GunDeva reacted to Kurock in Question on losing inventory upon death
When you die in DU you lose your inventory (half disappears and half is lootable) but keep your quanta and your master blueprints. (At least that was the original plan from NQ)

Lootablilty of DACs is a sticky topic. Originally NQ said they would *not* be lootable and there was a loud disproportional stink about it. So this has been discussed before...at length. You can wade though that topic here:

A point that was raised is that someone paid real money for the DAC and then it got stolen. Let's repeat that: A player paid for something and got no return for it. NQ is ethically and morally bound not to allow that. And no, crying "git good noob" does not somehow make that OK.

    Solutions:
The EvE system to bank PLEX is one solution but will take precious dev time. Another that was suggested is that DACs are unlootable until they are sold for the first time. The effect of this is that hoarding in-game bought DACs carry an inherent risk which I have no issue with. A player can pop them immediately for time or accept the risk of keeping them.

You cannot buy a Patron pack if you are a Founder. This is expected to be changed later.

In addition to what Lethys said, just remember that DU is in development, pre-alpha stage atm, and wont be in any form of 'game playable' mode for probably a year or so (My guess for when Beta is released - until NQ provides an updated road map).

So 'playing' DU now is really testing DU now, which means lots of bugs and incomplete/missing features. The upside to this is that you can contribute to the direction that the game takes

I signed up for Alpha 1 and am looking forward to playing with my first few voxels sometime in the future

GunDeva reacted to Kurock in old subscribers treated worse
What founders generously received when the supporter packs were announced are mostly cosmetic in-game items and not entire "packs". What those cosmetics are, are listed in the post where that image comes from:

    https://www.dualthegame.com/en/news/2018/03/07/supporter-rewards-for-founder-backers/

    Besides cosmetic in-game goodies:
Silver Founders now get access to Alpha 2 (not beta like the would have previously)
Gold Founders gets a name reservation
(Sapphire Founders and up get a few more cosmetics.)

NQ have stated that they are looking into allowing upgrading from Founder packs to Supporter packs as there are quite a few people asking for this.

Are NQ really treating Founders worse by handing out free stuff?

GunDeva reacted to Lethys in Starting classes
there will be no classes in DU and imho that would not be a good idea, for several reasons:
    - newbros aren't useless because everyone can do (nearly) everything right from the start. More skills only mean that this player is more efficient
    - it's a sandbox game so you can do whatever you want in DU. This also means that classes are useless: you may start out as a miner but may continue to play as a bounty hunter.
    - newbros should get a good impression of the game via a short and very basic, but well made tutorial to learn the ropes and to get a glimpse of what you're able to do in DU. As this is a MMO and a social game, it's up to the players themselves to welcome the new player and introduce him to the game and how to do stuff.

Sundies can't spawn vehicles, only infantry. And for that we have spawn room.

I'd rather have all short-distance travel conventional. Wan't reinforcements? Bring carriers full of fighters (so your downed pilots can fly something again). Retreat and repair larger units. Protect those carriers by either placing them in safe distance (at cost of slower reinforcement) or escorting them.
In general pay adequate price to tactical advantage.

    Hi there DrCat75,

Welcome to the Community and Forums.

To address your concern. This topic has actually been answered multiple times by Novaquark: see here: https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/search/&q=model&author=NQ-Nyzaltar&sortby=newest

Here's a nice devblog explaining why a subscription model will be best for Dual Universe: https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2016/04/08/monetization-player-happiness-and-economic-viability/

Since this topic often ends up in flamewars with those for subscription vs against subscription, I'll be locking this one. Please refer to the 1st link I posted to see all the answers from Novaquark regarding this topic.

GunDeva got a reaction from Alsan Teamaro in Incentive and ability to build cities in non-protected areas
If you find a large vein of ore or maybe a vein of rare ore you will want to protect your investment and that will NOT be possible by staying in the safe zone. This will easily start corporation's venturing out from the safe zones to set up bases and small towns early and near dig sites and other investments! Having processing units for your ore and other resources close to the collection point will save you massive amounts of time by not having to always fly or drive back to the Ark Ship to process items when your almost half way around the planet.

Global Markets : This is guess work because it is not implemented yet : If we do not have instant access to trade/vender resources on the open market  then it maybe a skill that will have to be learned ? That means you will have to transport your good back to the Ark Ship to sell them until someone acquires the trade/vender skill in your group. Even if you can sell items from your outpost , base or city half way around the planet : NQ has stated that someone if not you will have to pick up that purchases for you and if its valuable you may want protection which will open up jobs for other players in transportation and protection services!

Personally I don't think it will be a problem with people leaving the safe zones but I wanted to show how I think it will probably play out in the game and things in the safe zone cant be attacked not to mention there probably will not be any problem to relocate in the safe zone! Don't like the scenery or the neighborhood just pick up camp and relocate to another safe area!  =)

GunDeva reacted to Ben Fargo in Bounty Hunting System: A criminal deterrant or RP device?
I agree capturing the person would be more like actual bounty hunting, but I think paying a fine is a more practical penalty in an MMO than imprisonment.  While someone could avoid paying the penalty by transferring all of their money, the bounty would remain until it is paid, so they would continue to be a target of bounty hunters.

GunDeva reacted to Warden in Sandbox vs Themepark MMOs - What do you think?
I'll have to postpone watching the video (mobile and / or time constraints) but in general (solely referring to the thread title and topic w/o the video), my general stance is that I prefer Sandbox over themepark.

I will watch the video later and may comment on it specifically or separately, but for now this is my general view:

    ----------------

I started off in themepark MMORPGs. You could think I'd be used to them. But in fact, I am not. I never was. My first one was Star Wars Galaxies, granted, a combination out of some sort of themepark and sandbox MMORPG. I am always a fan of immersion or living or going through a story and interacting with others, and building something for yourself. I want an experience.

Themepark MMOs or MMORPGs usually had a few disadvantages that ruined that goal or wanted experience for me. Disadvantages because I saw subjectively "better" (more interesting) systems in other genres.

"Themeparks" were usually associated with grind and artificial-feeling levels and appropriate zoning (level areas). I had to go through some chores and grind just to get to a point where I could enjoy the game or have the gear or objects I wanted. For many, it's the challenge or fun. I, for one, often or almost always found it to be and feel artificial, with no real meaning to the game world. It's like a hamster wheel. Of course, life and sandbox games can also be a hamster wheel, but often with more twists or freedoms than 'themeparks'. In addition I often found the combat system to be clunky-ish, and the item sharing to be limited as you always had to "trade" through windows. In other games, you can just throw something on the ground so another can pick it up. Less 'restrictions'.

But maybe, in the end, I may simply favor or like a specific genre.

And that are sandbox games where you can shape or influence your surroundings, whether physically or on a wider community sense. That is what I like. Today I might not even touch themepark for RP, which I like to do on occasion. It's not worth the grind and time investment when I can have more from any time investment in modern sandbox-like games that are also usually more "dynamic" or have a better pace, or more options.

To recap, not saying themepark is bad - I simply dislike it and favor sandbox. More options and fun for me.

Very close but I would pick sandbox over theme park games any day and if you have a great community in a sandbox  game  they could always build a theme park atmosphere for those that like that style of game play :  Organization's like DICE !  Theme park games your usually guided down one path or story line and you cant deviate from that path or story line !

GunDeva reacted to CoreVamore in Sandbox vs Themepark MMOs - What do you think?
I think it is a fairly well done video. I have always preferred MMO's/Sandbox, and if the game allows me to build things then thats a definite plus for me (One of the reasons I left Eve Online was that even though I was industrialist what I was building wasn't my design).

One thing the video didnt mention, as its only something I've seen in DU and Second Life, is that guided/instant games can be built inside of the MMO so that if people want quick fights, car races, gambling match etc etc etc it can be built within the game and run by players for players, with no extra development burden on the main game developers (NQ and Linden Labs respectively).

If NQ can actually pull of the single shard/one universe goal then it will be the first game to be truely 'one', that will allow the players to segment into what they please - combat parks included.

So I think the video is pretty spot on, I just see DU as the game that will redefine what it is to be an MMO/Sandbox/Themepark

GunDeva reacted to Sunrider44 in Ship building game closest to DU
    Hi @PetraPrime,

SE is a good reference. Empyrion is a lot inspired from SE, so I believe you can consider them as the same regarding ship building.
Another game which is closer from the "voxel ship" experience is Avorion. It's a nice little game made by 3 guys.

On the other hand, I don't think DU aims to become as accurate as Kerbal Space Program for the space sim part.

Otherwise, you can make your own opinion watching the official atmo ship tutorial (and other ones):

GunDeva reacted to Omfgreenhair in How to recruit! (and not be a nuisance)
I've seen all sorts of recruitment methodes during my days in WoW and Planetside 2. Basically you've got a few basic styles:

    • The Hoarder
Mass invite anyone who isn't in a corp. This will annoy some, others will accept out of curiosity. From the second group, only a few remain long enough for you to say 'hi' to. Very effective to gather a large number of members, but low quality membership.

    • The Street-corner Salesman
Write a basic pitch and contact corpless folks directly. They usually start out very chipper, use "friend" or "buddy" a lot but don't actually mean it. It works on folk that yearn to belong to a group but don't have to social constitution to proactively seek them out themselves.

    • The Advertisers
They make their corp look extremely appealing and professional. Emanating success and YOU could be a part of that! Of the winning team. That way the corp can filter potential members, choosing whomever can uphold their image of 'success' and make it a reality.

    • The Trialrunners
A group of core members or an org can take folks and third party on a mission. Then from that mission the core members can assess the performance of the potential new recruits and pitch accordingly.
