geronimo553 reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Creative mode
    Hi there,

    It's true that:
    - Massive Constructs "battlestar cruiser" size or "death star" will require incredible amount of resources and may not (or hardly) be possible to build alone.
    - We don't plan to let players import design from 3D tools like 3DS Max, Blender or Zbrush.

    However:
    - It's also true that trial & errors will have a massive cost in resources if designing/prototyping a very large of spaceship must be done in the "real" in-game universe.
    - It's also true that it would force all large ship designers to get huge amount of resources just for designing, not even for building. The ideal situation would be that the designer role shouldn't be tied to gather huge amounts of resources (this should be left to the production role).

    In conclusion:
Yes, having a creative mode inside the game, just for designing purpose (without giving any free resources in the "real" in-game universe) is something we are considering.
However, this is a huge feature to develop, and while we would like to add it to the game, there is a high chance it won't be implemented before the official game release. If it's implemented at some point, it will be probably after, in an expansion.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

This took me far longer than I wanted to spend finding it, but it is something I support whole heartedly.  Sometimes you just want to try a design or a theory in the name of science.  It would allow us to also learn the physics and metrics of how the game world works and how each element interacts with it.

More on topic, I know Space Engineers had a limited promo of being able to print your ships...but I don't know how that panned out or what the specifics of it are.  From what I gather now, it doesn't seem like they do it anymore, and it doesn't state why.

I feel like permissions for exporting could be something baked into the blueprint itself (sell the usable one for cheap, sell the blueprintable one for a bit more).

geronimo553 reacted to Borb_1 in Combat, Is it to soon t
Yes OP, that's Alpha 3, so if NQ are on time, then we'll be seeing some combat implementation within 12 months from now. Account for some likely dev delay, it still should hover around about ~1yr + or - some months. So still less than years ie 1.x yrs is a healthy expectation.

As to combat, I don't think it will follow a regular RPG form of combat? What we do know is that one of the original EVE designers is now working on DU with NQ so that might influence some of the combat systems? Seems a fair bet.

That said, there's some very different game play factors which it is possible to speculate on with no little degree of future relevance: A large ship NEEDS a large crew to successfully fire all weapons. And repair "on-the-hop/double" mid-battle. This multiple human input into a sizeable craft and they can scale enormously from 1-person to >50ppl (we don't know how many actual weapons and systems a ship can carry (I presume they'll STUFFED full of them though given the sizes we're talking about and the room to hold lots of people (hopefully doing something useful!). So big ships more like death stars vs x-wing/tie-fighter: I put my money on the death star ship.

Then think about a similar sized-ship with low quality equipment vs one with the best quality (this too will be wide in range).

It comes down to the behemoth ships likely requiring a huge industrial-complex BACKING them to then kick ass against other ships in space ship battles. Obiously a well run org too with good organization of players.

As to solo-ships: It seems GREAT VARIETY might be possible at this scale of battle. I don't think it will come down to some sort of dog-fight star-wars battle but more like something from Space Engineers Eg

Pretty sure something like this will be the case, with only basic resources on Alioth.  What it should hopefully do is encourage people to start shipping in ores from other planets.  Alioth will have the most demand, plenty of people will try to supply, I know I will be.
I agree 100% that any peace should be player made.  I still think you wont find many of the key resources on the home planet though.

Well, let’s state some hard truth as well:

How many orgs are just talking about their grand plans with the game 2 years from release believe that it will go exactly as planned?

How many orgs are expecting their members to perform an exact job they are assigned to do, throwing the rest of the game aspects away?
    that won’t happen!

How many orgs are expecting to build up a mega city and not to get blown up half way into it by another org that forms up on the day of release and looking to just build ship and pvp?
    that won’t happen!

How many orgs are expecting to be a company designing ships, but have absolutely zero infrastructure and no one “feeding” them resources?

how many orgs are signing contracts and treaties and dreaming that the two parties will keep the contract intact for the next two years?

The horizon project might seem absurd, but he’s just dreaming like pretty much every single orgs are doing right now. With the game this far away from release, all talks are dream talks and I don’t see any problem with it

situation one: people need mass transport, especially to large city's. Single person travel will be expensive and lengthy due to the fuel costs, not to mention if someone gets lost or their ships breaks down. The New Horizon does this on a large scale to minimize the costs for the average player.

situation two: Running out of fuel isn't an issue, We will stock up before every voyage and make sure nothing happens. We aren't stupid and will plan ahead before every voyage.

situation three: Raiding is certainly something to consider, why do you think I'm recruiting security teams and escort ships? I wouldn't do this blindly and its going to take place far after launch.

