The following is a list of player suggestions for minor improvements/modifications to existing gameplay features. If you have ideas that fit within this scope then please reply with them below so they can be added to the list. Just keep in mind that this particular thread is not for requesting new features or major feature reworks, as those are more deserving of their own topics. Now without further ado, here is the current list:

    General Gameplay
Ability to quickly replace/swap existing elements without altering position. (discussion thread)
Adjust the appearance of purple voxels to be more purple and/or add purple to the list of available plastic voxels.
Holding down a direction key should continually increment element/voxel positioning while in buildmode.

    User Interface
Add option to hide items currently out of stock at the market. (discussion thread)
Add icon to indicate the current state of interactable marks ie. the V-key. (discussion thread)
Provide a means to distinguish whether a destination's waypoint is on the opposing side of a planetary body.
Add a shortcut to view an item's associated market page either via the right click menu or by inspection.
Add or associate icons to the various item categories so players can more easily distinguish between them.
Change the default quantity for market orders to 1 unit.
Allow for keyboard control of commonly used user interfaces ie: market, inventory, organization, barter, and RDMS.
Add a button to the territory management screen that allows users to quickly deposit/withdraw from org wallets.
Expand VR-Station search functionality to include owner and location categories.
Expand Mission search functionality to include issuer and or organization.

    Player Vs Player
Add unique identifier to the default radar widget to allow players to more easily differentiate between targets with the same name. (discussion thread)

    Lua Scripting
Expand lua script access to the whole keyboard. (discussion thread)

    Launcher & Client
Further clarify the various login error messages to give players a better sense of the problem.
Add more links/references to important DU resources (Code of Conduct, Keymap, Wiki, Tutorials).
Allow players to perform manual integrity checks on their gamefiles outside of client updates.

Balanced feedback is important because the devs need to be able to distinguish which particular things the playerbase enjoys/appreciates vs dislikes/laments. This however becomes very difficult when feedback is unspecific and/or one-sided. Simply put, if you only point out the positives then the devs wont know what needs improvement just like if you only point out the negatives the devs wont know which parts need to be emphasized. If there is absolutely nothing you like/hate about this update then it is fine to state as much, but at the very least try to be specific about exactly why you feel that way.

    My thoughts

I personally do not enjoy industry gameplay because I find it rather mundane and repetitive. I do however understand that many others enjoy it and that this change is significant for them. From a macroscopic perspective I believe this change makes sense and @TobiwanKenobi already did an good job outlining why and so I don't really have anything more to add at this time.

    Quick Summary

I have read through this entire thread and these are the main issues players have identified thus far, roughly in order of popularity.
Its tedious to have to constantly refill schematics copies on industry units. This places a soft limit on how many things a single player can produce at once. Thereby placing an emphasis on group play or using alt accounts to further production goals Thereby creating a relatively stagnant endgame for industry players (Note: conflicts with "the factory must grow" mentality) The justification for this change is not clear enough and the intended outcome is difficult to comprehend Schematic prices/copy-times do not align with current production rates and will lead to price corrections. Lore wise, this change implies that Aphelia has substantial control over Noveans whereas an emphasis on self-autonomy is preferred. Additionally the nanocrafter not requiring schematics could use some elaboration. Generic schematics based on element tiers feels different and there are some conceptual size discrepancies like large detectors that add confusion. If you would like to help contribute to the discussion, consider commenting about how you feel about the above points, offer suggestions on how to address them, or identify additional areas of concern with respect to schematics. Please try to be productive and stay on topic. Cheers!

Schematics are now player created. When in game press Ctrl+K to bring up the new schematic interface where you can queue up any schematics you wish, provided of course you have the necessary quanta to produce them (note limit is 5 production slots right now). After a preset delay the schematics will become redeemable and you can add them to your active inventory. Thus there is no requirement where you need to visit the market to acquire schematics but these player produced schematics can still be bought and sold there similarly to regular items. All of the new schematics are now single run copies and the infinite run schematics from before have been completely removed with quanta refunded to their respective owners. Lore wise I believe the story is players are essentially copying the master schematics that Aphelia has stored in her databank and she is effectively charging a small fee for this service. It is unlikely that we will ever have access to the master schematics again but these new copies may eventually be added as rewards for various Aphelia missions or special events. Hope that helps.

Guys, these fees and taxes are not only necessary, they're beneficial to you. The game needs quanta sinks. Without them there will be inflation and everything costs more. You lose purchasing power either way. Remember when hematite cost more than 100 q/L? This was because missions were pumping billions per day into the economy. Now missions are nerfed. People think of them as pointless - why would I want to fly 7 hours for a only 8M quanta? But after the wipe things will be different. If inflation is kept down missions remain relevant. A XL package mission might be enough to buy a M-core ship, or whole megaliter of T1 ore. But only if quanta is leaving the economy down the drain of sinks.

The players demanded cheaper territory taxes and NQ gave it to them. Now NQ has to make it up in other areas. They have metrics about the quanta coming into and leaving the game, and they know how much sink and how much faucet they need.

This system is smart because it continues to be a cost burden to industrialists for as long as they continue to play, rather than one lump sum for an expensive schematic that never needs to be replaced. In this way, the economy remains steady. No mega-industrialist who bought every schematic in the game 2 years ago and now provides 25% of the elements needed for the whole playerbase. They will have to rely on you to produce their items, buying your schematics from the market.

So you can recoup the costs of producing the schematics by just selling them on the market. The market value will never be below the cost to produce unless the item is just completely unwanted. So in a way, this system is actually an EASY INCOME for players. Just use your slots to produce desirable schematics and sell them on the market. Free money for you.

With the information that has been provided by since the schematic changes have first been announced, I thought I would give some more detailed feedback. As you are keen to rush this straight to the prod server, I think getting early feedback will be useful.

    Looking Good
Adding an additional time component to the industry process looks like it will an effective and fair way to reduce the ability of any one individual to mass produce items, at least without a large quanta cost. This seems to have the potential to be fair, if the numbers are tweaked properly.

    The Economy
This additional dependency on Quanta is problematic for the economy I think. It would not be the case if the economy was in better shape, but as it is we are suffering from massive deflation due to the large quantity of currency leaving the game. This is an entire topic of its own, but I will just say that I hope you have further plans to fix the economy. Your concept of "faucets and sinks" does not work in a real economy. Maybe in a single player game that works, but in a real economy, currency should circulate --not be created and destroyed--.

    Tedious
If the system works as described, where players need to place schematics into each assembly machine, this will make the process quite tedious. This is not the tedium of hard work that is rewarded, this is tedium that is unnecessary and will not be well received. Existing industry players will react poorly, knowing how pointless this exercise is. New players will quickly find it laughable. The consequences of this type of manual process will be numerous and negative. Organizations that run factories will not be able to easily manage feeding machines with a small number of players. This means expanding access to factories to a larger number of players, which is a security risk and would be difficult to coordinate.

    Suggestion to Reduce Tedium
Please create a way for players to interact with the factory as a whole. Since connections cannot be made across cores, a factory can be considered a core with industry elements on it. Perhaps an industry element, like a schematic catalog machine, could be created that would be one per core. Link a container as input to this machine and let schematics placed into the container feed into the catalog. Once stored in the catalog, any machine within the factory could be allowed to use the schematics within the catalog. This would allow management of a factory to continue much as it does now, with schematics becoming another resource that is consumed as it becomes available. Even smaller player factories would benefit from the design immensely, as this would remove one of the most hated aspects of the 0.23 schematics patch. Larger org factories would take much less tedious planning and tracking of schematics, as well as the chore of feeding the machines. Members could donate schematics my leaving them in a container and any schematic would be welcome and could eventually be used. The catalog machine could be quite useful in a factory, showing schematics that are stored as well as schematics that are needed to allow stopped machines to run.

I understand from your most recent video that you do not want to further automate industry, and I understand that desire. Implementing some way to feed schematics into the appropriate machines automatically would allow factories to be managed in a very similar way to how the currently operate. It is rather fun running a factory currently. If you feel factories need additional balancing, please do it via means other than intentionally making it miserably tedious.

    Wallet
It is not clear in the video where the money to pay for the schematic copy will come from. I take this to mean that it comes from the players wallet? If that is currently what is planned, please consider adding an org wallet selection. Transferring money between players constantly is a real pain and that is what the wallets are there for.

    Thanks for your time

Great episode. Thank you for also taking the time to showcase the new interface.

One point of concern seems to be what will happen to industry units that are currently processing regular schematics when the update hits? Will said industry units be paused? Is there anything we as players need to do to prepare?

Msoul reacted to NQ-Sirg in Intel 12th Gen & Dual Universe
Dual universe uses AVX instructions available on all major CPUs since 2011. We don't require AVX2 nor AVX512 because they are not as common.
This is particularly relevant for procedural generation and even on modern machines, it is a valuable optimization which saves the CPU for other things.
We don't do this procedural generation on GPU mostly for numerical determinism. We need the client and the server to generate exactly the same thing. This is typically not possible with GPU computations.

Intel 12th gen CPUs come with two kind of cores:
High performance cores are fast and can handle complex instruction sets like AVX
Low performance cores are slower and only support a limited instruction set

The downside for high performance cores is that they take more space on the chip and they consume more power.
For situations when computing power is not relevant (like IO operations), it makes sense to execute tasks on low performance cores. It also makes sense to have heterogeneous capabilities on your CPU as in the end it translates to a more capable chip using less power (your slow IO operations don’t take precious time from your high performance cores).

Note that this kind of architecture is not exactly new and smartphones have been using this approach for years. Now the problem is, that this is kind of new technology for regular personal computers and the support is not completely there yet. Ideally your OS would automatically detect that a specific program needs high performance cores (it does it to a certain extent). In practice, this is not fail-proof yet. From what I could find on the subject and based on feedback I have from Intel, there should be ways for an application to request to run on high performance cores. I’ll try this approach in future months. In the meantime, as suggested by others, there are workarounds to disable the low performance cores

    Hot Potato

    Event Description:

I am tentatively calling this idea Hot Potato but feel free to use whatever name you like and modify the specifics as you see fit. The focus is around transporting "bombs" between the district buildings as quickly as possible. These bombs are unmodifiable (DRM) constructs pre-programed by NQ to explode after being piloted for more than "X" minutes cumulatively. An NQ staff member is stationed at each district to distribute/collect the bombs. Players need to pilot their district's bombs to another district before they explode to earn points. However, every enemy bomb that successfully arrives at your district loses points. Will you be able to coordinate with your fellow team members to outperform the other districts? Will you be able to reach your destination before the fuse runs out? Or maybe you just want to pull up a chair and watch some fireworks!

    Sample Ruleset:
NQ-staff at each district will spawn in and maintain a steady supply of their team's bomb constructs. Participating players can freely choose the district they want to join and may defect to another district at any time. Players earn 1 point for their team by getting their district's bomb within 1-2 tiles of an enemy district. Teams also lose 1 point for every enemy bomb that arrives within 1-2 tiles of their district. At the end of the event the district with the most points is declared the winner. Developer mischief is permitted. Implementation Requirements:
Design the "bomb construct" and install/create the associated self-destruct/cleanup script. Include custom names/markings to allow players/staff to easily distinguish between each district's bombs (ie: BOMB District-1, BOMB District-2, etc) Ensure the bomb constructs are not modifiable or compactable and can be freely piloted by any player. (Optional) Further enhance the experience with variable fuse lengths or a variety of challenging construct types/configurations/control schemes. The NQ Staff member stationed at each district is responsible for: Spawning in their district's corresponding bomb constructs. Keeping track of arriving enemy bomb constructs and subsequently de-spawning/triggering them. Recruiting/rallying players to join their team and coordinating the attack on enemy districts.
Feedback and suggestions for improvement are appreciated. Part of the motivation for this event is to stress test the districts ahead of release so the more participants the better.

