Hey dude, good luck out there and congrats on the promotion! If Lord JC allows it, we're all still kicking it in the DU discord so feel free to stop by and bump shoulders.  ?

We are taking all precautions to keep everyone safe at this time. We will do our best to avoid any delay in the development process and are utilizing alternative measures where possible (such as remote work).

Thank you for your concern from all of us at NQ!

Um... no that's not how it works.

There is no technology on the planet available aside from them physically laying fiber cable directly between all of their own datacenters that would allow their server tech to be split across the planet like that, and NQ doesn't have hundreds of millions of dollars lying around for them to be able to pull that off.

As it is the servers have to be physically close together in the datacenter and be optimized as much as possible for communication speed between them. It's been described as "closer to a weather modeling supercomputer", this is high performance computing and that just doesn't give much flexibility in where those machines can be physically hosted.

So while different storage components, databases, login queuing systems, account information, etc. might be hosted on separate machines in different datacenters, the game server itself just doesn't have the capability to allow for that. Maybe when a billion people are playing Dual Universe they'll be able to afford laying trans-Pacific fiber optics and creating some massive global-spanning supercomputer cluster, but that's just not how it works today.

I suggested something very similar in my first post on the forums way back when

I think the idea went over everyone's heads though.

Because of that this is what I envision currently

I suggest that Asteroid fields should spawn outside solar systems in the dead space zones referenced above.

This is because resources at some point will dry up in say Solar system A and because of that people will move to a new systym strip it and keep going this way it is possible to introduce new resources into the game and reintroduce destroyed resources into the game.

I would also expect that this would be place after release.

    Thoughts? and Addition?

If anyone is writing bots or services for their own discords/websites/applications, you can use this API to check whether a user has NDA access or not:

    https://api.dual.sh/verifyauth/167790688161890304

Simply supply someones discord ID as the last field of the URL.

This doesn't use a database, rather it references discord directly, so it works seamlessly with this new bot

Similar, but "Channel Commander" allows for assigning a commander permission to players so that they can all communicate on a secondary channel (the commander's channel) rather than having the ability to speak to all channels at once.

In any sufficiently large Eve TeamSpeak, Channel Commander is how fleet commanders are able to coordinate amongst others leaders. That's why you'll often hear them telling everyone to STFU, because they're trying to listen on the commander's channel (effectively being in two channels at once).

I know that "predefined sounds" is on the "Considered" list on Trello: https://trello.com/c/HVdTjEsH/51-functional-scriptable-speakers-able-to-play-predefined-sounds

While I think that would be cool, I think it would be cooler if we had access to a synth sound module through LUA to build and sequence our own custom sounds.

Writing sound synthesis by hand isn't unheard of in LUA, for example:

And even more, here are some tracks composed entirely with LUA:

I think that giving us the flexibility to define our own sounds with such an approach would be incredibly more valuable than choosing from a list of predefined sounds.

In case anyone is wondering, yes I am suggesting this because I want a night club in DU.

yamamushi reacted to Aislynn in Are we absolutely sure about a pay by subscription model?
I am more than happy to pay 15 - 20 dollars per month for a game like this.   If it is 15 dollars a month and I spend 4 hours per day, that is about 13 cents per hour entertainment value.    If I go to the movies, I can rarely get out for less than 25 dollars...so around 12.50 per hour to entertain me.   And based on how long I spent in EVE, I will probably average a good deal more than 4 hours per day with a game like this.   Heck, I could spend an extra hour working overtime in RL and pay for 3 months of subscription at that price.

You need to find which pack you bought (likely Iron if it was that inexpensive), as not all backers have access yet, which you can reference on this chart:
