Is the Release client completely separate from the Beta client?  Meaning - should I plan to do a full download before launch?  And if yes, when will the Release client be available for download?

And actually to complement your comment about nested game services, the Steam version will not launch the DU launcher and instead go directly to the game.

    Dear Noveans,

We have a brief update on the upcoming changes to the blueprint deployment tool.

We had hoped to implement the grid-snapping feature at launch or in the first update after launch, but we’ve encountered a delay. We recognize that this is an essential tool for players to rebuild their multi-core constructs, and we’re working hard to implement it. You can expect it in one of the first updates after launch.

The voxel swapping and element omission features are still arriving with the launch.

Thank you for bearing with us. Rest assured that this is one of our top priorities.

According to NQ in the latest stream you will be able to substitute one voxel type for another when placing a blueprint but I think that is not coming until after launch. As for substituting elements they mention that you will be able to exclude elements when placing a BP. It seems that you would have to add the t1 engines manually after excluding the higher tier engines when deploying the BP.

It looks like you will get most of what you are wishing for but not until after launch

Has there been any MMO launch that didn't have server nightmares?  The devs can estimate demand and plan server count still to be blown out of the aether  by being more popular than anticipated.

    Hello everyone,

I really like the game so far, it has been a struggle to figure things out. If I didn't have help from some viewers from my twitch stream over the weekend, I probably wouldn't be even writing this right now. The point is after getting the basics down, I like the parts of the game I've experienced so far.

    THE ISSUE
I couldn't figure out how to do much of anything useful from the tutorials.
The goals board in your starting outpost has a ton of "WIP" stuff.

With Steam release pending next month, I'm seriously worried that without a proper non-broken tutorial that at times doesn't even match the current UI (market, I'm looking at you), players are going to leave in droves.

For a sci-fi game about space, the tutorial leaves much to be desired, such as showing a new player how to get off the starting planet.

Please consider working out some of the tutorial bugs, fleshing them out, and adding more relevant ones in the time-frame available. Steam is a big door to the gaming community, and I don't want to see this game get review bombed and dropped on it's head. It has potential, but needs to retain players.

    Thank You.

I've put together a brief infographic to help new players figure out what they could do after finishing the intro tutorial. It's not meant to be a full guide, just a jumping off point to give some direction. Image here, but also on Reddit in case it gets downsized.

Imagine adding a real time sound element like sonar/echo location/ping on a submarine.  To the trained ear the tone, amplitude, and intensity would be able to tell the player what type of scan just hit faster than they could read a message about it.  Talk about immersion!  There's the gentle sweep of a wide scan like a handshake between players saying, "Hello to anyone out there, I am in your local space."  There's the deep bass thud of a directional ore scan that will lead to community discussion about checking LoS before performing repeat scans.  Then we have the trill of the hunter's ping that raises the hair on the back of your neck with the slightest increase in amplitude and the haunting feeling that something hungry is watching you.

    Hey Noveans!
You are an amazing community. I would like to thank each and everyone of you for helping make this launch announcement such a major success! Internally, we had some goals for our wishlist on Steam, which we thought would be enough to help us get visibility on the store when the game launches (that's how Steam rolls...). We are just so happy to report that we are about to reach that goal IN JUST THREE DAYS!!!! This is incredibly promising for the launch of Dual Universe and we know we couldn't have done it without you, our awesome community of dedicated and passionate players.
It’s time to double our Stream Wishlist goal! Let's make DU the surprise hit that we all know it can be. Please continue to spread the word about the wishlist to show our love and passion for this game. Together, we can DU it!

Again, thank you SO MUCH from all of us here at Novaquark.

I too would like to see a "permanent" belt of rocks.  Perhaps when the tech is ready that can be the physical divide between safe and not safe for new solar systems.  No belt, no safe zone other than Sanctuary if even that.

Edit:  If such a thing as a belt is used to divide safe/not it should span 80/20 with only 20% being in safe.

These moonlets may be an ideal place to "land" space only ships in static constructs.  They have potential as dry docks for building space only ships.

Just don't double jump, they look like they are still within the gravity well of the planet.  The only time I landed on one to see if there was ore I had to push my jetpack to catch my ship before it hit atmo.

Wyndle got a reaction from DarkEvader in DUAL UNIVERSE LAUNCH DATE - WISHLIST US ON STEAM - discussion thread
When Eve launched it was an entirely different online world.  People born in the year Eve launched can legally drink in multiple countries now and everywhere within a few years.  In the early 00's negative online reviews had less impact on algorithms putting stuff in front of people; most people didn't know how to find reviews (or that it could be part of a search term).

I don't know the specifics of how Steam moderates reviews but I do know that trends get some weight.  With bot farms in play it only takes one troll to seriously hurt a game.  I'm sure Valve has tools to deal with some of the fake reviews but it may take time to find and fix, costing the affected game days or weeks of growth potential in the meantime.  If NQ is in a make or break period and get slammed with repeated and/or distributed malicious review attacks it may not matter how good or bad the game really is.

Oddly enough, the Steam service launched the same year as Eve.  I'm pretty sure I played Eve long before I installed Steam.

Stuff like this doesn't help either.  Thanks for pointing it out DarkEvader; NQ has the opportunity to address it and similar issues prior to launch.

Perhaps instead of buying 12 types of ore and manufacturing the 16 materials you can, instead, just buy the 16 materials from the market instead?  That seems like a much quicker way to go about things and it would be less talent-point-intensive too as someone could specialise in making each material and you can specialise in the talents which speed the actual warp cell production.

Alternatively if you're making everything yourself from scratch it seems to me that the effort of making the schematics will be much lower than the effort required to mine all the ore and collect it on one place.

I get it and I'm not trying to tell anyone that they shouldn't feel upset over how it played out.  The distrust and pain of the community is squarely on NQ's shoulders for how they've handled things.  I have also been vocal on these forums with my perspective trying to help some understand that everything I was seeing screamed "Beta is Beta,"  and a ratcheting probability of a wipe for Release.  NQ could have been more up-front to prevent some of the trouble.  We don't know if there were any background obligations (i.e. investor NDA, contracts, etc.) that prevented them from being fully transparent or if it was just poor choices.

I'd be surprised if it isn't a Robb Zombie Grind-Fest.

Having watched NQ go through proper use of Alpha and Beta development cycles (at least while JC was here) I suspect that most people who have only seen the state of the game up to 0.23 will not recognize the game at release.  For some that will be a good thing, for the rest... well, they left for reason(s) that may or may not be even bigger factors in gameplay.

Funny, you mentioning redundant assets caused me to stumble into visualizing the current schematic system acting like sensor for your factory.  If you're not in the factory checking on it then it shuts itself down.  You can set the timer longer by feeding the schematic bank but you have to keep resetting that timer.  By doing that it prevents inactive players from leaving the lights on.

NQ has heavily referenced Eve Online, meaning SP are 'important' but kinda not so I don't see the SP bonus being a problem.  The beaters (yay, another SAO reference!) already have multiple advantages even at zero SP.  At the same time, even with the wipe having a dedicated base of experienced players with more SP will likely have more positive impact on the game than not.
