconsider how you manage this game and what players really want.

3 months before the first patch, 3 months with a Beta wipe into another beta with the exact same bugs but with less support and no help ingame anymore (Thx to Ligo who spend hours of his time for solve some of our problem, without him all my ticket go 0 reply in months), 3+ months without change the wrecks, the ore dispatch, roids... All this topic was oppened months before, we warned you and YOU NEVER LISTENNED YOUR COMMUNITY except your biggest carebears who just think about themself and their [filtered]ing pets.

Your priorities are bad, as usual, and you never learn from your mistake... We don't work for this game but some of us paid years of subscription for support you when you need money, but personally I didn't pay 3 accounts for years for let this game die because of your choice.

We are still here, stop [filtered]ing ignore us.

So, that was the "Exciting News" we were supposed to look forward to?
Two things that by all rights should have been in during beta, and a whole bunch of fluff (emotes, suit skins and pets?)
And this will happen in 2 months?

One has to wonder just how dull things are around the NQ office when this is considered "Exciting"
But hey, good on you for the grid snapping and the scrap thing. Better late than never and all that.

Pretty much all the T2 has already been claimed.

many newbies will only get dregs and the asteroid system is obviously not working. You know you have a problem when there are less asteroids than major orgs.

It is clear that NQ have created a game that will create a first tier of unmovable, impenetrable incumbents and leave nothing for the second tier.  Kinda like their ore.

now if they brought in a planet where the ores shifted gradually over time that would be far more viable long term than the current system but totally unrealistic…

As it is, all the planets are basically pwned less than a month after the game went life.

knowing that they can never find anything other than T1 again means many miner type players have left.

Imagine creating an MMO where nearly all the key central assets are permanently locked down within 30 days without a chance to ever challenge them.

thades is dotted with hexes that have a single TU and a single mining node.

zero development, zero building, zero “sivileyezashun”.

“but more planets” I hear some say…  sure another couple of week’s “gameplay” and those planets too will be devoid of anything but T1.

to end my rant, or as the younguns like to say, TLDR:

The game is a paradox. It feels simultaneously deserted yet at the same time, the logistics of this game is only suited to  support triple digit player numbers maximum and is flawed at such a fundamental level that NQ will need to pull something spectacular out of their collective… hats … in order for this game to last past the year in any meaningful way.

Excuse me, but I think it's a dream that this game is no longer a beta. Also that it should have a value of 12,99€ (times Euro in my room). When I launch the game, which is more like half a game with no content, it will compete with real games bulging with content. How, please, does this price reflect the content of the game? Then please, slap a shop still in the game for cosmetic things so you can survive financially.
