Ill just second the notion, we have a chance to see a truly great game and excellent MMO created in our lifetimes. I've been dreaming of it for a decade or more. Should the people I've met while we wait on the forums be my friends or foe's in the game, well, at least there may come to be a sandbox with beauty, depth, and choices of the quality we all have desired for so long.

So as most of you know there was a small meet up and livestream with JC tonight. I was there with a few other people and got to chat with JC and see the version of the game they currently have.

While I was already very excited for this game, and confident about it's future, I am now doubly excited and confident in this project. For so long this game has been nothing but a few trailers and a forum to me, so to finally see it in person was incredible. The game was not perfect; there were some bugs and moments when things did not quite render properly (really they just took a moment to load in) but the sheer immensity of the game and the moments that created were astonishing. Watching the sun peak over the horizon, and the shadows being cast by objects in the world. When JC got lost flying between worlds. Zooming from the surface to orbit and then back to another point on the surface. Pointing to a spot in the sky and then flying to it, only to discover a whole new planet with entirely different terrain. Looking at an island from space and then Zooming in on it to see just how big it really is.
There was moment in particular that struck me: JC was showing us Alioth from orbit when suddenly a large dark spot started to move across it. It took a moment for us to recognize what was happening; there was an eclipse going on. For a game this early in development, the world already feels quite vivid and immersive, and I'm sure it will only get more refined as time goes on.
JC himself is also quite fun to talk to. His enthusiasm for the game is quite evident and his passion is contagious as I could not help but get more excited the more I heard him talk. He is both the dreamer who dreams big, and the realistic one who can make those dreams into a tangible reality. This game could have no one better at the helm than him.
Having seen some of the backend technology that runs the game, I can attest that this game seems to be literally built for success. It's built to deal with the challenges of a single shard mmo voxel based game.

In summary, NQ believe in their project and they care about their community. The biggest thing that strikes me is their openness and honesty; the way they present their game is sincerely genuine. They truly believe in DU, and that makes me believe.

Dual Universe is going to be amazing.

Dreamstar got a reaction from Deacon in Price model, SAY NO TO MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION!
The claims you make about my financial reasoning are false.

Cash shops do more damage in terms of content than good. Instead of releasing content for players to explore in game, such as a tailoring class, and making the blueprints to making clothes available in game somehow, you simply whip out the ol' credit / debit card and buy some magic gold coins to buy all the skimpy bikini's and school girl outfits you can handle.

For the exact reasons you said about greed is why if the game is either free or buy to play + cash shop is why I'll abandon ship. Voxel building or no voxel building, I wont stand for being nickel and dimed to death anymore, with a subscription at least I know what Im signing on for.

If they implement new clothes in such a way, that you could buy the DU "Plex" and convert it to tokens, AND they are permanent blueprints that you can learn for your characters. I might be ok with that. Or allowing players to buy and sell the tokens on a currency exchange in the game. An exclusive real money only cash shop, or BOP one use items, no get out, its 2016 its time for freedom! It's time to drive any company that goes Free to Pay into the ground.

Dreamstar got a reaction from Dociel in DevBlog: Resurrection Node Mechanics
Going back to review the plausibility of a resurrection node. I was actually woken up today, may 25th, by this thought.

It's possible the universe doesnt care too much about you being alive or being dead. and that the RN is able to present an argument to the fabric of time space saying "Hey that person isnt dead they've been standing right here." Taking only the energy to produce a wave strong enough to counter argue the universe.

The universe attempting to keep its substance unified, just goes "Oh, my mistake" and will begin to recreate you from the most recent point it thought you were alive. Resulting in you being "Respawned" on the RN pad.

Think of it like a puddle of water, and something causes a ripple, this event was your death. This machine the RN says these ripples arent true producing a counter ripple that negates the death ripple from its location. And thus causes you to ressurect on the pad.

If a principle that all matter exists everywhere, but is awaiting input from a stronger force, probably time, location, and quantity. I suggest that when the machine makes the argument you never died and the universe goes "Ok, lets see." It performs its checks to see if you already exist in order to prevent a single line paradox, because if you did exist, it would probably make a fork in the road producing a parralell universe instead of breaking an already existing timeline.

If you were dead, it would make a bridge gap between whatever point it thought you were alive at, and the time that the machine is saying you are alive now. Bringing someone back from a long time ago may not be possible due to some kind of degradation of signal or the initial Death Wave is too far away for the Negation Wave to ever catch up, or even that the death wave already moved through the entire puddle and there isnt anything to Negate anymore. Or bringing someone from very far away for a similar purpose of wave degredation.

