Get ready for my rant.... 3.. 2.. 1..

Hi there, I am wondering if the community has changed.
From artistic builders to people who only want to make money or destroy things.

I see a lot of chatting going around, it only is about how much money you can make with the new mining units. Nobody talks about a building project or anything. New players come into this game and I only see them chat about how to make quanta. Its all about which tile brings in the most quanta, not even if it has a great view, a nice river or anything. They might as well just have flat surface planets because people dont seem to care. I have NEVER seen anyone chat about how this unlimited ore can help you with your giant build project.

Its all about quanta, quanta, quanta. People who are making billions, and for what, retirement?
This is a voxelbuilding game with superior voxel-tools and lots of players are only talking about how to make quanta.
And what will they do with all that quanta? Nobody knows
With all this unlimited free ore, sanct should be looking like coresant in a few months, but Im sure that will not be the case. People will only sell ore, it is not meant for building anymore.

Talking about making money so much, that NQ is even considering a wipe now, and lots of peeps are like: no biggie, as long as i can keep my bp's (and with bp's, they mean a bp for a hauler to make money). NQ can consider a wipe, because the majority dont seem to care about builds.
In that perspective, NQ was right to implement taxes. If that is what the majority of the community wants to do (make money), then NQ has given those players a purpose.

And this is a voxelBUILDING game, so whats this complaining about PVP? Why do people enter a building game, only wanting to destroy things?
Because it is not about building or design, its about assembling the most powerful destroyer possible. Not even the best looking or anything, just to be useful and destroy as much possible.

And that is, for me, the reason I cancelled my sub. Not just because of how demeter or NQ changed the game, but also because I do not feel at home between these money grabbers and destroyers. This is just not my kind of game anymore. Im sure that if I come back and take a peek after 8 months or so, there are less builds then there are now! And thats a very amazing trick that NQ has pulled of in a persistent voxelbuilding universe!!

No offence to anyone, we are all different people.

Maybe talk to NQ, as their marketing strategy was to get people who "like to destroy stuff" in the game. All their big flashy promotion videos have pvp.  Same with the recent one about asteroid pvp. That video had 100k views.  All over QnA videos have like 4k.

Unfortunately, with the introduction of Schematics, you won't get very far without Quanta. If you want to build something, first buy the schematics for it. Depending on what kind of schematic it is, the costs can go up into the billion. It continues with the introduction of the mining units. No quanta, no mining units and no tiles. So it is not only up to the players but also to the gameplay that is currently available.

The problem is that NQ has changed the game in such a way that you are basically forced to bring out the calculator or a spreadsheet to see how much you need to make to pay your taxes and see what's left after tthat to do anything else.

And so far, it seems most will just need to go back and make more money to get ready for the next tax bill.

maybe, just maybe, this is because players are now required to pay taxes?
I'm one of those builders who were scanning, selling and buying the past 2 weeks, even tho i normally wouldnt do this, and this is simply because i have more than 5 hexes where i built purely non-functional stuff and need to finance it. But whenever i said, that those taxes will kill large projects everyone only answered "but you have 5 HQ hexes, learn how to make quanta"
But at least i have found another quanta faucet now, getting stuff from the ppl i played with a lot and who left over the past 2 weeks.

    Unhappy.

Tax system / auto mining is a daily chore that is not fun. On top of that it's currently buggy af - every day half of my mining units fail to produce surface ore due to bugs. I've lost more  than the weekly upkeep of a tile just in lost ore.

Upcoming voxel changes. The Complexity Chunk tool is very inconsistent. If they go live with this in a future, and don't give us snap-to functionality in the vertex editor, then voxelmancy will nerfed.

Upcoming brake changes. I altered a bunch of ships, and built some new ones, around the brake changes on PTS. In the AMA they said they've changed it yet again, and in a more negative way from my perspective (have to face up now, rather than forward, meaning no more hiding them under voxels except for the front). More ships made useless, or ugly.

Upcoming wipe. Looks more and more likely from NQs comments, and consistent economy bugs that they have ignored. We were told no wipe after beta! More wasted time and effort.

In summary, not much fun left in the game, and most areas of the gameplay now feel negative due to poorly implemented 'fixes' (/future fixes) aimed at reducing their operating costs, rather than changes based on improving gameplay.

    Unhappy as well..

