They could likely disable screen scripts while in the market.

NQ should really put up a bunch of billboards for rent. You want to advertise you put the money in for how long and it goes into a que by who is waiting. There should be something like 100 billboards for reent at the districts or outside the parking zones in the grassy areas. Sounds fair to cut down on the cores and the rest of it. Just image money and length of time put into a que. Where every market has advertising. Charge like 1mil credits per week. If its paid and run through NQ they should enable gifs or other simple animations. If people dont like your ad there should be a report feature. Not 10 votes and gone if people dont like you for having an ad. But a legit person checking the ads if reported and using common sense.

Since the 0.23 nerf of AGG, everyone is putting up a 1000m tower to build a landing platform for their AGG ships. It's getting damned hard to fly at low altitude on Alioth because of all of the single voxel wide spikes that render right in front of you and kill you ship.

I have a solution... let the AGG work all the way to ground.

There really isn't any conceivable justification (in lore) for AGG magically not working under 1000m above an arbitrary reference altitude. How does the AGG know that it's OK to land on Thades and Feli but it insists on hovering above all other planets?

Considering that AGG can land on those two planets, I doubt there's any compelling game design reason for this restriction either... it just makes the planet hairy - which JC said he didn't want.

Please let AGG fly to the ground so I don't have to move my 1100m long runway up to 1200m altitude to have clear access to it.

As long as there's no way to defending against pirates with with meta ships... and there's not atm... it needs to be easy to avoid combat.

The only legitimate purpose for combat at the moment is to test combat and that's best done between willing participants who don't have anything to lose cause they're flying easy-to-replace borg cubes.

When weapons are better balanced and defensive systems exist, so that escaping an attack is possible, we can talk about exposing non-combatants to the risk of attack.

Pirates should not get free access to the goods I spent hours collecting. They should waste a lot of time on ships that escape from them before they catch someone off guard and they should be risking serious losses if they happen to go after a Q ship.

I dont see why NQ does not have billboards and advertising space all over the districts players can pay a premium to rent in a que for however long?

There is no need to have potentially hundreds of advertising barges all over the place if they just had boards set up all over the place or above the airspace of the market or going down somekind of restricted travel airspace.

I think that anything over an M screen should be bound to Static Cores and not Dynamic. Just big enough to use screens in ships.

Anything else you should rent at a premium reoccuring weekly fee or paying for a set amount of time to give others a chance to advertise as well.

Well, I'm a hauler and have little use for PVP although I have done some in DU and a lot in other games.

I observe that combat between reasonably balanced sides works OK for what it is... but what it is is picking targets from a list and watching the list as your guns auto fire. You aren't even watching them. I'm not sure why that's supposed to be fun.

What I hear would be PVPers complaining about is that we haulers/miners etc. can easily avoid combat by warping around it. These whiners are griefers of course and their interest is in disrupting other players play with no risk to themselves.

I don't have any problem with being attacked if I have reasonable defenses available to me, but I don't yet. (On the other hand, if you're attacking me, don't expect me to treat you as a human being or anything other than a waste of air. You would be better content if you were an NPC.)

WHy would the AI wake us up just so that we can kill ourselves, though? Creating a new civilizaion but not even bringing laws and police from the old one is Junior-high school level stupid...

Aphelia or whoever is AS not AI. The whole premise  of the lore of this game was thought up over several rounds of some stout beverages in a bar, taken down on the back of a napkin and hasn't been readdressed since.

Good idea although I wonder what it would take to implement.

I'd also like to see weapon hits (in unsafe zone) and zero-damage hits (in the safe zone) raise an event in the core reporting what was hit and the calculated (pre-safe) damage. That would really be useful for training.

I've built a 1.2km tall tower, but I have made it 40m wide with glowing vertical stripes and 128m solid glowing horizontal octagonal safety "rings" every 128m. It's visible from about 10km away.

I guess the problem with DU is that creativity is expensive, so just the existence of combat that can destroy your creative work, is a pressure not to do the work. It also makes any features of a build that don't contribute to winning a fight to risky... so we get borg cubes. ?‍♀️

Weight! Add structural integrity.  Nothing wrong with building up, would be awesome to see skyscrapers, but the skinny towers to hold platforms is really bad.

I never even knew there was an AGG exploit. Only ever used the pedestrian 4kph AGG since day one.

that’s the problem with exploits, they change people’s expectations and you end up with people feeling that they’re entitled to it.

Q1: I really doubt open PVP combat will ever work in a game with a creative component.

Q2: I do think the risk of high stakes combat interferes with creativity... you really can't design and build far off the combat meta if you're likely to have to fight. So building isn't much fun any more. That would be less of an issue on a PVE server.

Q3: I am definitely wondering about the wisdom of non-respawning resources as I see ore deposits disappearing. With the market completely dysfunctional now, it doesn't matter at the moment. No credible revenue stream is the main thing that's keeping me out of the game atm.

