Veln reacted to Kurock in Emote Detector
A long time ago there was a post about Emotes.  This suggestion builds on that: An element (existing or new) that can detect when an emote has occurred within a definable area/location.

But what use could such a detector have? Sure, saluting a door to have it open is funny the first few times but let's take it a bit further. How about showing a warning on a screen when someone gestures rudely? Or using a combination of gestures to open a container? Or a drink pops up at the bar when someone waves? Or making a in-game game called Emote Emote Revolution? With LUA the possibilities are limited only by your imagination.

DU you have more suggestions of what could be made with an emote detector?

Climatic phenomena you describe are not on the list for the official release roadmap.
However, it might be part of an expansion after the official release.

Animations occur client side, not server side. They are however stored on the server, so the server would need enough space to store them. Bringing up processing power here makes no sense.

What if someone in Eve made 100,000 titans and undocked them from citadels all at once?

What if someone in WoW created 500,000 lvl 1 gnomes and marched them all into a city and killed everyone.

It wouldn't happen, you're being ridiculous

Veln reacted to FD3242 in State component (Animated voxels)
The idea is a component that can store the state of voxels in small area and switch between them.

The component can store up to (EXAMPLE NUMBER) 5 states.

You can set this block to cycle between states. Basically making animated voxels. You could also hook it up to a script or logic circuit.

For balance reasons they should make it so voxels destroyed in one state will also destroyed voxels of other states that are in the same spot.
If they did not make it this way people could make cycling armor.

I can imagine people making some pretty cool designs with this.

I don't know if this would be a technical problem or not, it's just a idea.

The discussion around destructive mining practices got me thinking this. I don't speak on behalf of any org represented, this is simply an impression of these orgs that I had made based on what I've heard in discord in the past month and through recent videos posted on youtube.

Veln reacted to yamamushi in Once Again.... The Reddit Community
The last time I brought this up, the person in question was quick to show up here to try and defend themselves for leaving the subreddit in such a poor shape, but as of now that person has been suspended from Reddit and the subreddit has once again become neglected (could have predicted that...)

So, again, I am posting this to point people towards the better subreddit -> https://www.reddit.com/r/dualthegame/  (I'm not a mod there)

The other one was seemingly completely abandoned, with a 10-day old Reddit account currently "in charge" of it and a bot account put in to keep people from trying to request it from /r/redditrequest.

Why am I bringing this up, again?

Because the success of Dual Universe depends entirely on the community and the way that it is reflected in various forms around the gaming world. It's hard to argue that Reddit doesn't have an impact on games, and there are plenty of vibrant Reddit Gaming communities out there that interact back and forth with devs and give the impression that their games are healthy (full of players) and still active.

If a random user were to come across /r/dualuniverse, they'd see months old posts sitting around, a completely unresponsive mod team, and a sidebar that to this day is full of incorrect information (the old mod refused to remove No Man's Sky as a related subreddit, for example).

That's a disappointment because of the work that the /r/dualthegame mods put into making their subreddit active and accurate, yet because one person buried their head in the sand and refused to lift a finger for their subreddit, /r/dualuniverse is going to continue to get more traffic and subscribers regardless of how bad it is.

    So why post this?

Because if we want DU to survive into the future, and to continue growing and be seen as an active community, we should do our part to continue directing people to what is the best reflection on it (and /r/dualuniverse is not it).

So if you're on Reddit, or you know Redditors who are into Dual Universe, point them towards /r/dualthegame.

And to the person responsible for the mess that is /r/dualuniverse, you should feel ashamed of yourself for leaving this stain on the community. Plenty of people reached out to you asking you to fix the subreddit, instead you wanted to feel this imaginary power over the community, refused to do anything about the mess you left, spread a bunch of misinformation about me on the subreddit and discord, and then got yourself suspended from Reddit leaving the subreddit in the condition that it's in now.

In real life, a random dude with little to no experience with cars can't just steal a design for a car and put it in a machine that magically makes more of that car at the same exact quality.

So by your logic, being able to make a ship with base components and a blueprint, shouldn't even be a thing.

Personally I hope that copyright infringement can be a thing that's just handled by the players, but the reason I brought up the topic in the first place was because it looks like something that could be potentially really really shitty if there isn't a decent mechanic for handling it; kind of like how NQ is setting up a bounty system and not just leaving that to the community.

Sure. It would be the same missile launch system used on board ships, or a B.F.C (Big .... "Funky" Cannon). that can only be placed on planets because there's no ship that can support its power needs and/or massive size. It's not something out of the realm of possibility, just not something that would be herpa-derp commonplace. It would take a lot of resources to build the B.F.C. but it would be something large Empires would use to defend against enemy forces.

No don't get confused. I'm not talking about people creating a voxel morphed object that looks like a missile that they then fill with propellant and attempt to guide in some way.