The need to login every day to recalibrate my mining units is making me question whether I finally give the game up.. I was hoping they would relieve the boring part of the game, in order for us to be able to focus on building the exciting parts, but since the update, every time I log on, I play the same mini game 6-9 times, and then question what I'm doing with my life and free time. I really think the answer, to my problem with the update at least, is to shift the timeframe we need to recalibrate things from a daily chore to weekly or bi-weekly chore. The thought of needing to login every day to play the same mini-game is killing my desire to anything else in the game.

Guess they could all go slave... I mean join orgs and get exploited for crap compensation by experienced players right? ?

Update: Making this clear this is a sanctuary tile with ore not respawning.

Im sorry, but 10 hours to rebuild an m-core? I think YOU are trolling.
Even with the ore present, you would still have to fabricate the elements. On a decent m-core that would be at least 10 L engines for atmo alone. Never mind the other elements.
An L-core takes 3 days to produce and thats just the core.
Impossible to do in 10hrs. I would say. I have lots of L and XL containers, please tell me the amount of elements you have and do a realistic calculation of how long it will take you to rebuild them. Your base, storage, ships.
Im sure it will take you at least a month of subscription.

So it seems you dont mind paying for a game and waste your time doing the same stuff twice. Thats not something for me to be doing. My time is precious to me.

Its these 'positive lies' of players like you that try to convince people that the game is still simple, easy and the same as NQ is advertising, while it is not.
This mining system is only nice if you are into making money.
If you entered this game a year ago to be an artistic builder, then the game has now changed for the worse.
    That is a fact.

Keeping BP's, as some mention, is really dumb.
Like, what do I need a BP for when I have a 175 core base, and aligning bp's is a pain in the *ss.
Also, most of our bases have large landingpads which are just flat area's to park on.

I really dont get the 'wipe and keep BP's' comments, but  pretty sure the comment are not from builders

As if, it doesnt take time to get the materials to build up your base again.

This game SEEMS to only have players left who want to make money. This is no building game for them, its a business game.
Just money money money, its not like peeps are talking about building projects or anything. Just about how much money they can make.
Not about the amount of ore they can get for their project.
NQ even pushes and promotes people to sell their ore for money and not use it for building!!

In that perspective, NQ has gone the right way with this game with demeter, since the artistic builders have left the game.
Now only pvp and money makers remain.

To me, I am like the OP, a builder and I liked the game for that. Had a max of 55 mil of quanta, just because I won a game in chat (50 mil). I was happy, I had me stuff and when I needed more, just went down to a planet and mine for more materials.
It looks like that the building part is very much gone. So Im out to look for another game... Like Starship EVO for example.

I first played DU at the beginning of the UKs first lockdown, so around 18 months ago. I was drawn in by the promises of the marketing: that I could forge out any path I wanted - I could be a builder, trader, explorer, be part of an org, or go it alone. My experience was off to a shakey start with a buggy intro, but I knew it was a ‘beta’ so I persevered and was hooked. I became obsessed... I loved it.
After a disgusting amount of time playing non stop, I started to make progress, bought my first warp drive, built a space station and some little bases dotted about, life was sweeeet. Then #23 hit. Massive bummer.
I took a break for a couple of months, and came back, none of my mates did. I assessed the damage, regrouped and started again.
It quickly got really boring - really not into PVP - and dont have the funds for it anyway, but kept going with the promise of the new asteroid gameplay (thought I might risk some super-fast prospecting). Turns out, this isnt for single, newish, resource-poor players either, but nothing in the promo material indicated this would be inaccessible outside an org with deep pockets  (or, of course, an early player whos taken advantage of the abundant ore, bugs and exploits). The new announcement of the features of Demeter frankly spells the end of the downward trajectory for newish players like me. Theres no way to really amass the resources to access interesting play outside joining an org - which wasnt the reason I signed up. No doubt the game will continue to have draconian brakes applied through money & time sinks to curtail the large orgs and mega factories, but it feels like the game has shifted to cater to these, whilst simultaneously trying to save server resources. There needs to be a realistic and honest disclosure of what the gameplay is for new players, ie. join an org if you want to play beyond a few weeks.
I tried to play today for the first time in months, the new warp drive speed seemed like the perfect, sad metaphor. Warp Cells are ridiculously expensive, DSATs are beyond ridiculous both in scale and cost - the game feels joyless now, where it used to feel alive, vibrant and full of possibility.