It would be nice to have an Element Replace Tool which would allow us to replace elements with same elements different tier/modification.
Some elements on ships are placed on wierd positions/angles or in very tight, precision spots, and it's very hard to replace them with higher tier analogs by removing and placing new one.
This tool would allow very simple tier progression for ship, so you can upgrade it easily when have access to more powerfull elements.

The more places there are to explore the better. There is no problem with The Exchange existing. I just hope that it will be well managed. I think it is foolish to just assume that it will somehow be a failure.  Surprisingly anyone who thinks that they can curate a better collection has that opportunity.  There have been several such locations in the game already. The exchange will be nice for those individuals who don't want to get involved with an org, but still want a central place to show their stuff. I don't see the exchange replacing the player created showcases. There is no way that the exchange will have as much hands on involvement it would need for that to happen. It seems more like a replacement for the Market Advertising clutter.

It's easy to say that you simply shouldn't pay if you don't want to, but some people committed to longer-term subscriptions.

If I decided to start a 6 month sub right before they announced that they might wipe, I'd feel a bit ripped off at this point...especially since a big part of the pitch to join early access was persistence. Yeah, in that case I think a refund isn't so utterly absurd.

Forums in general are not a place for pure fact and objectivity -- even if they were, it isn't like we have the capacity to know facts beyond what NQ shares with us.

Speculation and emotion is a part of every community. Anyone that's ever engaged in online discussion should temper what they read with this understanding.

People have a right to be emotional and to speculate -- speculation and emotion is just one element of discussion. Speculation is a useful facet of conversation -- people speculate about history and politics because it leads to interesting thought experiments and "what ifs" that allow us to wonder about an ocean of possibilities.

I do agree that there's an important distinction between complaints, emotions, and speculation and outright hostility, lies, and irrationality.

An obligatory reminder: this is just a game for us...for those people working at NQ, it's their livelihood and for some, the last 5-6 years of their career.

As emotional as players are, those that have spent a lot of time and energy working on the game are even more emotionally invested and likely even more acutely aware of the uphill battle NQ has in stabilizing and scaling their company. So...say what you want, but it's worth remembering that behind this game are a lot of likely overworked and underpaid human beings that have a lot more at stake than any player.

If this is truly the conclusion you have reached then so be it, but I would offer you a word of caution. Be wary of speculation and those who promote it. Its a tool often used by people looking to manipulate public opinion by appealing to cognitive biases rather than facts. If your not sure what that means then I strongly encourage you to look it up, there are countless examples. Also take a look at some of the common logical fallacies as that will help you identify flaws in reasoning and manipulative behavior.

Truthfully, there are many possible reason's for NQ's current stance, or lack there of, but they are not supported by factual evidence and therefore only serve to detract from your argument. Your actual criticism here is that the lack of information is unnerving and harmful to the community. Make that your focus, provide concrete examples and suggestions for improvement. Put in the effort, a hundred weak statements and offhand comments will never match one well written argument.  Also keep in mind that any support you gain from being disrespectful or cheeky is short lived as those same people will have very little respect for you as well.

You clearly have passion for DU and care for the community so I hope you stick around and manage to keep out of trouble. Just stop throwing tomatoes at the devs. Its not helpful to your cause and will only lead to NQ being more reserved and less forthcoming with information. The community needs to maintain a healthy relationship with the dev team and if you want to act as a negotiator then put down the fruit and instead make yourself open to discussion.