I'm talking about pre-capsulated missile weaponry that we can mount to vehicles or buildings, like the laser gun turret, but for missiles / rockets. There's no chance they're going to make legitimate rocketry because they have no intention of implementing complex physical impacts.

You wouldn't want physics based rocketry and collisions anyways, its not meant to be a rocket physics sim. it would detract from trying to enjoy the make believe world of dual universe with complex science that only a handful would understand. The servers would have to calculate the projectiles physics in real time for thousands of people per cluster. That could be tens of thousands of bullets rockets lasers etc..  Its not guaranteed there will be missile weapons, but there is a decent enough chance with the parodies the game has to eve online and that missiles are an advanced weapon just like lasers and railguns.

When I'm talking missiles I mean missiles just like eve online, its a damage calculation with a fake projectile visual effect. all the other weapons will work exactly the same way, and its beautiful

If NQ decides to add a "Self Destruct" or "Explosives" component for us to put on constructs, a missile could just be a very bare-bones low-cost ship that you fly into something and have it explode when it hits.

It doesn't seem like it would be very efficient to do that though XD

Hello everyone, this is Shockeray, GM of Soul Nebula.

After waiting for an updated version of the original community map to show itself on the forums for a long time, I finally took it on myself to create my own up-to-date version. After a lot of original set up, my method now requires little time and almost non-existent server strain, allowing me to refresh it many times a day if there ever was a reason to. Due to my limited knowledge of this type of undertaking, TheGreatSardini helped me with the start up. Unless I missed one, this map should contain every organization with at least two members.
(Although Graph Commons may not be the best available method of displaying this node map, it is the best that I have found available to the public.)

Why are you writing the pledge sums like "$15 (Actually $17)"? Makes it like there was something shady with numbers. The first number isn't $/dollars, the first number is in euros because NQ is from Europe, and they are kind enough to give estimate of how much that would be in dollars, presumably because here are many people from USA.

I'm just saying, from my perspective if I was a greedy ship producer who just wants to steal a good design and make a shitload of money, here's what I would do.

-Find someone with a good ship design, and buy a normal copy of the design from them.
-Build the ship once, and take a very detailed video of the ship.
-Go "design a ship" that just so happens to be exactly the same as the ship design you just bought a normal copy of.
-Now you have the master copy of a blueprint that is identical to the other guy's master copy, so you can cut him out of the loop, and he can't make any money because you have a supply chain, he doesn't, and you can undercut his price if he tries to sell his ship design because you can make copies just as easily as he can even though you didn't make it.

If there's no other system in place, the only thing the guy who originally made the ship can do ends up being "just blow up the guy who stole your ship" since that's probably the only way to get them to stop. But that won't work because he has money from stealing your ship, and you don't. The reason this doesn't happen in real life is because we have copyrights and patents; systems we can use to hold people accountable, where disputes are dealt with case by case.

Personally I think someone should make a patent organization that can charge a patent fee to register a client's design. It may not even need to be a separate organization, the larger ones could just do this in addition to the other things they do. They could handle disputes and deal out punishments to people who steal registered designs, which would at least make it harder for small time thieves to get away with it.

Doing something like this isn't infinitely enforceable, but I think that's ok. Pirates are going to steal designs, but that's what they do, they steal shit, it's their job. Organizations who are at war with each other are going to steal each other's ship designs, but that's ok, they're at war with each other; it would be the equivalent of Russia using spies to steal American stealth bomber designs.

TLDR: It's too easy for new players to get their designs stolen. I think that organizations should work out a patenting and copyright system, and charge fees to people wanting to register their designs with the system / make a patent or copyright infringement claim.

A simple imprint on the ship preventing blueprinting it is great. It's simple and not over doing it. If someone wants to copy the design by building it by hand and selling it again so be it. That at least takes time and effort. But having people at a market sell blueprints and you buy one and duplicate them and sell them for 1 credit each or something silly just ruins any future of people wanting to be creative.

I mean if you guys want to freedom then lets speak freedom. 99.999999999% of players should not be able to manufacture ships because well that does not seem realistic. They must spend years RL building shipyards lol.

Sometimes little things are needed to make it work out in the long run.

In my opinion it would just be highly ineffective and expensive, first you would need enough territory units to claim all the way around the other persons territory then you would need enough resources and people to build a cage around them before they noticed and tried to escape, even if you have a bigger army thats still going to cost a lot with very little reward. Plus, if they manage to escape then you just claimed a bunch of territorys and built half a wall for nothing.

Too many risks in my opinion but i guess its possible that somebody might try it

No thanks. It will just end up with people having less choices for how to build. Let the designer and his allies of a ship building industry use their own political power in the world to deal with copies. If they even care or have the resources to that is.