Its a huge, huge shame the direction the game has gone in, it could've been so good. But thanks DU for a great experience while it lasted,  it was a great escape for me, for few months at least...

    - HQ'ed tiles I wanted to keep
    - Moved to Space
    - Tried going back to Sanctuary.
    - Reduced My Expectations
    - Even used a Beta Key to try restarting new...

I can no longer enjoy this game in the current state. There are jobs I have hated that were more exciting then the daily logins to Nanny your Mining Unit. Until the developers change the Mining Units or implement a new way to progress in the game there is no point in playing. I gave this update a try, I took all of the advice, and the progression rate which was already abysmal is now unbearable.

I love this community and the people in it, even those I disagree and fight with but I just can't DU it any longer. Not until they fix things, which is unlikely, cause they don't care if players leave.

    Original Post:
I will be taking an extended and potentially permanent break from DU.
If you see me log in, it will be to kick (calibrate) mining units, post a haul mission, and sell things so I don't lose tiles.

It is clear the developers don't respect the players or their time, and if the tax situation doesn't get fixed with the falling ore prices, no point in owning tiles to earn a little more than break even.

    Also Sanctuary sucks...

( will be placing everything of value on HQ tiles to ensure no one scalps my stuff.)

I started playing with a friend about 10 days ago. We have had a lot of fun sofar. Although the "old" mining system was more boring than watching paint dry, doing it together and chatting a bit, made is slightly less mindnumbingly boring. We have built a little base for ourselves, created an organisation that claimed three adjacent tiles.
In building all this up we have not built up any stockpile and therefore at the time that Demeter dropped, we had empty ore containers and 168 Quanta between the two of us.
We somehow managed to get 4 Basic L mining units up, generating 194 units of ore with a current value of 7.865 Quanta, per hour. In three days time we need to pay 3 milion in taxes.

This we cannot pay. Considering our current income, it would take 381 hours to mine that. And this bill is recurring every week. In other words we are bankrupt.

I just wish that the taxrate would increase with each additional territory (and possibly give the first one or two tiles for free), just like placing each territory control unit gets more expensive. we still very much are n00bs in this game and the learning curve is already very steep, but from our point of view the Demeter patch has killed any chance for new players to get a foothold at all. I would have loved to see space and other celestial objects and perhaps even some PVP...

Anyway, we really had a lot of fun, but right now there is no point for us to continue playing. Our small base is at ::pos{0,2,56.5535,-170.9944,32.7241} it should be free to loot in a few days.

The game feels not rewarding right now. I can just build nothing. And i play this game just for building things.

His point is the huge wall between you and even getting to that point in the game. Starting from scratch right now is insane compared to yesterday, unless you do pure org group play as a noobie it'll be a huge grind to get established as a solo-player compared to before demeter.  Oof.

As an established player, these changes are rough- but for new players starting out... it's near pure brutality mode now.

The mining units just produce 20l/h and with my charges i can substain 4 units (6 hour chage cooldown and the units need a calibration every 24 hour). Thats 80l/h, 200L every day on T1 ores. Can someone explain my how to progess with this kind of yield?

Before Demeter i mined around 20 000 ore per day. I see no way to get into space with just 200l every day.

I have to say Demeter pretty much sucks so far.

After spending eight hours scanning I found one hex that only sucks badly and a bunch of hexes that suck horribly. I grabbed the one that sucks badly, cause I don't have any reason to think I'll find anything better. If the ore market doesn't collapse it might pay it's own taxes. Fun on a scale of 1 to 10: -5 (that's minus 5).

The calibration minigame isn't as much fun as hand mining... by a long shot.

My friend found a hex that could produce 60kl coal per week... under optimal conditions... and said "not bad". (That does suck less than anything I found). He used to mine 600kl in a couple of hours. Slow production 100 fold and what happens? Economic collapse.

    Not optimistic.

Just a friendly heads up and warning that those with alt accounts will repeat the imbalances from mission running their alts, and the economic gap between non-exploiting and exploiting players using alts is just gonna keep growing and probably wrecking the economy. Also don't expect alt account players to lose too many tiles... this will just impact those of us to play on a single account.

Are you ready to be placed at a further disadvantage?