Daphne Jones reacted to Honvik in Plea to NQ. Support needs improvements urgently!
    Afternoon,

This is more of a plea to return to the status Quo especially for support.  Of course I do not know why powers were revoked but given the state of the game maybe it is time to improve it once again?  The reason for it is as follows:

Previously support could assist in teleporting you back to constructs and even fix your construct quite quickly especially if it was a game breaking bug.  Yesterday for example I was helping with mining and suddenly whilst flying the core exploded but nothing else.  Thankfully the ship glided down with only one engine blowing up on impact.  Of course for me I was in the middle of nowhere! so to try to fix and replace the core was a nightmare.  Previously a quick message to support would fix it linking to a ticket.  Now it is wait days for someone to come fix it.

Today a colleague of mine in my org ticket number #44617. was flying in Warp when the server died.  Of course assuming that the new physics was in place so would continue with the journey it would of been fine, however in his case he logged in 2SU out from the planet he started at with all his warp cells gone.  Thus slow boating was the only option.  The poor guy started to do this risking PVP space but still in the 'safe zone' suddenly the whole ship blew up.  He was ported to Ailoth and logged his ticket.  With no response he managed to get back to see the damage only to find his construct on the actual planet!.  Still he waited no reply, logged in game as well as mentioned it on discord.  On the old system it would have been sorted instantly.  On the new system still no response!.

We need a return to how it was game breaking bugs affecting players puts them off playing.  Most of us adapt to the issues but imagine losing loads and having to re-start?  You only really need to look around and see people commenting on how poor support is these days to realise something is wrong.

Finally I love DU the whole premise of the game is amazing and what keeps me here is being part of an Org trying to establish some form of cohesion to make it enjoyable for now and the future, what I dont want is to see unhappy players, people quitting over support issues or gamebreaking bugs.

    Many thanks

    Honvik

Indeed, Although i do understand the the intention is to not damage a structure by collision when someone flies into it, this is approaching ridicule.
Another thing is that a dynamic core is not dynamic, its static with engines, simply because it does not move when pushed.

Another space game has taken another approach where you actually have collision damage and you can infact push pynamic structures If you have enough power.
there are countless good solutions for this problem, preferably by solutions like shielding or something and actuall dynamic properties of dynamic cores so you can push them.

Speaking of communication. Its feels like with return of Nyz (who is founding father of sorts of NQ communication style), CMs was put to "more useful tasks" again, then engaging us here more. And as I see (subjectivly) less active in Discord too.

    Now we have:

Nyzaltar -- before he at least visited forum to give some punishments or ad hoc comments when in mood. Not anymore.
Naerais -- not seen her active for a while. Why?
Naunet -- trying to be our friend, but less active now. Why?
Pann -- content creators front? Cool, but not very useful for us, common folk.
Nishtar -- new french CM. Probably nice for french, who are minority here, but again not much help for problems of international crowd.

Anyway, disproportionaly little presense felt. May be they preparing some kind of super-suprise for us.

in a week the new group of players that I have found and that I am comfortable with have blown their ships, S / M-Core, about 10 due to the lag, the docking and the stupid way in which it has been changed maneuvering tool. Even I, who have a good gaming experience, managed to detonate one of mine because I hit the ground with my bow while using the manouvering tool (WTF !!!).
One of the players had just bought 20kk of stuff at the market and the ship exploded while he was standing still, making everything he bought disappear.
A year ago I met a group of compatriots. In love with the potential of the game, they got tired of the game after a month for reasons unknown to me.
this summer at the launch of the beta I found another group: disappeared after a month for lag, killer industry, bugs, lack of content and insertion of superficially thought mechanics (broken docking just to name one).
Now how long will these new players last before they quit?
Easy to say "it means DU wasn't for them".
    You can tell me once.
    Twice.
From the three times no: it is not DU who "is not for them". It is the game that is mismanaged and thought with the breathlessness of someone with water in their throats and has no idea how to fix the huge holes he has created.
No idea apart from one: don't listen to the community. Absolutely never listen to it: never let them propose something too intelligent and then we make them feel important.

I actually came back to this game for a few hours after several months' hiatus. Only to find the docking completely borked... My idea was to park my container ship near the platform within linked container range because the platform was a complete Custer of flucks lying hither and thither with not enough space to touch down. Then I'd fly my XS shuttle to the marketplace.

Flying back to the L core ship with my XS core shuttle and landing on the deck of the unpiloted L core ship caused the L core ship to burst away and leave the XS core ship static again like it used to about a year ago.

This was not a problem before 0.23 when I last played.

JC gets his team to adjust mechanics to prevent fringe cases (like step manouvering dynamic cores one by one into space) by hamstringing the manouvre tool so much that players are forced to sit and wait like a lemon for 3 minutes when you accidentally lift your ship -trapped on a market place platform by another vessel's bugged collision cube, say-  up into the air and it freezes there, too high to jump onto or invoke build.

Docking is another extreme "shotgun nerf" as I like to call them where they were unable to come up with an imaginative and effective way to handle dock-shipjacking. And now docking requires one to use a broken mechanism to engage another, broken mechanism.

It suffices to say, I logged off mid session after an hour or so, unable to get my wee shuttle to dock. This game is an exercise in concentrated frustration. It needn't be, but it seems the team is intent on making it as frustrating to play as possible.

Where are the quality of life improvements that should be coming to a game with the title Beta?  This is looking awfully like its regressing more than progressing. Certainly in the 4 or 5 months since I last played, the game has showed me nothing novel or exciting.
