ship parts factory hole was me fixing ww's wall misalignment lol. When I entered build mode when Snipey was nearby it crashed my game and caused that silicon on the pad (he's redoing landing zone). Pretty sure hole in trinks' factory is a random door opening.

I was overflying that area just now!
I reckon MP3 might be one of the most developed spots on Madis.

Now with our train running North East of our base, we have a 12 tile stretch!

I always thought that patch of voxels would resolve to a QR code or something. LOL

I've only had the invalid cell on planetary voxels...   But usually a reset fixes it.  Sometimes I have to plop a massive ice cream scoop of voxels over it and whisk them away to remove the blemish...

One section of planetary voxels with a bug had a window to the soul that if you stepped through, you fell into the core of the Madis. Always wondered what would happen if you threw a dynamic core construct in there.

Alright I had my hopes up because the REALLy buggy hole at the parts warehouse looks fixed but over at one of the manufacturing plants I found:

and of course there has always been this

I did not see some of the old ones but not sure if that means that is fixed or that I don't know how to "trigger" it.
Gaelyn just now mentioned that he is still getting it on his MTI cathedral.

Originally, early access should have started last November / December. Since all tools and engines are developed in-house, I have no doubt that they know what they are doing.

They are very down to earth, have always communicated excellently. As I am in closed alpha, I have also always been pleased to be able to show things as they are in the game, as there was no NDA.

I expect there will be a big rush in June. I'll give a real conclusion after 2 weeks. But since they don't overhype things like No Man Sky, I see no reason for it to be bad. Everything they've shown in videos, as well as the weekly stress tests, have done the job. Whether the servers will last, I don't know. But the gameplay scenes shown can definitely be experienced.

And if things don't go as they should, they're more likely to be forgiven in their persistently community -> thanks to their superb communication over the last 2 years.

At €40 for access, FB stands to make a reasonable chunk of cash on the 17th. As far as I know they are in a different boat than Hello games was as they have no major publisher forcing them to release while they know they're not ready. And at this point I'd hardly call NMS a failure.

It's more likely they fall into the same hole NQ did. If their server tech falls on it's face on release and they are not able to fix that quickly, they'll be in major trouble.

A game like this will hardly ever have a smooth release as it's pretty much impossible to predict how the networking will hold up. And with expectations being sky high and at the level of a finished and done game instead of another Early Access Alpha/Beta I expect to see a similar pattern as we saw with DU. Difference is that I believe FB has a better handle on their process and is more experienced and "road tested" as a game studio than NQ ever was.

The success of SB does not ride on a smooth launch, it rides on how fast and how well FB get it back up and running after it falls on its face come 17th June. Being on Steam will mean many will pay, try, fail and refund within 2 hours.

NQ themselves decided to turn away from the vision 2 years ago when they said they would not release AvA at launch - an argument that for an unknown number of people was the reason why they invested money in the kickstarter campaign and have enabled investors and other players to become aware of the game. The community laughed at the people who remarked that something was wrong and this is an issue. Instead, the community said that everything was fine and there was no need to get upset. Instead, you should drink your Kool Aid and put on your rose-coloured glasses.

But here's the plot twist - those who drank the Kool Aid and wore the rose-coloured glasses, I see today in the Starbase Discord and that they are totally looking forward to the early access on 17 June.

This vocal majority no longer plays DU and has moved on. I haven't seen any more of them in DU.

The amount of resources sunk into construction across all of our Madis tiles is truly mind boggling.  The amount of meganodes stripped for it all, people wouldn't even believe it.

Frankly I think @Sycopata pretty much hits the nail on the head in his OP..

NQ's failure to deliver is not because the developers they hired are not able to deliver. I do not mean this to come across as demeaning to devs work but they are there not to design a game or make a mechanic work. They are there to write code. They are the very professionals who could have made the game work and who could have made the game be way further ahead than where it is now. IF the managers directing them and giving them their work allocation has an actual plan and strategy to get to where they want to go.

The problem with NQ is that at its core it was made up of JC and some of his "friends" with early employees being granted powers way beyond their competence while ferociously sticking to "the vision" and never even cared enough to actually take note or and listen to what the community had to say.

Much of the problems the game has today were seen or predicted by many in the community as far back as the last few months of 2017 once pre-alpha opened. The biggest mistake NQ made was to not allow the facts of actual game design and development allow the vision to shift and change to accommodate what was achievable instead of what was envisioned. Up to the point where the vision of JC smashed into the wall called reality late last year, all we got was "you just do not understand". Well.. guess what, we do and did and the one who actually did not understand was finally ousted and has now left NQ.

What will become of NQ now is unknown, while I had hope for a positive outcome early April, by now I do not think that NQ will have a chance to survive I'm afraid.  The total absence of any sort of information from the top, not a single word from the new CEO nor any official press releases about the change in leadership leads me to believe that NQ was given a bridge capital to allow them to continue at a minimal sustainable level while a more permanent financial solution is sought out or a decision is made to turn off the lights.