Besides people that can't dream never achieve anything, wait til after launch  and you might see The New Horizon  doing great things. If you wish to bring this further I invite you to the discord.

I want this to be handled by players. Just like in some minecraft servers where players make the rules and repair, dismantle or remove some work of some douchebag. Want clean cities? No broken/mined out spots? No abandoned constructs? Remove them. Fill it up. Repair it.

I like the idea of the player's body being persistent in the world. I do not play Rust, but I like how players cannot simply "disappear" or use other age old methods of exploiting a game to win, such as combat logging. Having a logged out player inside a cryopod or some kind of shell/case would be easier on system resources to complete. The cryopod does not have to be transparent showing the body, a simple red or green light will due for indication of occupancy.

As for a person logging out at random, the system would need to leave the body or basic human 3d placeholder in some type of form or another to comply with the meaning of persistence. I really hope NQ will add these features!

Hmm well if this is the general accepted consensus, I agree on several points being made such as building on unclaimed land. So I will plan my future strategies accordingly.

However I still do not agree on the notion that any claimed land appears on a public map for all to view. I believe that should be the option of the owner to decide or to only be displayed to their organization. By default it should be turned on, yes. But there should definitely be the option to turn off this highlight from public view.

I would love to see a planet with caves big enough to fly through possibly all the way to the core so you can get lost trying to get back to the surface. Basically a planet with like 30%cave and 70%matter. I imagine you could make really nice structures or cave cities in there and have a different challenge in finding and mining resources. It may not be very realistic but hey that's what games are for right.

Yeah i agree that the information about where is place of hex that got claim shouldnt be view from a basic map, Intel always a critical resource to the surviving in wildness (remember before the modern a detail map used to be a military information because it show the graphic and the road of area ).

That is private, it not private now day because of globalization and modern thought. And people dont shot other people (usually not ) if they have land conflict.

But in the end the risk for being claim should still there because it is wildness after all but i think a solution:
Instead instantly grant you the ownership of the land, it should take time to claim depend on how many construct in the area that is not own by the one place TU. So that people inside that hex will have time to prepare :
    1. Move your stuff to somewhere.
    2. Trade with the owner of the TU so that you can still live there.

That's only in the us though. You can get parcel maps from nearly all countries, but here you'll never get the owner Name for free.  You have to play for it and tell the authorities why you need to know that name.

As geronimo said, it makes sense for DU to show basic information (like the parcel eg  hex) but imho it's way more entertaining if you don't get free Intel on tiles

As for the topic at hand, I think the game would greatly benefit from a sliding blast door/plating to cover windows during combat. In SE we have to turn doors sideways or using buggy pistons/rotors to create window covers. It would be wonderful is DU can with a purpose built option for this additional protection.

It would be great, yeah. I think that if trees, lifeforms and ecosystems would be only a decorative or residual thing in the game, then we wouldn't have learnt much about the "lessons of the mother planet we left behind", before arriving to Alioth... So i trust that the game developers will put each thing in the right place (and indeed I feel that they're are doing the best they can).
Because if nature and its species wouldn't be, at least, an important thing, what kind of civilization simulator (and ecosystems and universe) we would be creating?
Although we know that this wont be a survival game and it seems we've created a way to survive swallowing yellow pills when nobody is watching, it would be great to give a basic healthy impression about the elements and things in the game when is launched.
Because the importance that is given to certain things will have obviously an effect (aware or subliminal) on people minds, mostly if they are pretty young.
So lets not forget too much that we currently cannot feed ourselves with money or oil... and so on, and so forth.

I agree with you on that, Its strange to have claimed lands visible on a map so you can just look for a place to rob. Probably the idea is that its simpler this way to find free land but the opposite will happen and people will be under attack. Your solution is simple but effective, just turn it off, like a beacon on a map, turn it on if you want to be seen, or Off if you just want to be left alone.

So according to the views I am reading here. The general consensus is, if person A. finds a lovely place to build a home or a rare mineral location and decides to build a large, expensive, and none movable construct there, before having the funds to purchase a TU. Then person B. who already owns a TU, can decide to claim the land from person A. because person B. will own all rights to build or evict whomever is within their claimed territory. Leaving person A. with a construct they can no longer build and possibly now with a giant energy shield around their construct.  This would be considered "fair" game and intended game mechanics from what I am reading.