The difference between say, the machine being told to recreate a broken ship, and recreate you, is that the universe knows that the iron exists somewhere else already, but when it checks for your consciousness and doesnt find it, it thinks  it has messed up and then attempts to correct itself to prevent a rip in the timeline.
I would ask a theoretical physicist for an opinion. or someone with a good understanding of math. If someone is really interested in making the RN work as realistically as possible.

For me it works out that they are doing the space suits. Also, it's not like every scientist dropped what they were doing just because the world was changing. I think its highly likely that the fields of longevity and genetic therapy continued on. Theres plenty of people going for the mind machine interface path instead of a purely biological immortality, Im sure they got close to mind upload or heavy cyborg-ification.

So the fact that we're all in suits, and you cant truly tell whats underneath works out pretty good for now.

I intend to go on and roleplay being a kemonomimi, a person with human and animal traits. Cat, Fox, Dog, Wolf, would probably be some of the commons, and if they do go on to make more suits it wouldn't be that hard to accommodate a few that have extra earspace for the niche. If they made human models, it would not be so difficult to make a few hairstyles that remove human ears and replace them with a few animal ones.

As for cyborgs, I mean, same deal theyre pretty much humans with tech replacing organic portions of their body, or even being an entirely synthetic human.

While yes it is more work, they'll have plenty of time after release to focus on adding some of these flavor enhancements.

Dreamstar got a reaction from Pantydraco in Subscription should not be its pay model
To be as honest as possible the subscription model helps keep masses of unwanted trash players, that will never spend 1.00$ on the game, out of the game.

NovaQuark should not use the Titanic game model that has been going ever since WoW took over the MMO market.

Can anyone name me a memorable free to play / cash shop game that they have stuck with and played for any length of time? They don't exist.

Planetside 1 in its time was vastly more fun than Planetside 2 will ever hope to be.

TOR, Wildstar and all the others that start as pay 2 play and go free to play is because they overhype and break the ship in half. There's nothing wrong with their games staying pay to play, but they don't want to put any effort into making the game better so they cop out ditch the sub and put in a cash shop.
Nobody is happy with 50,000 to 300,000 active subscribers anymore its laughable that the industry thinks the gold standard is reaching 1 million active sub's minimum to keep a game alive.

WoW and EV.E are the only successful games out there, though both of them are bordering dangerously close to failure with their cash shop's.

If you overtap your playerbase for money they'll burn through the content and ditch the game, sure you get a quick buck, but eventually your' game becomes lost in the wind of all the other free to fail games.

Once you start putting shares, quarterly revenue reports, and stockholder opinions above the quality of your' game you've lost, you aren't a game anymore.
All they care about is hyping stuff up in order to drive "traffic" into the game, and subjecting them to the highest degree of advertising and pressure to buy garbage from the cash shops.

If you like the sound of this game, if you want a community, if you want content, support the developers in their quest to return the glory of subscription's.

I don't have any personal issue with side effects, crazy as I am, I'd just as soon as repopulate the species with a bunch of genetically modified people grown in laboratories. forgo the traditional mating process.

And I would with the most minimal reassurance that it wouldn't kill me undergo the processes to alter appearance. Being able to create a stand alone species with its own natural reproductive means isnt that important. If you can grow humans in the lab and mutate them, good enough.

I played a twi'lek I know what it is to give up stats for appearance. This situation isnt any different, let me be a smol (exceptionally small and adorable) fox girl, ill take the debuffs, -strength, -int, slower learning, +agility, longer range target acquisition (not actual longer fire range though).
But the whole stats thing is relatively unnecessary, I think its commonplace that the pioneers will have the nano former and probably some sort of mind machine interface. Everyone will have the same stats except for what you train into, or select on character creation.

Im really just suggesting this as a possible enhancement of the physical avatars down the line, post launch. What does it hurt to pursue it, if you say it isnt realistic, I don't know what you mean. There are already groups of people supporting longevity and genetics research.

The main question is, when can you call something that you have created a new species? After the change of 1% of its genom, 5%, 10% or even 50%?
1% maybe even 5% would be pretty easy, the only thing you have to do is cleaning the genom of broken genes and the kind that would be likely to be mutating, and fill the created gaps with more stable and desirable genes. Is this already a new species or is it human because it is still made up of human genes?
Or a other question would a human with cosmetic changes on genetic level like a fox tail and ears (without the better hearing) still be a human or would he belong to a new species? This is probably a more philosophical approach but still valid i think.