Everything NQ has done since beta has been focused on bringing cost down, first the "big database rewrite" and changes to industry to reduce the IOPS activity and with it the server cost which went through the roof as "beta" hit. Then schematics to further reduce the biggest drain on funding, again being the server cost, then the support BPO contract being terminated, removing live online support and finally the removal of JC himself late March. Since then, development has all but halted and so far the only thing on the table is the changes to screens which again, seems mostly driven by a need to reduce server interaction/cost and the announcement of mining being shifted to a numbers game, removing actual digging and actual ores being in the ground entirely. The mission system if delayed and I can't help but wonder if that too is because the load on the back end and the IOPS cost of that would be something NQ can't afford.

Right now NQ has basically removed any and all commitment to releasing anything and the updates we've seen so far are pretty much indicative of maintenance mode. NQ seems to be waiting for funding or closing shop after a sale.

The problem with this game: The developers who make decisions, make them thinking about how difficult they are to implement, rather than thinking about how important they are for the game to work.

The game requires: Extreme consumption of materials, so all the mechanics of the game would have to consume materials, including industry, maintenance of territories, cores etc ... Use your own brain.

Introduction to PvP through PvE, as it is implausible to think that the non-hardcore player is capable of introducing himself to PvP dominated by expert players, in a game where PvP does not admit any errors.

Division of PvP zones according to difficulty tiers, separating resources into zones according to distance and adding wealth of resources at a greater distance from the safe zone, the random distribution of things and the existence of mega nodes in the safe zone was not very smart , the game map has to be above all a player distribution tool, not something purely aesthetic and subjected to a roll of the dice, Games like albion online, they have redesigned their map many times, because they understand the importance of a good field of games.

Facilitate solo combat, it is very difficult for PvP players to emerge and more complicated is that you manage to coordinate with another PvP player, collective combat will always have an advantage, but do not prevent personal progress, since honestly most of the time it is a single player who is that pulls the cart, and it is not very motivating for a player like that to think that at any moment he can run out of options if his partner fails him.

A sandbox is not fun by itself, that is why they are always installed in a park where there are other elements that children play with when creativity runs out, do your part to create the rest of the things that a park contains, instanced pvp modes, where you can design your ship and put it to the test in a training environment could be a source of learning for both players and developers.

I think when our Logistic Lead Officer crashed his baby it cost so much and took so long that you probably wouldn't believe me if I posted it.

Not for the casual player that keeps loosing battles.

And you know what DU needs the most? Casual players.....
They pay a full subscription, while being online a fraction of the time.
They have a fraction of assets than hardcore players, making their infrastructure requirements smaller.
They attract new subscriptions to the game. As they spend more time with ppl outside the community compared to hardcore players.

yes, that's because 'leaving it up to the players' DOESN'T WORK as a strategy to build a good game. It's lazy and short sighted. Want PvP? Then STRUCTURE IT. Want 'things to do' game content? STRUCTURE IT. Until then....Dual Miner will be just that, until that goes automated and they take the only thing to do in game away, then it will just be DUAL.

0.23 was a great example how to shoot of not only your own foot, but your arm too, part of your ribcage, your gender materials and about 70% of your brain.
The total ignorance for people who abuse errors did the rest. If the intend was to loose about 80% of the playerbase to reduse lag, Mission accomplished. If it was to listen to the players and make the game more attractive so more people would play and stick with the team, fail.

Any update after 0.23 is technically waste of time and cash as the damage done in 0.23 cannot be undone, even not by revoking 0.23.

At some point in a relationship you sometimes have to recognize when it is becoming toxic due to the inactivity or inability to communicate from one or both parties.  Once you are sure that a relationship has passed a certain point then usually there is only one outcome that is logical, and a lot of people here have already passed that threshold weeks ago.  More are getting to that point.  Daily it seems.

It hurts the most when you know the relationship could be salvaged or at least extended just a bit with better communication or a tiny bit of effort.  Then your heart breaks when you never hear a word or see any of that effort put in and you may never know the whole story of why.

After the 3 dev blog dump the only thing of import I read there was

"We want you to stop mining planets so we plan to add new mechanics so you dont have to dig"

    And

"Our databases are imploding like black holes under their own weight.. we seriously underestimated database load... the sub fees cant cover the costs.. but dont worry we plan to find a solution"

It was nice to see a vague and indirect admission that the tech is fundamentally flawed, even if they did basically say "omg.. why are you guys digging so much, our servers cant handle it... we had no idea about this thing where players will grind for hours.. it was impossible to anticipate that players will grind so much"

The part where they talked about it as some kind of profound learning experience and I was out..

Seems like NQ is always saying that kind of stuff...

"Omg.. what is this 'grinding' ?didnt expect that"
"Omg Death cubes.. what is this 'meta' thing? Didnt expect that"
"Omg.. most players are solo playing... why would they do that?"
"Omg.. most players want to just have fun instead of being part of complicated organized societies.. why?"
    Etc...

Yeah... real groundbreaking profound realizations there.

So I just played some solo games..

    any new signs of hope?

I dont see anything except some improving docking stuff.. cause yeah.. that should be priority lol

Meanwhile sb has solid roadmaps and is clearly growing into a good replacement for 99% of playerbase... sure they have a more limited building and coding system.. but if anything that give me faith they are seriously aware of where bottlenecks and overload will popup.. plus actually structural integrity and good ship and ava pvp...

Looks like I should just wait the 1 more month till sb ea.. am I wrong?
